Now you can buy it for $250 if you do an in game event which is super easy. Alternatively if you dont want to spend anything you can wait until the single player releases and youll get one when you complete it. Its still shitty that its $250 for a ship but just clarifying everything
There's a lot of confusion about buying ships in SC. It's more about supporting the game than it is about getting the ship. If you want the ship, just buy it in game later. If you want to support the development, buy the ship with real money.

I was watching XenoThreat's stream for the launch of the event. He and CaptainBerks were trying to get the plat ticket of a dev and that dev had a handful of player protectors. Not sure if they were devs on alt accounts, or hired guards. It was interesting to see though.
Glad I own one, haven't played in a while though. Love this event and hope they do this for random ships moving forward just to keep the community engaged and reward players who are actively playing
Ship handles super well and fights super well, although most do when they get new ships out the door... best thing by far is the looks, they'll not change and they're in my opinion some of the best in the game. Looking forward to seeing the new information, whatever that will be in just over a weeks time.

Clarification on ways to get the F8C Lighting (thanks jason for the extra info) - Spend $10000 in the RSI store (since you can't spend the money "in the game") and get, as a reward, the F8C with the new Shockwave paint. - Spend $15000 in the RSI store and get, as a reward, the F8C Executive which has the black and gold paint. - Find a gold ticket for the next 8 (at this point) days, return to a rental kiosk, and rent the ship for 24 hours. You'll receive email that will take you to a specific page on the RSI store that lets you purchase an F8C with no skin for $260 WB, or $300 in credits. - Take the "Running the Gauntlet" priority mission for the next 8 days, if it appears, and chase down a CIG developer who has a platinum ticket. Kill him, take the ticket, and avoid other players until you can turn it in at a ship purchasing store (Crusader, Hurston, or ArcCorp). This gets you a free F8C with a special skin. - Once SQ42 releases, complete the game, and receive a badge or ticket or something that signifies you can purchase the ship IN GAME. This last bullet is still not settled or completely clarified by CIG. Is it just completing the game? Is it completing the game on a certain difficulty? We don't know the specifics on this one yet, because CIG probably doesn't, either.

I feel that it would have been more accurate to have called it a $160/300 dollar ship (now we have a price) with a $10,000 skin. Especially considering that we where always going to be able to buy it at some point, that point originally being after SQ42 released.
They're running the Gold Ticket event again. You can loot it off of any enemy NPC bodies and loot crates found in outposts or bunkers. It gets you the free 24h Rental of the F8C and allows you to buy it off of the Pledge store for $260 Warbond/$300 Standard. Neither version comes with the LTI or any extended insurance, which seems fair considering they gave IAE purchasers 120 Months and the Warbond version from the initial event was LTI. Still kind of feels like Concierge status members are getting shafted because they have to spend a collective amount of $10k to get the ship as a reward with LTI.
CIG has said a few times that concierge rewards will be updated/changed in the future. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Additionally, I don't think most wing commander or praetorians spent that much to get THAT ship. It's a fun reward. Plus we get unique paints for them :)

I'd be OK with the F8A, but it'll never happen. I've joked with one of the CIG ship designers that I want the Squadron 999 livery for my F8C, and all WCs should get the opportunity to buy that. He laughed at me and told me there's no way in hell that'll ever happen. Too bad. ;-)
Just got 1v3'd by a F8C (looking at you moon_g****) My group were in: Constellation, Hercules and Corsair (Corsair came late to the party though) F8C was simply too fast, turned too quick, and dealt too much damage when in range. Boosted away from almost every missile barrage and had a field day with us.
1:04 This is incorrect it is only to be able to rent it not own it. It's the platinum ticket you want. The gold tickets can be found under any rock. You don't have to beat Sq42 you only need to get to a certain stage of the game to be eligible for the ship and of course all the whales are mad because the ship was never meant to be obtainable any other way.
PVP was never intended to be fair in this game, and it never can be. If you show up in this ship, but I show up with 3 of my buddies in Auroras, we're still probably going to shred you. This ship can give you and edge just like any ship can, but nothing is guaranteed, even in a 1v1 scenario.
The problem with the F8A and C is the same problem with all the other fighters in the game - an anvil sweat is gonna slot in on your six and stay there till you die

It's only "rare" because the tickets are found on CIG devs, but those CIG devs have "CIG" in their names. You can easily tell when they're on your server, and the platinum ticket prompts a server wide emergency contract that you can accept that shows you where that developer is. It's very easy to find them. It's not easy to get it from them.
If you find a gold ticket (Which are in nearly every box) you can purchase the lightning without spending $10,000 just $260. So no reward for spending money 😂
There is come information that need to be cleared up here. Many Star Citizen backers having been pledging off and on since the first days of the kickstarter. While others like me started back in 2014 and others even later. Also many of us never put $10,000 all at once into the game. The amount of money just built up overtime since it is all being recorded on our account. Some of us were even surprised that overtime we put in as much as to $10,000 to $15,000 in the game which isn't surprising. Since the average hardcore gamer spends as much as $1,000 or more per year in games in general. So with this information it make perfect sense why many Star Citizen backers have pledged as much as $10,000 or more into the game. I even know that some original backers put in so much more it will shock you especially since some of them are millionaires and really nice people too.

I'd be OK with the F8A, but it'll never happen. I've joked with one of the CIG ship designers that I want the Squadron 999 livery for my F8C, and all WCs should get the opportunity to buy that. He laughed at me and told me there's no way in hell that'll ever happen. Too bad. ;-)

Just got 1v3'd by a F8C (looking at you moon_g****)
My group were in: Constellation, Hercules and Corsair (Corsair came late to the party though)
F8C was simply too fast, turned too quick, and dealt too much damage when in range.
Boosted away from almost every missile barrage and had a field day with us.

You don't have to beat Sq42 you only need to get to a certain stage of the game to be eligible for the ship and of course all the whales are mad because the ship was never meant to be obtainable any other way.

We all can just hope at this point that the thing is not good in pvp or else all normal people just get screwed over.
PVP was never intended to be fair in this game, and it never can be. If you show up in this ship, but I show up with 3 of my buddies in Auroras, we're still probably going to shred you. This ship can give you and edge just like any ship can, but nothing is guaranteed, even in a 1v1 scenario.

It's only "rare" because the tickets are found on CIG devs, but those CIG devs have "CIG" in their names. You can easily tell when they're on your server, and the platinum ticket prompts a server wide emergency contract that you can accept that shows you where that developer is. It's very easy to find them. It's not easy to get it from them.

There is come information that need to be cleared up here. Many Star Citizen backers having been pledging off and on since the first days of the kickstarter. While others like me started back in 2014 and others even later. Also many of us never put $10,000 all at once into the game. The amount of money just built up overtime since it is all being recorded on our account. Some of us were even surprised that overtime we put in as much as to $10,000 to $15,000 in the game which isn't surprising. Since the average hardcore gamer spends as much as $1,000 or more per year in games in general. So with this information it make perfect sense why many Star Citizen backers have pledged as much as $10,000 or more into the game. I even know that some original backers put in so much more it will shock you especially since some of them are millionaires and really nice people too.

The Global movie box office for that same year was 26 Billion. Movies are Optional too. So we humans are doing what we always did - find other things to occupy our time, once Food, Water and Oxygen are taken care of.
