You can tow a lot more if you have brakes on the trailer and a weight distributing hitch. And the payload can be exeeded fairly easily as long as you still have some suspension travel on the rear, but you will have to go slower and have more tact with the steering.
I have a 2016 as well and it's a monster. I've got it up to about 460hp, I added cab lights, an AWE exhaust, replaced both bumpers with heavy duty steel ones and light bar, added a winch, running boards, 35" tires, 4" BDS lift for the air suspension, a diablo tuner with a 93 octane tune, and a lot more. And it's still WAY cheaper than a TRX.
The rock rail can take half the vehicle's weight because if you're resting on one rail, you're probably resting on the other rail as well. Two rails, two halves of the vehicle's weight...the rails together can support the whole vehicle. I can't think of a way to place the whole truck's weight on one rail alone.
I'm disappointed in what you get for 91K. It's an off road truck, where is the winch and the air pump so you can air the tires up and down. Where are the integrated LED flood lights? No aux, fuel tank?
I don't mind it and I'm a new owner but one day during a 3 point turn or something I will be looking in reverse and accidentally change the A/C settings and not the shifter and will shoot forward.
Buy the rebel, save the 35k and buy a can am maverick. You can send one of those over a 50 foot jump and it will still keep going. Bet the trx can't do that
I like how undderated and purposeful the Rex looks. It’s not over the top like everyone thought it would be it’s just a nice clean truck with no tacky chrome. It’s going to age well when it gets beat up a little
Great video guys! Love how you guys dive into all the details. Luckily whoever can afford a $100,000 truck, can also afford a Gucci warranty. Four or five years from now, there’s a lot of tech to go awry😳
I bought a rebel last night with quite a few bells and whistles on it air shocks super large sunroof, quite a few more, it can only tow 7200lbs I found out. When I first went to the dealer, they told me it could take 12,000, it was listed for $78,000 but I got an outdoor price for about 63 I was looking at a TRX actually a few and they ranged from $120,000-$135,000 So I could’ve bought two of these reels for the cost of one TRX I traded my jeep gladiator in which I have the Mojave edition and I will definitely be able to go 55 mph in 4 low. The falcon tires, mud edition actually were great in snow, so I’m a little worried living here in Summit county, how these wranglers will do in snow that came on the rebel. I drive to Colorado Springs from Dillon all the time and I’m gonna be towing a 2000 pound horse a 2 horse trailer, and once in a while, a regular size horse altogether, which will put me around 6000 pounds before loading people in tack and that kind of stuff so hopefully I didn’t screw up by getting this truck instead of the Toyota tundra or the regular 1500 that can tow more. This looks so much like a TRX to me that I took my chance Hopefully I don’t miss my jeep too much. The gladiator was pretty cool.
Hmmm, some people spend more than $35k modifying their truck so why not offer it all up with a factory warranty and financing? It’s definitely an option. I’d probably still go for the Rebel though because I’d most likely haul and tow more than jump. 😁
I love both trucks but for $30k+ I’d get the rebel and put a suspension system on their from ICON or Carli and add the 35s. Then I’ll add a new exhaust system and cold air intake and it’ll sound just as good as the TRX and be taller and arguably as good offroad capable. Add a winch and other offroad recovery gear and goodies and it’ll be better equipped and probably $10k less expensive. I’ll stick to my 3rd gen which only has one drive mode “thru and over anything” 😎
I’ve got a front facing camera in my ‘19 Limited. This isn’t the first time someone has said that Ram doesn’t have a front camera option, but they do. Not sure if it’s on the rebel, but it does exist in their lineup. You can also lock the diff with in 4-high. Maybe in 2wd as well. I’ll have to try that
The 2021 Rebel also has the front facing camera, heads up display, and more. I think it has everything now? Except the ventilated seats which is a real shame...
I'd choose the TRX, nothing against the rebel but the TRX is better with everything besides towing and cost and I personally have a heavy duty diesel so don't need it for towing
That’s what you say until you realize that the rebel is closer to 40k with incentives and the trx will have little to none, if anything it’ll probably have mark ups. You’re more likely talking 75k vs 40k in the real world.
