- The new Aston Martin Valour is a 715bhp, V12 monster, which is manual only and costs £1.5M. They're only making 110 examples but is this the greatest driver's Aston of them all?

thank God its only 1.5 million. I was beginning to think i wouldnt be able to afford it
1.5 million??!! That's more than I make in a month! 😂
If I threw my Fabia in PX, reckon I could get one on a lease deal.
😂
Hilarious comment!
Yeah, lots of bang for your buck!
We met Harry at Goodwood this year! My brother and I accosted him for a quick photo. (Which he obliged)
He quickly began chatting about cars then had to dash.
Honestly made our day!
Proper petrolhead, which is why I often find myself agreeing with his opinion on how a car goes down the road.
I met him boarding a plane a few years ago and he was exact the same, very open for a chat. Top bloke!
Increasingly feeling these type of cars only exist to take money from hyper-rich collectors who will never out any miles on them. I bet Harry put more miles on the car making this video than most owners will.
Certainly living up to that Grumpy name

Given Aston's current naming strategy, surely their next car will be called the Velcro.

I had to get a second hand grill from the scrap yard once too, Sod’s Law they didn’t have the right colour either, I had to rock around like this for a few weeks until I got it painted.
Quick paint it rattle can red primer and get it out the garage.
You just summed up what I was about to say, but better. Who thought a contrasting colour was going to make it look better!
Should have painted it lifeboat orange like the Rover 200's then no-one would've noticed. Doesn't explain the designed by 7 year old rear spoiler/bootlid though. Should

@@andywright1634in sliver it probably wouldn’t be as bad
Good on Aston for selling them all, but at 1.5 million, that interior is borderline insulting.
Agreed. You can buy a used DB9 for like 30k that has a much nicer, less plasticky interior. That tablet screen looks so cheap. I like how the older Astons used to be able to completely hide the screen.
Agreed. Looks like it should have a pipe holder in there to match the tweed.
‘Borderline’ is a diplomatic way of putting it. It’s like a 70s Scottish haberdashery threw up in there
I like how they didn't even bother to change the image of the Vantage on the vehicle settings screen.
It's a pre-production car that's making the rounds with all the auto journalists. Probably will be updated in the final production car
So lazy by Aston Martin team for a £1.5M car. What a shame.
It's a super cynical exercise really. The spec is dreadful. It looks great when speced right. But 1.5 million with so little material difference to the v12 vantage. Rip off merchants.
@@YusssoM What difference does a graphic make to driving experience? Christ go touch grass.

It looks like it's been made from parts of three different cars and it seems the sum is not worth 1.5M. Thanks again Harry for bringing all these cars to us.
For my 1.5 million I would expect something better than a bit of moulded plastic on the steering column. I can get that on a Fiesta. AM should look at Pagani or Koenigsegg to see how it should be done.
💯
I know what you are saying, but if these are all sold, which they probably are, then they will never be driven. They will go in to someone's car collection and there they will stay, under a cover, away from sunlight and never to be seen again.
I fully agree. It's a shame that they just thought "manual transmission = money"
They were all sold, according to Harry,so comments are somewhat superfluous 😂
They tried doing a Pagani with the exposed shift mechanism. A bad idea, as it turns out.
13:28 Love the fact that Harry has just put a simple sticker on a speedo. No need for post-production nonsense.
Plausible deniability.
Great video thanks Harry & Co. Strange front end, almost a bit Mustang!
Mustang was my first thought too

And that roundel has to go, blimey
I honestly thought from the notification thumbnail in my side bar, that it was a jazzed-up Mustang! Must be my astigmatism...Does bugger all for me at a price like that.
The first thing I thought was “I don’t fancy cleaning those wheels”! Forgetting that if you can afford it you have a full time wheel cleaning chap/ chapess.
Wish the wheels had a more dished look to them. A wee homage to the BBS cross spoke. But not a fan of that dimond cut.
Looks a nightmare to remove brake dust. But as you say they'll have a brake dust remover person.
@@edgarbeat2851 No brake dust with ceramics he said.
not hard to clean wheels you just use a 99p paint brush
Is it me or do I smell a whiff of 037 in that profile?
Easy to clean. Handheld drill with soft brush attachment. Let wheels soak in BMW wheel gel for 3-5 mins. Then start "drilling" every hole. You can also make a plastic shield to prevent brakedust from splashing in your face.
I saw this car parked outside the Lygon Arms in Broadway a week before the British GP. I wondered then if it was Harry on a review. Beautiful looking car in the flesh.
Um, no it's not.
love the way the bonnet and fenders flow
Looks like a 2005 Mustang with a body kit.

