Historia Americana S1 E2: Andrew Johnson's Pickled Vice Presidential Inaugural Speech
thyOn March 4, 1865 A.D. Andrew Johnson was sworn in as Vice President of the United States. Unfortunately, this was no ordinary day for Mr. Johnson as he made a fool out of himself in front of his fellow constituents. He was on the benders of all benders in the weeks leading up to his arrival to Washington D.C. The night before his inauguration, he drank heavily at a party hosted by the Secretary of the Senate John Fourney.
The next morning he woke up with "A thunderous hangover" and drank three tumblers full of neat whiskey minutes before he was sworn in as Vice President. After a drunken display with a bizarre swearing in ceremony, Johnson gave a very intoxicated nonsensical speech bef...

McLaren was such a pseudo-intellectual goofball, and it's surprising that the Dolls humored him for more than a couple of days. He seems to have had some vague fantasy about a rock band instigating sociopolitical upheaval in the American South, but was never willing (or able) to articulate his vision. After he foisted basically the same scenario on the Pistols and they broke up, too, I guess he had to concede that it was never going to happen.

The absolute worst part of Amerikkka to tour is past the Mason Dixon line. Period! For 4 kids whose van drove in to Daycare Beach back in the early nineties they threw beer bottles at my late singer and best friend who had been throwing shite all of those 15 minutes we were on stage; so I hurled my Black Label 16 ounce can of beer at the guy who ducked as it hit his girlfriend instead of my original target 🎯 and the pigs were called ! It was just like a scene out of the movie “Porky’s” ( the club owner was related to the cops who were probably inbred by one of more family members!) so as we not only nearly had escaped being thrown in a Florida jail which is as you’re a awaiting trial you get put out on a chain gang until they’ve notified your bail bondsman and every other building down there are loaded with these shit- bags just for a frame up like they’re pulling up til this day and even worse under the Biden administration!) but I digress.. My point is they never paid Us the $500 which we put in the contract beforehand and we were totally screwed by both parties 🎈 So I can imagine what The Dolls went through 15 years before we tried to make a dent down in the Floribama area; luckily we made a swift exit out the back of the club which is called Rosebuds btw and the next night drove down to YBOR city to open up and hang out with three of the guys in the Village People who were great fellas who were also a lot of fun. The Dead Milkmen were on the same Bill with us too. We certainly had seen both sides of this dysfunctional state and we can only imagine what Johnny and company had been through during this trying time in their careers in 1975 with an opportunist like McClaren trying to screw them every which way til Sunday! Thanks for the background. I knew about the agreement between Russo and Romero to split the rights, but nothing about the production problems. When I heard about this movie m I was pretty excited because I LOVED Return of the Living Dead which Russo was attached to as a writer. I didn’t find out until much later that Russo’s script was shaite and Dan O’Bannon pretty much scrapped the whole thing and rewrote it from scratch. I also read later that much of the rejected script was recycled into this POS.😆 And I agree, 500K could’ve gone a long way to making a much better movie in the hands of a good producer. Just think of what someone like Roger Corman could’ve done with that kind of money.😆

This is a sad ending to a phenomenal band. Florida, where culture goes to die. A friend told me something like that. Miami excluded, never been, but I’m thinking Miami has some crazy Caribbean melting pot culture goin on. Everyone should read “Please Kill Me” but also Walter Lure’s bio, which contains his 1st and Thunders 2nd Act with Malcolm after he invited the NYC veteran rocker supergroup the Heartbreakers to play a slot on the Anarchy Tour he put together, ( as a second choice, because he was an idiot) and not as manager of course, they didn’t trust him, rightly so! Proof that rock music was never any😢 real threat to the establishment....In fact I'd go so far as to say it was orchestrated 'rebellion' of the counter culture.

It has a certain charm to it. Too bad the band wasn't involved with the recordings instead of Doug and a studio hired gun.

Drugs gave him a whole lot of confidence. According to some interviews in "Too Much, Too Soon" people around him would say that he would always act like a bad ass and try to pick fights when he was hopped up on amphetamines and methamphetamine.

True! I've seen footage of him playing in a Bar and trying to pick a fight with a guy in the front row( who would've crushed him ) because he was talking to the guy beside him! He was very Paranoid because of the Junk!@@FFFNetwork
