      Ramen cliffhanger! Haha. The cold weather def makes the bowls more memorable. That's neat how there's Kitakata Ramen in NYC. Is that at Banai? We'll actually be visiting Banai's flagship shop (which is not directly affiliated with the ones overseas). Stay tuned! May the ramen force be with you.

    At 6:27 Urota is advertising 生コンクリートそば.. that's a really peculiar name (fresh concrete?).. I also just noticed coincidentally it is next to an Indonesian mailbox, that's so international considering you also found the Filipino place at the end of the video! The change to the train journey to Kitakata reminded me of what happens in the movie 5cm Per Second, but the apple pie scene was pretty funny.

    • @5AMRamen
      @5AMRamen  2 года назад +1

      Sometimes they'll refer to really concentrated niboshi (dried fish) ramen bowls as "concrete" or "cement" style, due to the gray color and thickness of the soup. Was almost tempted to get that one 😊.
      Southeast Asians in Fukushima - who would have thought!
      I haven't seen that movie - looks great - need to give it a watch, thanks!

      Nice to get more veggies since ramen normally doesn't feature that much of them. And the richer soup was perfect with the weather outside 👍

  • @janetmcg3086
    @janetmcg3086 2 года назад

    Frank, all the ramen that you tried looked great, but that vegetable-heavy one looked especially appealing and comforting. Just the thing for a cold day, I guess kind of like an American vegetable soup. But I’ve got to ask! How was the apple pie? I get so jealous when I see what Tabi Eats can get at fast food places and at convenience stores in Japan that’s not available in the US. And I’m looking forward to my instant ramen order! 👍🏻

    • @5AMRamen
      @5AMRamen  2 года назад

      Given that my diet on these trips is mostly carbs, those vegetables were more than welcome! Totally know what you mean - the temp really dropped that evening...and that bowl was extra comforting. It brought me back to life after all that travel 😊. The apple pie was good! Another battery charger for the road. And thank you for ordering - we're shipping out your pack on Monday!

    Nice descriptions of the bowls, Frank! Have you tried the vegan ramen at the Ueno Station 3rd floor? Kyde & Eric showed it on their latest vid yesterday and said it was great, as well as the gyoza,, and while they are meat eaters, they said they didn't miss the meat at all. Would love to hear your take on it.

    • @5AMRamen
      @5AMRamen  2 года назад

      I think they went to Ts Tantan? I haven't been to their Ueno location but have been to their other locations many times - good bowls! They really showcase what you can do with sesame - need to try their gyoza tho. In the future, I'll do a proper vegan ramen video, once I get through the mountain of backlog 😅

      I totally get it 😊. That's unfortunately difficult at ramen shops since they're usually small (counter seating) and ramen etiquette is all about eating quickly and leaving. However, feel free to watch some of my older videos where I do exactly that - I usually contact the ramen shops ahead of time and go during their slower hours for these!
