Much appreciation! I enjoyed your presentation! Semper Fi
I am too slowly replacing my old tools with WP tools.. I have to say though, you guys are the “APPLE” of tools as far as design and appearance goes.. Pretty and functional... :)
Outstanding! Semper Fi
Got mines today happy camper and American Made, so happy twice.
Man you guys are rich...beautiful squares...nice fesstool stuff to...heck of a shop...maybe one day Lord willing my shop will be just as impressive
Liked and subbed. Greetings from Scotland. 👍🏼
I own this tool and absolutely love it.
Awesome thank you!!👍🔴
Great presentation. 👍
Thank you! Jeff did a great job as always.
Hello,
First, I love the Woodpeckers Tool's. 😊 but in Germany all tool's form Woodpeckers sold out since a few month.
Thanks from Germany for the incredible Tools.
👍
Yes, Volker! So sad about that. I would like to have one too, but no chance in germany to buy them. Very nice tools 👌🏻
@@Bobby-lr2nw Interesting, there is a shop in Czech rep. that says they have it in stock. www.truhlarske-nastroje.cz/katalog/truhlarske-pripravky-a-vybaveni-dilen-10/meridla-a-znaceni-213/prilozny-uhelnik-woodpeckers-1281-delka-300-mm-profi-3952.html
I have the 1281 SE and the 1281SS, love them both
Glad to hear they have a home in your shop!
hello again from México city good tools and videos
Ordering now!! I love this one.
You won’t regret it.
@@BlackSwan912 I'm an idiot, I goofed up and ordered the METRIC one doh!!!!!! Now I gotta return it and lose the great savings on the deal of the week :(
@@lostinadream1866 I am truly sorry. You might try asking them if they would just do a swap. I've found them to be very "human" in their dealings.
WP hand tools are expensive but at the same time give the builder a huge return for their dollar. I am slowly replacing some of my measuring tools with WP products. I place Starrett/BCT/Blue Spruce and WP all in the same category. For my needs they are all interchangeable in fit finish and performance. You get what you pay for with these tools. Continued success Woodpecker and continued innovation
Thank you!
I have many woodpeckers layout tools but the king is the 1282 SS version. I always get SS versions I just like the thinner blades and tuffer mayerial
I love my 1281 square and use it in my tiny garage shop on every project. But I can't wait to get my basement cleaned out enough to move my work space indoors. Then I'll break out my precious 1281SE square where it will be much less likely to grow legs and wander off. It's not the usual Woodpeckers red, but it's gorgeous just the same.
I have the stainless steel version. It is accurate enough to calibrate some of my other tools.
Hope to see some inventory shipping to Canada soon. Be safe.
great video would love to have just cant afford it
Have it; love it; would buy it again; well worth the price; the bonus - Made in the USA.
Fantastic! Thank you!!👍🔴
With a blade that thick it would be really useful if the scribed lines ran down the side.
But that would probably make it a *bit* more expensive.
My thoughts exactly
I like the stainless blade version better, but there's an appeal to this one as well for sure. I'd blame the popularity at least in part on the many youtube woodworkers who have that red beauty.
Just received mine yesterday. Tested it, and it equals my Empire combination square, 1/32” off at 12”.
Contact customer service Monday morning. We'll repair or replace.
@@SharpToolsUSA I went online and submitted a request. I hope it is a “replace” and not a repair. I bought brand new and should get brand new that works. Repair is a repaired tool not new.
A call might be better.
@@WoodpeckersLLC I received an email, where they will ship me a new one, tested, and a return address label for the one I have. Thank you.
@@scottmorris4914 how's the replacement square?
