I love how this shows that no matter what difference you may have; theres always someone out there with a very similar experience. Love yourself for who you are and not for who you think you are 😊
As a short filmmaker, this is the kind of story and quality that I appreciate.
the comments are really lofi for a decent production like this.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Seriously
It's youtube, what did you expect?
Yes! Disapointing...
probably ppl who just never been there ...
Wow, this was just beautiful! I figured all their quirks stemmed from those old sayings, eat a seed and it'll grow out your ears etc. Really amazing. I love how you could just tell Aaron was smiling at the end even though his mouth was forced into that shape his eyes said it all. This would make an epic series. Absolutely fabulous work!
Edit: Had to watch it twice!
A true friend it doesn't care what it looks like.
I don't think the message here is about physical deformities but being odd in general. As an odd person myself I can relate. I wish I could transform in to an ordinary person overnight and blend in the world without getting noticed but it's impossible unless I cover myself in a big shopper bag or something. It's so sad that everyone can freely go out and enjoy while I am denied my right to do so.
When he said 😬
I felt that..
I was on board until the last couple seconds. I feel like the whole mouth thing can obviously relate to anyone's insecurities, mental health states, or what they might consider to be imperfections. But instead of finding it within himself to fight it, it took an external factor, in this case a girl with the exact same "imperfection" giving him some attention, to make him feel better. I really enjoyed watching it, but I feel the message was a missed opportunity for people that really feel that way.
Sean it could be interpreted as no matter how you feel, you’re not alone? There’s someone else who knows exactly how you feel?
Chad Worthman Yeah that’s a nice way of looking at it. I suppose I don’t like the idea of needing to find someone with the same problem as you to feel better, as I believe we can do that without relying on others. I do like your perspective though :-)
@@sean8306 We are social beings. I think it matters (i.e. if one knows s/he not the only one being gay, or being left-handed, or any other characteristic which is not so common), it can be inspiring because it serves as a reference: we don't want to be alone. We want to belong to some groups and that characteristic becomes a sign of identity.
Also I don't like the idea of "not needing someone to solve a problem" very much: that's individualism (related to neoliberalism) and it's not true: sooner or later we'll need someone else (i.e. I need a doctor if I get sick, I need a teacher to teach me things, etc). That's why we're hardwired to belong to a society and it's why we've thrived as a species.
My interpretation was like that of Chad.
I'm curious. Did any of you three recognise the theme of the movie.. that the characters were all victims of of childhood tales - the girl with the big nose told lies which made her nose grow long.. etc? If you didn't it will be worth another look. I didn't 'get it' till half way into the therapy scene and even then a second viewing revealed lots of funny nuances throughout.

Should've had someone with square eyes from sitting too close to the TV.
jim jimjim I thought about that too! Thought that was what the blind guy was at first!
You know what we did speak about having a character in there with square eyes as its such a classic one. The thing is we wanted to do everything in-camera with no CGI. Which meant we just couldn’t think of an elegant solution to execute square eyes with this approach sadly. Will have to save that one for next time;)

The same worms that eat me will someday eat you too
When I was about six years old, my mom and I were waiting for the bus. It was pretty late and already dark. Then an old lady came along, walked straight up to me and asked me if I wasn't afraid of the boogeyman coming to get me. My mom got so furious and angry, asking her why on earth she was so keen on scaring me for no reason at all - and vividly told her to get lost. I still love here for that moment (and of course for a gazillion other reasons). Therefore I never was, and never will be afraid of the dark, or of spiders, or of dentists, etc... - cautionary tales are for envious and lazy grown ups who've forgotten how it was to be a child and sadly are only capable of patronizing - Thank you for that story. My mom just would have loved to see this. ♥

I agree with you 100%, but I am scared to death of the dentist 😂
I laughed WAY too hard when I realized why the blind guy was stroking the stick 🤣

His wrist was wrapped too, which means he fatigued it way too much.
I like how the artists don't mind helping us out of the dark and giving us a clear picture of the concept in the film. I'm not too familiar with all these children's tales and got that they probably all personified one tale but didn't quite understand how. Then the credits rolled. Terrific!
Yeah the penny dropped when the blind guy was talking-but I do like how they explained it fully at the end. Sometimes short films leave me a bit non plussed, much like art and scultures do. I appreciate the beauty but I hate not understanding the story behind them.
although the parents don't tell these "superstitions" to their children here in my country, I could understand thanks to the credits
:D
I still don't really get the crusts one.
I remember all these from when I was a child. This short is on my top 10. It's perfect. When she walked in the room, I got chills and a smile from ear-to-ear and a tear in my eye. Its got everything.
i don't understand the crust one, at all
EDIT I discovered shortly after posting my comment, that British children were told not to eat crusts because they'd be afflicted with curly hair (surprised they also didn't say "and your skin will darken" 🤣). Most us North Americans were forced to eat our crusts, and curly hair was a desirable trait so that's why we're so confused.
Old wives tale says that if you eat your crusts you’ll get curly hair.
it used to be a thing to not eat crust, it was crude and improper. The kitchen help or your mom would cut the crusts off as part of their duty to family so they looked like they were proper. Curly hair was also seen as undesirable, so you put the two together and you behave horribly and eat the crust you get cursed with curly hair.
Ben Cotterill in that case ill only eat crusts from now on!!
The funny thing is i thought "what could the ole wives tale about crusts be-- also that man's hair is positively gorgeous." Totally surprised that's the "curse" lmao.... I feel like there's some racism or at least xenophobia in that one, but idk really... Just an American's guess.
@@tarynestrada3760 Its more English than anything, and it was xenophobic, curly hair was associated with Irish and Scottish. Sandwiches served with tea usually have the crust cut off still. .
:"If you keep pulling those faces one day the wind will change and you'll stay like it" ..... I swear my nan used to say that !
The same in France with crossing eyes 😂
Yet here in the States the saying is; " if you're making that funny face and someone slaps you on the back it'll stay that way!"