And no complaints about the price unlike and probably lemoned Defender. The TRX is halo truck for FCA. More than likely have the reliability of Fiat or LJR in case you think I'm biased.
The GEN3 RAPTOR out performs the TRX in every category now... Except power to weight ratio... GEN3 weighs 888 lbs less than the 6,396 lbs TRX. The GEN3 RAPTOR needs to add 154 HP & 50 lb-ft to be on par in this department. But would still be more nimble. GEN3 RAPTER Needs 604 HP & 560 lb-ft to equal the power to weight ratio of the TRX Current Known Numbers: HP450+ Torque: 510+lb-ft 12.24 lbs/HP 10.8 lbs/lb-ft Curb Weight: 5,508 MSRP: $55,455 est TRX HP 702 - Torque: 650 lb-ft 9.11 lbs/HP 9.84 LB/lb-ft Curb Weight: 6,396 MSRP $69,995
Actually, fun fact, idk about the US but in Europe you can have a front facing camera since the facelifted 4th gens (2013? 2014?) you have an extra app for the front cam under apps and can set it to come on when you put it in drive and/or when you go under a certain speed. Really handy for parking because the sensors suck. They also have the emergency kit because it's mandatory (including bandaids, scissors, something to smash your window and a fluorescent vest), but it didn't look as cool as this one! The TRX looks so cool. If you have the choice I wouldn't get the suede armrest and steering wheel though. I also noticed it has 2 blank buttons? Not sure what they're for but don't expect it at this price range. The only think that's a little bit of an eye sore for me is the Fiat gear selector lol... anyways this truck is no match for my wallet haha, will always be a dream!
Actually if they were going for a “scat pack” style ram I would imagine it would have the engine of the trx with out the wide body lol. The whole scat pack line is more aimed toward budget friendly performance.
Those aren’t beadlocks boys, 17k would buy you a pro charger kit for the 5.7 add 180 hp and fox 2.0 shocks which would get you to a similar suspension set up. TRX is a more beautiful package but a supercharger and suspension aren’t difficult to upgrade
How about installing a harrop supercharger on the rebel's 5.7 hemi & run on regular fuel unlike the 6.4 hemi which runs on premium fuel ? The pcor guys in Australia did that And then the rebel will be much faster. They got around a100 horses and 300 lbft of torque over stock on dyno .You still save over $20k.
So the side by side will run you about 30k so they balance out on price if you have to buy a toy and trailer and with the trx you just buy the truck and call it a day
For me the choice was easy. I wanted the biggest and baddest truck on the market. Also, I did not want to be driving a Rebel and wishing I was in a TRX. However, both are great trucks.
You could get a badass suspension system on the Rebel 5.7L from BDS or IVD and get 85% of the performance the TRX. The Hellcat motor would run $15k + installation. You wouldn't have the beefy frame and axles. I'd go with the TRX.
So how much of this behemoth is still going to be functional when the warranty wears out? Not saying I don't like what they've done with this truck, but FCAs don't have the best long-term track record. I suspect owners will be paying a mint in addition to the note for repairs long after the factory warranty is gone and dusted. Aside from the fancy electronics and some model-only features, I don't see 35K of upgrades that a competent dude couldn't do for a fraction of the bucks.
You’ll be fine. You sound like you’ll do your maintenance. The type of people bitching about reliability are the same people that don’t do routine maintenance. Hell, a Toyota goes to shit if you don’t do maintenance. Trust me, I found out the hard way as a kid.
@@haroldbeauchamp3770 I happen to have a highly reliable Tundra. =D The tolerances are really the difference between the old 'drive til they die' Toyotas that people would change the oil once every blue moon after they hit 200k because of all the engine sludge filling up the slop, and the ones that will last forever today because they really are made with such fine QA.
