“Trading time for money” …feeling that constantly.
As of right now, I don't mind it. I have more time than money. However, you suppose to be flexible with life. Until, I grow tired of it, and at the point where I find my time more valuable than money then I will change. You don't have to keep the same job forever. I actually recommend to try different things. Life would be too boring is you stationary
@@mr.q337 I agree with that mindset, wholeheartedly. To remain in one place for too long, knowing that there is more to the horizon than what you know, is just not the life MOST people would want. That's why we choose to adapt to new surroundings because there is more out there than what we realize.
Literally every job... even youtube
If you make use of that money in a way that's fulfilling. All for it!
@@thewesleychan True, of what I've earned, I've given back to those who've supported me on my current path. It's mainly finding a good work-life balance to figure out what it is I'm looking for.
That bilingual conversation with his mom hit me on a deeper level. Just switching between enlish and your native language sometimes in full sentences, sometimes in a couple words is so relateable.
Golgiapparatus2 is it Chinese?
@@baotrannguyen9643 It sounded like Mandarin to me, but I myself am Vietnamese
Golgiapparatus2 it’s Cantonese
@@pxradoxy14 I guess that makes sense since Wes wrote this and he speaks Cantonese
It be like that sometimes.
This is why I subscribed to WongFu, thank you for constantly creating content. When I first subscribed it was for the romantic shorts and those resonated with me but as I've matured and began working, this short spoke to me on a deeper level, a greater purpose. I'm so grateful to have stumbled across content creators like you guys many many years ago.
Growing with new perspectives. Thanks for sticking with us.
Wesley Chan Thank you for having us on the journey. Will always be here! #wongfuforever
Just wanted to say I like your youtube name 😂

nice guys don't finish last!!
Wong Fu Productions Dis is the first thing dat came to my mind, wen i heard the news...
Plot twist: he's the CEO of the company and that all was part of the interview. And he finally decided to hire her.
This ending is way better I’ll pretend that this happened; because nobody would invite their Uber driver (stranger) to a grocery store and back to their place
Having worked at a number of consulting firms, the person looking consistent day to day is not the right person.
i was kind of thinking the same thing
@@first2summit what do u mean?
WongFu needs to hire you for their story team lol
Dat Westhetic 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
And so proud of my mama for her Cantonese voiceover debut. And since she played Phil’s mom in Yappie, that means Nathan = Phil’s brother and he’s having his own Yappie crisis in Toronto 🤯🤣
That's some good talent 😁
WongFuverse has begun!

Spadina, Streetcar, Kensington market... peacefull Toronto
It’s actually a set of Toronto. That’s where they shoot scenes that take place in New York
Wes’s eye is just something special. I actually love that each team member has unique way of telling stories. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Me too. Thanks!
"Tired of always being tired". Story of my life. I'm going to take a nap now.
Different paths but a shared outlook toward their own futures.

Thanks for nailing it 😄
Damn homeboy had a car and made Julie walk from the distillery district to Kensington market and then back down to Union LOL
And in a cold Autumn Day too!

