Raw, intense, powerful and original. This has got to be one of the best short films for me by far. I especially applaud Wong Fu for giving a voice to the deeper rooted struggles, and sacrifices that immigrants, and in this case what a lot of new Asian-Americans and Mexicans go through; whether it be finances, mental health, family issues, or finding one's place in the strange new land. Stories like these, turned into art gives people a different perspective on how things are often on the inside of these minority families, honours them and gives others an opportunity to see them through their experiences in our daily lives. Which hopefully, builds more empathy and harmony between us.
Thank you for explaining this, I found it hard to find the message in the film but I get it now.
@@ShaneGentles Glad to be of service
Stories like this are a much better portrayal of Asian Americans than Crazy Rich Asians which just perpetuates the notion that Asian people all care about is making money and living a materialistic lifestyle. Stories about deep rooted struggles growing up in America with high expectations, figuring out your identity and growing up with a lot of pressure placed on you is the real Asian American story. Not some outlandish fairytale that is Crazy Rich Asians.
The film depicts the many lives of minorities/POC living in this supposedly first world country. It really is a struggle to try to buy a house here or to make something of yourself. Thank you Angela for the rawness of your story-telling.
Damn, Dylan's grown. I remember seeing him in Everything Before Us. He was just a kid back then.
His name is Brandon soo hoo, prince of the fire nation and rightful heir to the throne.
Y'all remember him from Tropic Thunder?
Have y'all seen him in community though?
@@supermachonacho5975 that ain't zuko bruh
@@meeohchannn *I was mind blown when I first found out. lol.*
This made me cry. As much as I love crazy rich asians, growing up poor it's hard to relate to the lavish lifestyle
Everything from story, to authenticity, to cinematography, to production design and character development in such a short amount of time. This could easily have been a great feature that we would have love to watch. Thank you for highlighting and giving this short film a platform!
Much love from a young creative group from Norway🇳🇴
I slightly cried... the last statement. “Sometimes dreams should just stay a dream”. Even though we work hard... even though things dont go well... i dont think i believe it should not be that way... and was reminded even tho I and my sister have a roof to stay ... we are still searching for home
Wow, I was invested in the story. The cinematography/ videography (?) was REALLY well done. It felt like an snippet of a movie... And then to know that it was someone's true story, her story, makes it even more heartbreaking. Don't judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Someone looks put together but you don't know the burden they bare.
You know the actors are excellent, both the siblings and the assailant, when you felt that fear in the car.
I am so sorry for Angela and everyone else who has been in that situation.
For the love of God can someone PLEASE cast Brandon as Zuko in the Live Action Airbender Movie please 🙏🏻
I’m literally obsessed with him and Dianne 😍 exceptionally talented actors, even more so when working together ❤️
I remember seeing him on a show called pen15 and thought the same thing he sounds just like zuko
I had the same frickin thought then I read your comment
Oh my god, yessss!!!
Exactly my thoughts to! Antoine Bandelle been saying this for a fat minute. Brandon SooHoo for Zuko!!
This is the most raw story I've ever seen put out on YT
This short film is so well done 🥺 I was hooked from the very beginning. And the fact that it’s so personal to the director makes it even more meaningful
omg shes the actress that played mei lin from the show Warriror O.O
YESSS someone who knows warrior!!
Also it’s Mai ling* !! Unless u watch it in a different language than English maybe it’s different hm
@@jasminemai9360 ahh shit I spelled it wrong 😂
Reason why I clicked this video!!
Petition for warrior season 3! SIGN IT. THERES NO WAY HBO DOESNT PICK IT UP
speechless. This is a story that needed to be told
I am so incredibly moved by this film. It is now my favorite of the Wong Fu Productions supported releases. Angelina Chen, your story is beautiful and so delicately and earnestly told. Thank you for your gift, and for making this. Your personal investment in this story isn’t for naught; we see you, and we validate you
this is intense. I'm feeling so many emotions I can't describe right now - only feeling grateful for what I have right now.
This was such a great film with potential that could be an HBO series
This is much more relatable than Crazy Rich Asians.
I Kept thinking that!
People in general needs to stop thinking that life in America is like a disney movie. That's the main reason why a lot foreigners want to move to America for a "better life" because of what the media taught them.

They need to make movie CRAZY POOR ASIANS
beautiful. raw. real.. these are the stories that need to be at the forefront. the struggles of growing up as a first generation immigrant trying to find our path in a society that our families once idealized. the subtle emphasis of social and economic hierarchies felt so real and authentic, similar to the way they touched these themes in the movie Parasite. definitely one of my favorite short films I've watched
As an asian not living in my home country this has been relatable. And i’m missing my family back home
Brandon is such an amazing actor and he’s so fine lol
my heart is in this short film. and it hurts so much.
Props to Angela for being vulnerable and open about the film.
Really appreciate how Wong Fu continuously uplifts and provides a platform for other Asian American filmmakers!! Wouldn't have found this gem otherwise
This looking like a professional movie!
the music of this short is amazing! it fit so perfectly with the story!
