He is questioning, not arguing, to elicit information. He has not yet started the defense portion of the trial. Closing arguments will be the last part of the trial before it goes to the jury. That is when "arguments " will be made.

IMO Lori didn’t come across as dangerous or psychotic when LE interviewed her. She just acted like a dingy, silly woman at that point, Not a serial killer.
Alex Cox should have been arrested the moment he shot Charles Vallow.
Tammy seems to have been a trusting, kind soul. I imagine she saw red flags, but didnt want to believe her husband of so many years, and father of so many children, could be the monster he truly is.

The sad part is it was probably a real gun but Tammy just would never have imagined it was real. She had no idea how seriously she and the police should have taken that “paintball gun”.
The fact is that a lot of people aren’t very familiar with guns and can’t tell the difference between them I think it’s much more likely that it was Alex with a real gun that possibly misfired or malfunctioned than some other unconnected random person with a paintball gun that just happened to show up so close to her death.