Weeird how these wong fu vids always relate to my current situation when they release
iykyk
This was my life in my late 20s
Im literally thinkin the same right now!
Yeah, I literally quit a six figure job to work for a local church and family shelter.
Gives me hope...others may have needed my old job more than me and I’m just looking for fun Christian asian chick to marry and make RUclips videos with. 😂
So weird! Same here... Quit big corporate for my own path
also Julie Zhan is the goddess of soothing the soul with any character she plays, she's phenomenal
Julie is a superstar. Did you catch her Mom's voice in the bi-lingual conversation?
She good.
i need more zhan in my life
"you need the day to day freedom and i'm okay sacrificing that for where im going" - something i finally reconciled with this last year.
everyone is growing and traversing through their life in their own way. it's a really beautiful sentiment.
Yup
thank you for putting in the voice of young asian women.
Gotchu.
Wesley Chan ayyyy
this short is so relatable and the fact that this short was filmed in my hometown Toronto makes me super emotional
Loved the short but low-key got confused when she suddenly stood up and walked hahaha. Good job!
They really captured the charm of Toronto in such a short video. Super impressed by how they highlighted some of the most beloved spots with the limited time they had to shoot this.
Glad we did TO good!
When you just walk out a conversation and just meditate in a middle of a hallway
Relatable
I like how they were both just ready to hangout with each other, just after one ride together. I don't know why I'm so scared to ask people to hangout with me.
So cool seeing this filmed in Toronto!!! :D
2:25 "you couldve just walked"
LOL YEAH RIGHT, The drive from the Pearson airport in Mississauga to downtown Toronto is like 30 mins on a good day with normal traffic
As always, Wes’s cinematography is on point.
Man, this video is really relatable to me because I'm going through interviews and applications and just feel like I don't know anything. I don't know where life is headed. I don't even know if I can find a job. And even if I do, I question if working in an office is what I want to for the rest of my life. It just seems there's no point to any of this. What happens when we have the car we want and the house we want? What then?
relatable. same here, good luck on your prospects!
Try getting deep into forex trading, financially free yourself, then make whatever you want of your life all you need is 1, 2 months of studying. 2-3k and the will to learn everday. One of the easiest and legal ways to make money all from your phone. Don't give up buddy!
Looks like you need to find your purpose in life. Following that you will be happy, no matter what happens. Go look into personal development. There is loads of stuff, even on RUclips. I personally don't like Tony Robbins because what he does is too superficial to me, but he might be a good starting point for you. Good luck :)
So funny you say this, 10 years ago I had the same questions. Now after achieving the car, the multiple houses, I am still just as lost as I was before the journey began. With no one to share it with and losing all sense of purpose along the way, I really wonder if it was worth it at all. It feels like I've hit max level in an mmorpg with little reason to log in any more.
Then there’ll be something else you want and on and on it goes. That’s the way life is my friend. The more you have, the more you want
Great stuff. Thank you Wes, Benson, Julie, Nathan, Susan, and all the cast and crew for your work on this short.
Thanks Kyle.
I knew it! I knew it was Wes with the moody shots, cantonese and contemplative self reflection vibes. Canto represent!
Those are things that I like.
Well put together and it really helped me think about where I am now in my life and how from here on out the events that I choose to take on are much bigger than I realize. Loved the short film and always looking forward to next one! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
P.S. Congrats Phil and Helen! It’s great to see how much Wong Fu has grown! Let’s keep it going!
unintentional name dropping of the last short film Julie starred in 😜glad we can make that impact on you!
"A difference between seeing a direction and discovering a path." Just wow. ❤😭
I love this short!!!!! Clearly shows the pure and awesome content that proves the good side of RUclips. I love Wongfu, I'm still young and didn't grow up with Wongfu, but I discovered them later on. I'm glad that I've been able to find this youtube channel. Congrats Phil on your engagement too!!
Love it.
@@thewesleychan I've been noticed by Wes. My purpose is fulfilled. Also I love you Wes!

"I was done trading time for money."
Everyone around me: "that's irresponsible!"
yup.... plus having family to support.
The push and pull between the 2 paths is so reallll
Nice job Wesley - I wish the film had been just a little longer (and maybe we could have heard a phone call from her) but that's the secret of great storytelling - you always want it longer. This story reminds me so much of myself and my friends in my late 20's - I caught in limbo of not liking what I was doing but unsure (or a little scared) of going a different direction, and my best friend getting married, landing that job with the big payday - and I wondered if he would be happy. Years later, he was happy with his choice because structure meant security (although he changed firms after a few years) - and I'm still kind of in that journey. Btw, nice to see Julie Zahn back - keep bringing her back (and yes, Jason and Susan were also very good).
I loved this short! The camerawork was amazing and I truly loved Julie's acting! This is her best work in a Wong Fu video imo. The message was great too- it's something we all feel as a society but is something rarely conveyed in film. "A Difference Between" is tremendous work by Wes!
wong fu: *uploads a new short*
everyone within the first minute: 😭😭
Onion Cutters Club
An excellent & authentic production! After 20 yrs in the Technology Industry, I too realised I needed a “day-to-day” freedom job and no more confining myself to a “boring” high paid job. So I made a deliberate switch to the teaching industry, something I am definitely passionate about and now finding alot of ideas & freedom in giving to the next generation. Sure I miss the xxxxx figure monthly basic pay but I‘ve compromised my health and happiness for the crazy hours I had put in and it’s definitely not worth it.
the flickering lights, a series of possible futures yet to be realized. The video fades to black with two remaining lights, two destinies - maybe that's what it takes to find your way forward, to take a step back and slow down.
Thank you for showcasing Toronto! You captured it's beauty wonderfully!
What a beautifully told story. The acting was exceptional, the kind of moments that really happen in life. The characters are extremely relatable, passionate and we are taking on a journey where we are able to slow down and enjoy the moment... Well done 👍👍👍👍👍👍👌
I don't know if many people know this, but that light art piece near the end of the short was made by a new media artist named David Rokeby, who was my mentor in my last year of university. It's awesome to see his work on one of my favourite RUclips channels :) Thanks Wong fu :)

I watched this prior to the pandemic when I just began my job out of college. No real thoughts. It’s been a tough year, I can’t believe how much I relate to this after watching it again now.
There was this moment at the end where I audible gasped out of wonderment. It's so nice see something that warrant that type of reaction.
Crystal Higginbotham My heart. Thank you.
OMG, this was by far one of the best videos you guys have made, thank you for always making unique and DEEPLY MEANINGFUL content over the years; it really brings out all the issues and things that not a lot of people think about but can realise, relate and understand by watching these videos. @Wong Fu Productions
It takes at least half an hour to walk from the financial district to China town. =)

