Also the people who found this stuff. More n more.keeps showing up. We talked about the MC5 when we where 12 or 13. Early 70s now I'm an OAP. I got Kick out the Jams n amused me then brethren 2 watch me. bouncing around.
I'm late to the party , but , yeah , this was from 1972 . The MC5 had to be the only band on the planet playing "Empty Heart" in '72.There's a video of the whole performance on French TV , including this clip , as well as the"Thunder Express" CD and LP.
These guys weren't trying to be the Stones. The Stones could never be this raw and pure. The Stones have always been commercialized and fake. This kind of talent can never be achieved by bands like the Stones.
@@alanna8983 Beg to differ on this. Check out the Stones 1964 version of this and compare it to whatever else was out there at the time. Raw and primal. They may have become commercialized and fake after the late 70's, but Exile On Main St, and many of the previous albums going back to 1964, they weren't.
This is a Jagger/Richard song which originally appeared on their Uk ep 'Five By Five' in 1964. Did Roky Erikson use the riff as inspiration for 'Your Gonna Miss Me"? I guess we'll never know.....
The crazy thing here is how they sustain the energy for so long without losing their way. And the use of dynamics is great. P.S. Smith’s “yeahs” may be the best in rock history.
To any out of towners or visitors looking for that live Detroit sound and music experience. Trot down to Woodward ave in Ferndale on a Friday or Saturday night and you'll find places like "Cosmos" and "The Majic bag" for a start, theres ten venues all featuring live and original music from Motown to Blues and Jazz to rip your face off Rock n Roll. Get there early cuz the streets are packed and parking is hard to find. If u like that rugged rock n roll atmosphere try the "NewWay" bar, definately a hole in the wall, wreaking of sweat and beer but also history, this is where many Detroit acts cut their musical teeth including acts like the 'Romantics'.There is still great music going on In and around Detroit and there always will be you just have to know where to look and go.
I play in many of those venues and some in Hamtramck, as well. Playing at the New Dodge tonight! My band is called Cockhorse and we play fast and heavy Rock N Roll. I've been told we have a similar spirit to the 5 by folks who were around to experience it firsthand. Rock is alive and well here in Detroit!
This is like the tightest I've ever heard them... amazing. Rob sounds as soulful as Stevie Wonder and Brother Wayne is as always.... just fantastic!and HIGH (MC) 5 at the end just make it.
Ironically, that was another band Dennis Thompson drummed for with the kit stuffed behind a Cadillac? front end. Fronted by the dubiously legendary Sirius Trixion. Might have caught them at the Chance in A2.
I had no idea they were Stone's fans and that you could occasionally understand them. Who knew????? I love it. "It make you feel like you on fire." Kingsuji
I fucking love this song and video. Watched it over and over again will never get tired. This is how to do a cover and nail it. For me the best ever and i'm 42 and heard a lot of them (good and bad).
This is awesome!!!! I wonder why I have never heard of them. They must have been really obscure in the days, bcos I was really into music and had jukeboxes in a rec room with pinballs from a family business and got all the latest records from a family business, but never even saw a 45 record by them. I also bought tons of albums, yet again, never heard of them. :-((
These guys were great !! If they had just steered clear of that White Panther Party clown, they may well have ended up in the top tier of rockers of all time.
This sounds really fast and punky for the time, no wonder they were a big influence on the punk bands to follow! This is possibly the fastest track I have heard by them.
@yxan I was in Detroit just a few days ago and had a chance to drive by the site of the old Grande Ballroom....If the now abandoned site could talk...it would be the howling of feedback from a stack of 1000 Marshall Amps! This was my world from 1965 thru 1969...and beyond.
IDK, bout france, but this recording is bad ass, no choreographed shit where th ey're forced tp lipsync(common back then) Thanks so much and keep 'em coming
MC5, I mean, what a Fantastic band. The sound ..is terrible, but even so, the music is um, well, FANTASTIC. One of the most exciting tracks and I can't stop playing it so Everyone within ear-shot can appreciate it too.
This song sounds like The Who's "I Can't Explain" which has the same riff as the intro from The Nazz' (Todd Rundgren) "Open My Eyes" and was used by The Clash, too.
The Stones' Empty Heart was recorded in June '64 and came out in August1964. I think I Can't Explain was December 1964. could have been some cross-pollination although the Stones recorded Empty Heart at Chess Studios in Chicago during an early tour (possibly their first in the US).
Even more rare, at least to me, is that this is footage with Steve Moorhouse on bass. I've only seen him in the Beat Club footage. Anybody know where he is these days?
Can anyone I.D. the bass player in this video? Apparently this is after they fired Michael Davis and hired that English guy, whose name I can't recall.
@yxan Nonononono, sorry; I meant what it must have been to be one of the lucky souls sitting in the background - that would have been something, right? Sorry for the disappointment factor, yxan!
yeah this is the real deal! MC5 have like a soul tradition ...............to me anyway any comments welcome cuz i grew up with the stooges and it seems like they were influenced by MC5
The strengths of the MC5 were their drummer and the two lead guitars. Their weaknesses were their management and their overly political nature. They were not a band that sought out commercial fame and fortune.
I think they wanted it...but John Sinclair was the reason they got popular and then the reason for their demise. The white panther party bs. The liner note on the album by Sinclair. I think they would have gained more fame w him. It may have taken a little longer to attain, but I think it would have endured a lot longer.
+Bail Bondsman I saw Wayne Kramer at a seminar 2 years ago, someone asked him about selling out with the DKT/MC5. He said "I've been trying to sell out for 40-something years, man." I think if they'd have released the 3rd album first they'd have exploded. Over and Over and Skunk are absolute anthems
RIP Dennis! Last of the MC5!
RIP Wayne Kramer!
Priceless footage.
Heavy Soul music influence in this glorious band.
Holy shit, more and more MC5 footage keeps showing up... I FUCKING LOVE RUclips!! Thanks for posting, yxan!!!

who ever uploaded this piece of history should get an award. i have tons of MC5 footage, but this one take the cake. 5 stars!

