The event they are discussing occurred during the War of 1812 when the United States was already an independent nation. For some reason they make the monumental mistake of conflating this battle with the War of Independence that lasted from 1775 to 1783.
To answer your question: about how many people died? The answer will shock you because it was only eight and four of them were from the men holding up the flag and zero children died! I think they had bunkers to protect them if I remember the story, right! Obviously, I’m American.
I should also mention that the Star-Spangled Banner is one of the hardest songs to sing because of one remembering the lyrics which I know because of my age, which is only 50 and the different chords and how the pitch is is incredible the way he sings it! Listen to it again and hear the drops and the heights of the words n You’ll understand
Whitney Houston was the most famous person to sing the Star-Spangled Banner at the superbowl, it’s your right hand over your heart, and our heart stopped when you paused it, which is incredibly insulting, which I know you didn’t know, but when you hear it, no problem, singing along silently, but don’t ever pause or talk over it because that stops our hearts! Still love you guys to death. I just wanted to give you that advice. And have a nice day guys.

My mother was Born in Central America after becoming a U S Citizen, people would ask her where she was From she'd say "I'm an AMERICAN" because of her accent they ask "no where were you born" she'd respond " it doesn't matter because I'm an AMERICAN" my parents were Proud of our Country and passed that onto me and my siblings they also taught us Service before Self. One of my siblings became a Teacher, one a Nurse and 2 if us served over 20 years each in the Military. Having been Stationed in Europe, Asia and Deploying to the Middle East in my opinion there's NO BETTER PLACE THAN AMERICA
Well she's a stupid as a lot of people because there are Americans in 35 American countries, she should have said she's it was a U.S. citizen of United States. Do Germans or Russians say they're Europeans or do they say they're Germans and Russians? Canadians are so messed up and confused they i thought you said they don't think they're Americans. But Canada is still connected to the rest of north America. Lastly Central America is actually part of North America right you do know that it's taught in schools, or it used to be when I went to school.!
If they asked your mother, "Where are you from?" She should have answered with the name of the country of her birth. They weren't asking her nationality. Naturalization doesn't change history. You are from the nation of your birth. If they had inquired as to her citizenship, then the correct answer would have been she's American.
@@Nomad-vv1gk You need to look up the definition of the word 'pride' so you understand the idea of being proud of something like an accomplishment. Do you have even THE FIRST CLUE just how difficult the tests are, in order to get citizenship in the United States? Studying for all of those tests is HARD and people who succeed in doing so SHOULD be proud of themselves. it takes patience, commitment and actual real work in order to get it all memorized so that when you take the tests, you can pass. Anybody (such as myself) who was born here are automatically citizens. Most of us are lazy enough that we would not be able to successfully pass those tests. Those who take and pass those tests REALLY HAVE ACTUAL CAUSE TO BE PROUD. I do not have a problem AT ALL with this woman refusing to answer the way YOU want her to answer. You are a closed-minded control freak so it would not matter what you say; acting like a jerk makes your opinion completely invalid. She actually DID THE DAMNED THING and since you did not, you have no room at all to bitch about somebody who actually put in all that effort. Furthermore you are in no position to TAKE rights away from anybody who worked harder than you did in order to get those rights. :P
We never let our flag touch the ground, because it’s a sign of surrender, and for us, our flag is a symbol of our sacrifice in our fight for freedom and our land.
This is why some people get so upset when others (even Americans) say - "Why care about a flag, pledge allegiance to it, get angry when it's on the ground, or disrespect it. It's just a flag." It's much more than just a flag to those who know. Great reaction. Thanks.
@@Nomad-vv1gkcry about it some more. We Americans love our country and our flag. What isn't a lie is that we fought the most powerful empire in the world to a stalemate until they gave up. We have lost our way since WW2. But that doesn't change the passion and the sacrifice of our founders. And we will rediscover it at some point. And may heaven have mercy on the corrupt and wicked who call themselves our rulers, cause we won't.
The American Flag represents the blood of Americans who have gave their lives for their country. All races have gave their lives for America. For a peon to disrespect it is Frowned upon. America isn't perfect, but we strive to be better everyday. I love my country. America the beautiful.
I was in the US Army. We had a special place to burn American flags that touched the ground. We never allowed a flag to fly that had touched the ground. It was an old rule we took very seriously.