Jeff, thanks again for another information "Deep Dive". I already have a 1281R on order with a few other goodies as well, and I’m trying to decide on either aluminum or S.S. for the 18x12 and 26x16. I too like the solidness of the aluminum, but with the thickness of the blade parallax on the markings is a concern for me. I don’t see that there is a version available with a tapered edge like you have on your T-Squares, is that right? If not, that would be a nice feature, especially for us older woodworkers. Thank, Chuck
No not a tapered edge. It would be nice like you said. But I too like the solidness of the red aluminum 1281 great for set up, checking square in projects, just plain nice to have around. The larger squares most people do not think they need the until they see them and handle them. The Woodworking Shows we used to participate in really showed off the larger precision squares. Folks got to see them and feel them. They are a great addition to the shop. I am thrilled we have the SS versions but I get what you are talking about a tapered edge.
Chuck, The thin blade of the SS squares is actually a better answer to the layout issue than beveling the edge, in my opinion. I know it means giving up the "set" wall-mounted case, but if I were you, I would get the 2616 in aluminum and the 1812 in stainless steel. You'll notice the 1812 is the stainless square that made it to my personal wall. When using the scale and the scribing guides, the 18 inch blade seems to be just the right size. The 2616 I use to set up my track saw station and to check the results of large panel cuts...both jobs where the thick blade really shines.
@Jeff Farris Thanks Jeff, that is exactly the type of feedback I was looking for. As much as I would like to have both the aluminum and SS sets, that is very impractical being I just do not have the room for that kind of indulgence, or the money for matter. I bought the MFT layout square, (on backorder) for squaring my track saw station, I think I will cancel the MFT layout square and replace it with the 2616, again my space is limited. Thanks again, Chuck.
Jeff, I couldn't bring myself to cancel the MFT layout square, so I bought it, the 1281, and the two squares you suggested, the 2616 in aluminum and the 1812 in stainless steel which are due on Thursday. But I did receive the 1281 today with the MFT layout square, and I just cannot get over how well the 1281 feels when it is set into, or onto a corner. The feedback is immediate and positive. I know I will be going back and forth between the 1281 and my Starrett 12” for a bit while I get used to it, and old habits are hard to break as well. But I think it’s going to be my go to setup square moving forward. Thanks for guidance Jeff, greatly appreciated, Chuck.
Hey, while you’re on a roll, any stock market advice??? 🤷♂️
@@toolchuck lol...Buy low and sell high.
Are there any purposes to the round hole and oblong hole in the central core along where the measurements are marked?
The oblong hole is a convenient place to hold the square when checking panels for square. The round hole can be used to hang the square on a peg.
I think its it's popular because of the red anodized finish.
Is the t-square holder behind you a custom build? If so, do you have plans available?
It is custom, but there's a new Rack-It very similar to what I've built. Check it out on the T-Square page on the web site. I'm working on a video for my personal site where I'm going to show my cleat system and how I make my holders.
Are these aluminum tools from Woodpeckers easily scratched or dented. If I accidentally bobble it and drop it will it be ruined?
If you drop it, it might get dented, but then so would a steel square. It should remain square. If it doesn't, we'll fix it or replace it.
Just the right size, if you use just the right sized drawer or frame...or piece of plywood. Still a very good tool.
👍👌🙏
I'll keep my Starrett.
whats shipping price to uk.thanks
Mark, email customer service (link on the main web page) with your address and they can get you a quote on international shipping.
I like this square. However, I wish the graduations along the blade would go 'around the corner' of the edge of the blade just slightly. With that thick of a blade (which is nice for other uses), it's too easy to make a measurement error when the surface you're marking is so far below the top of the blade.
Agreed that the thickness of the blade is less than desirable for layout work. Engraving around the corner is not practical. The opposite leg of the square would interfere with the head of the laser and calibration with the first scale would be tricky. The thin blades on our stainless steel core squares solve the problem plus add scribing guides.
This is why I got the SS version
great vid. but i want the square that you made in 2013 that was ONE piece aluminum for the entire unit. NOW THAT WAS A sqaure,
Wish they’d come with dual units
I live in europe and i think that woodpeckers sent there “that didn’t pass there quality control measurement on the anodizing color they try to achieve” my tools do not look so red and nice :-((
I, just got mine, but the cheeks that got with the stainless steel pins are not pressed all the way in, there’s a gap from the cheeks to the square.
