By far the best teacher one can have. And Paul is such a nice person, one cannot even imagine him getting angry or annoyed. There's just pure fun and happiness in him.
@@songman007 It's the same pattern of 3 notes across 2 strings, repeated at the 3 string "pairs" and at various positions. Figure out the first and you'll get the other pairs and you can just randomly walk up/down. What's interesting is that just as he says, the 2-note-string is only picked first then a pull-off (I looked at the video at 0.25x speed ;). Though, my left hand fingers get tangled up now instead..
@@ingeniouswild haha, yeah I think I figured this one out a few year back... when I commented on it there was no slow down feature in RUclips... so I did it old school... watched it a million times...
@@songman007 Yeah I think they had 0.5x for some time but the sound was garbled on 0.25x, now it seems to work decently on 0.25x. But sometimes I want 0.1x... haha... my ear can only "buffer" like 3 notes at a time, it's hell to sit and rewind on RUclips a thousand times..
Only Paul can use string skipping and easy in the same sentence. Such amazing talent and a phenomenal teacher. Intense Rock 1 changed my life as a musician forever.
Paul, you have to be the best teacher on earth! I went from a straight Blues guitarist (35 years of playing) to a shredder in 3 years, mainly by listening to your lessons and explanations of things. I believe, many great guitarists have no clue where their techniques come from; you, however, have an explanation for everything, which helps to break it all down into a learning technique called "chunking."
such a cool guy I have no interest In shred guitar and apart from a bit of death metal I never listen to it, but I just can't stop watching Paul Gilbert as he seems so genuine and gifted.
I got into the virtuosos first before I got into death metal and tech death and deathcore stuff. I still listen to this guy though haha! This guy, Joe Stump, Greg Howe, Satriani, Friedman/Becker, and Lane are all great guitarists that I still listen to.
as amazing as you are at shred and such, the one thing I get from these videos about your ability is rusty you're rhythm sense is f'n phenomenal. all around player, a true inspiration.
Yup. Paul's vision of patterns, knowledge of the rhythms and the use of notes is enormous...so intense and comprehensive. He taught me more than any other guitar player though some see him as a shredder without a sense of understanding.
Paul makes it look easy but god it ISN'T! Paul thank you for making a WORLD of difference in my picking with your advice and licks. I became a much more in control and confident alternate picker. You also was the one who introduced me to string skipping arpeggios.
Doubt that Paul Gilbert will see any of our comments, but I just have to say that Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, and Steve Vai..top 3 that changed my entire paradigm of what was possible on the guitar. Like all 3 for different reasons, but PG is probably the most complete for me.
He isn't. I was writing an e-mail to him through his official page like 5 years ago and he didn't respond. He uses YT but never responded to anyone I guess.
"all day, all night". string skipping face-melter. paul:"it's not so different". the worst part? mechanically, he ain't wrong. but that lick at around 2:44, i'm stealing that. thanks, paul! great teaching, as always!
If you like that lick, search for "Paul Gilbert Solo" and check the first video (HC60XNiS-MQ). He does that lick (and on different positions there around 1:00). Great stuff from Paul, as always!
Eddy - that lick is one of the most challenging licks I've ever learned. Still to this I can't play it as fast as Paul does it in the Mr. Big video called "Paul Gilbert Solo" on RUclips. Paul is always great when it comes to rhythm analysing.
Medical issues with my hands and old age have robbed me of my string skipping abilities. I can now only do them with 2 notes per string with basic pentatonic scales.
Master Kostas he had a website where he uploaded lesson videos. idk if it's still up, but it was great. or you could buy his old lesson video where he has huge hair and a hot pink guitar. it's probably on RUclips still. his and Vinnie Moores were my teachers for years. I still use them when I'm feeling sloppy
Thats a classic Paul lick. If you look up "Paul Gilbert solo" it's the one where he's not wearing a shirt. Mr. Big show in Japan. He nailed it in that vid
Except that you don't go from 1st to 6th fret. You just go down one string and get the same result. Why waste energy and movement? hahaha Like, if I'm going from F to E on the 6th string (think Symphony of Destruction), I do the E power chord with my middle finger, and thus don't have to move my hand at all.
"String skipping is easy"
Thanks, Paul.
Yeah, Thanks Paul
This guy is a genius on so many levels. His understanding of the instrument is nothing short of masterful..
He's such a good teacher too. And he loves to teach. He's not afraid to show everyone exactly how to play his stuff.
Shoulda called this segment, "Money for nothing and licks for free".
Lol, I went to comments to leave the same comment, and it's first on the top
I could play in a loop the four seconds @2:44 the rest of my life. Love you, Paul!
By far the best teacher one can have.
And Paul is such a nice person, one cannot even imagine him getting angry or annoyed. There's just pure fun and happiness in him.
3:40 "Lemme play that a little better..."
My heart did a little flip when he played it again.
sure wouldnt mind the tab for that lick...
@@songman007 slow the video down and watch his fingers, wouldnt take you long

Couldn’t have said it better!
Paul, you're the man! Thank you for your devotion and passion towards the instrument!
Golden spirit Paul. Such positivity.

I learn something new every time I listen to Paul Gilbert for more than 60 seconds.
He's still got it
enough for 10 people!
Never lost it.

For real dude
Paul Gilbert is a prodigy on guitar.
I got into the virtuosos first before I got into death metal and tech death and deathcore stuff.

