Great video, I have a 4.3 V8 Vantage with a MT 6 speed purchased in 2018, at the time 18,000 miles in as new condition. Its been an awesome car and more than enough power. The nice thing is you can rev it out, hear that beautiful exhaust note and not hit speeds that will put you in jail. We play a lot of golf and you can put two carry bags in the trunk and luggage for a long weekend. It has the Linn sound system which is the best I've heard.

If you like the original V8 Vantage (right and proper), surely a 90's Virage would be a good stepping stone? As for their usability, my Dad had a '71 DBS6 Vantage and that was his daily driver from 72 - 77, the car that turned me into a petrol head! The sound, smell, everything! His "toy" was a 59 Borgward Isabella Coupe.

First of all: great video! I loved the elaborate list per car, as well as Ben's guest appearance and Neil's own input.
My vote would have to go to the Vanquish S Ultimate. I think it wears the carbon accents rather well, and the unusual quad exhaust works well with the more aggressive diffuser. That granite color, though. My word, one of the best gray paints I've ever seen. Furthermore, even if you're putting miles on it, it should hold its value for being such a rare thing relative to the other choices.
All in all, I'm curious to see where your Aston journey will take you! Keep up the great content, James!

This was a great video for me. I’ve never visited Nicholas Mee so it was good to see the showroom. I also like the fact you don’t always follow the trend of most car guys by always agreeing that the manual version is the best. The last thing was hearing your emotional reaction to the xenon grey Vanquish S Ultimate edition. As you know, grey is my favourite colour but it has to be the right type of grey. The biggest compliment I can pay to any you tube entrepreneur is that I have watched your reviews of the Vanquish Gen 2, Rapide S and DBS more than once as they are cars I may add to my Aventador S. I re-watch your Ferrari videos again as you are a serious Ferrari owner and I’ve never owned one. Best wishes with your excellent content.

Was fortunate enough for Nicholas to give me a tour of the showroom - and whilst the DBS is very tempting that Vanquish S Ultimate is utterly breathtaking in the metal. We do. In the UK cars are generally very cheap because of a number of reasons. Cars like this however are cheaper simply because barely anyone can afford one. In the UK most people are living paycheck to paycheck even when they are earning large amounts. It's a mindset thing rather than a money thing tbh. There was a story in the news recently about a MP earning £100k who recently had to sell his cars and his second house because he was going through a divorce and didn't have any disposable money to pay the settlement to his ex wife. Most people have no savings and just live in the moment of I have money lemme spend it

You said you didn’t get on with the V12 Vantage when you drove it. You do not need that permanent feeling after spending all that money so we can easily eliminate that car.
The Vanquish S Ultimate which you showed is over budget however if you can find one for a better price (ordinary Vanquish S) it’s a potential goer.
Which now leaves the DBS…. Its in budget ✔️ It won’t depreciate as aggressively as the Vanquish S Ultimate ✔️ It’s not grey or silver ✔️ You mentioned a build series making the DBS to how you want it, which creates content and viewers (£££)…. Overall I feel the DBS is a clear winner (if you had to take one there and then) not only a personal choice but also a business one.
And just to bring the vanquish back in to the room, what if you found one that matches the DBS? (In budget, not grey or silver and also has room for a build series)…..?

    • @SteveJrC
      @SteveJrC 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@JayEmmOnCars
In that case, this could be a tremendous U-turn on what I previously posted…
I was following on the assumption if we had to take one of those 3.
With the power to weight ratio and shorter wheelbase, it will likely be the most ‘fun’ to drive.
If you find a automatic V12 Vantage S in budget… I would then swing towards that, purely because the joy it will bring that you could push it harder with confidence when cornering and the acceleration pull will feel more exaggerated.
      It still isn’t a easy decision…
What are you looking for exactly?
      Looks or driving experience?
The DBS and Vanquish I’d say show more class and presence but would you become bored? (Don’t get me wrong, the Vantage is still a attractive car).
You can’t see the car when behind the wheel and thus it becomes the experience….
And with that my U-Turn decision comes into play and I’ll go for the V12 Vantage S.
Hopping into the other 2 would be a nice experience but I feel the Vantage will make you feel like you always have to give it some welly because it will give you that rush of joy.
If you can’t find the perfect spec, it’s not a disaster as the build content comes into play 😎
Apologies if this has made decision making more complicated.