What I found sad was some of what I heard these young folk saying about Great Britain. I am an American. I am proud of our history. I am proud of the story related in this video and, though some of the inacuracies bother me, I tear up at the essence of the story and at what our flag represents to us. I am saddened that it carries that meaning to fewer and fewer of our young people and recognize that Britain is merely a bit further down that path that we are because Great Britain does have a proud history and there are things that should fill you with pride. The US had legitimate grievances against Britain in the War of 1812 and the wounds of our revolution, where we separated from Britain were still fresh. Britain was a large colonial power that circumvallated the globe. Britain was often extremely arrogant and failed to respect the rights of other nations and peoples. The Brits can still be arrogant at times (as can we), but they also accomplished wonders. The Brits decided that slavery was morally repugnant and became the first nation to outlaw the practice. In their arrogance, they then tried to force the abolition of slavery upon the rest of the world. Yes, that was arrogant. It was also morally right. Britain often fought the war on slavery alone. Britain took upon itself incredible debt to stamp out slavery, not at home but across the world. That debt was finally paid off fully only nine years ago. British lives policed the seas to end the practice. It was only slowly accepted by other nations and still has not been accepted in fact by many. This is but one example. There are others. Britain has its warts as does my nation. It is by being aware of those warts that they were excised. I find it sad that in this day, so many are trying to erase that history. Like Santayana, I fear that this will doom us to eventually repeat these mistakes. My family claims Scottish descent. We came to America because, after Culloden, it was not particularly healthy for followers of Bonnie Prince Charlie to remain in the British isles. I wore a kilt to my wedding and had pipers. Sometimes it is fun to remember my Scottish roots. Other times it can be an embarrassment (I'm thinking of haggis and the SNP) but ultimately, I am not a Scot. I am a Texan from the USA. I am proud of that even though there are some things in our past that make me wince. I think we have done more good in the world than evil. I happen to believe that your nation has as well. I hope we get better. I pray that y'all will as well. When we fail, I pray we have the grace to do better next time. I think, mostly, we have (that we includes the USA and GB). Peace and Grace be with you both.
do not forget though, that while England did take a stand against slavery eventually ; they were major slave traders for a century or more, to the colonies, and especially to the islands in Caribbean they stole, and used slaves. to do all the farming and sugar and rum production, for hundred years. They divorced. themselves from the practice, in good faith (and as they did not need the labor back home); but helped to start the whole process in the first place. They also, effectively enslaved. whole nations for profit in India subcontinent, Africa , etc they were the bloddsuckers. of the less civilized world along with Germany, Belgium, France , Spain, Portugal and other European nations, as were the. Arab countries in dominating the whole eastern side of African continent. Human thru-out history are no better than the most primitive insects and animals to dominate whatever they can.
I served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years and every time we returned home, seeing the American Flag flying as we entered port, always moved me and filled me with pride.
Heads up from an American - you wouldn't feel that way about England if you had lived during WWII, especially if you were in or around London during the Blitz. You should watch the movie "Mrs Miniver" with Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon. FYI - The late Queen, when she was 18 yr old Princess Elizabeth, dug in her heels and fought her father until he gave in and let her join the British Army during WWII. She enlisted as 2nd Subaltern (2nd Lt) Elizabeth Windsor and served as a vehicle mechanic. She was ans still is the only female member of the British royal family to ever serve in the military.
The flag flys in front of my house 365 days a year. In school I was on flag duty and were taught how to fold it and to never let it touch the ground. Whether you hate the politics or how things are going it is still by far and above the best country and it is taken for granted.
The prisoners were prisoners of war, NOT prisoners of crime. And yes, we stand and sing with our hand over our hearts. We also remove our hats & caps to show respect to all the men and women who.have died defending freedom for our country. We take it seriously.
Key was there to seek the release of only one prisoner. This story is full of lies. Do your own research, don't believe the lies and exaggerations of the story in this video.
The event was the bombardment of Ft McHenry during the seige of Baltimore. After 2 land assaults had failed by the British, a navel assault was called for, but to enter the harbor the guarding fort needed to be neutralized to remove the "boom chains" stretch across the entrance of the harbor. On the 13th of Sept 1814 the British fleet bombarded the fort for over 25 hours, exhausting most of their ammunition, but leaving the fort still in operational condition and too dangerous to press a close range engagement decided to withdraw. Mr.Key being not only a attorney, but a amateur poet and being on one of the prison barges in the bay at the time and not being allowed to leave during the engagement, had a front row seat for the entire event.
At the time the British had the largest and strongest army and navy in the world. The fear of 20k plus red suits marching towards you was very intimidating. The Brits had the largest strongest Navy until World War 2. Your right hand goes over your heart :)
The reason why so many other countries are more proud than the British is because all those countries had to fight for their freedom from Britain. That why so many countries have an Independence day and the UK doesn't
I was a Medic in the North Carolina Army National Guard from 1981 to 1987. This is why Veterans do not want the American Flag on the ground. The Battle was during the War of 1812. the star-spangled banner has 4 Verses to it.