One of America's greatest contributions to modern culture. The MC5- anybody can be the Rolling Stones if they want it bad enough!
These guys weren't trying to be the Stones.
The Stones could never be this raw and pure. The Stones have always been commercialized and fake.

Fred was so damn fierce. KOTJMF, my Motown brothers.
R.i.P. Smith, Tyner and Davis!
G, Rob was giving 1000% of himself every time, it seems like! awesome to see them, so raw and real!!! Thank you!!!
A rare great cover of a Stones song.
This is a Jagger/Richard song which originally appeared on their Uk ep 'Five By Five' in 1964. Did Roky Erikson use the riff as inspiration for 'Your Gonna Miss Me"? I guess we'll never know.....
This is the baddest bad ass band that ever there was.
Excellent guitar riffs
@@Garrysullivanjones gotta love their 2 guitar attack.
Incredible performance
truly an underated band
We need some band like this to come around these days and wake people up out of their
absent minded slumber...
Long Live The MC5!!!
I'm doing my best to put one together, keep the faith.
Once again proves why the 5 were the greatest R&R band ever!
My favorite Stones song by my favorite band.
This entire performance is available on a bootleg called "Thunder Express"
Highly recommended...

Yeah! Share it, this video from the "Thunder Express sessions" wasn't difficult to get hold on.
LOL @ Wayne stoned out of his gourd.
This is from a French TV show.
Kick ass cover of the Stones. I'll take the Motor City bad boys.

Love it detroit
Mc5, rock and rolls greatest secret, they were the shit!
Yeah, that record ROCKS!! Wish this could make it onto DVD as well!!
This is freaking awesome
I loved the early Stones and I love MC5! Great.
Too bad the 5 stopped playing so early in their carrier, would have been better than any other band, rock and roll
H
+Eric P fuck yeah
Eric P fuck off there was talent there, and I will defend that
Surfer Bri 😒
They got in trouble with the law. They were real punks.
This band is not illuminati! ;) I like this musik!!! Greet`s from germaniy!!! Wah!
The real deal -the MC5-music seems to be so lacking now days-at least once we had the MC5
Sonic!

They are in that place anyway. The obscurity makes them even more of a rare treasure, I know what you mean though. MC5 FOREVER!
This sounds really fast and punky for the time, no wonder they were a big influence on the punk bands to follow! This is possibly the fastest track I have heard by them.
The American Ruse is pretty fast.
I cannot believe that I never saw this before...after 40 years, I'm going through puberty again...incredible!
@yxan I was in Detroit just a few days ago and had a chance to drive by the site of the old Grande Ballroom....If the now abandoned site could talk...it would be the howling of feedback from a stack of 1000 Marshall Amps!

You might have great memories of those times , trippin of your dial to these bands, this track is 🧨 like all 5 music. 🎸
Mc 5 waa just amazing
Great band, great song.
Wunderbar!
YEAH! Thanks for this. I've been listening to this on "Thunder Express" for years but never knew there was video for it.
Oh yeah, this video is SWEET!

Heey This Sounds Wild!!! Cool!!!
Well I had some German footage from l972 in Munich but someone's took it off for sum reason.
Damn!
@yxan Seriously, thank you. I've never seen this before either.
Brother Wayne! TESTIFY!!!
American rock at its best.
I have this on an album (CD), never imagined there was footage for it, where did you get it? Great stuff, thanks for the post
Wanna share some of those tons of footage?
That’s not Mike Davies on the bass?
@microdot
Welcome back !!
Even more rare, at least to me, is that this is footage with Steve Moorhouse on bass. I've only seen him in the Beat Club footage. Anybody know where he is these days?
Great footage but date place time venue?☯️🕉🙀🇺🇸🎸
@ybravura
Steve Moorhouse was his name. If I remember correctly.
They can fell the music
The Vibrators covered it in 1977-78
@brotherpantichrist
Thanx !
So, where's the DVD of this??
@ybravura
Yes that's Steve Moorhouse
Correct!
No Michael Davis on bass.
And the fives' doom is soon to come.
Chords borrowed by The Who for Can't Explain.
To be one of the lucky souls sitting in the background (one of them actually looks BORED!)...
On qualudes
I can't explain, but the main riff is very familliar
Buddy Busey It's a Rolling Stones cover...
It was a joke, the main riff is very similar to the Who's "Can't Explain" rhythmically
This is great but its not all of the five. That isn't Michael Davis on bass!
From which year?
anyone know what date this is ? guessing towards the end of MC5's time, maybe 72-ish ?
@diddywahdaddy
did you ? tell me more !
I think this bass player is Steve "Annapurna" Moorhouse...
what are they doing over in France !!?
Can anyone I.D. the bass player in this video? Apparently this is after they fired Michael Davis and hired that English guy, whose name I can't recall.
@yxan Nonononono, sorry; I meant what it must have been to be one of the lucky souls sitting in the background - that would have been something, right? Sorry for the disappointment factor, yxan!

never seen this on vynil!
*vinyl*
@ybravura why did they fire michael davis??
Heroin use. He was really screwed up.
@diddywahdaddy
yes, that would had been something ! yes, im a bit dissapointed :)
HEY?? That is NOT Michael Davis on bass.whoever that is...well he's alright.