Brother, you are lit. And yes, the legacy of it all. The details. Thank you for being "that guy".
The BEST video series ever !
Paul a Class Act......a friend was his guitar tech in Japan for a small tour, told me he is a super nice guy who can play anything on guitar.
half the fun in these videos is the great guitar playing, other half is Paul's being so goddamn nice and pleasant
Spectacular player, teacher and artist....thankful. Chas from KILLCODE
How can someone not love Paul GIlbert?
2:44 with the end on it is THE lick and you can tell by the smile
Where is this lick from? What song? I can’t seem to find it! Please let me know!
@arponchakraborty3331 not any particular song, but he uses it in his live Mr. Big Tokyo 1992 unaccompanied solo
Paul Gilbert is awesome guitar player!
Love Paul Gilbert for having opened my eyes and made me understand I suck.. and I will always do :)
Such an unbelievably humble guy.. Someone you might mistake for your helpful guy next door
What a great guy and musician
Incredible player
Paul is so articulate and cerebral !
I love these scarified episodes super cool
Paul Gilbert is awesome
What an amazingly,nice,unassuming guy!🎸

Wow...As a fan i'm in awe of his playing!! As a person who never played a guitar I'm like a deer in the headlights!
These videos have helped me progress my guitar playing in so many unexpected ways. Thanks Paul!

You would be surprised. Paul can be very hands-on with his pages and even emails.
If you want to get right down to it, the master of them all was Shawn Lane.
He isn't. I was writing an e-mail to him through his official page like 5 years ago and he didn't respond. He uses YT but never responded to anyone I guess.
LukeInside imagine if he respond to every comment and yt post, it would take 24/7

I've been learning that lick for 2 or 3 years for now and I still can't play it as fast as Paul does :)
That lick is fucking sick :) Just stole it too haha..
If you play the lick, you have to do the facial expressions too!
Sort of Sheldon Cooper on shrooms.

Great stuff Paul
Wow this was really helpful
Paul Gilbert au Top!!!
*plays something godly* “hold on, need to play a lil better” *plays a completely different godly lick*
awesome guy, great player
So great to hear him mention Skynyrd one of the greatest bands of the 70's for sure! Paul is the man. Cheers P[>
I find Paul Gilbert delightful
Fantastic fluid tone. Great stuff. He literally made me go woah :p Gotta love this guy man!
Kickass!
I definitely went,”ooohhh”. Lol. Sooo good.
Yeah got that Paul thanks
MONSTER guitarist! MONSTER hands! :O
I like it
He is such a genius. I met him once and he is absolutely genius and down to earth. Great series by the way.
Medical issues with my hands and old age have robbed me of my string skipping abilities. I can now only do them with 2 notes per string with basic pentatonic scales.
Paul Gilbert is a god among insects.

Love these video's man and YOU ARE the man :-)

“Let me play it a little better “
Wait. . .there was a mistake? 🤔
😂😂😂
if anybody ever needed ridilin, paul sure does, but that's why I like him
Kemper Amp sounds great.
ポールの手がでかいからスキッピングは簡単なんやね❤️ 私は大人用のギターが大きすぎるのでキッズギターを買いたくなりました! 大好き❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can skip a meal...but not a string...and he says its easy...
What is the song at 2:45? It’s a famous lick from a song but I can’t find it!
The old school sounds soooo much better than the hyper speed notes.
hello paul. can u do the video review of that kamper profiler behind you? thank you so much.
Can it count to be on par if you can string skip 4 string in a arpeggio that goes EDGE
Is this what happens when you give a scientist a guitar? Not just a random scientist however, a groovy one???
"Makes people go OoOoOoOo"
I read the topic as if it was string skipping on a 12-stringed.
how I can take lessons from this amazing guitar God and how much will cost me? plz if you know tell me I want it so badly
Master Kostas he had a website where he uploaded lesson videos. idk if it's still up, but it was great. or you could buy his old lesson video where he has huge hair and a hot pink guitar. it's probably on RUclips still. his and Vinnie Moores were my teachers for years. What guitar is he playing here?
Kempering
Is his fingers length also help with it?
Not really
Slow down the play back speed to 0.25x. You won’t regret it.
¿Something can explain me what model is that ibanez? ¿PGM 401 but the bridge is not the original? Sorry for my bad english
that is one of his new signature series
it's a pgm401, he put a trem in
Bach!
It's seems easy.........WHY!?
12 string skipping? ouch
does anyone know where 2:40 is from?
its just randomly played
Thats a classic Paul lick. If you look up "Paul Gilbert solo" it's the one where he's not wearing a shirt. Mr. Big show in Japan. He nailed it in that vid
Did Paul really say this is basic stuff lol maybe for him it's basic but not for us mere mortals lol
Practice for nothing and the 1:02
hola: 13 - 10 - 2016

Gabriel Martins he does it just to prove he can do it he's a master
Exactly. No one will hear the difference. Excess effort. I'd like to see Gilbert & Gambale do an album together. A Truth In Shredding Part 2. :-)
“Let me play a little better” Um??????
2:48
LMAO what
yea cause string skipping is easy
That intro bugs me out everytime. Isn't there some sort of an editing flaw?
it's no editing flaw, he's just a little early on one of the notes of the riff.
The intro is cut from a full version of the phrase, which is in the episode 11. So yes, it might sound a bit off due to editing.
