I bet that's true - I read up on the backstory some. Interesting folks, let's go with that. No disrespect in any way - Just lots of side drama. I can see how that could come out on stage. Take care, all our best!
I was lucky enough to see them when they came to the States. It was an amazing concert. R.i.p. Chrissie Amphlet Your voice was unique, and you aremissed. When I saw them, it was in club of 1200.
One of the things that made Chrissie the rock goddess she was ….is she didn’t shy away from the tough topics. Still missed. 🎸⚡️🤘🏼💋❤️ she has a book…pleasure and pain. Excellent
I think these words are the key in the song. “Break my body with the back of your hand, Doesn't make sense from where I stand, Baby, baby why you wanna mess it up, Sooner or later I'll find my place, Find my body better fix my face”. Says it all, where does it tip over into something else. Chrissie was awesome bold and fierce.
Adore Chrissy, fabulous talent. Having read her Autobiography would have to say Chrissy never took a backwood step from anyone and was never a victim..... except from unscrupulous music exes. .
Part of the controversy was Chrissy developed a demented school girl stage persona which was a lot more to the for in her stage performance than in the videos, also it was a partially that she was accused of ripping off Angus Young's from ACDC school boy look. Chrissy wasn't shy about talking her problems with drugs and alcohol or her tumultuous private life and gave a couple very frank interviews in one even describing when nearly dying from a mix of drugs and alcohol she saw and what she described as black angel wings which pushed her to clean her self up. She was a true talent even giving a stunning performance playing Judy Garland in the very successful stage show 'The Boy from Oz'. Taken from us too soon.
Chrissy was an artist, performer and so so smart from interviews and game shows that she appeared on . This video is only a sanitized hint of how Chrissy performed live. So I've heard, they performed at clubs that were full of big tough blokes, and when she went off, they moved back.
Christine lived only a couple of streets away from me. But for a decision from my parents, we could have gone to school together (Belmont/Geelong, Australia) ....sliding doors moments...
I loved the Divinyls worked clubs back in the day, it's not disrepectful to say that Chrissie would push it on stage school girl outfits etc where just part of the act, she'd often go on stage without underware with or without panyhose. If you were in the front few rows it was all on display and she wasn't the first or will she be the last act to urinate on stage. She melted the minds of the "Wowzers" she was a huge talent and awesome on stage
@@jarrodlee1506 My father went to see them a few times back in the day, before they even became big, and after. He told me about the urinating thing, but seemed to imply that it wasn't intentional. He mentioned sets being long and wild, and sometimes, things like this just happen.
Well you better not watch "I touch myself" which they released a couple of years later. Lmao She pushed the limits back in those day but it was all theatrics and nowhere near like the sexualisation of young women today. She died from breast cancer because she couldn't have the chemotherapy required due to being on meds for her Multi Sclerosis.
I started it and I said nope - No disrespect at all, I get how this was ahead of it's time and not anything like what we have now. Very sad and unfortunate with not being able to get the help she needed. It was still good music!
I think it's a bit like the album Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, arguably their best album but written under extreme circumstances. The main thing is to enjoy the great music she left us with ❤ RIP Chrissy Amphlett ❤
The problem with reactions, is they didn't live in that time Women had to be tough in Australia in those days, Chrissie was ahead of her time, context is everything, many males didn't understand her talent, she was amazing, context is everything.
You might think what is it with Aussies and school uniforms? Chrissie here and our legendary Angus Young from AC/DC. 😂😂 The Divynals were a great band. Two excellent songs here. Cheers! 👍 Have you heard Midnight Oil? An Australian Rock band who are very political. Beds are Burning and U.S Forces are a couple to start with. Great songs. I think you might find them interesting. Take care 😊
''Pleasure and Pain'' was not written by anybody in Divinyls. It was written by Australian producer Mike Chapman and American songwriter, Holly Knight. Mike Chapman wrote hits for Suzi Quatro, The Sweet, Pat Benatar, and Tina Turner, and he produced big hits for Blondie, The Knack, and many others. Holly Knight also has an impressive CV. As for the song subject, I can't say whether it's physical or mental or both. I'm not going to contribute to the backlash you're recieving from some other Australians. This song did enter the US Billboard Charts at some modest number. I know a few American Gen Xers and Baby Boomers that remember this song from the 80's. I think they were known mostly amongst the ''college rock'' circuit and MTV audiences. They just weren't as big as Pat Benatar.
I hear you, and as a Channel owner you’ve got to be careful in today’s world, but I think knowing the reality of the subject matter to Chrissie makes it a much more powerful statement. It goes from rock to art. As we’ve begun to grow out of that stupidity (still a long way to go), something like this which people would have given little thought to at the time is now another piece of the puzzle that helps us understand how widespread, sinister, and ingrained it was, and helps give weight to the need to change it for those still suffering and those to come. Don’t mean to get heavy, but it’s obviously heavy subject matter and if this isn’t an appropriate place to think about it and discuss it, where is?
By the way, my comment was made part way through the Pleasure And Pain video where you first mentioned that you’d read a little of the background. It seemed like the knowledge made the song less enjoyable to you from your initial comment (I could have misinterpreted that), but as the video continued and you talked more I could see you’re saying the same thing I did.
No the controversy was over the video I Touch Myself , which was banned on US TV , it was the only song of theirs that broke in the US because it was sexual , no other reason , all their other material was Aussie Punk Rock but US audiences could not get it , another song " Im Jealous "was about their break up ruclips.net/video/qFvwYyqWc7s/видео.html Chrissy always amazing will be forever young forever beautiful

Might be right about it being an urban myth but if she did give the undies a miss I doubt she would've felt degraded by anyone's opinion on that, she wouldn't have given a Fark.
@@oscillatewildly6553 OW I don't think it is an urban myth given her on stage persona. I did happen to know some in the business at that time and according to them back then it was one of her things. I did leave the only show I saw the Divinyls live in but as I've said before it was a Club which probably didn't allow too much licence and I was bored so I left early