I knew he was gonna stop before the end. Ok, hear the real story. This was during the War of 1812 not the Revolutionary War as the narrator suggests( This is about 40 or so years after the Revolutionary War, however, I can still see a British Admiral still calling us a colony). The Brits who were a superpower at the time had just burnt down the White House. Now they had set their eyes on Baltimore. They first attacked the city with troops but were halted by the defenses of the city. They decided to attack the ship docks to enter the city. First, they had to bypass Ft Henry. They used 20 ships of various sizes, not hundreds. The Ft. had about a thousand troops along with some militias and civilians. The conflict cost the Americans 6 lives in the engagement. The fort was well-built and defended. The lawyer who was to negotiate was originally sent to get the release of a popular doctor but also took on the job of getting the other prisoners released. He wrote the poem, but it did not become our anthem until the mid-1930s. When a German author put music to it. The Brits gave up the fight and Baltimore was saved. Shortly after that they went to New Orleans and had their ass given to them in the last major battle of the war. Here is the kicker. The quote he attributes to GW was actually from the Mexican Revolutionary War leader Sabata and his men who would shout it out when being executed. You can actually look it up on Google. The maker of this video was questioned on his accuracy. He then makes a second video to explain it, but it is just a video of what if it did happen this way. Love my country and yes we Americans of all types love and respect the flag. There are many other events like this one that make us proud. It's been a long time since I read any history so my version may also not be accurate.
The music was originally composed To Anacreon in Heaven by John Stafford Smith for Gentleman’s club for amateur musicians in London,Francis Scott Key first used the tune in a song called When the warrior 9 yrs before he wrote The Star Spangled Banner
Bullfeathers! Tat rule is not exclusive to any nation. No nation allows its flag to touch the ground as a matter of respect. It has nothing to do with the false story in this video.
@heywoodjablowme8120 I am a 49er fan, and I couldn't have said it better. I don't care if Americans hate our government but love your country and those who died for our freedom so we don't have to.

That is what I served for, his freedom to kneel. Funny how people upset didnt bilnk while others were cursing and screaming at him while it played.
This was The War of 1812....not the Revolutionary War....a few things wrong in the telling of the story. The US was not a colony of the Britain in 1812.
The orator at the beginning calls it a "story"; given there's pic of the original writing, and paintings depicting the cannon fire...there must be some of actual history utilized for the "STORY"...If you believed in Santa Claus, you probably left cookies and milk for him...PEACE, Bro..