Does anyone has experience this with the 1281 square?
Luis, contact customer service. That doesn't sound right.
@@WoodpeckersLLC thanks👍
UPDATE 5-28-2021 - USERS BEWARE! The inside and outside markings of the blade are NOT IN SYNC! I discovered this the hard way mid-project. They are out by 1/32" on one side, less on the other. The official Woodpecker response through Chris N was: That is not a defect in the tool. Each side of the blade is independent from the other side. The inside measurement references off of the aluminum cheeks of the tool and the outside references off of the sole/bottom of the blade and cheeks. All of our squares are like that.
Excellent!! Thank you!!👍🔴
Aluminum and stainless can be a very bad combination for corrosion in some circumstances. In this application, the small amount of stainless (cathode) in a much larger aluminum (anode) base should be fine, especially if it stays in the shop.
Thanks for the insight. In addition the aluminum is anodized and provides more protection to this minor issue.
@@WoodpeckersLLC Anodizing definitely helps, too - just wanted to bring it up in case others had the takeaway that stainless and aluminum are always a safe combination. 👍
I can’t get one in the UK grrrrrrr
Good tool but over price!😛😛
This certainly is a case of diminishing return.
Well if you don’t know why it’s the most popular, guess what? After watching this video either do I..
I think it's three things mainly; 1) the lip, 2) how solid it is (the thickness has never been useful in any way to me, quite the opposite, except the one thing, that it stays true, I trust it), 3) for a WP piece, it's sort of affordable. I would want it thinner. Or beveled like the T-600 and buy two, beveled each way. I want holes in it. It's not perfect, but it's sturdy and true, and practical.
Our stainless steel core models have the layout feature you're looking for (thin blade).
@@WoodpeckersLLC Thanks, I have been wanting one for a long time. Given the price though, I reach for an Incra ruler or the TS-600 when the 1281 isn’t suitable. Both have holes, and thinner edges.
@@DanielNilssonSe That's my personal approach, too. I don't reach for an all aluminum square when I'm doing layout. I reach for them for reference.
One consideration for the thicker width... it is great to stand up inside of say a cabinet carcass when checking or marking shelves for square. I just built a kitchen island and built it on its back on my bench and even though I Domino'ed everything, I absolutely used the 1281 for layout to make sure things were marked square before I cut mortises. You can see it here if you want a visual. instagram.com/p/CJwdSZFl_pE/? BTW, I did all Dominos on tight setting except 4. If you mark everything out accurately, it goes together... ehh... pretty close to accurate :)
Good squares but they are not available in Europe for months, good does not help if you don’t have it.
Perfect for checking square, for Lay-out the blade is to thick, to many options for errors.
well, they sold me, and I ordered one, only to find out that it may not be available and shipped until June. that is disheartening.
so having my "actual" address isn't good enough to receive a catalog.. you need to harass me with emails too? really?
Order the catalog, then opt out on the emails. You'll still get the catalog. We never want to send an email to someone that doesn't want it.
Can't afford it, too expensive for DIY person like myself
Yeah but who can afford y’all’s tools? I can but I just won’t allow myself to purchase them.
Think of like this: they're lifetime tools. You buy them once and you're done. Think about how much we spend on things on a daily basis without giving it a second thought: takeout food, morning coffee, etc. I'd happily give up things like that for a week or so to have some really nice tools to work with.
So to pretty much anyone who says "they can't afford it", I'm telling you you can! You just have to choose to afford it and shift spending habits a bit.
@NW if it was a money making thing for me then I agree. For me, as a hobbyist, I can’t justify the prices. Maybe once all the kids are off my payroll though.....
What’s with the stupid music?
Overpriced
What’s this? A cheap bastard in the comments?
Just like a Harley Davidson, way overpriced. You can keep it woodpeckers. I'll use something else.
