Todd Rundgren & Ringo Starr All Star Band - I SAW THE LIGHT and LOVE IS THE ANSWER, Portland Oregon

- Another good Ringo All Star Band performing on July 15, 2012 at McMenamin's Edgefield Amphitheater, featuring Todd Rundgren on two songs (I left out Bang The Drum). Front row crowd bumps and a few wobbles here and there but a darned fine performance by all and enjoyed by Rundgrenites, Kate and Nancy in the first row. BTW, guitar man Steve Lukather kills!
The songs are BMI Works #676201; Earmark Music Inc. & SCREEN GEMS-EMI MUSIC INC and #919918 by Earmark Music Inc. & Fiction Music, Inc., written by Todd Harry Rundgren (CAE/IPI #41293995.) - Видеоклипы
Here I am 11 years later ...
I love that Steve and Todd crushed the solo. Great to hear.
Knowing how much of a Beatles fan Todd is, this must be a dream come true for him.
I think he produced music under apple records for a band called badfinger.
Real music. Real vocals. No recorded backing tracks.!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of those transporting songs. No matter where you are or what you are doing...this song comes on and you are back in the 70's with all the great memories that come with it.
Absolutely
What's so awesome about 'I Saw The Light' was that Rundgren wrote it in the style of Carole King as a tribute to her, AND
he even sang it in the style of King on the original recording.
90th
Todd’s voice at his age is AMAZING 🤩
I've loved Todd for 50 years and he may stand way to the left of me, but he's still close enough for God to snap the picture.
He’s amazing.
And this man is not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame?.....unbelievable.
He is now, a wrong has been righted. And he doesn’t care. He finds his own way.
Todd Rundgren is unmistakably a musical genius .
A wizard,A true⭐
I was hanging out with him at his house last week😊
I’ll let him know.
Bought "A Wizard A True Star" in 1974. Still have the album, pure genius @@slammerbar Also saw him in concert with Daryl Hall earlier this year. What a great show!
say what??@@slammerbar
Transports me back to a better time. The 70's
my time was the 80's, but grew up listening to this type of music in the 70's.......definitely a better time Penny Ryan
Janelle Etsitty Janelle, 50's, 60's 70's 80's all distinctive music periods. 40's also. My father played with Tommy Dorsey. Music now no distinc time. listen to music of the 80's you know it's from the 80's. Now nothing, not that there isn't talent, just kinda lost sounds...I think it reflects the lack of social consciousness of todys youth. WE cared more and it was reflected in the music, . I hear 40's music and it sounds like WW2.
Penny Ryan totally agree with you Penny.
Yes, it sure was... Everything was so much better, especially.. the MUSIC! 🎶🎵
@@penelopeannj In high school in the 70's, our life revolved around music - we lived and based our days around it. I thought that's just the way it was going to for the rest of my life. But sadly it wasn't. I did like some 80's & 90's music but it was not anything to base your life around.
When I first heard " _Love is the Answer_ " by " *England Dan and John Ford Coley* " I fell in love with the song! It was great, so Beautiful..
It wasn't until a few years ago I seen a video of Todd singing it Strange? Then find out, Todd wrote it! It blew my mind!!!
what a great song! I love Todd's music, since I heard " _We Gotta Get you a Woman_ " back in 1969 when he was *RUNT* !
Vey talented man! God Bless him for years to come, and _Ringo and the rest of the band_ ... The are great, keep it up! ⛪✝🧡💛💚💜
Todd's version is a great antidote to the England Dan & John For Coley version.
Todd is amazing. He wrote this song in 15 minutes. Did all the vocals and played all instrument on the recording.
Which song do you mean? I know when he was "RUNT" in 1969, he recorded the song "We Got To Get You a Woman" Todd did all Vocals and played all instruments.
He's good like that. I learned the same from Paul McCartney, when he did his first solo album "MCCARTNEY" he played all instruments. Since I played a few instruments,
Drums, Bass, Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, I bought a 4-track recorder back in the early 80's and did my own songs! So Cool! I didn't need my band members all the time 🤗
We got to get you a WOMAN
@@garychambers5850 Just on this particular album... "Something/Anything." Totally played and recorded by Todd, with the addition of a few girls to do backing vocals on a few of the tracks (eg: "Hello, It's Me"). Recorded in his home studio, I believe.
@@garychambers5850 Also ,Steve Winwood did the same on Arc of the Diver LP
@@Tessmage_Tessera Close. Side four was recorded at the Record Plant in NYC, and features an amazing lineup of players. Moogy Klingman, Rick Derringer, John Siomos, Michael and Randy Brecker, and more. And those background singers? One of them was a young Vicky "Turn the Beat Around" Robinson. 😀
One of the best songs of all time and Todd is, well, Todd.