The “colonies” moniker was done away with in 1783 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. Upon signing this treaty, Great Britain recognized her former 13 colonies as the United States of America. The War of 1812 kicked off, mainly due to impressment of American sailors into the Royal Navy (there were other reasons, but the sailors being “recruited” at gunpoint was the major.) Both the US and British Armies had won battles but never a decisive victory. On the naval front, the fledgling US Navy had six ‘super’ frigates that were armed with up to 52 guns (or cannons). The most famous of these was the USS Constitution, she sank or captured five warships of the Royal Navy - she is still on active duty to this very day and can still sail under her own power.
Yep = having visited Britain a few times they will say that. They will say that to anyone from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, and wherever else. Spent quite a few nights drinking in the local pubs and it was all in good fun - or was it??? Great times!!@@jshound1508
This vid is about the War of 1812. It was a draw and both the UK & US decided to stop fighting and go to neutral corners so to speak. It was the last armed conflict between the two countries.
In the war of 1812, the British burned down the White House and capitol building. The British thought the US was a territory of Britain since it was British people who colonized here but the people got tired of being taxed so we created the USA. That resulted in war. The French were in the mix as well. France actually had territory in the US but we bought it from them. The Lousiana Purchase.
Fun fact, that flag was delivered earlier that day and that flag from that day and after the battle is currently hanging in the museum in Washington DC
This little war happened in 1812. In fact, it was called "The War of 1812" in our history books across the pond here. The British tried a second time to try and retake the colonies and failed again. A year or two after the 1812 war is when Key wrote this poem, which turned into our national anthem.
We have a patriotic song, "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" the old unofficial national anthem we took the tune of "God Save the King" probably to piss off the Brits.
I just paused briefly at the 2:59 minute mark to write this comment to clarify the 'prisoner exchange' thing. This video is regarding the War of 1812. Anyway, the prisoners held by both sides were not regular citizens who broke laws in England or in the USA. These were prisoners of war...captured soldiers. The USA had captured British soldiers, and the British had captured US soldiers. So, the prisoner exchange is regarding each country (the USA and England) acting in good faith and honor in each releasing captured soldiers. Paused at the 8:55 minute mark: Yes, Britain and the USA were at odds with each other in that era. Remember, the USA was initially a composition of 13 colonies of England (the original 13 colonies were comprised of the following states: Connecticut, Georgia, Rhode Island, New York, Delaware, Maryland, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia). For years there had been growing tensions between the mother country, England, and her 13 colonies in America. So, by 1776 those 13 British colonies declared themselves independent from England, and declaring themselves a new nation called 'The United States of America'. From the moment the 'Founding Fathers' of this new nation sent England this 'Declaration of Independence', those USA Founding Fathers were immediately rendered as treasonous by the British. Thus the American Revolution started, which was the war between the newly created USA and Britian --- that war lasted from 1776 to 1783, and the USA was victorious. However, even though the USA/British war ended in 1783, there were still tensions between the two nations, and about 30 years later in 1812, the British attacked and invaded the USA (again, the USA was still a relatively new nation, of just over 40 years old). This video is about that short war that occurred in 1812 when the British attacked and invaded the young USA nation. Anyway, I'm American and I love my country...but I also love England. I've been there many times (have family in London etc). You guys have an amazing country, and you should definitely be proud to be British. Just remember, that EVERY nation and culture on Earth have been similarly guilty of horrific deeds, most of which have been lost to history. We all came from tribes which were conquered by bigger tribes, and which were then conquered by town-states and city states, and eventually nations with defined borders. No region, no culture, and no race of people are without guilt sometime in their existence throughout history.
Fun and bizarre fact... the Key Brigde, which was JUST hit by the cargo ship in Baltimore a few days ago, is named after Francis Scott Key, the man from this video.
This is why history needs to be taught, good or bad, it's American history and must not be forgotten. If you don't learn from the past, you are condemned to repeat it. I love my country, and we still have a long way to go. Freedom is earned, not just given at least to strive for. God bless America 🇺🇸 🙏

Iam very proud to say that I am an American. I stand for the flag and kneel for the cross. The debt for our flag and our country was paid for with the patriots' blood. This is why our flag must never touch the ground. We have too much pride in our country and our freedom. Freedom from oppression, freedom from tyranny, you want to see another part of America being proud and helping others, look at what happened during 9/11. We came together and we fought hard to find any life that we could, at the Twin Towers. First responders from all over the country went to New York to help any way that they could. We did not lay down and crawl under a rock, we came out fighting and the fight is still there.
A little background if I may. This event happened during the war of 1812. The Revolution happened in 1776 establishing the USA. This was when the British forces returned to end it. Fort McHenry was and still is at the mouth of the Potomac River that leads from the open waters directly to Washington, DC. The fort was equipped with old cannons that could not reach the British ships that were firing on it, however, they could protect the entrance to the Potomac River and sink any ship that tried to pass. So the British either had to destroy the fort or be destroyed trying to get past it. This made it an all or nothing gamble for both sides. If the British Navy got past the fort they would sail unopposed directly to the Capitol of the young United States. If this, the largest armada Great Britain ever assembled. the most powerful in the world could not get past Fort McHenry now, it never would. Now you understand. The National Anthem concludes with a question: "Does the Star Spangled Banner yet wave o're the land of the free and the home of the brave?" This doesn't inquire if the flag still waves but rather, are we still the land of the free and the home of the brave? Every generation has to answer this inquiry. Because Freedom isn't Free.
Visitors often wonder why Americans fly so many USA flags at our houses. This is exactly why, when we fight, we win and honor our dead. We were forced to be a warrior society to defend our right to exist.
The flag at the Smithsonian did not fly during the battle and was not damaged in any way by the British. That flag was raised the morning after the battle. The holes you see are from the commander of the fort illegally selling pieces of the flag after the battle.
Nobody displayed flag the way Nazi Germany did. The proliferation of a nations flag is the first mark of Fascism. Patriotism is still the last refuge of a scoundrel. In America, you can now add the sect of Evangelical so-called Christians.
As a yank, I always looked toward Britain as a father figure. They gave us so much. We, unfortunately, have an independent spirit. We believe in people. We do not ask for help from others, which we could do for ourselves, and we lead by example with kindness, perseverance and respect (granted this is what I hope America would do, but it's a large country and we have made many mistakes). Britain at this time is just trying to keep a part of its empire that it paid a lot of money and blood for. I'm happy for American Freedom (the power of individuals, not a overpowering government) which I would die for, because I believe in it.
The bridge named after him was just involved in that horrific container ship accident in Baltimore this past week. That flag is on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Wash.

