    I was at a Mecum Auction about a year ago.... Crazy. That's all I can say. It was pure lunacy.
    Early in the day, they were auctioning all these beer signs, from this bar/restaurant in the area that was closing. The bids, were insane. I was literally pulling up on my phone, those exact signs, brand new, free shipping, for a quarter of what people were bidding.... Plus there's a buyers fee, above your bid..... which seems insane, when you say it out loud... I feel like my bid, is what I would PAY.... It feels very wrong, to then come in and say "yeah, there's a 10% buyers fee..." How is there a fee for being a buyer??? YOU NEED BUYERS!!!!
    And the cars??? omg. There were cars there, that I know something about. I know what they go for. I know what they're worth. So a few, I kinda had a number in my head, that, yeah, look, maybe I overpay a little, but this car is nice.... Uhhh, yeah, negative ghostrider. The number in my head, TIMES FIVE, AT LEAST.
    I honestly was like, did I take the wrong pills this morning??? Am I in an alternate state of reality??? What is happening here?
    And to be honest, like, the last dozen auctions I went to, has been very similar. The numbers make no sense at all.... Even "regular" auctions, not these crazy ones, have gone nuts. The bidding gets to a point where it's crazy high, and then they announce "reserve not met, no sale", and I'm just like, what?!?!??! That's impossible...
    I mean, look, there's always those auctions, where a rich person shows up, and unloads... And there are always those cars, like the #1 Supra, where it's going to charity, and the rich person doesn't even care, he/she needs the tax writeoff.... so they just pay, they literally don't even care, they need that donation receipt, for their taxes... So I get that, those prices are wildly inflated.... But regular cars, at regular goofy wholesale auctions... ???? I have no clue.

    • @kaptnkarl01
      @kaptnkarl01 Год назад +21

      People go crazy stupid at auctions. I don't know about car auctions but I have been to several gun auctions. I have seen people pay several times the value for a gun that they could buy new in the store for a fraction of the price. I think they get caught up in the action and concentrate more on "winning" than they do getting a good price.

    • @patrickmorrissey2271

      @@kaptnkarl01 "Auction Fever" is definitely a thing.... I've seen some things at gun auctions, but nothing compared to the car auctions I've been at in the last 24 months..... and in a gun auction, I mean, there is always the idea in your head, that, tomorrow, politicians could make it impossible to buy that item.... which, in the car world, is not really that huge of a concern.....

      Auction Houses for Cars incl Websites have normal Prices for the same and similar Models shown in the Video here, i just checked the Archives of the past 12 Months and these US Car Auction Prices are obviously People abusing a Financial Loophole that is legal in the USA but illegal in most European Countries. Laws to avoid Artificial Inflation and "Insider Auctioneering" which obviously leads to inflated Prices and artificially pumps up Prices of certain Cars even though they don't go up in the Rest of the World.
      This btw. is also why on Big European Car Marketplaces like "Mobile" a ton of People selling their Car (Both Private or Business) add to their Description or even in the Title:
      "NO BUYERS FROM THE US/NORTH AMERICA" because as you can imagine with the Artificially Inflated Prices in the USA, a ton of US Dealers and Car Flippers try to import what they can get from over here to then sell it for 4x the Price in the USA

      I always say that the automotive market is turning into the art market, and a similar thing happened to the art market in the '80s. Works of art went from being bought because the buyer liked them, to works of art being bought solely as investments, thus seeing a huge increase in prices and wealthy people just buying works they have no emotional attachment to or actually care about and keeping them more from people who genuinely like the piece of art/artists. Art galleries had a harder time buying works, which is why you also see more art at galleries now from private collections. But with so much of it now being it private collections, a lot of it can be hidden away from public view. The art market now is even more of a scam, and even new art is treated solely as investments by people who only see dollar signs and not the work, itself. The works of Banksy being a prime example. You can also get a rigged market where certain artists are pushed by creating a false demand and manipulating prices to make their work appear to be worth more than it actually is. But going back to the automotive market, I do think the electric car future is also a factor is some of these prices, as people want to buy some of these rare cars as investments thinking that an electric car future will drive up the prices more on these ICE cars. That's also why I think some of the ICE cars are being bought brand new and instantly put away in collections.

    USS Tokyo is the largest auction in Japan.
    And actually the numbers that have been coming out of there on regular Japanese sports cars that most of us think of when thinking JDM car have actually been going down more and more every month.(all S chassis especially S15, 3 star and lower skylines, and also cars like the Mark 2 with a jzx 90, or the Chaser with the jzx 100, and even the toyota century
    all of the cars I've mentioned , which are what most people were surprised the price went up so quick have been actually losing huge amount in selling value, OR not even coming close to meeting the reserve.
    everyone kind of knew that there was a bubble. but it looks like it is really about to , "if not burst" , at least "let some air out "
    As for the cars you spotlighted in here. those REAL collectors cars, and also like the Skyline R34 V-spec Nur, and cars like the R33 Nismo 400R., and the Tommy Makinen Evo VI, and of course certain Supras. . there are still more like that .those types of super rare iconic cars that were produced in low numbers, they seem to be the only ones holding value.

    • @theeturnone
      @theeturnone Год назад +2

      Also i wanted to add. if you are thinking about using Japanese auctions PLEASE have someone on the ground there.
      all of the auction houses over there seem to be pretty crooked. taking money for higher ratings is like well known over there.
      also some of these japanese mechanics, and or car flippers are genius, and dirty. in some cases ive seen where they will just spray paint right over rust, and these mechanics can rig stuff like no other, and the sellers have become masters in photography.
      so it is worth it, to pay the person, on the ground over there to go to the auction site or shop to see the car in person.
      Also, if you ar in the car community, there is probably a friend of a friend willing to check out a car for you
      peace, Eturn
