I've always loved this song, being an Australian kid of the 80s. It's just cool, straight rock n roll, played and sung the way it should be. And Ms Amphlett was the right kind of vocalist. She was unforgettable.

It had nothing to do with that! Chrissy said that on stage she could take on a different persona to her quiet/regular life off stage. The stage allowed her to express a different side.

This is from the 1982 movie Monkey Grip, which starred a young Noni Hazlehurst, with Chrissy Amphlett playing a minor role. The movies director discovered the Divinyls playing in a Melbourne pub and signed them up to do the music for the film and play the roles of band members. It was the first recording contract for the band, and the soundtrack was probably more successful than the film itself. I think the song itself, written by Chrissy, is part biographical, relating to when she was arrested for vagrancy (busking) while travelling in Spain in the 70s (she was imprisoned for 3 months). Please do more Divinyls! You could try Science Fiction, selected by APRA as one of the top 30 Aus songs of all time. Or really just about anything by them Chrissy was an amazing talent.

Divinyls - Awesome live, brilliant studio. Recommend - Tempremental, Siren, Make You Happy (cover of the Easybeats classic) Science Fiction.
Sadly, Chrissy Amphlett is no longer with us, she passed away in 2013. Burned like the brightest star, truly an amazing entertainer. Divinyls music is tattooed into the Australian psyche, they were part of the massive Aussie pub rock genre throughout the 1970's, '80's & 90's where you absolutely had to be brilliant live to be successful because so many bands had cut their teeth playing pub gigs night after night, only the best stood out.

she died of Brest Cancer, she could of bean treated with a high degree of success, except she had MS and the Cancer Treatment would have reacted with her MS treatment and killed her, if she had of gone off the MS Treatment long enough to take the Cancer Treatment the MS would have killed her. If they had of caught the Cancer sooner they could have used a Treatment plan that wouldn't have reacted with her MS treatment.

Great reaction guys and if it's more Aussie music you're chasing, well just like nightwish, that's a whole different rabbit hole. Science Fiction by the Divinyls is another one worth listening to. Pretty much everything by the Angels but a couple of suggestions could be 'Long line', 'Looks like it's coming down on me' or 'No Secrets'. You could listen to 'Kick', 'Falling down the mountain' or 'Don't Change' by INXS. Jimmy Barnes is also another Aussie artist who might be worth a look as someone who does some rockin' tunes, 'Working Class Man', 'Ain't no second Prize' or 'Driving Wheels' might be a good place to start with him. Going a bit more recent, check out Powderfinger, they have some awesome tunes. 'On my mind' is a banging song and 'On a day you come' is pretty quirky. Bernard Fanning (the lead singer of Powderfinger) did a solo album and 'Wish you well' was probably the pick from that album. That will get you started at least. We have so many good artists here in Oz but being so far from the rest of the world, we unfortunately get to enjoy them in isolation. Some other artists to check out could be Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, Icehouse, Dragon, Psuedo Echo, John Farnham or Vanessa Amorosi. Would love to see more Aussie content and I would also be interested to get your opinion on other music that I grew up with. cheers from Australia and keep up the fantastic reactions.

And the hairstyle is a Dolly Cut which was popular in the 70's in the UK and Australia, BEFORE the Pretenders or the Diviynls were a thing. Totally agree. What a treat that you got to see them before she passed away. - G

Chrissie Amphlett was a pioneering rock chick. She was sexual but cool as hell and always in control.

I loved Chrissie in her school girls uniform . She makes you feel torn between feeling lust for her ,but then you feel guilty because she's like this abused child at the same time . She's one of the original bad girls , and we lover her for it.

So sad Chrissie died young from breast cancer, she used I Touch Myself as song to get women to check themselves out. Great rocker .

If you like straight forward Aussie rock, you will probably like The Baby Animals (One Word), Jet (Are you going to be my girl), Powderfinger (On my mind). Do yourself a favour and listen to them.