@@C-M-E agreed. I have a 2018 Sequoia. I have a leaking rear differential and a ticking engine that drives me crazy, but Toyota refuses to fix it. My a/c compressor has gone out twice in 2 years. I do all my maintenance at the dealer and feel that this crap shouldn’t happen. My parents bought me a Toyota truck just like the one on Back to the Future when I graduated from high school. I never changed the oil, the differential fluids, etc. The engine locked up at under 30k miles. I learned a valuable lesson on maintenance that day.
@@haroldbeauchamp3770 Sorry to hear about the hard lessons my friend! I've fixed enough of my own cars and other peoples' that it's just easier that I do as much as I can myself until I run into an issue that outweighs the ability of my driveway. The rear diff is just a seal that, honestly for a 2018, ought not be leaking yet unless you happen to live in either the extreme north, a constantly hot environment and store your vehicle in a temp controlled garage, or you happen to wheel the hell out of your rig off-road. There's cheap 'fixer' products that will seal a leak but I recommend just taking the back cover off and either laying down a new RTV silicone bead after scraping off the old one with a razor, or if you're going to the dealer, I'm sure they have a factory gasket laying around. Other than putting up with the smell and some splashing it's a quick job. A/c compressors rarely die completely on modern/relatively well-built vehicles. What usually happens is they start leaking, or the refrigerant needs a top-up. If you have one that cycles on and off but doesn't blow cold air, try getting a top-up kit. They're cheap, like $30 or so, and come with a can of refrigerant for your era of vehicle ('old' ones might be R134/R22, etc), and a little hose you hook up to your charge port. It's really easy, any fool with two hands could do it. Screw the hose on, turn on your car and cycle your a/c on. Hold down the valve til it goes into the green zone on the dial and you're golden. I do my truck and my wife's car every few seasons as we live in Texas, so a/c gets used A LOT. Your ticking engine is probably lifters that have a fair amount of buildup on the valves. I haven't had that problem on my Tundra (yet-it's still young in mileage by Tundra standards), but adding a lubricant to your engine oil (I know, sounds dumb) will help take the noise out. I've had good luck with Z-max for lifter noise (if you get the kit, it also has a fuel additive), or you can throw some Amsoil products through it too. Ask around at your local parts store, they'll point you to the right aisle. I'd also grab some fuel injection system cleaners while you're in that aisle. If they're on sale, grab a few and dump one in every time you gas up. Get the best one you can afford, though Lucas makes a good injector cleaner that will do the job. The 32oz white bottle with the blue tip let's you do this with one purchase and just squirt in a few ounces after you gas up, repeating until the bottle is gone or the pep in your driving wears off. It's not exactly a miracle in a bottle that fixes heavy carbon build-up like a technician would remove with power tools, but repeating the process over time works well. One other thing you can also do that's slightly more involved is getting a can of Seafoam (same aisle as these other products). They have a few varieties, so depending on how many miles you've racked up, there's one application that does a big removal versus incremental in their line-up. I've had great results from them too, but the big treatment involves a lot of smoke pouring out your exhaust til it burns off. The other is just a fuel additive that doesn't smoke, but takes a few applications.
Honestly, it’s incredible in a lot of ways and fun to look at. - That being said. If money wasn’t an issue, I’d take the Rebel. It’s just better to live with.
I mean, unless you are doing some serious offroading which this truck was built for it really is a waste as a daily driver (although ofcourse really nice). I bought a 2020 Ram Rebel, threw the Mopar exhaust on it, and now it sounds like a beast and gets up and goes much better. Now for the cold air intake! I also bought a 2020 Dodge charger scat pak 392 to scratch that speed itch and still spent less than this TRX.
Neither I would get the raptor not only because I'M a Ford guy but it meets the Rebel and TRX halfway as far as price ($65,000 Raptor)($54,000 Rebel)($92,000 TRX). It also meets them halfway as far as performance (FOX live valve, 35" tires, 450 hp, 510 lb-ft, among other things) Plus I think the TRX looks and is way too big. And the rebel doesn't have enough ground clearance or big tires. I imagine this will sell as fast as... well anything thats around $100k. Just my opinion. Also the raptor sounds amazing with about any aggressive cat back exhaust. It's got that turbo crackle.