The American flag is not about politics or politicians. It’s about the men and women over the centuries who gave their lives to fight for the freedom of this country. When the National Anthem is played you you show respect by standing and putting your right hand over your heart. If you’re military, you salute. You Take your hat off , you don’t kneel or sit during the playing of the anthem. When you show respect to the National Anthem, you’re showing respect to those who have fought for this country andour freedom and for the people who continue to fight for this country and our freedom! At no time should the American flag ever touch the ground.
I was a cub (boy) scout leader and one thing I taught my guys was how to correctly fold the American flag properly and we learned about the flag facts at the same time. It was something we did several times because my guys loved it. 🇺🇸
Please don't be disrespectful. Unintentional or not. For us United States citizens who haven't forgotten what our flag stands for. And the blood and lives sacrificed for my freedom. For our soldiers who to this day fight, bleed and die for the freedoms we have today. And swear to protect the Constitution and flag and country. It's so important to be and show respect for those soldiers from the beginning of the country through today and honor them and their sacrifice. Blessings from the Great State of Texas 🇺🇸

I'm an American, and since my ancestors came from England, Ireland, Scotland (and France) -- we could be related! I'm so sorry to hear you don't feel proud to be from England. Our conflict was only at the very start of the USA -- back when we were only 13 colonies -- and were fighting England for our independence. Since that time, we have become the best of allies. We here in America feel an affinity with you in England ... perhaps because we know we might be related! ALL countries have parts of their history that they aren't proud of. Hopefully, like America, countries learn and grow from their mistakes. Thank you for listening to the story of how Francis Scott Key came to write our national anthem.
Every morning at 0800 on the Base I work and on all US Military Bases (Navy and Marine, the Army and Air Force might do it sunrise) The Star Spangled Banner is played as the American Flag is hosted. If you are outside and in you are a Military member in uniform or if you are a current Military member or retired Military member, or a Veteran, you turn toward where the Flag is being hosted and render a salute holding it till the all clear is played. If you are in your vehicle you aret to stop and stay stationary till the all clear. Every morning I hear it playing while at work, I will sing the song in my head.

