That bloke thinks our teeth are suitable for eating meat. Presumably also for tearing through skin and ripping up raw meat. Wrong. Our teeth couldn't tear through tough skin and hair. Yes, cats need to eat meat because they are carnivores. We are herbivores and that's how we can live healthily on a plant-based diet. Our ancestors could get their B12 from water sources and soil on plants. Most humans eat meat but that doesn't make them omnivores. Pandas - who are anatomically omnivores leaning towards being carnivores - eat plants. And the occasional insect or small mammal. But they are mainly plant eaters.
He said an army that's purely vegetarian would not be an army that eats meat. This is true. No one could ever find fault with such a statement. And an army that was purely made up of red haired men would not be an army of blonde women. He later said a vegetarian army wouldn't have the strength or resilience to fight. Strange how vegan athletes demonstrate great strength, resilience and stamina. The Japanese army did well in the war and they ate mostly rice and other plant foods. Roman gladiators were mostly plant-based. Even Roman legionaries had largely plant-based diets.
There are strongmen who are plant-based, as you said. And Patrik Baboumian was the first to do the farmer's walk carrying over half a ton. Others have done it since but he was the first. And they are probably bigger. As vegans make up a tiny proportion of the population it's a wonder that there are any top vegan athletes. There are very few (probably none) top athletes from the Isle of Man but that's because there are very few people from the Isle of Man. It's a numbers game.
That bloke said other animals kill for food. Yes, some do and some don't. Elephants and cattle don't. Other animals mate and defecate in public. We don't. Usually. I was pleased to hear him say that we are just animals and we make things up to make us feel better and higher than other animals. This is true: humans are not better or superior than other animals. The death of a sheep or pig is as tragic as the death of a human. Humans have no more right to life than other animals.
He said that more animals are killed for nuts and fruit and veg than for 'that' - presumably 'that' refers to non-vegan food. No, he's wrong - more animals are killed for non-vegans than for soya or almond milk drinkers.
Good work in dealing with his ignorance. He shows how much work there's still to do. But, because he agreed that what he saw is disgusting and knows that humans are nothing special, there's hope for him.

    • @ChadeGB

Most of that is simply inaccurate. If you actually look at the biology of a human with an unbiased eye instead of merely trying to look for information to support what you already believe (confirmation bias) you'd see this clearly, the structure of our digestive system, our teeth being designed to both tear and grind, the way we evolved meant we learnt better ways than to simply try and tear flesh from bone with our teeth and if it wasn't for our heavy protein diet, supplied through eating meat, we would have never evolved to where we are now. It was the fact we could eat both meat and plants that gave us the advantage.
We evolved as omnivores because that gave us an advantage and a greater chance of survival. There are aspects of both herbivore and carnivore to our biology, you can break them down and try to claim we are more inline with an herbivore, but the problem there is most of those things also apply to carnivores.
      Learn more: www.biologyonline.com/articles/humans-omnivores
Now, that said, I am in the same camp as the man in the video, I do feel that the mass murder of animals just to feed an ever growing population of the world is not just unsustainable, but also unethical. This is what needs to be focused on, not the incorrect assertion that we are actually herbivores, we are not. We have reached a point in human evolution as a species though were we could start to rely on other means as sources of protein. This is what our knowledge and technology should be focusing on, starting to reduce our reliance on animals, it is happening, slowly, but it's going to take a long time and people on the street trying to make you feel guilty about eating meat isn't going to change how fast it happens.

Cattle, ruminants in general, and game animals definitely do eat meat when they get the chance. I've seen a deer scarf down a bird whole! And a natural human diet can be determined by giving a baby the options, such as a choice between cheerios, vegetables, raw meat, cooked meat, cooked egg yolk, and raw egg yolk. Universally the baby will choose the raw meat first, and being humans, we understand the issue with food-borne illnesses, but by far the raw meat will give the baby the best protein and nutrition for a growing body.
Now please take our digestive systems under consideration. Another comment mentioned some, but I'll add by mentioning the people on the carnivore diet who very rarely have to go to the bathroom. Our bodies do not have large fermentation areas like gorillas or cattle, and therefore we cannot digest plants anywhere close to the same extent; with this in mind, we digest meat at near-100% efficiency while only absorbing 2-20% of the nutrients within plants (women absorb more than men).
That isn't to say I agree with the carnivore diet, but it is a very interesting case study in what creates or harms the efficiencies and health of our bodies.
Lastly, a couple points: Many animals suffer or perish under tractors and farm equipment for the sake of growing plants; that's likely what the strength trainer in the video meant. And a human child growing up without meat will grow up stunted, less intelligent, and are far more likely to have mental issues. I did not bring up this issue earlier because it's possible this could be mitigated or fixed with a more controlled diet once our knowledge progresses, but at the point of those studies and within current culture, children are less likely to thrive without meat. The difference is, the parent must have full knowledge of nutritional content, nutrient absorption rates, and the will to cook many different things, versus eating a couple eggs and a steak with any fiber on the side.

i was vegan for 10 years , it damaged my body badly , was missing so many nutrients because of things like oxalates , and lectins that blocked nutrient absorbtion , also some vitamins are not easibly absorbed in vegtable form , like iron (heme iron is better absorbed)
      1) Vitamin B1
      2) Retinol: Pre-formed Vitamin A
      Bioavailability
      3) Vitamin D3

      5) Heme Iron
      6) Taurine

these are very important nutrients without them includeed with the malsabsrobtion , and anti-nutrients of oxalates & lectins , you have to take supplemants to make the vegan diet work long term .
a balanced diet is best, unless you have some food intolerances . carnivore is very good for food intolerances ...

I've been doing carnivore diet for 3 months now, lost 2 stone, gout gone, spots gone, no indigestion - T levels through the roof. Each to their own, but I think the terrible treatment of animals is more down to the corrupt money system that we are enslaved into. If we hunted and killed animals humanely and sustainably like we did thousands of years ago then I don't see the issue. I respect all of your opinions though.

    • @grawss
      @grawss 3 месяца назад +2

As a meat eater: Down with factory farming! It wasn't thousands of years ago, it was less than a hundred (edit: oops, you're talking about only hunting; in my biases I read sustainable farming + hunting). And it's easy to see the results: Prior to the low-fat movement, obesity was an extraordinarily rare occurrence. Pictures on image searches from the 1950s, for example, have everyone looking fit and functional, whereas now it's hard to look anywhere without seeing the opposite. That isn't to say it's entirely diet-related, nor are these people eating the best diet by any measure, but our instant-gratification culture has created problems across the board, and I consider factory farming to be the equivalent of drinking liquid candy (pop/soda) as far as culture is concerned.

Omnivore doesn't mean you can choose just one part of the diet. Omnivore means you both can and have to eat a variety of foods.
There's one extremely important vitamin you CAN NOT GET from a vegan diet without modern technology. One you'll freaking die without. Vitamin B12. A vegan diet contains zero B12, which is necessary for production of hemoglobin. Without B12, you die of anemia.
In the modern day, you can get B12 supplements. They're usually made in a lab using bacteria (yum, sounds healthy and natural). The other way to get B12, and the one that our ancestors all had to use, was eating meat.

    • @rupert_thorpe

@@immikeurnot our ancestors got b12 from contaminated water, b12 is produced by bacteria, not plants or animals.
