This scene was so gut wrenching. Had to be a gut punch for Dan to learn more about his Mother and the past. And when Dan starts sobbing and tells Roseanne he can't take this, she puts her arms around him and tells him that's okay, she'll take it with him. A great performance by both Roaseanne and John Goodman in this episode.

I remember watching this when I was 10 when it aired. It really tripped me out as a kid seeing a big, strong guy like Dan break down and cry. It was like seeing my own dad cry, which later that year I did see when my parents got divorced.

I've only seen my Dad cry twice, 2010 when we had the family dog Oliver put down who was the best dog we ever had, 6 years later when his brother my Uncle passed. This last summer Oliver's successor Dugan, who we got 6 months after Oliver's passing, himself passed away and he too was considered the best dog we ever had, I wasn't present but I know my Dad cried for him too. It's very hard to watch because it happens so rarely.

He channeled a pain that only comes from many different hurts hitting you all at once. Shock, from learning the truth. Anger, from having not known it and how it affected his attitude and approach to the situation. Regret, from having come to hate someone who was really trying to have his back and protect him. Confusion, from not understanding why it had to be that way.

My grandmother has Alzheimer's and I am one of her caregivers. Everybody has a breaking point where it just gets too much and either you get angry or you cry because the reality is so heavy that you can't bear the weight on your feet so you fall to your knees. My situation may be different from Dan's, but I also know what it's like to live with mental illness. I have an anxiety disorder and because Alzheimer's also comes with anxiety attacks, and for the entire ride I've had to go through a lot of triggers to help her. Everybody needs to let it all out and in a way that is not destructive. Coming to terms with a grim reality is hard for everyone and John Goodman did a fantastic job conveying that range of emotions in this scene.

In the season 2 Thanksgiving episode, Dan's mom was played by Anne Wedgeworth (Lana from Three's Company). She was normal then. She ran her own travel agency even. How come they made her into a mentally unstable person? She was then played by Debbie Reynolds in a season 9 episode where she was just released from a mental hospital. They did the same thing with Roseanne's dad. He first appeared in season 1 played by John Randolph. He was a little goofy, but normal. Then they had John Randolph not play that part anymore and they changed the character into an abuser.

I cannot get behind The Conners because, for me, that was too big of a cast change. After it was revealed that Roseanne Conner was a casualty of the opioid epidemic, I thought, how can the writers bring the comedy back after Roseanne died in the most depressing way possible. Mark did not die as a result of an overdose as his actor Glen Quinn did. Mark died from a motorcycle accident from hitting a deer. Somebody there had to be upset with Barr to make her character die in such a sad way. They could have at least could have had Roseanne die in the funniest way as a way possible. It's a comedy after all!

Whether it was Cliff Barnes getting Closure about his Daddy Digger Barnes or on Soaps where Evan Bates find out the Truth about his Mother Janice on Another World where he was lead to believe that Rachel Cory killed his Mother when Janice wanted to do the killing. Another brilliant example was when Emma Nelson got closure about her "Father" Shane on Degrassi. When Ed told Dan "That he couldn't stop living in the past", it really must have hit his jugular and sadly enough the Two drifted apart.

For years Dan blamed his father for his parents marriage breaking up...yet in reality his father did all he could to protect the mother’s image, always saying she had been visiting relatives and such when Dan was a kid , when in reality she was severely mentally ill , and the truth came out here , and he either admitted it to himself for the first time , or really grasped it for the first time . It was extremely emotional

Do you mean what Dan is going through & processing in this scene is like what you're going through & processing at this time (or at least 2 mos ago when you posted your comment)?
