Great reaction to this. You were spot on with the feel of this. I think I have 3 Divinyls records and they were well played. Love Chrissy's voice in this. Rest in Peace you little Aussie battler.
"I Touch Myself" wasn't close to being Divinyls biggest song in Australia, and I'm surprised that it was a hit in North America. "Boys In Town" is their most iconic, but this is my 2nd favourite.
Love your Aussie selections! Divinyls are one of my favourite bands! CA was incredible to see live. So much sex appeal, so much heart and grunt, yet so soft. An incredible performer.
You've already played my favourite Divinyls song All the boys in town my next one would be Pleasure and pain . I saw them live god knows how many years ago Chrissie wore a schoolgirls tunic that was super short with black lace stocking and 6 inch heels (not that I noticed) and gave a great performance , I will admit to being a tad distracted but I remember it as if it were yesterday and when I do think about that night I do so with a big grin on my face
Thanks for playing and commenting on this one. BACK TO THE WALL captures Chrissie's quiet intensity but guitarist Mark McEntee is often overlooked and he was a very important element of Divinyls. Lyrically, this is typically Chrissie, and yes, you're right, it's a bit of a threat with some desperation, and quite ironic too because after this she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and then a few years later with breast cancer. It was way too much, no one deserves even one of those illnesses, but she embraced both bravely despite the MS really inhibiting what was possible with her cancer treatment. I think you might like HEY, LITTLE BOY which is a cover of Hey, Little Girl. That's another sassy one for you, Ginger but Mike will enjoy it too. The single for it came out in red vinyl.
A little history, Chrissy's cousin was a successful singer here in Oz, her name was Little Patty. Before my time, she use to entertain the troops in Vietnam, that long ago!!
On a further tangent, the film Danger Close, starring Travis Fimmel (AKA Ragnar in Vikings), which is about the battle of Long Tan, recreates a concert by Little Pattie where she's entertaining the Aussie troops, but which they then abandoned and evacuated her due to the battle nearby. I think she was 17 at the time.
Probably my favourite Divinyls songs would be Pleasure and Pain and Elsie (the latter best seen live). Another Aus song you should check out is True Tears of Joy by Hunters and Collectors.
I was lucky enough to see Diviyls in the front row in the mid 90s at the Palace in Melbourne. I never liked I touch myself, you guys have to listen to Siren and In My Life to get the real essence of Chrissy
I was always a fan of Divinyls since their "What a Life" came out. First time I saw them was on SNL, as Chriisy jumped around like a mean school girl. I thought, 'what did I just watch?' Several years back I was searching to find what else they could have done, Chrissy herself, especially. That's when I learned she passed in 2013. I started watching all things Divinyls/Chrissy, and purchased their CD's. To keep a long story short, I discovered the talent this band had was extraordinary, and Chrissy being so beautifully, wildly unique. I can't tell you how many times I've watch the live version of the song 'Tempearmental'. ruclips.net/video/aE_gIlv0WOM/видео.html
Luv this one too! And you guys are a great couple! That's what I luved about her .She delivered with a punch but with this sadness behind somehow. This one really highlights her powerhouse vocals.Sung with so much conviction .
I didn't know Divinyls were from Australia! My relation to them is only marginal, but what I have heard sounds very good. Might have to investigate more... There's maybe a handful of bands/artists from down under that I really like. A current band that have become one of my absolute favourites over the past decade is Parralox, heavily influenced by mainly 80s, but also 90s, synthpop and dance music. Besides their own songs, they have also recorded a lot of covers. An early one is of an Alan Parsons Project song called "Eye In The Sky" which became one of their most successful releases. It has a really nice video too. Link in comment below, if you're interested.
Great reaction Chrissy will be missed a lot. Love the shot of whisky comment Mike and amazing hair Ginger. Please some of the new spiritbox album I would suggest Halcyon . Or some more Jinjer, mediator has a great video with Tatiana wearing some outfits you will both like. Keep up the great work guys.
I saw the Divinyls live at Jinabyne way back in 1987. Great band however unfortunately I was too drunk and I fell asleep right on the stage at Chrissy Amphlett's feet. When I woke she was making gestures with the mic stand and pointing at me. I was going through some difficult issues at the time. Chrissy Amphlett is a genuine Rock n Roller and they are the rarest of creatures. Courageous, creative, original and empowering. RIP.
Hi again, please do a Canadian songstress who really made it in big & probably only in Australia. Wendy Mathew’s, I don’t want to be with nobody but you. An oldie but a great song you guys will appreciate.
Even though this is not necessarily my music, I enjoyed the video very much. Your dress is beautiful, Ginger. It almost looks a bit bridal. 😊 Mike, magically the black hole in your midsection has vanished! 😮 🤣
I'm not sure when Chrissy found out she had MS but it might have been around the same time as this song. The lyrics would indicate so. If you put it in that context it hits harder. This is their best song IMO and grows more as the years go by. I remember it back in '88.
Chrissy from the Divinyls could of been Chrissie Hynde's from "The Pretenders" sister...same haircut , attitude and sound from that era and nobody that I have heard has even shown that obvious comparison except you guys in other videos of her that you did
A lot of Aussie bands suffered from the curse of being seen as curiosities in the US and consequently only having a few of their songs known over there, when the were often quality world-class bands. With that pout, Chrissy was the 1980s evolution of Debby Harry. In my opinion, this song is so magnetic because it is her signature song and says so much about the person she was. If you're looking to get into more Aussie music, a great jangly guitar song is Golden Age by Midnight Oil. ruclips.net/video/nUKcE0W5rkQ/видео.html
Thanks guys for such great, entertaining reactions. Boys in Town will always be my fave Divinals song, but Hey Little Boy would be next. Here is a link if you'd care to check it out. Oh, and Chrissy is really sassy in it!!! ruclips.net/video/3mH_CLnCDzg/видео.html