Out of those three, I would mostly be tempted by the Vanquish S just because the Vanquish S is the most sports car oriented out of all of them, and with it being a newer model, it will have the best transmission out of the bunch for both sport and daily driving. However, in regards to aesthetics, I am always going to look for a car with color. And while the touch of orange is nice on the Ultimate's interior, it is not enough to sway me. I will always be looking for a blue, red, orange, purple exterior color, so my vote out of these three is the DBS. However, I do think you would be able to find a Vanquish S with a great color combination if you did a little more looking, if you are keen on that model.

Honestly, I'd say you go for the DBS. As a fellow DBS enjoyer and fan, I absolutely see the appeal of the Virage, and especially the 2nd gen Vanquish. However, none of the two cars would scratch the itch that the DBS, essentially, represents in my heart.
I don't care if any of those cars are a better drive or a better car altogether than the DBS, I love the DBS and that's it, and that's what it comes down to with cars such as these. Buy it with your heart Jay, not your head, because a 2010 Citroen C5 will be a better daily driver than all three of these combined.

The Vanquish S with the 8 speed zf for me has always been the best looking out of this gen of Astons. It’s just amazing inside and out.

Vanquish S every time...but not that one at that money-I agree with you. I've just bought a 2018 DBS Superleggera for £30-40k less than that Vanquish and it is also Xeon Grey and you are so right, stills or video just can't do that paint any justice-it's simply stunning. The Superleg ain't perfect but it is utterly stunning IMO and a massive amount of car for £125-135k.

The Sportshift 3 is great in my opinion. It’s still a single clutch automated manual, but I love it.

I also love my sportshift 3 and drive it all year round, it offers a level of engagement you don't get with a straight auto box. I always say that you have to "lift and shift" to get the best out of it.

The quandary is that if you get caught up obsessing about spec, you can end up never getting any of them. Best to go for the one you like, but the best example you can afford and enjoy the experience. A friend of mine is so obsessed with spec, that he never enjoys what he has - grass is always greener on the other side syndrome.

JWW's modded DBS is insane. Probably very hard to justify even if it's just 1% of your car budget. But hits the spot for me.

That blue 1979 Vantage is also my personal dream - you have excellent taste, James, and I will probably still be dreaming of it on my deathbed, sadly!
Go for it if you ever possibly can.
As for myself, I'm going to be very happy with my currently achievable realistic dream of a Rapide S! Fingers very crossed!

A friend has had DB9, DBS Vantage v12 New, and now is on his Second Vanquish Mk1, he says it's the best Aston, the 1st was a near daily driver.

I must say it would have to be a manual v12 vantage a poster car for my self ever since seeing Tiff Needell had one flat out round the millbrooke test centre, after driving this and the DBS and liking it over the 599 he wasn’t sure if he would ever be invited back to Maranello. That says it all for me

A few years back I saw a flame orange DBS at the Wilton Car Show, it looked absolutely stunning. The moment I saw I regreted buying Lightening Silver and wanted it so badly, then I noticed that it was an auto and not manual and didn't feel quite so envious.

  • @RoundMangos

Really agree with what you've said, Vanquish non S looks better than the S, it's stunning, it just looks right. The V12 Vantages, it seems like whichever version you pick the gearbox is just not up to par for a sportier car, it will always be compromised.
So for me it has to be the DBS, I must admit it's my all time favourite car so I was always going to pick it, but in that colour and with those wheels, it's truly spectacular. That colour is proper rare, and I'm sure the silver-grey ratio is higher than 72%! Also those wheels are not only the lesser spotted ones but in particular in this silver finish instead of the diamond-cut ones they are even less so and boy do they look good!

Have driven all of these as a former Aston owner. I would say that the V12 Vantage S is super exciting - unhinged and raw - in Sport mode but in Comfort mode it is just too benign. A real car of extremes. As the flagship car the Vanquish S has that extra level of polish - powertrain, handling, a comfort mode that is that bit more involving. It is a car that will reward you over the long term more than the Vantage does. A mention though to one other model which I thought was maybe the pick of the VH cars. The DB9 GT. I know you tested one before but it is just such a good car. Worthy of consideration I feel.