Who is stupid enough to pay $91k... more like $100k after taxes and fees for a half ton truck? My guess is probably too many people. Keep in mind that the average household income is only about $50k, if that. C’mon people, it’s a truck, not a house. I do decently well for myself and would still never buy this. Two years ago, I bought a nice 3 year old Mercedes ML350 suv, 32k miles, still under warranty, perfect condition, and paid $29k. It’s paid for too. That’s why I have money in the bank. Enjoy your $90k debt machine..
I must say that payload number is abysmal. It's less than 50 lbs higher than that of a Toyota Camry! For a full size truck that's unreal. You basically can't put anything else in the bed of the truck with 3-4 passengers. Had they made the TRX more practical I think it would have done a lot better. A lot of people buying 3/4 ton + 1 ton diesels could afford this truck as it's practically the same price as a fully loaded diesel HD truck. I personally would trade in my F250 for one of these if it had payload closer to 2k and towing over 10k. but having less payload than a Ford Ranger is a huge disadvantage.
Well, I just have seen northamerican reviews of the RAM 1500 because we don't have them - officialy - out here in europe. But as far as I know there is a 360 camera since 2019 in RAM's available, just not fot the Rebel.
@LA FLAMA BLANCA More like lemons. Every 30k miles you need to do a lifter swap in the hemi. If you hear the tick you need a cam. Every one uses the rollers lifters, but only the hemi ones fail. Why can't they get this right?
I am happy to note that they downplayed the "Catfish" grill. I don't find it anywhere as off-putting as the Rebel and Power Wagon. Still not as good looking as the Laramie models, but an improvement anyway. I still like ;the "crosshair" grill but this is one I could live with.

You can tow a lot more if you have brakes on the trailer and a weight distributing hitch. And the payload can be exeeded fairly easily as long as you still have some suspension travel on the rear, but you will have to go slower and have more tact with the steering.
Imagine when Blaze is fully grown, Tommy would need to do some more lifts to be able to pick him up, lol.
Blaze is going to be stronger than him
I have a 2016 Rebel, and love it. I test drove a TRX, and I would go with another Rebel.
I’d love to see a comparison of the Power Wagon vs the TRX
I know you don’t get them for fuel efficiency, but what is the difference in real world numbers for the 2?
We measured a V8 Rebel at 17.9 MPG. We have not tested the TRX yet. However, it's rated at 14 MPG on the highway.
I've been wanting a rebel but can't stand that dial shifter. Just can't do it. The TRX is bad ass but the price is beyond ridiculous.
I felt the same way but honestly you get used to it, at least I did. 🤷🏽♂️
I don't mind it and I'm a new owner but one day during a 3 point turn or something I will be looking in reverse and accidentally change the A/C settings and not the shifter and will shoot forward.
@@AM-fl4uo I could not get used to that price. 😆
@@jimdangles6359 😂
Its better than old shifters honestly. You get a ton of space not having one. And its easy to use.
Buy the rebel, save the 35k and buy a can am maverick. You can send one of those over a 50 foot jump and it will still keep going. Bet the trx can't do that
How much you want to wager?
you get a more accurate tire measurement horizontally vs vertical
I like how undderated and purposeful the Rex looks. It’s not over the top like everyone thought it would be it’s just a nice clean truck with no tacky chrome. It’s going to age well when it gets beat up a little
Man, I hope so much in a few years those things are available used everywhere
I mean, it’s probably gonna be like a used Hellcat....totally used up at 20k miles, but good luck maybe you’ll find a nice one👍🏼
They will... once the Democrats take petrol ⛽️ back up over $4/gallon
🤯
I want a blue or black one now💙🖤
Great video guys! Love how you guys dive into all the details. Luckily whoever can afford a $100,000 truck, can also afford a Gucci warranty. Four or five years from now, there’s a lot of tech to go awry😳
I like the TRX and would love to replace my 07 TRX4 with a TRX with the 6.4 Hemi.
