@blargyblargster Understandable, but as writers they have one more person, so that of course means more songs, more solos, and although I prefer just Adrian and Dave, Janick really fits well with them, especially at concerts.
He alternate picks it all the first time (down up down on the G, up on the E, repeat), then the second it's mostly legato (down on the G, hammer hammer, up on the E, down on the G, pull pull hammer hammer) lol if that makes sense.
Gilbert is a teacher and grad of GIT institute he knows theory and he knows how to simplify and create spontaneous and improvisational music. The guitar remains the musically expressive instrument a musician can play. Nothing can explore the range of tones and sound possibilities as a guitar. If it dies, music dies. People cannot even sing these days much less play anything. Rap&hip/hop, please, a monument to terrible taste in clothes and what suffers to be termed "music".
@tallicafan250169 My point still stands in my eyes. I like Maiden, but I really don't see the need for the third guitarist. He plays a couple harmonies every once in a while, and plays the exact same riffs the other two are playing when he's not. I just don't get it.
@blargyblargster 2 drummers are useful if they compliment and add to what one cannot do alone. It is not about over playing and clutter. I like when a guitar filled the room with a wall of tonal sound, these days they have three guys strumming and you cannot hear any of them actually doing anything. Probably because most of them cannot play. Listen to what Jeff Beck can do. If guitar dies, music dies, what is so bloody great about music with no instruments, is that music???
@CarvinTone I guess I see your point with two drummers, but the only times I've seen bands with two, they were playing the exact same beat. Really pointless, to be honest. As for number of guitarists, I agree entirely. I have a very strict two guitar limit for any band. With three, it just becomes so cluttered you can't even comprehend what's going on. If you can't manage it on two guitars, it's probably not necessary.
@alyomaya Two drum sets is completely pointless, and you should never have three of any type of instrument (save for orchestral stuff and things of that nature). Besides, rock and metal was founded with guitars. Why should we do away with them entirely? I'm all for experimentation and expansion, but there's no reason to completely exclude guitars.
What an amazing guitarist!
Can't not to admire this guy
I've gotten really good at skipping strings. Right now I'm skipping all of them.
😂😂😂
How amazing to have Paul as a teach. A true Master.
Not only the most articulate player in the world but an amazing teacher too..
Amazing tone and lesson.
If only there was a Paul gilbert for my generation. Would like a take and concepts from modern music from someone like paul gilbert.
fuck what a legend...he can play it properly and also play it BADLY!!!!...probably one of the best teachers i have seen
Awesome.
Very good! That killer lick was from the ending solo of his 2 become 1 by the way. :D
Who would of thought that pshyco with the power drill would become the Authority on Advanced guitar lessons. What a talented teacher he is.
1:42 he's so good he can even screw up perfectly
yeah you rock!
I wish there were videos like this with Rosenwinkel...
the moment you learn you've been doing it wrong this whole time because Paul Gilbert said so.
1 person's head exploded from this lesson.
Anybody out there that knows what amp Paul is using in this video? =) All i can see is Marshall Vintage..
i want his guitar
i was there =D
on the lick at 3:02 did he play all downstrokes on the G and upstroke on the E?

2:07 its the vortex of skipping...there's no escape xD

Its funny how he had to try to mess up when he was showing the example lol
Its so obvious, that he is a great teacher too.You actually understand what he mean,as opposed to many others where you sit like a big ?
Al Di Meola!

1:16 not the "G-string" lol
Nope, he uses regular Dunlop .60 tortex picks. He gives them out as freebies at his clinics.
Does he seem exhausted or is it just me?
@blargyblargster Iron Maiden ;)
he's trying to make a mistake but he cant! aha!!, I KNEW IT HE IS A GOD!!
he can even purposely screw up a lick perfectly!