In the real world, the point of this car is to extract as much money from the buyer as possible.
.....the red at the front is tasteless
Like car manufacturers having been using this strategy for decades.
I mean, this has been going on since the 80's, bit late to start crying about it.
Definitely,priced to the clientele
...as opposed to "normal" cars where they don't really want your money😊
Astons used to be so elegant and beautiful from every angle. Everything from the mid 00s to the late 10s was timeless and would be appreciated forever. The DB9 and derivatives, the Vantage, the One-77 were all absolute hits. These things are over styled, over done, and just messy. Really too bad. Having said that, any manual is a good car and I'm glad to see it being made.

I doubt the prospective buyer for this is thinking anything beyond, "this looks fantastic + I'll be one of the 100 people to own this in the world."

I've watched quite a few reviews of this car and saw it in the flesh at Goodwood. No one seems to pick up on the rear light bar being hugely reminiscent of the Porsche 959. Is it just me or is anyone else seeing that? Stunning car regardless
Absolutely gopping colour scheme, and shows that class can't be bought by throwing money at a car. Engine is awesome, obviously, but the rest of it looks like the parts bin was raided to put it together.
I must say When Harry thought it was a good thing that they'd lacquered in the Number disc on the door, I thought the opposite.
Those were my thoughts too, if I had that sort of money to spend on a car I can think of loads I’d prefer and still have a substantial wedge to stick in the bank. Appreciate that’s not the point of a car like this but each to his own I suppose.
I agree with the “parts bin” comment, as there is a lack of design integration externally and internally, where the dashboard and displays look cheap and dated? The internal noise level is similar to a twenty five year old Cerbera and that whining noise from the differential is almost as annoying as the shoddy, exposed gear change?
What is happening with car design? It used to be that as kids, we would have these gorgeous dreamy sports cars on our bedroom walls to remind us of what beauty is. And if you had a chance to see it in person, it would have been the highlight of your childhood. Maybe I am too pessimistic, but the beauty is partially gone from automotive design. Sorry Aston, your older designs are far more elegant and beautiful.
@@BP-xe7dw legislation is a big part and marketing. Not building really what they want but to cater to whims of others.

@@MrVorpalsword I can't unsee that 😆 just need auto arm lip stick application and a sun shade umbrella with frills.
Harsh comment is an understatement. My tea is on my lap from the reaction 🥵
Agreed. I don't think it's me getting old and pessimistic, either. Legislated design standards are one major influence, I think. Pedestrian crash standards controlling hood heights. Maybe side impact concerns birthing these super tall belt lines. Everything has gotten exaggerated and extreme. We're working with differerent generations of designers, too. Look at all the gross influences on younger people these day. Nonstop stimulation from their stupid phones. There's no subtley in the avalanche of media blitzing their brains.
This Aston is a great example. I want to think it's really cool but I just don't. At all. It looks like a tacky cartoon. Power level is appropriately absurd for modern cars, which is three times what it needs to be fun and reasonable on any public road, but it just doesn't have any classic swagger like the old stuff. And that "tribute" front end is just ridiculous. A perfect example of how the design culture has seemingly lost its way.
@dclipper8052 100% agree. Always gets me the crazy power levels. I still think 300bhp / 400bhp is still more than plenty. I'm 40 and I'd pick the 70s 80s equivalent. Aston, it oozes William Towns style brutish elegance charecter.

Just been on the configurator and specced one in Minotaur Green with silver wheels and a tan interior with the comfy chairs and as little carbon garnish as possible. Looks the business.
Did you pick a different color for the grill?
If they redesigned the front and backend, repainted it and binned the wheels, this would look quite good.

