    Jim, you are a kind soul, I can hear it in you voice. Helping your fellow man by sharing your knowledge is a special gift. And I agree with your "all things stop for coffee" attitude. I never considered the danger of cracking the plastic neck on the radiator & heater core, but now I will. Lastly. . . . . I better stock up on some Hi-Tech paper clips!

    Do you need to drain all of the coolant if you are just swapping out the switch and not the hoses?

    • @TWIRKNOLOVE
      @TWIRKNOLOVE 5 лет назад +1

      No. You don't need to drain the coolant. Just remove the hose on the thermostat side, replace the thermostat, and put the hose back on. Some coolant will spill and AIR is going to be introduced into the system which is not good so look up how to bleed the coolant system for this car for when you are done replacing the items.
      He should of mentioned that you should bleed the system because you're supposed to do it either way when doing this job whether you follow his instruction (draining the coolant) or mine.
      Air in the system (from not bleeding) will cause the engine to over heat if not done.

    I have a 98 Honda Civic and a few weeks ago it over heated. I noticed that the coolant in the over flow tank was boiling and the cap was off. Don't know if it was pressure from the engine. I'm not a mechanic so bare with me. I had the thermostat replaced about 3 months ago so it's fairly new. The car has 194000 miles. One other issue I've been having prior to the car overheating is that I don't have any heat in the cabin. Don't know if the heater core is no good or just clogged. Could the water pump or head gasket have anything to do with either of my issues. I did check the cooling fan and it turns on. Any advice as to what I can check next to fix over heating. I'm going to check hoses again. Thanks in advance.

  • @incrediblez394

    I just replaced top and bottom radiator hoses. I also got the radiator cap brand new. When the car first overhead a week ago. I found the bottom hose to be the culprit. Thus the reason I got new hoses. Thermostat got out in about 4 months ago and new water pump and timing belt done two weeks ago. I out antifreeze in run car and I touch the radiator cap but it doesn't feel hot when the car over heated. I found that weird. Also, that little vent over the radiator seems to release steam when the car overheats. Any ideas. Thanks in advance. I'm not much of a mechanic but trying to save money anyway I can.

    So I have a 96 civic thats overheating, well from what I understand it comes very close to overheating, the AC/heat don't work, and from what the previous owner said I should replace the head gasket. When I originally owned the car years ago it had an overheating issue and I ended up replacing the thermostat and a couple hoses. But when I tried to "burp" the cooling system like people told me to do after opening the system up, it wasn't burping right, it would spit coolant up while fluctuating RPM. I'm just wondering how I can diagnose what exactly the problem is, thermostat has been replaced, a couple hoses, and the relay to the cooling fan cause it was burnt out. I just don't want to end up spending a bunch of money replacing things that end up not fixing the problem. Would a bad head gasket cause overheating issues on this scale?

    • @Luovuus
      @Luovuus Год назад

      When head gasket fails, you will have seemingly disappearing coolant (no external leak) and a steady stream of white smoke from exhaust pipe when at operating temperature.

      Good question . You do need to have a thermostat in you car to regulate the flow of coolant. If you take it out and drive for a long time your car will over heat and at low temperature the car computer will not go into closed loop causing many other problems.

    I have a 2004 CRV and it overheats when stopped for a bit in traffic but once I start moving it cools back down. This only seems to happen when it's hot out. The air blows cold from the AC. It also cools down if I crank the heat up when it starts to overheat. Any help would be appreciated

    I am having this same problem, my 91 civic is overheating I just replaced the temp sensor, temp sending sensor, thermostat, and relay and It is still not turning on, if i take the fan and hook it straight up to the battery it comes right on. Do you think even though the coolant relay is new it can be bad? Thanks

    Jim, the problem ended up being the head gasket. Thankfully the head wasn't warped. Our Del Sol is back together now and running fine. Thank you for your time.

    Mechanics make a bad name for the whole industry by finding a problem, then changing 15 other parts with it because they might go bad some day in the future. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Best way to create a problem where none exists is by disturbing parts that are continuing to work just fine. Otherwise it was a decent job of partially troubleshooting, then making an educated guess.

      @@panthers559 I don’t get why that’s funny. I also don’t see what that has to do with what I wrote. Left and right are two different sides of the car.
      Also, you didn’t disclose to us any info about the condition of the other control arm.

    I have the same year honda civic i noticed that the gauge goes to the middle and im already stressing that something bad is happening to my honda. I had the water pump replaced and timing belt. I switched the hoses too and thermostat and coolant as well. Could this be of a bad radiator which i don't see leaks but notice the reservoir tank has powdery stuff by the end of the small hose to the radiator cap.

    Curious about my 1993 Honda Del Sol. Replaced the radiator, thermostat, both radiator hose (heater hoses replaced last year) the thermoswitch for the cooling fan as well a the ECM temperature switch. Car runs fine and stays in normal range yet fan still doesn't come on. Used a jumper wire to test fan, works fine that way. Worried the head gasket may be bad. Any input would be appreciated.

Seems to be bubbling in radiator which I thought was air pocket... bleed it many times. No leaks yet coolant get low and overflow tank is full. I think head gasket but not sure. Thank you.

    Hello sir, nice video.I have a '94 Civic eg 1.5 16v 90hp and i have a problem that i don't know how to solve it.First time the water was boiling in the expansion tank and the fan doesn't work.When i went at the mechanic, he said that the thermostat is blocked or something like this and i need to replace it and to replace the coolant temperature sensor too.I replaced the both pieces and now the fan still doesn't work.Another problem is the water is still boiling in the expansion tank even when i run with the electric fan on direct(works continuously). I hope that you can help me and sorry for my bad english, have a nice day sir !