Todd is AWESOME-
Godd.
I still listen to Todd. .... I Still listen to the Beatles......
Great music never gets old bro....
I've always loved Todd Rundgren as a musician & a few yrs ago read an interview with beautiful Liv Tyler I fell in love with him as a man! He not only raised her as his own child, even after he & her mother Bebe Buell split, he did so knowing who her bio father was, allowing her the time & decision to tell Liv herself. Even after Bebe told Liv Steven Tyler was her bio dad Todd has remained in her life as Dad with Steven. Pure class!!!
He's a "Real Man"!!!
lolangford1
I didn't know that!!! That is very classy of him/them. Thanks for the info!
Well said. I too was very impressed when I learned this. Imagine if millions followed his example.
I agree 100%. A lot of men would have walked away.
agreed as i was a witness to todd being a dad to liv, he & bebe lived on 19th st in chelsea, i lived on 17th st & would see him most of the time w/ liv in a baby stroller , got to know him well, humble dude , to me a legend in music
When I want to go back to those good old days in the High School ... I look for "I saw the light" and the sweet tears appear !!!
Always awesome! Love you Todd Rundgren! A music mastermind and Wizard of course. Still rockin it!
Isn't he amazingly ridiculous
Many years of outstanding sounds from TR.
OMG...songs like this will never happen again. So glad I grew up in this era.
Amen bro class of 74

Sharon Moraes
But WE got to hear them when they first got on the radio, Sweetie!
there will b reruns
Do not understand what you mean.
I see Ringo knows Todd Rundgren is a cool genius.
Todd Rundgren is the only one who can butcher his own song yet still sound great
Lennon did it all the time, too; never mattered to anyone listening......"That's John up there, singing to us!"
LMFAO! Absolutely true.
@@shuroom57 Maybe Todd was influenced by NO REPLY?
I love todd but i never knew he wrote love is the answer. I love thid song. He's the freakin best!
Hi hope everybody is doing well.
I just want to thank the people that made this footage happen and being able to see it is truly incredible. Thank you
❤Fascinating line-up.! Todd is fabulous! ❤♬ So much talent here.! ♬ ❤ 👍
Pure JOY! Sorry, five minutes later I am bawling like a lovestruck teen "Love Is The Answer" magic
What would we do without Todd doing the music to our lives?
Hello Victoria,
How're you doing
Thanks for being a fan of my musical craftiness,
It's nice meeting you here
When I went and saw Ringo in Saratoga this year, Todd actually jumped into the audience while singing!
I sae Ringo and his all star band at SPAC years ago, but the stars were Levon Helm, Clarence Clemmons, Dr. John ... If I remember correctly
I don't give a shit, whenever you have a Hammond B-3 on any stage, you have a solid foundation for any song. It just floats out there and give a fullness to the whole thing. In the studio or on stage, the B-3 is such a fine instrument.
Some of the Best songs ever written. Thanks Mr Rundgren
Who would have ever thought these guys would still be able to sing & perform so well in their 60's? Fantastic! Still rockin & having a great time doing it... Some of them probably enjoying it even more now that their sober & can remember things the following day.....
"Love Is The Answer" will stay with me forever...
I SAW THE LIGHT and LOVE IS THE ANSWER. Maximum Respect
If I could sit where Greg Bissonette is and play just one song along side Ringo, I could die feeling like I accomplished something.
The night I got to give Todd a big hug is the best day of my life.
If Ringo wants to play the high-hat, Ringo's gonna play that high-hat
+The Video Catalyst Project That's the funniest youtube line I've read in months...
+James Ward lol agreed
Man Todds voice is great in this clip!!!! Love this band and both of those songs.
Lukather, Todd Rundgren and RIngo what a combo!!!
Todd is truly a musical genius. On Hermit of Mink Hollow he played all the instruments and sang all the parts. His vocals on Can we still be Friends is complex and masterful.
He did the same for 3 of the 4 sides of Something/Anything. Genius. Said he could have written pop hits all day but it didn't challenge him. Ergo Utopia. Saw him as lead for.The New Cars and he was great. R and R Hall of Fame oversight in my view.
yep
New Cars could have been great
So true @ourwayne Hermit Of Mink Hollow just breathes Todd from side 1 to side 2...