Ouch, but funny
Yes, this could be a parody of an A-M and nobody would bat an eye.
The front end with red grille surround reminds me of drawings used in health/science to represent the anatomy of the human head. The headlights being the eyes and the lips/fascial muscles being the grille. Otherwise, judging by goodwood videos it sounds so brutal at full tilt. Even the induction noise from the turbos sound great.
I'm not a fan of that gear linkage. To me it just looks like a gator is missing.
Some metal ferrari style gates to cover that panel would A make it less sloppy, and B make it more aesthetically pleasing.
🐊👈 found it
Something of a dust magnet I should think? Gaiters exist for a reason 😂
If there was a gator the change might be a bit more snappy 😉
Never eat anything in the Valour or you risk having crumbs go in to the linkage for the rest of eternity
@@UpTheAnte1987"customer states vehicle wont go into 3rd gear. almond nut removed from shift linkage. vehicle operates normally"
Ah...I thought it might be you. I was on holiday in UK and in the Cotswolds...saw this go past in Stow (you did well navigating that through the god-awful traffic jam through the temporary lights on the main road). I was gutted not to get a picture as you went past (at all of 30 mph)...front looked a bit odd but was great from every other angle. Glad I could get a proper look in this video.
it needs a gated shifter. no idea what aston martin were thinking leaving the gear stick ball joint on display
Imagine dropping a coin or your coffee down there
By exposing the top of the shift mechanism, A-M are trying to do a Pagani, and in the process embarrass themselves. Then there’s the loose and sloppy linkage as experienced by Harry. The final insult: To keep this trans from failing they detuned the engine to produce 200 fewer torques.
To be consistent with this model’s retro exotic image, they shoehorned in the only manual trans they had. Like the econobox-era rectangular display atop the console, the ill-suited manual trans is an expedience for the manufacturer. Your paying £1.5M for this thing does not entitle you to special favors!
It just looks like a bit of trim is missing.
A tan leather shift boot would look excellent in my opinion.
The appeal one imagines is not what it is, but what it represents and if it helps continue AM's recovery, then that's fantastic and collectors can be proud of their contribution.
Man, this thing looks freakin huge on camera..don't know if it's the same in real life.
From a design perspective, I much prefer the Victor. It looks far more cohesive, and you would think Aston would have gone to the trouble of designing bespoke wheels for it instead of using leftover DBS rims!
Finally something worthwhile to watch on the weekend

“Gear shift sloppy when in gear, reverse almost slams into starter button”. For GBP 1.5 MILLION? I would be upset if it was like that in a $50k car. And let’s not kid ourselves, the inside looks cheap. If you had no idea what this was but just saw the interior, how much would you guess this car cost?
That within two weeks the production run was sold out indicates A-M knows what they are doing: monetizing the brand’s mystique in the cheapest way possible, a reflection of their contempt for this know-nothing generation of buyers. Like all builders of exotics in recent years, A-M was forced to swallow their pride and focus on ultra-premium models in order to maximize profits over the last few years ICE-powered models will be eligible for sale.

Oh my, that ancient Mercedes infotainment with the ugly scroll wheel should have no place in a £1M+ car...
Great video Harry, thanks for sharing.
I think it was Pagani that started the modern trend for exposed gear change mechanisms. Theirs is a thing of gem-like beauty, but this version seems little more than a place to get rubbish trapped and to gather fluff - all with no aesthetic benefit. And who are A-M kidding with those tacky race-number roundels? That's what likely lads stuck on their Minis in the 1960s - and it's no less childish 60 years on.
Getting back to round headlights - brilliant idea.
I notice that the image on the infotainment screen is that of the pre face lift Vantage, £1.5m for a car that should be no more than £400-450,000.

And an other argument why a manual gearbox is always where the real fun is.
Its such a joy to see new supercar with manual. Anyway, while its summer, please do video on Kawa KZ 1300. Honda video was so awesome.
I had the chance to drive another V12 with a manual GB..it was the F599 and I thought it was just incredibly pleasurable to go through those gears on a twisty countryside road...it just makes driving such cars pretty unforgettable...
Suspect the looks from the front would be significantly improved with some other spec' choices.