I cried over a short film while feeling inspired...What a good Freaking film! No doubt! Hit in the feel
*Very relatable.* Thanks for sharing this film. For me this was about the strains of the international cultures mixing and the effects of such relationships when placed under the pressures of financial hardship. I am from Texas and live in Thailand, while my son struggles with making a living back in Texas. I'm always planning and saving for my son and grandson to come visit and enjoy some of the benefits of living in Thailand. I live very frugal here to some day see that goal reached. I pray each day that he won't succumb to all the pressures or find himself involved in someone else's drama or create one of his own. "Our Home Here" presents a racially segmented society, with all our current woes; One girl f'ing for her job, a white guy going crazy thinking he's loosing his promised life thrashing out at others, and the main characters... the Hispanic woman frugal as she can be, trying to keep her humanity in the face of a world exploiting itself, and the main Asian couple... she abiding through life, while he, trying to be the man, be the leader, be the super hero, trying to gain power within his current powerless life while also totally loosing his battle with young man testosterone overload. The film climaxes with the testosterone overload fight between the two combatants, in combat over and for nothing, while the two females continue to abide in their world where family values are only memories, hopelessly devoid of fertile ground from which to grow from. Thx for the film!
They're not a couple...they're siblings.
@@christinehoang1031 WOW, THAT'S A MIND BLOWER! I saw the flashback scenes, but never made that connection. I'm guessing that's a cultural thing, as being born "a white guy in Texas", I can't think of any two siblings who lived together after high school, and I'm assuming this takes place after high school. Currently living in Thailand, I have very much noticed that close (really close) family ties are the norm here, which such a sibling living situation as in the film are not the norm, but are quite common. So I guess depending on being culturally aware of the multi cultural differences, the viewer sees what they've been trained to see through their cultural upbringing. This is one of those fascinating things about film making, is that the creator often can exchange perspectives, thus adding depth, as all films are sort of a teacher/student relationship between them. Some of my western friends here in Thailand don't care for the "bing-boing" moments within Thai-comedy, until they think back to "The Three Stooges", just as is within the film, such sibling values could be found in the 1930-40s in the USA. That being said, the film shouts such "old culture value relationship" as being impossible to achieve progress with, within a world of financial hardships and the pressures of multiculturalism evolution. All of the characters are dealing with old things that don't fit anymore nor serve their purposes well. The two young men are a group to their own, as both seem to be dealing with the lose of their male dominance. The females survive in this, yet not well, though clinging to the cultural ways of the past. I didn't catch that they were siblings, but maybe that's the only reason they could stay together. My western cultured eyes just didn't see it. Now that I'm an old man (in my 60s), I can point to testosterone as being the #1 reason for all conflicts and failures, because that's what it brings, either winning or failure, with no in-between outcome to it. The females within the film all show "survival" as their anthem, from the lady who chooses to screw her boss (a guy that has something meets a girl who wants something which is survival), to the older lady and the young Asian lady, just coping which is survival. There's themes here which go beyond cultures, as well as the differences within the ways they are coping with life through their learned cultural behavior. One of the elements within the film I found ironic, was that the young Asian man was thinking of joining the Armed Services, and it's those same bloated, over funded and misused Armed Services, which are causing all the financial hardships, sucking the life out of those they tout themselves as being the hero protectors of. The stage being the hidden actor in all this, the Armed Services are the magnet of misery which makes the film's stage what it is, and that's the "solution" that the young Asian man first mentions, 'the creators of violence". In the end of the film, he achieves his own outlet creating misery, yet that was the desire all along. He was looking for a male dominated world, a world where 3 meals a day would replace the need to take his sister's food and the need for his sister's shared apartment through living in a barracks. The film also bring up the question of "are the Armed Services joined from patriotism?" This was not the motive in the young man's mind. The young man wanted to join the devil in the world, the devil that made the world what it is in his world. "If you can't beat them join them" seems his sentiment. Anyway... *thanks for the film!* very deep and very thought provoking. Thank you Christine Hoang!
@@sotalife6230 umm.. were you high on meth or what they call, “yaba” in thailand, when writing your comments? you literally wrote an essay replying to a single-sentence comment, lol.
BRANDON!! Your acting is AMAZING once again!! Go give yourself an Academy Award!!!
Wow. Dylan may have his problems, but he did everything right. 😔
This was truly a beautiful piece of art. Shining light on so much perspective. The Director did an amazing job and the courage to share such a powerful story. My heart ❤
Thank you for sharing this story. It is so painful to watch and know that people are living this out every day. We all dream of a better life, and lives can shatter in an instant. I hope you, your brother and mother find joy and peace. You have made an amazing glimpse into your experience. Thank you.
I Loved the story its authentic, its raw, i can feel every emotions from the actors ... It actually made me just PAUSE for a minute...
same it was so intense I had to stop for a minute .... too much emotions
Brandon killed it on this short film. Love seeing him on WongFu and JustKiddingFilms!
Good video and powerful content for sure.
My goodness!!! I have to always remind myself they're just acting. Wong-Fu 4ever !! The depth and intensity ... I appreciate the dedication, the artwork and sharing the story!