It's wild af to study the strength of the British Empire in those days. I'm sure this isn't taught in any school curriculum here or these, for obvious reasons, but it's insane. In those days, the British Empire owned the UK, the entirety of the known parts of North, Central and South America, the entirety of continental Africa (except Ethiopia and Liberia), India, Australia, New Zealand, many island nations of the Caribbean and the south pacific, and large swaths of land in the middle east, China and Russia. Not to mention, the royalty of the UK were in some way or another related to the royalty of most European nations. At one point, they had control of 1/3 the population of planet earth. Its a valid comparison when you compare the power, control, wealth and military force of the British Empire at its peak vs the Roman Empire at its peak
As a Native American (Apache) I also get misty in the eyes when I hear this song, even though the US government was doing genocide for ALL Native peoples before, during and after.
Good video!! This was happening during the War of 1812. The war lasted from 1812-1814. Also, remember that Britain was fighting the Napoleonic Wars at the very same time. The war was against Britain for various reasons, mainly for IMPRESMENT. British naval ships would stop other ships from different nations, board them with the excuse of searching for British deserters and grab a bunch of crewmen and take them aboard their own ships, thus impressing them into service with the Royal Navy. The British did this quite a bit to American merchant ships. America would complain and file suits against Britain according to international law of the time but to no avail - Britain just did whatever it felt like at the time. Eventually war was declared, and the USA was drastically unprepared for war with Britain. Britain had a good-sized army in Canada where most of the fighting took place along the border and other locations during the early part of the war. Britain decided to try and end this war by invading America via the Chesapeake Bay area, captured Washington DC after the Americans were defeated at the Battle of Bladensburg and burned the city to the ground. Legend has it that a terrible storm arose with torrential rains and a tornado thus extinguishing the fires to the city. Afterwards, the British sailed up the Chesapeake Bay in the hopes of eliminating Fort McHenry and capturing Baltimore. Failing to subdue the Americans at Fort McHenry, they then withdrew. Again, remember that Britain's primary concern during this time period was defeating Napoleon on the Continent. Once Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo, Britain sent a large expeditionary force to try and capture the major American city of New Orleans. The British were thoroughly defeated at New Orleans. However, an irony to this battle was that it was actually fought in 1815 - a few months AFTER peace was declared with the Treaty of Ghent in 1814. With the communications problems of the time, the opposing forces did NOT receive word that the war was over until after the battle. This is a SIMPLIFIED HISTORY of the War of 1812, am sure other commentors will tear this apart and/or ADD more helpful information.
Hi , I hail from Washington state USA. I have watched many people from many different countries react to this video , my pride for America swells so much that it leaks from my eyes. Thank you for the wonderful video. Can't wait to see the next one. Cheers to you from Seattle, Washington.
A lot of this is not accurate, but the spirit of it is. The biggest problem is that it makes it seem like this happened during the Revolutionary War, but it didn't happen until the War of 1812.
The UK didn't "allow" the US the take over. The UK couldn't compete even before WW2, where the US economy had surpassed the empire at its peak. Once WW2 ended the UK had nothing left and then this was exacerbated by the UK letting go of colonies. Also the US and UK were not allies at first. The US originally was 13 colonies under the british and was the first colony to fight the british and win independence
As someone who served in the US Military the Anthem and Old Glory mean very much to me and my brothers. When I see Americans disrespect either I tend to see red and have to fight to not commit violence. I’ve handed folded flags to the families of 13 men I called brother. It’s not something to disrespect. That’s why it’s been so polarizing when Colin crapernqck decided he’d turn his back on the country who paid him millions to play a children’s game. I think if a lot of these ungrateful “Americans” had to fight to defend the rights they take for granted they’d change their tune. Thank young folks for taking the time to learn the story behind this storied song.
If you look up the Battle of Baltimore, you'll see that this video is almost a complete fabrication. Only the most basic details are true, that Key was there, that a battle was fought. But there was no pile of dead men holding up the flagpole. Only four people died in the bombardment, one of whom was a woman. It wasn't the "entire Royal Navy", that's just ridiculous. It was a small-ish fleet that bombarded the fort from maximum range (where their guns were at their least effective) as a distraction for a ground skirmish happening elsewhere. When it became clear that the fight on land wasn't a winnable one, both the British troops and fleet effectively shrugged and moved on to more important targets, both sides taking minimal losses. There weren't any prisoners that Key "breathlessly passed word to", that was pure fiction. The only prisoner involved was a doctor by the name of Beanes who had already been released by the British before the bombardment began. Beanes and Key were on their own vessel at the time, which under the terms of the truce they had with the British flotilla was not allowed to leave until combat operations were concluded. This entire "battle" was basically nothing. Literally the only reason a petty skirmish like this is even remembered outside of the footnotes of dry military history textbooks is because Key wrote the "Star Spangled Banner" about it. While there are many awesome and amazing moments in American history, this really isn't one of them. Don't let liars and con-men like the pastor from the recording feed you historical falsehoods. Read up on the real story whenever you can.
Yeah Mockery isn't good... I trust you wasn't.. not intentional anyway but was toeing the line for most. I'm sure the comments will let you know. Can't wait for another Vid! I've seen a lot of reactions to this Video and the comment section can be brutal time to time for sure.
I am a very patriotic American and am proud of the events that took place on that day. Having said that. Y’all shouldn’t be so disdainful of the UK for what they did back then. One of the worst things about modern society is the application of modern standards and morals to times in the past. It was a much harder time that absolutely needed harder men doin harsh things.
As an American, born and raised, I can proudly say I am proud of my heritage and my country.l I have visited and lived in other countries and I am always so happy to stand on American soil again! Also, your right hand goes over your heart.
I am an American. I love my country and my flag. There are moments and events in our history of which I am not proud, but this is my country and I will defend it to the death. There are things about my country I think are wrong and need changing but I will never leave it - never abandon it. I will work to improve it because if I leave how can things change? My love and commitment is a choice - not because of how great I think my country is (large, powerful, etc) but because it is my home. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” Lastly, I also love our brothers and sisters across the ocean in the UK. You are an amazing place and people - so rich in history and cultures and courage. I am proud to call you all allies and friends.
Our flag will fly. In any battle under any sky, even if it takes our men and women to die. We will keep our heads high. The statue of the men dying to keep the flag raised in WW2 was a testament to this. To the Star Spangled Banner. And to the freedom of our men and women.
I would guess that you are referring to Iwo Jima, the flag was raised on Mount Suribachi to signify that the mountain was secured - AFTER Japanese resistance had stopped. That image stands on its own, and has absolutely nothing to do with the Battle of Baltimore in 1814, because no one in Fort McHenry died holding up the flagpole. There were only 28 casualties in Fort McHenry, 24 wounded and 4 KIA, and of those 27 were over 100 yards away from the flagpole and occurred in the same instant when a single broadside from a frigate dismounted 2 cannon, mortally wounding 3 and wounding 24. This video is so wrong about so much that it's almost pure fantasy.
That flag flies in the hearts of every free man no matter where you are. We have forgotten that. England fought the powers for freedom from the royal court, yet they have given it over to outsiders. The choice is still there. Thank you for your heart felt expression.

