iOS 13 - Most Important iPhone update ever! (for professionals)

- The newly released update for iOS devices, iOS 13 has the most significant new feature since its launch. What is that? The frustrating data limitation has now been lifted. Yes! If you use a powered Apple lightning to USB adaptor (Clagnut!) then you can access your files without the previous limitations. You can now access any file of a thumb drive, card reader or hard drive. Finally this allows iOS devices to be used in a truly professional capacity and significantly reduces the need to connect it to a computer to transfer files. Bravo Apple this is good news.

Now..i’ve got an iPad, an iPad Pro, and i’m thinking of getting an (used) iPhone.
The ecosystem rocks, for music and graphic art.. and with this update, it really is able to do what it was supposed to doing, in the beginning.

Fab thanks Gaz I have an old 30pin sd card reader for Apple and used it with a converter on the iPhone 6s. Files moved across fine and no power bank needed.

If you have the lighting to sd card reader dongle you can read cards without the power supply attached. I just tested it.
Everyone at least once a day should meet a person, who is as excited as Gaz is because of cables and a software update.

Your cable on the CCK dongle can be fixed with Sugru - expensive if you leave it to break.
sean o'haimheirgin well spotted! It’s doing that annoying fraying that only Apple’s over priced cables do. One of Apple’s most frustrating things they do. I have tried Sugru but I’d be curious to see if there were other solutions too.

Can you record video directly to external too? I always thought it was silly that you could record really nice 4K video but Apple never gave you enough space to shoot very much.
Is there a thumb drive which plugs directly into a Lightning-connector iPad without any need for a dongle, and which works with the iOS Files app?

It's so funny looking at that iPhone with cables, adapters and powerbank to finally operate a SD-card or a USB drive. I prefer card slots inside a mobile phone. The missing file access was the main reason, I never bought an iPhone. Even when iOS 13 is ready for the iPad - it won't run on my iPad 4, because Apple does nothing for devices older than 3 years. File access is a very essential feature and should be a standard function independent from the iOS version. It would be a great news, if it would become available as an update for different iOS versions together with a newer Safari browser version and some security updates for all, who spent a lot of money into a overpriced tablet computer. Just my two cents. And connecting a HUB, a USB drive and a big power bank to the "well designed" iPhone looks like a bad joke to me. You need an adapter hub to connect USB devices. Is that really cool?
Jörg Schaaf yep I agree with all of that however it is still excellent news if you use your iOS devices (aww if it is compatible) for many pro purposes.
@@GazWilliams Sorry for overreacting... At that morning, my iPad Safari browser reloaded a German News magazine page (Spiegel) around 10 times with an error message before I just stopped surfing with the (i)Pad.

That we're all so excited for such a basic feature, says a lot... not how great it is, but rather how LONG it took... It's easy to forget that probably most were expecting this feature to come at any moment, about a decade ago.
Many gave up, and so this coming "out of the blue" when noone expects it to come at all, makes it "GREAT"? Says more about how bad Apple sucks, having neglected it for sooo looooooong...

It depends what it is. If it is an Apple Card reader then no but the one I have needs the powered USB adapter. The SSD clearly needs powers but I’m curious is some thumb drives will work. Anyone else chip in?

13.0 is supposed to be super buggy. 13.1 is being released Tues 24th - may be worth waiting a few days till then.
Hm I haven’t had any issues yet. I know a few people that have had the beta since July and they only experienced a few bugs but it was random and nothing major. Where did you hear this? AFAIK, no one around me has had any major bugs. If anything my phone is faster and working much better now.

David Hoskins I can see your point but modern iPhones have phenomenal cameras, cpus and multichannel audio recording facilities that the ridiculously irritating data limitations being lifted is a big deal for creatives and professionals.
@@GazWilliams Yeah, sorry man, I just don't buy iPhones. Google phones are also pretty much locked down. It is weird how we come to accept less hardware connectivity in this Internet world.

I think originally it was to stop music piracy but as everyone now streams music they must have thought it was time to change the limitations. About time too, should have done it (at least on the iPad) 10 years ago.

@@GazWilliams That's so messed up, to limit all users of any task involving moving files over USB, because some people could "potentially" use it for illegal purposes. Why did they allow us to have a camera then? Or messaging apps? Etc... They could also potentially be used for many illegal purposes... Following Apple's reasoning, I'm sure they'll find other ways to piss off/on their paying customers. Like bricking old devices that aren't "logged out" from an iCloud account, because it could "potentially" be stolen? No wait, they already did, right!

Well that's cool, but on checking it now appears I've reached that horrible milestone where my Apple device (previously iPad 3, now applies to my iPhone 6) will not take another iOS update. Boo!