Thanks Bruce, the credits were the last thing we added to the film, we wanted to help wrap up the 'Tales' just in case people didn't quite get them. So its great to hear they are going down well :)
It really helped. For example the woman with the tree. I thought she got into a car accident and smashed into a tree. The credits (which btw are illustrated very well) helped immensely. It's interesting how different people read different things into words. I did a customer care course once that showed how 80% (I'm still a little dubious about that percentage) of a verbal conversation is not about the words - it's about the body language, tone, volume, pause, what you don't say, emphasis etc. That's why sarcasm (some call that irony) doesn't work (unless you know the person) on the internet. RUclips has changed over the years, and it now only rewards "Influencers" who mindlessly post videos every day, and ignores the creatives who take weeks (even months) to create a single piece of art.
The cinematography was amazing, well-acted, well-scripted, the music and score choice are perfect, editing was smooth, I wish it was longer. It really felt like watching an A24 film
Exceptional. That slow, methodical pacing was so confidently delivered, first class.
The ending reminded me how single I am
Lovely! A bit mystifying to this American who was unfamiliar with most of those old wives / cautionary tales, though. Strangely unkind of the group leader to ask the tree woman if there were any pips in the apple pie she brought. Did anyone else notice the small bulge in the group leader’s shirt? Abdomen area? Wasn’t sure if the shirt got weirdly stretched out or if she had an oddity like the other folks in the group.

@@kalashnikovkhodorkovsky8153 Not sure what John said that triggered you so much. Maybe you should get some help dude
2:42 on the right side... Was that done on purpose? #Pause
i believe so to give off the subtle hint that the guy went blind because he touched himself too much lol
Trash Insecure he went blind for touching himself? I thought he couldn’t stop touching himself thus the clip
yes
😆😆😆
Sometimes it just needs 8 minutes to put some magic into your heart. Thank YOU! ❤️
The last letters to disappear at the beginning title were “us” pretty cool.
Letters dude
That’s a nice touch, i didn’t notice.
Alphabets? That’s fkn legendary
personally, I *do* like, "alphabets."👍and are you a polyglot or something..because don't be so mean, don't be a such a *snob.* 🙄 just because he's not an English language scholar..at least he knows how to communicate his thoughts in a language that you KNOW isn't his first/native tongue..I, for one, *applaude* him.👏👏😀👩🏾🏫
01 02 no one was actually particularly rude...
Egotistical actors: I hate acting around prosthetics people don't recognize me and it takes so much effort
These actors: let's put emotion into the parts of our faces we can easily control and tell a great story about finding support
I feel this beautiful art work, I’m born with a facial deformity so I understand his pain. Love the ending made me smile 😊

In my comment I called it a piece of art also ❤️
I was scalded with hot water at 13 months old. So I’ve scars from the waste down. I used to hide them. Yuh know...pants,long skirts and dresses, etc. But then in middle school I met a girl with scars from hot water from her chin and down her front. We became friends and she really changed my whole outlook on life. She was and is still one of my heroes that taught me that it doesn’t matter what we look like on the outside...not to the people that count anyway. 🥰
Be well... and don’t Ever let anyone take your joy!

Google This 😊🥰, that’s right! It’s all about how we treat each other.
Pfft. Cheesy, lacking in depth and using pop-relatability: I almost didn't cry at all.
almost
Its always a struggle until youve found yourself in someone else
Just adopt a dog and alleviate all the BS.
I love both of these comments
There is some great, subtle acting in this. Simple things, like how he enters the room and half-backs away. I really enjoyed this clever piece.
Wow. Every now and again I come across a true little gem. This is surely one...a short story that leaves you wanting so much more and yet there is nothing left to be said. Beautiful. I wish I could make shorts like this.
I don't get the crust one, I was always told to eat my crust, so clearly this is a cultural difference. What is the crust bit about?
Stephen Hanna There is an old wives tale that says if you eat the crust, your hair will go curly. ‘If you eat the crusts your hair will go curly!’ is something I was told (not sure by who) a few times as a child. But I never understood as to why I shouldn’t eat the crust-because there’s nothing wrong with curly hair at all!
Watch the credits. It shows you each one.
It was something that's a fallback to when curly hair was considered especially handsome, so it was on old wives tale to encourage kids to eat their crusts.
@@antonydyatlov5651 oooooooh
The song is about things happening in our lives that changed us, and how vulnerable we were as children, never imagining we could become a different person from life’s events. I wonder if the video is a metaphor for that too, though cautionary tales are used as the metaphor.
At the beginning of this I thought, “He’d better not just meet a woman with the same problem.” ...........
''Quit making that face or one day it will stay like that.'' [Mothers everywhere.]
This was beautiful. Some short films are very cliche. This was genuine and refreshing.
joking right?
loved it. made me smiled at the end. i can know how love at first sight feels