Why he is not in the hall of fame is more than offensive
I love Todd Rundgren
In the 70's I bought RA and Oops Wrong Planet from Utopia, Love Is The Answer was my favourite because he sang it in a crazy way, glad to see he was doing the same years later on stage. I bough most of his albums with Utopia and in solo. Makes me want to listen again to Sunset Boulevard and all his songs and great guitar playing on RUclips...
I think I Saw The Light is the best pop song ever written. It is reluctantly sweet, like all the best 'will they won't they' romance stories. Second is I'm Not In Love by 10cc. Todd Rundgren is an undoubted musical mensch.
He's a hoot. Love him to pieces. What great songs he has written💜💜🌻
Wow I was in the 6th row of this concert in 2012! Love the all star band.
Would you please take the time to relate some or all of your memories of that show? I've seen Todd twice---once in San Francisco, once in Austin---and wow to both of those shows.
This song is unique......Todd's guitar is fabulous !!!
Ringo is very generous !!!!!!!!!! And a great Drummer
Richard B. Davis 😎😎😎😎😎🙂
I am so happy this exists.
I love this man's music! Perfection
Todd loves it. That's the way to command a stage 😎
Its good that ringo brought out these wonderful rock icons in my youth. Todd rundgren music has alwsys been different but has a good quality and sound that flows smoothly. Its to soft to be rock but bouncy enough to dance
try "Trapped",
"The Last Of The New Wave Riders",
"Man Of Action" and "Out Of Control" if you think the music's too soft!!
g'day, mate!
Love Rundgren's voice. So raw and thick.
Lukather?!!! I'd go just to see him!!!
Please do not overlook the talented and most fantastic guitar player from the band Toto....Mr. Steve Lukather. He is a legend as well. This line up of performers is pure magic. We sasw them here in Coquitlam,B.C. on Tuesday and they rocked!! If you can, try to see this gig. Peace and love to one and all.
Toto have been touring the US the last few years, keep an eye out. They're amazing live.
Hello. Steve is great but not a legend like Todd...
Both are rock hof worthy...they are not in why.? Janet Jackson?. Please. See Toto live just great as is Todd at seventy
The Beatles, The Nazz and Little Steven's Underground Garage brought me here. Some of the best music from my youth. A couple of real and wondrous characters (Todd and Ringo). They make the world a more colorful and interesting place. Thanks for posting this fantastic performance! Hey Ringo and Todd don't forget us in Cleveland, OH!
I saw that same lineup in Buffalo, NY. It was a small round venue with a rotating stage in the middle. My friend wore a HUGE red, white, & blue Uncle Sam's hat. Ringo saw it, ran up to us & borrowed the hat while he pranced around the stage to "Help from my Friends". He ran it back up & high-fived us...It was awesome! That was one of the best concerts I ever saw & I'm glad I got to see the late John Entwistle & Billy Preston... may they RIP
Todd still has it!!! I saw him in May this year at Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida with the new Global Album. He was awesome!! He added some old in with the new and I have to say I was very impressed with his more recent as well
He is good! Gosh, I just landed in California and this is one of the best songs!!!
Luke !!! holy crap it really is an allstar band
They "killed it" at the Greek.....fab concert, great crowd, fantastic venue...what to say....the Finale' was beyond all expectations with rockers coming in from the audience, Edgar Winter, Jeff Lynn (Elo), Peter Frampton, Micky Dolenz, the list goes on and if you missed the Greek this year...BE SURE YOU GET THERE AT RINGO's NEXT PERFORMANCE THERE!!!! His finale's are incredible!!!!
The good old days .I grew up with this music 😊
Just saw and heard this wonderful set and songs last night in gorgeous Bend OR; RINGO rules!!!! And Todd sounds amazing.....wow!
***** Great voices and I had forgotten Todd played more than the piano!!
Great video of Ringo and Todd. Great that they are still out there pumping the classics.
my bad in missing out. c'est la vie. TU for this.
Love the shirt on Todd!
i saw this tour in baltimore and enjoyed it very much it was my 65th birthday self-present
Great Post Thanks for Sharing.
Oh Todd, I live your music in my soul. Thank you! Love is the answer.
It's great to see so many positive comments for a video. It's sad that it looks like the only people looking it up are those who already love Ringo and Todd. If only we could go back in time and replace missionaries' bibles with solid albums like the ones these guys made...
Maybe the world would be a better place.
Good stuff! Loved seeing Todd and Steve jam together.
Saw them hanging out in Vegas after a show.
One of the most spiritually romantic songs ever performed. One my if most favorite. He is so talented I wish he knew that. He over sings it a lot and doesn’t seem to take it serious.
