Followed Jamies instructions. Went out today, bought myself some lamb shanks, and had a proper little cook up. Couple generous pours of whiskey, then I put some in with the lamb too. Another hour left to go and can't wait.

This is the next thing on my list of Jamie’s dishes to try. I can’t wait! Thank you Jamie for your sharing your incredible gift of Cuisine. And I might try this with Polenta too or of course mashed potatoes -never had Haggis but this sounds much easier.
Made it with stewing Lamb neck (closest matching cut I could find) but figured I didn't have enough meat so ran out and bought some beef (as my nearby store didn't have lamb). Now praying the flavour is consistent 🙏
Thanks for another great looking recipe Jamie. I dont eat lamb (and very little meat in general), but the sauce, the veggies and the barley look really tasty. Maybe I will just try this feast without the lamb, I think it still will be tasty.
Thanks for the recipe, Jamie!! Here in prison, me and the other inmates can’t wait to try making this! Unfortunately we don’t have access to any whiskey or lamb, but it IS fairly easy for us to get a good shank.
Does this barley risotto require the same constant attention that other rice risottos do? Or is it really just 'throw in a pot for 40 minutes and let it go'?
I absolutely love any reason not to peel Vegetables! So am I seeing right here and we don't peel Swede's now? I'll be so happy if dont have to peel then now!

Ive made an Italian variation of this over a bed of polenta its to die for.

Yes I have done so before. Nothing too wood forward, but robust enough to add flavour - think Knob Creek 9 or Bakers

I’d give it a stir every now and then but pearl barley is a grain whereas risotto is a rice. You don’t have to treat them the same.

It's really hard to find lamb shanks where I live. Occasionally they come in a pre-prepared pack, and I never buy those.