I always like how Wes' shorts aim to portray a feeling in addition to a story. Also that cinematography 🙌🏻
Sean Frost Thanks Sean.
i saw this and liked without even watching because all the work you do is meaningful and I am happy to watch again
When adulting hit me, I realized that it isn't about money after all. I never wanted to get into the top. I just want to do what I love. That's why I am quiting from my current job. Days are just so dragging. It's tiring going to the office, work, get paid, go home, then repeat. I don't find meaning. It's gonna be risky quiting from my job, but I don't wanna get old living a life of regrets that I didn't pursue what I really want to do.
I watch a lot of Wong Foo Productions videos, and I think I found my favorite today. Thank you, and keep doing the great work, Wesley Chan!
Me seeing that first scene: so Wes
Lol
I love it when she looked at the lights and closed her eyes. No lines and no lines needed.
Good job Benson and Wes❤️❤️❤️
Sheih Genny in the end when they closed their eyes, I closed my eyes too. Idk it just resonated
Hi. It me.
Thank you for the video WFP, it serves as a timely reminder to us what exactly we are fighting for each day when we go to work. Our dreams, our aspirations, our loved ones, or to serve a purpose greater than ourselves.
We love a Wes short
Hey it me
hehe thanks for noticing!
No. It me.
This is what I call a Wongfu production short! Beautiful, meaningful, lingering after taste. This is the reason why I am a backer! Love you guys!
As someone who has made Toronto their home for the last few years, you captured the city beautifully.
Phew!
This is the cinematography that made me fall in love with WongFu ten years ago. Thanks guys.
Ever since Wes posted on Instagran that he was shooting in Toronto I have been waiting for this!! And it's finally here!! Amazing short as always, can't wait for what's to come next 🙌😍
I've recently been wondering about the structure of my current workplace and whether I want more freedom...the timing of your shorts is always uncanny.
Beautifully shot wes!! Thank you so much. I love watching julie's acting. And I recognized so many places in this short :) definitely one of my new favourites ❤
It's crazy how every short that's released is relatable to the current point in my life... wow
Wonderfully done! I work in the white building across the street where the female lead initially came out from. I loved how you incorporated the streets of Toronto and the message of perspectives eloquently made. I’ve been a Big fan for years keep up the great work!
We're big fans of diverse culture! Jokes aside, thanks for the support!
I wasn’t sure what I was clicking on when this showed up in my recommendations...but man am I glad I watched it. Put me in a great mood :)
So much said in the silence of the shimmering light. Beautifully done.
Julie's acting is mad underrated 😭❤
I'm currently working as an IT Consultant, it is good money, but my mind is still somewhere else between making youtube videos and webcomics.
I needed this video, thanks WF! :)
So is this Julie’s life after she parted ways in From Here on Out?!? 😭
No, character name is different.
Wait... are you saying that there are links between the videos in the WongFuniverse?!

I miss Toronto so much. Thank you for bringing it to me from the other side of the world. And as usual with Wesley's videos, the theme treated in the video really resonate with me. Good job!
On my way to ofc while watching. Wong fu- you guys literally made me think how much we are into this culture of run for money while there is so much more in life to see. Hats off for good morning vibes....
i love julie and wes projects so much. every single one of them has something special and how i want to go back and watch all of wes' stuff again
Wes.. you really have a way of making beautiful tears flow out of me. It is like there is this comfort calm feeling I get every time I finish something you write.. maybe how you always add a bit of Cantonese in it. I used to hate knowing my language because I got jealous of all my friends not having to translate for parents/family, but now looking back I am grateful for being their for my family when they needed it most. I love seeing all my family knowing English now but sometimes they call me out just for the comfort of knowing I am there. Your film gives me that comfort~
The imagery here is nothing short of STUNNING!! So good!
Im glad that wonfu grasps my time, where I am and in my crisis.. this clip is like my two personas.. of wantimg to be free in my career but wanting to be structured as well.. it isn't easy in either worlds both have disadvantages and advantages but I found here is the choice to embrace the pros and cons of one world, either being a free lance or an employee etc.
Wow this is definitely one of my fav shorts! Gives some good insight on the internal struggles children of immigrant parents have regarding career choices. Having to chose between stability vs freedom. Also 👍🏻👍🏻 for the Cantonese incorporation! Nicely done!
These things are important to me. To us. Thanks!
These are some of the most beautiful shots I’ve ever seen in film
YES! I’m so glad you were able to shoot in Toronto for this! Amazing piece. Jason representing toronto as well! Love Julie as well! Keep up the great work you all!