I bought a rebel last night with quite a few bells and whistles on it air shocks super large sunroof, quite a few more, it can only tow 7200lbs I found out.
When I first went to the dealer, they told me it could take 12,000, it was listed for $78,000 but I got an outdoor price for about 63
I was looking at a TRX actually a few and they ranged from $120,000-$135,000
So I could’ve bought two of these reels for the cost of one TRX
I traded my jeep gladiator in which I have the Mojave edition and I will definitely be able to go 55 mph in 4 low.
This looks so much like a TRX to me that I took my chance
Hopefully I don’t miss my jeep too much. The gladiator was pretty cool.
I installed 3 nostril marker lights in the top of the grill of my RAM 1500 Laramie and called it a day. Seriously, they look great!
Hmmm, some people spend more than $35k modifying their truck so why not offer it all up with a factory warranty and financing? It’s definitely an option. I’d probably still go for the Rebel though because I’d most likely haul and tow more than jump. 😁
Man the ram rebel is making me want a dodge with that interior
I love both trucks but for $30k+ I’d get the rebel and put a suspension system on their from ICON or Carli and add the 35s. Then I’ll add a new exhaust system and cold air intake and it’ll sound just as good as the TRX and be taller and arguably as good offroad capable. Add a winch and other offroad recovery gear and goodies and it’ll be better equipped and probably $10k less expensive. I’ll stick to my 3rd gen which only has one drive mode “thru and over anything” 😎
lmfao! “andre sits at home with his hand on a knob!” 😂😂😂☠️
I’ll have to try that
I can lock the rear diff on my power wagon while in 2wd, not sure if it's the same as the normal trucks.
Tested, works in the 1500 as well.
I know the TRX would have destroyed the Rebel but I was hoping for a race at the end.
The 2021 Rebel also has the front facing camera, heads up display, and more. I think it has everything now? Except the ventilated seats which is a real shame...
Love the burner, just had to put my girl down a few months ago. Keep up the good work boys.
I'd choose the TRX, nothing against the rebel but the TRX is better with everything besides towing and cost and I personally have a heavy duty diesel so don't need it for towing
Well I’d get the $72k TRX not the $91k one, and I’d definitely buy a TRX before I’d waste $57k on only a Rebel.
That’s what you say until you realize that the rebel is closer to 40k with incentives and the trx will have little to none, if anything it’ll probably have mark ups. You’re more likely talking 75k vs 40k in the real world.
@@theprodegypk I still wouldn’t waste $45k on a Rebel. I also wouldn’t pay MSRP for the TRX so the point is moot.
@@josephwhiskeybeale good luck finding TRX at lower than MSRP.
@@theprodegypk not with thoes options. You can maybe get a V6 with no option closer to 40k.
@@koston777 lol don’t worry about it, it’s all about relationships and I have some great ones with Ram 😂😂😂😅
TRX is awesome I love it! I will keep my 16 rebel, my 19 5500 cummins, and buy a hellcat redeye used with low miles one of these days! 😂
I have a 2016 Rebel as well and love it!
I like the TRX, a lot. I always thought I'd be a PowerWagon kinda guy but the TRX is looking real slick.
Our 2021 Rebel Diesel has surround camera that includes a front-facing camera.
I knew it!
All this time, my eyes were required to act as the front facing cameras. smh 🤦🏼♂️
@@motorcyclemichael2182 its for navigating over obstacles without a spotter.
6.2 Hemi with supercharger and wider and bigger rebel, look like Power wagon to me.
And no complaints about the price unlike and probably lemoned Defender. The TRX is halo truck for FCA. More than likely have the reliability of Fiat or LJR in case you think I'm biased.