TR knows his gifts and is generally humble about them. He has sung both songs so often that he might seem to throw them off easily.
Here is a band just having a blast, brilliant performance from Todd and great music. It makes me smile!
This was one of the best Ringo bands, the 1992 lineup played great too!
Saw em at the Aladdin theater Las Vegas 1990.
Ringo Starr, Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgren, Dr. John, Billy Preston, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Clarence Clemons, Jim Keltner
Unbelievable show.
Did I see a woman in front of the stage signing to Love is the Answer? There is no better song in the world for that to be done for. Amazing as always Todd. Keep spreading the Love baby
Yes, In Santa Cruz, on the Boardwalk. 'The summer concerts' have a person signing to the left side of the stage.
that is cool; i'd love to see the signer being a little high and totally enjoying the beautiful message :-)
A fav song & musician! Bought the 45 when I was 12, then!
I love these guys Beatles Todd Rundgren I grew up with them God bless and keep you all
Easily on of my favourite Todd tunes...lights me up, everytime ⭐
Gregg Bissonette's always a blast to watch, seems to be having more fun, than everyone❗
Agreed!😊

Last Saturday, we finally saw our buddy sit in with some of his friends on guitar. He played the lead on I Saw the Light. 🫶🏻
I would so love to see Ringo and Todd in person cause blush Ringo was always my favorite beatle and the band sounds great together.
Thanks so much for posting this. I can't get out for shows anymore darn it! Love Todd!
2016 I was lucky enough in July before surgery on my bucket list to go see Ringo Starr's All Starr Band with Todd Rundgren I was in the fifth row and chart kind of had a snake skin looking outfit on he put on a good performance with the all-star band I'll never forget that surgery went okay obviously I'm still alive but it was on my bucket list lol
I LIKE THIS SONG A GREAT SOUND I STILL LIKE RINGO STARR AND TODD OF COURSE..
THANKS FOR THE COMENT MY FRIEND..
Todd is Godd. 😀
We saw this same lineup just the other day (6-14-'14) and it was a blast and the musicians were very good. We sat in the 2nd row with a last minute buy out in the parking lot in good ole Wallingford, Ct.
We went because Todd is still in the lineup.
I saw Todd Rundgren with Johnny Winter in the early 70’s at the Lakeland Civic Center. Best Concert ever. I was 14.
You can’t get any better , Todd still has it! Love love it!❤️
I lucked the f out being a teen in the 70's. Saw Todd Rundgren at Maple Leaf Gardens. We didn't know where his band was lol. He just stood on stage by himself. Amazing. Thanks Todd
Hello Cindy,
How're you doing
Thanks for being a fan of my musical craftiness,
It's nice meeting you here
This is one of Ringo's best all-star bands. In addition to Todd, the great Steve Lukather (of Toto) is on guitar.
i love you todd rundgren
za ka lu todd rundgen loves you too
Yes he is a genius& we're lucky we are here when it was happening.
Ringo and Steve lukather ?!?! Whoa... 🤟
I'll bet one of my best friends from HS years was there. We had lost track of each other and he had moved to Portland as a Musician himself, later headlining the White Eagle Saloon with his band, the Broken Strings ( on RUclips ). Cancer took him in 2016. Play on up there in Heaven Rob. See you up there someday, I know you're gonna introduce me to some freakin awesome legends.
No idea Todd wrote that LITA pop giant hit. There's a studio cymbal effect in that song that is sooo indelible.
+Jay Peek --and he played all the instruments
+atombomb31458 Yes he did. Great artist. But he can stop with the skinny jeans #ijs😂
Guitarwizza1 yeah true
Todd will be.......forever
this is the best line up he has ever had
I agree
Saw these guys just tonight. They still sound great!
Oh my gosh that must have been even more amazing in person. Thanks for posting
I must confess I thought LOVE IS THE ANSWER belonged to Dan & Coley. It all makes sense now. It does sound like one of the great Todd Rundgren songs ! Thanks for sharing. I just saw Ringo's show tonight and I was very pleasantly surprised.
Alright my buddy Greg on the drums. The only one without a hit song.
Amo esta versión con mi querido Ringo ❤
Vanishing Todd ... :) ... thank you for sharing this.
OK I am seriously grateful for the foundations that gave me my musical taste!
Yes his music is AMAZING!!!! 😊
I saw this band the other night! (11-4-17). Awesome! And Todd is brilliant and entertaining. They were all having a great time.
all i can say to you is...thank you thank you thank you for posting this!
