    After I'm done crying in the corner (because I thought the meta description mattered and even ECHOED that in some of my videos) I'll give your video a thumbs up (already did) I sell digital downloads so I played around with this a bit. Google is pulling from descriptions, titles, and - you guessed it- wherever the hell they want. I did some page inspections on results and it's all over the place. So you hit the nail on the head. Doesn't really matter much at all. Thank you again for the killer info. You help me grow every day and challenge what I always thought was status quo so I appreciate you!!

    I also noticed that on Google, under some Etsy market pages it will show thumbnail product photos from Etsy shops, but when you click on a specific photo it won't directly take you that listing. It will still take you to that marketplace page on Etsy. Also the photos aren't even the first 5 ranking on the market page so if you're looking for that product that you saw on the google search you'd have to scroll down the pages to find it

      Right, it's not the listing that Etsy wants you to go to, it's the page itself. That little picture is a lure to get you there.

    Interestingly enough.....I did a private window search for the second top search term for my shop "mission style art". And.....yep there were a slew of market pages for that and related terms as results AND....the ONLY etsy items that actually came up inside of three pages were listings that had "mission style art" in the TITLE. No other listings popped up - just the market pages and those listings. (I generally put that term in the tags only).

      And if you went to page 3 you went farther than 99% of people who search on google!

      @@KaraBuntin but I found it interesting that it was only the TITLE that would ping a result....tags played no part whatsoever.

    Hi Kara what happens when you filter the search for ‘shopping’ instead of ‘all’?

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  3 года назад +1

      That shows shopping listings, which are usually a row of ads then a bunch of organic listings. Those may or may not include a lot of Etsy listings depending on how the search is phrased, but from what I've seen those seem to be mostly taken from the titles. Google shopping listings come from a feed that websites submit to Google, Google doesn't go looking for them. Etsy probably has the entire site on a product feed and that gets pulled into Google Shopping, then Google sorts it out from there.
      For Google ads, Etsy makes the decision of what to show based on their own data and Google ads data.

      @KaraBuntin  3 года назад

      I love it, it’s not that tricky, really. There are a lot of ways to weasel into the first page of google search.

  • @whiskyo

    What do you think about making sure the beginning of your listing title must be different from all your other listings because you’ll be competing with yourself?

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  3 года назад +1

      That doesn't apply unless you're talking about having listings on website and on Etsy. Other than that, the search engine will look at a lot more than just the first part of your listings to decide what to show.

      Not much, but it does change by browser. It's not enough that I worry about it, Google tends to change things more for local results more than anything else.

      Considering I don't know who Nancy is, no. This was a question from someone in my Facebook group, they were saying that people say to optimize listings for Google, and wanted to know if it was true or not.

      I'm talking about organic search results, so not necessarily. I don't pay for Google ads and my website beat out Amazon and Etsy this morning for a specific keyword I've been working on so I'm feeling superior about that.
