- Summit Helicopter's S-58T doing a startup, taxi, and takeoff from Whiteman Airport in Pacoima, CA to go do a lift job. This is the old 'Screamin' Mimi' from the TV show, Riptide.
Oh man! That jet engine revving up! And the Metrolink rolling in the background too. And the so cute tiny toy helicopter the R22. Awesome video clip! I have to admit, even being a teen in the 80's I have never seen this TV show. Riptide. I may have to check it out.
Turbine the r22! 😁
Amazing power difference between this turbine and the old piston versions
RichieT5
Probably nearly twice the power with the pt6 twinpac for about a quarter of the weight roughly guessing
Oh, that was way too easy. The old radial engine version took 10 minutes just to get all the cylinders firing. It was much more dramatic!
Awesome video! You know you're helicopter is huge when it has steps to a second floor and a sliding window. ;)
Heli PadUSA it was originally designed that way. As the original version had a piston engine ( radial) WW2 type...
Surprise, surprise, a turbine! I was waiting for the radial engine start-up show, smoke & noise.
All i see is "MIMI" i love these choppers
Anybody else have the Riptide theme in they're MInds while watching this?
Every ..single.. time :)
Lee78072 That is the old Riptide aircraft, N698X. I used to be the director of ops and chief pilot for the company that owned it.
LOL yes indeed. When they changed the "N" number with duct tape.......
Yup....but without the sputtering...
Excellent film footage and sound.
Ótimo vídeo. 🇧🇷
beautifully synchronized with the camera shutter timing.
Beauty, nice video.
Wow, that rotor transmission hooks up fast.
He is holding the rotor brake until the second engine spools up and there is sufficient hydraulic pressure (to operate cyclic, etc). So when he releases it, the rotor system quickly catches up...
Oh I see, I thought it was a single engine like the Choctaw.
@@rubidug was this converted from a piston engine? It looks like the ones from the 60s that were piston driven.
You gotta love rolling taxi ops!
very similar airframe to the British 'Wessex' Heli, one my all time favorites. Guessing the 58 has GE engines? I know the Wessex had RR ones...possibly 'Gnomes'? not sure
rob wilkinson Pratt & Whitney PT6T Twin-Pac
Hab ich in LA 2018 gesehen ,bin schon drinnen gesessen
I’m thinking the tracking needs checking on the rotor blades.
fire
THE actual Screaming Mimi?
The very one.
wow, that engine is way better than the old radials
I still prefer the old piston versions for some reason. Although this is probably MUCH more reliable.
Agak seru helikopter S-58T nya sih
The chopper looks like Brian from family guy
This is not original engine.
Tail rotor not engaged???
Its spinning at the same speed as the shutter.
Wow a turbine s-58t
All S-58Ts are turbine. Hence the T on the end. ;)
@@PNW_Car_Mods yeah thanks
Frickin helo has nostrils.
Why are the pilot & co-pilot wearing crash helmets?
Virus kosong.