People like your mother are often the best Americans

This is why some people get so upset when others (even Americans) say - "Why care about a flag, pledge allegiance to it, get angry when it's on the ground, or disrespect it. It's just a flag." It's much more than just a flag to those who know. Great reaction. Thanks.

Like Santayana, I fear that this will doom us to eventually repeat these mistakes.

do not forget though, that while England did take a stand against slavery eventually ; they were major slave traders for a century or more, to the colonies, and especially to the islands in Caribbean they stole, and used slaves. to do all the farming and sugar and rum production, for hundred years. They divorced. themselves from the practice, in good faith (and as they did not need the labor back home); but helped to start the whole process in the first place. Heads up from an American - you wouldn't feel that way about England if you had lived during WWII, especially if you were in or around London during the Blitz. You should watch the movie "Mrs Miniver" with Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon.

Fort McHenry. Key had nothing to do with the other prisoners.

Britain and France were the two perennial powers in 1812.
The most famous of these was the USS Constitution, she sank or captured five warships of the Royal Navy - she is still on active duty to this very day and can still sail under her own power.
sorry only 3 frigates were 44 gunners, 24-pound cannons, the other 3 frigates, wore 38 gunners, with 18-pound cannons as standard frigates
and to this day, the US Navy has a special reserved forest to keep an maintain the USS Constitution with.

It was the United States that declared war on Britain then tried to annex the British territory of Canada

