  • On February 4, 2024 A.D. founding member of the rock n' roll band The MC5 Wayne Kramer died at the age of 75. Kramer was an influential guitarist and was considered one of the first proto-punk axe men of the sixties. He and his band mates record three studio albums before imploding from heavy drug use and the financial support of a record label. A few years after the MC5 collapsed, Kramer would spend for years in prison after being convicted of selling drugs to an undercover federal agent.
After his release from prison, Wayne Kramer would become a studio musician, a carpenter and briefly form a band with former New York Dolls guitarist Johnny Thunders called "Gang War." During the 90's he would become a solo artist and release several records before reforming the MC5 with former members drummer Dennis Thompson and bassist Michael Davis. This new version of the band would tour off and on over the next twenty years with a cavalcade a members. Before Kramer's death, he talked about the MC5 now known as the MC50 releasing a fourth studio album that was produced by Bob Ezrin called "Heavy Lifting" sometime in the spring of 2024.

Losing Wayne is a sword in my heart , seeing mc5 live was beyond description, they were amazing and didn't make the hall of fame, they more than deserve it.

He was a awesome guy. Back in the early 2000s he sent me an autographed photo and we corresponded a few times.

Rest In Power, Mr. Kramer. Saw you perform in person shortly after you were freed, you were great. You will be remembered

Kramer's stage presence was too brilliant for words. The combination of him and Fred "Sonic" Smith was so dynamic.

I really liked Wayne, I thought he was the great talent of the MC5. He was able to get his life back together after a stint in jail and took responsibility for his behavior. Rock on Wayne Kramer. 😢

Ohhh it is so sad, mc5 are for me one of the earliest Skaterpunk Band. They are iconic and made the way for Bands like Bad Religion or nofx maybe i think so .... Rest in peace you dancer and guitarist

The MC5 influenced a lot of bands and the punk rock era in the UK and America. Wayne Kramer's style and attitude on stage was often imitated but never duplicated.

I was watching some of his most recent stuff. The dude could still bring it on stage in his 70's. Such an amazing and talented man.