-- Great job guys (oof, need to catch my breath)
best short film on wong fu by far!! the actors and everything from the plot is amazing.
Angela Chen...beautiful story and production....plus hearing you share your inspiration behind the story makes your life on a screen...heart warming and inspiring
RUclips for some reason keeps messing up my comments so 3rd time trying to say and type out that this is AN AMAZING FILM!! Best video I've seen today! Everything was amazing. The writing was clear and it was so emotional. As a first generation asian american that grew up in poverty in a low income violent environment -this hit close to home. Watching your parents struggle and seeing people with privilege just pass by while you're doing the same thing without ever having the ability to move up. Thank you for sharing this short film.
Couldnt drop my chopsticks fast enough to click on this
Thank you for sharing your story on this awesome short film.
I can't make a movie. I thought of writing a book, but my story is so painful as well that I always give up.
I needed that interview at the end. Thank you Angela And WF.
This was so raw and beautiful. So much emotion too. Wow hope Angela get to create a full film like this one day! Would love to see it
Checking back in for the first time since I was 15 now 25… Film making has stepped up levels well done wongfu
Thank you so much for your film, Angela
Thank you for sharing this with us, WongFu
And thank you to the cast and everyone who worked on this film for delivering such a raw, powerful performance ; ~ ;
i'm feeling all the feelings, this is truly amazing
Such a great film! The control of the emotions she brought into this film is killer! Keep up the good work!
Just incredible dark and touching. Just an amazing work in this short film. Very powerful & personal
This is so relatable. To me, this spoke about mental health and financial strains. The problems that arise, then causing more problems. The brother lashed out initially trying to protect, but then the cops came. That is never a comfortable situation to be in. It is especially hard to get out of or get help. Thank you for sharing this story.
Truly inspiring, raw, authentic story. I appreciate your openness in sharing a story so incredibly personal to you. It was such a nice change from seeing these picture perfect stories to something intense and real. Because life is made up of a series of ups and downs and it’s not always pretty. You definitely touched my heart, Angela.
This Wong Fu Presents is giving me Issa Rae Presents vibes and I'm here for it
So many levels accomplished to weave a personal journey and a mirror a jarring reality of society.
The personal stories are the best ones. Amazing short!
This is a beautiful and raw captured film. I think this captures a lot of the real challenges of the migrant experience that many people go through and usually don't have a choice to go through. I feel as though this is a great commentary on recent social events in society. However, I reckon that lady in the drama should've just invested in stock. Or honestly... there should be more support from government or through charities that empower people and help people. In Australia, there are lots of social welfare programs that help and support people and the government is generous to back and support people in need... but then again every societal model is different, population and ideologies are all different.
I see Brandon and immediately think Zuko... and he ain’t Dante
Brilliant, heartbreaking and powerful. I got so accustomed to the tender, sometimes bittersweet stories of Wong Fu, but this was a breathtakingly raw display of emotion. There are so many stories like this that need to be seen and heard. Thank you for this tiny masterpiece.
wow what a intense yet very relatable experience unfortunately. thank you for highlighting so many issues such as socioeconomic, racial, superiority etc. these videos need to be shared in order to impact many people. thank you
She played Kora from Agents of Shield!! Amazing
You guys are consistently doing quality work. It shows in your final product, every time.
Thank you for the great entertainment, much appreciated!
Keep up the great work, please-
This is absolutely amazing! The acting and the plot was very well done! And the music adds so much emotion to each scene!
BEST VIDEO I'VE SEEN FROM YOU GUYS! FELT THE EMOTIONS FROM THE SHOTS, BGM, ACTING! ❤️❤️❤️ DEEP AND IMPACTFUL
Hits home. Take my money when y’all make a movie. This is simple, but simple is more.
Man... Yesterday watched Assassins by Liberty in North Korea, and today watched this... It's been an eye opening weekend. Aside from donation and social media, what can we realistically do to make a difference for the lower class?
Incredible acting and story. Wong Fu, if you guys ever need music, I got you.

Just what people needed during tough times with Covid, people losing jobs, losing their businesses, and deaths. Such and uplifting short film!!! The timing of this flick couldn't be better!!

Wow!!!! This is freakin high level. Emotional Rollercoaster and the acting!!!!
This short is probably the best l have seen in comparison to their usual Yappie-like shorts. Would pay to watch an entire season of this on Netflix if it’s available. Please make more!

i was literally just binging old wongfu vids at 3 am today
this was so incredibly moving!! Thank you so much for sharing this art with us 💛💛
Haven't been on here in ages, need to catch up on your work!
This is such a powerful piece, you can see such pure intentions in the flawed characters, and it crafts this deep resonance of humanity in them. Even more, the lived in experience from Angela, the director, imbue this piece with so much more personal meaning. I must say this is a timeless piece to be watched over and over again.
Wow. Thank you. Thank you for the rawness and sharing this story.
Perfect. Genuinely perfect.
I got chills all over my body tho, this is just too good!!
Raw and emotional film...best of luck in the future!