1775-1815 ... GB was a fighter. Fought first for our rights as Englishmen ... later for our rights as Americans.
Our Flag Represents Our Fallen Patriots & Servicemen .. This is why we get so upset when people Burn it, take a knee to it, or Disrespect it in anyway 😢 Even though they have a right to do so 😢 But I bet Our Fallen Patriots would be the first to Defend them & their Freedoms that we all take for Granted 😢
❤GOD Bless you all my Sister's & Brothers from other Mother's I ❤Love you all .. In ❤JESUS name i pray 🙏Amen. 😗💋😍😊🇺🇸🙏😇👍
The 🇺🇲 National Anthem is so poetic
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
That flag never touches the ground.
You need to look at a map. The Potomac is nowhere near Baltimore. The British easily reached Washington DC by another route, and burned it.
Visitors often wonder why Americans fly so many USA flags at our houses. This is exactly why, when we fight, we win and honor our dead. We were forced to be a warrior society to defend our right to exist.
No it wasn’t Americans start to fly the flag from there homes during the civil war
You can still see the flag today. It is preserved in the Smithsonian museum in Washington DC battle damage and all.
The flag at the Smithsonian did not fly during the battle and was not damaged in any way by the British. That flag was raised the morning after the battle. The holes you see are from the commander of the fort illegally selling pieces of the flag after the battle.
Its not just Britain, alot of foreigners that visit our country are shocked at how many flags they see
Nobody displayed flag the way Nazi Germany did. The proliferation of a nations flag is the first mark of Fascism. Patriotism is still the last refuge of a scoundrel. In America, you can now add the sect of Evangelical so-called Christians.
You both need to watch this anthem sang at a sports event, then you will get a feeling of how we Americans feel about our anthem.
England, France and Spain were the superpowers
The USA said hold my beer.😂
Portugal was a powerhouse back in the day also!...from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 👋🤠
Yep,!! AND Britain was fighting Napoleon on the Continent at the same time.
The bridge named after him was just involved in that horrific container ship accident in Baltimore this past week. That flag is on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Wash.
The UK is close to most Americans. We stand with you now
many parts of the US are rainy and cloudy for months of the year, but we love it,it ensures everything is green and beautiful year round, never dreary, always new growth ,and the most peaceful nights of sleep listening to Gods blessing of rain on your roof, the beautiful trees, luscious gardens of fruits and vegetables, rivers filled with fish, farms with beef, lamb, pork, chickens, rain provides life!
My family has been here since 1637 in America. I am very proud of that fact. They came from England but Irish and Welsh and Scandinavian and Scottish
Don’t give up 🇺🇸
I was a cub (boy) scout leader and one thing I taught my guys was how to correctly fold the American flag properly and we learned about the flag facts at the same time.
I celebrate the life and sacrifice of US Air Force Aaron Bushnell who refused to violate the constitution by participating in the war crimes being committed in ongoing jen oh side. RIP.
Remember it's your right hand that is placed over your heart not your left.
17:19 You should have let the video play to the end. That prayer you skipped has a part in the story as well.
When I was about 6 years old (1954-55), I was dragging the flage on the. A couple of older kids emphatically explained that I should never let the flag touch the ground. I learned early. Back then The Depression and WWII was fresh for a lot of older people. It was a much different world than today.
Thanks Yass&Fats!
Hello Yass & Fats, This is my first time sitting in with you today, I enjoyed the time I spent here with you so I subscribed and left a like for you while I was here! Lovely reaction! You are honorary Americans now!
Love watching these. America does has its problems. I can’t speak for everyone but I really do feel the majority of us Americans love America and would die for the flag. Just to think the war was all over taxes, and now we are dang near taxed to death. Lol the irony
This was NOT the revolutionary war. It was the war of 1812. The Brits had already lost the war to the US.
Love how so many other countries know the USA's anthem but barely recognize their own! Love this country and the pride it even spreads to people! Thank you for your reaction guys!! love every minute! You should react to the performing of the national anthem by Chris Stapleton!
In the war of 1812,the Brits burnt down The White House
Actually it was the Canadians
It blows my mind to find out how many British people are unaware they ever had a war with the US 🙄wow
Europeans love to call us Americans ignorant and uneducated about the world. But it astonishes me that you guys barely know your own history. In our history classes, we study the UK france spain Portugal Norway, Sweden.Finland Extensively to understand our own history. Sorry i don't know every small village in france but we can talk about your Monarchy and pre democracy state for hours😂
I lived in England from 1970 through 1974 as a kid. The English people were extremely patriotic back then. Just 25 years after winning WW II, there was still a great feeling of national pride. I don't know what happened to y'all over the last 50 years, but you have a beautiful country, rich in history. They must not teach it in school anymore. By the way, it only rains twice a week there... (once for three days and once for four days). Great reaction, you two.
Thats why we cant let the flag touch the ground ever !
Stop with this lie. This has nothing to do with the flag code which wasn't enacted untill more than 100 years later.
We stopped Hitler. We stopped Japan. As a proud american veteran, WE WILL NEVER EVER SURRENDER TO ANYONE!
I was born in the USA. But our greatest heritage was from Great Britain. I truly enjoyed watching you two and always wanted to visit your country, but was never able. Thank you for this beautiful video and your reaction! ❤
Yall are so cute and british. The left hand over the heart floored me 😂
They need to watch The American Revolution by Oversimplified
A good video. But it has nothing to do with the events described in this video.
We were not colony in 1812.
You cut the video off too soon. There was a Bible verse at the end that you missed. Don't cut your videos off so quickly. Watch the entire thing.
You should do the red white and blue song by to y Keith
Read up on the real story whenever you can.
you never stop our star spangled banner to talk!!!!!!!!!
Yeah Mockery isn't good... I trust you wasn't.. not intentional anyway but was toeing the line for most. I'm sure the comments will let you know. Can't wait for another Vid! I've seen a lot of reactions to this Video and the comment section can be brutal time to time for sure.
This is why tears fall from my eyes every time I hear our national anthem.
"Our Flag Does Not Fly Because the Wind Moves It, It Flies With the Last Breath of Each Soldier Who Died Protecting It."
THE FLAG NEVER TOUCHES THE GROUND !!!
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
Lastly, I also love our brothers and sisters across the ocean in the UK.