My local dealership just sold a 2020 F150 King Ranch with 800hp and build for off-road with fox shocks and 35 inch tires for $79,999. It was sweet
It's a ford
YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE TRX ANYDAY, I AM PAYING 115,000 THOU FOR ONE IN CANADA
Jesus... no thanks
GEN3 RAPTER
Needs 604 HP & 560 lb-ft to equal the power to weight ratio of the TRX
Current Known Numbers:
HP450+ Torque: 510+lb-ft
12.24 lbs/HP 10.8 lbs/lb-ft
Curb Weight: 5,508
MSRP: $55,455 est
TRX
HP 702 - Torque: 650 lb-ft
9.11 lbs/HP 9.84 LB/lb-ft
Curb Weight: 6,396
MSRP $69,995
Jury is still out on the TRX let street speed 717 do a creek jump if it drives home I'm a believer.
The TRx tops out at 112/118mph but my 2016 Rebel tops out at 108. Damn
I hope they going to make a “Scat Pack” for the Ram with flared fenders of the TRX but with the 5.7. All Rights Reserved... 😃
Actually if they were going for a “scat pack” style ram I would imagine it would have the engine of the trx with out the wide body lol. The whole scat pack line is more aimed toward budget friendly performance.
Same body with 6.4 out of the scat pack cars
The power wagon has the 6.4L hemi in it
That Rebel is a good looking truck. That TRX is a great looking truck.
Those aren’t beadlocks boys, 17k would buy you a pro charger kit for the 5.7 add 180 hp and fox 2.0 shocks which would get you to a similar suspension set up. TRX is a more beautiful package but a supercharger and suspension aren’t difficult to upgrade
The Rebel also offers the surround view camera for 2021.
Now you can order a Rebel with the surround-view camera system, and it comes with selec-speed for 2023.
"Andre sits at home with his hand on a knob." xDDDDDD
How about installing a harrop supercharger on the rebel's 5.7 hemi & run on regular fuel unlike the 6.4 hemi which runs on premium fuel ? The pcor guys in Australia did that And then the rebel will be much faster. They got around a100 horses and 300 lbft of torque over stock on dyno .You still save over $20k.
I want that monster roll bar/double spare tire mount that was in the concept truck bed.
You will get over the 0 to 60 in like 20 tries and then you can worry about the money you washed down the drain. Rebel for life
What are you talking about? That is the 1 thing any car/truck guy never gets over... Enjoy both but don’t live in denial my man
The hellcat engine is$15,000 by itself so that's where most of that$35,000 extra price tag comes from
So the side by side will run you about 30k so they balance out on price if you have to buy a toy and trailer and with the trx you just buy the truck and call it a day
Good Grief what A sweet gig. Play with all the new toys !
Matching outfit with Blaze. Great production value!
FYI, the 21 rebel does have 360 camera and a forward facing camera when offroading.
For me the choice was easy. I wanted the biggest and baddest truck on the market. Also, I did not want to be driving a Rebel and wishing I was in a TRX. However, both are great trucks.
I'll buy the 392 Jeep before either of these trucks. I have a 1500 Ram already which I have made into a adventure truck.
the trx is not competition for the raptor. it costs over 20k more.
Trx all the way
Already ordered one 😍😍🔥🔥🔥🔥
Gotta give Tommy a little more credit for all of those zingers.
This thing is hilarious 1 mile a gallon off road and 9 on. I love it!
Hummer stats
For that kind of money get a Cummins 4x4. All this boutique stuff really limits what can be done.
@LA FLAMA BLANCA More like lemons. Every 30k miles you need to do a lifter swap in the hemi. If you hear the tick you need a cam. Every one uses the rollers lifters, but only the hemi ones fail. Why can't they get this right?
Yeah, $35k gets you a REALLY nice side by side and trailer.
The Rebel should come with a Borla exhaust like the Scat Pack and Hellcat
I am happy to note that they downplayed the "Catfish" grill. I don't find it anywhere as off-putting as the Rebel and Power Wagon. Still not as good looking as the Laramie models, but an improvement anyway. I still like ;the "crosshair" grill but this is one I could live with.
I'd get the Rebel. What's the point of having a truck that can't haul?
I think TRX is made to haul ASS.
Haul it with your duramax 😀