"I Touch Myself" was a big hit in the U.K. Nothing else charted, which is unfair on "Only Lonely" and "Boys In Town".
This is probably my favorite Divinyls song! I first heard this song in "Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master"
Love your Aussie selections! Divinyls are one of my favourite bands! CA was incredible to see live. So much sex appeal, so much heart and grunt, yet so soft. An incredible performer.
Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi ...loving your reactions to our beautiful Chrissie ...10 years gone RIP
Perhaps the one you are trying to think of is Sleeping Beauty. Great group back in the day and Chrissy (RIP) never disappoints ❤️🤘🎸🇦🇺

There were times when I was so down
I listened to this so much, it actually helped.
Thanks Chrissy and the Divinyls.
Gingers right eyebrow always flickers up occasionally for a second when there is a part of the song she likes
She was such a unique legend.
That voice
Probably my favourite Divinyls songs would be Pleasure and Pain and Elsie (the latter best seen live).

The junkyard/boat yard was "Sleeping Beauty". Next should be "Pleasure and Pain". Some good Chrissy attitude there.
Best Chrissy attitude is easily "In My Life". That song is her in all her messy glory.
LOVE,LOVE,LOVE this woman. Sooo missed!
Guitar sound is flanging ( very short delay overlayed on the straight signal).
That brought back some memories.
Good one guys. A great Aussie band 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Was that Sleeping Beauty you were thinking of in the junkyard?

You can end the video at about 4:40 if you don't want to see another minute of credits...

Are you ready for Divinyls - Elsie? (live version ruclips.net/video/85hc7wp5rTg/видео.html )

I love the Divinyls. They give me similar vibes to No Doubt.
Probably my favorite Divinyls song too. Love School is another, but Elsie Live is a must watch, and no one has reacted to it yet .

Sleeping Beauty … was the name of the song with Chrissy singing with the band in the junk yard… I still have the 7” single lol 😂
Love this song. I touch myself was probably their worst song imo.

Thank you! It is a little bridal. I love this dress - G
Love it! Please don another Aussie band Noiseworks, the song Touch. All the best from Sydney. Derek
It seems like only yesterday....R.I.P Chrissy 🙏

This is their best song IMO and grows more as the years go by. I remember it back in '88.
You should try "The good die young" that's one of my favourites, along with "Only Lonely" which don't seem to get enough attention.
Check out Something for Kate’s accustic cover of this song, Paul Dempsey knocks it out of the park!
Ginger the junk yard video was Sleeping Beauty I think .. love you guys
Great song! Imagine Chrissy Amphlett in a movie like Fatal Attraction.......I could see it.
Chrissy from the Divinyls could of been Chrissie Hynde's from "The Pretenders" sister...same haircut , attitude and sound from that era and nobody that I have heard has even shown that obvious comparison except you guys in other videos of her that you did
Good Die Young and Only Lonely are my favs
If you want sass from Chrissy, it's hard to go past "hey little boy" and "in my life"
Dragon, Rain 1984 an amazing New Zealand band look them up,
If you want to do classic Aussie then do the band Daddy Cool with "Come Back Again" or "Eagle Rock"
I am the first watching you. Coz U are my favorite you channe 😍l.
Thank you 😊 ❤️ - G

Check out The. Clouds, great Australian band
If you listen again and hook in you'll realise this song isn't sad - it's broody, moody. The undercurrent of something about to give.
Check out...... Love School
Good Die Young
Siren
Bless My Soul It's Rock n Roll
If Love was a Gun
God, there are so many great Divinyls songs
Was it " Sleeping Beauty " peace out.
Please play pleasure and pain by the divinyls

Is it my imagination or does Ginger adopt a slightly more salacious look whenever they review a Divynals track?
😜 - G

Thanks guys for such great, entertaining reactions. Boys in Town will always be my fave Divinals song, but Hey Little Boy would be next. Here is a link if you'd care to check it out. Oh, and Chrissy is really sassy in it!!!

I love how sassy she is! - G
is it me or would she have a gorgeous country voice?
