    I think these words are the key in the song. “Break my body with the back of your hand,
    Doesn't make sense from where I stand,
    Baby, baby why you wanna mess it up,
    Sooner or later I'll find my place,
    Find my body better fix my face”. Says it all, where does it tip over into something else. Chrissie was awesome bold and fierce.

    Chrissy was an artist, performer and so so smart from interviews and game shows that she appeared on . This video is only a sanitized hint of how Chrissy performed live. So I've heard, they performed at clubs that were full of big tough blokes, and when she went off, they moved back.

  • @alankohn6709
    @alankohn6709 Год назад +2

    Part of the controversy was Chrissy developed a demented school girl stage persona which was a lot more to the for in her stage performance than in the videos, also it was a partially that she was accused of ripping off Angus Young's from ACDC school boy look.
    Chrissy wasn't shy about talking her problems with drugs and alcohol or her tumultuous private life and gave a couple very frank interviews in one even describing when nearly dying from a mix of drugs and alcohol she saw and what she described as black angel wings which pushed her to clean her self up.
    She was a true talent even giving a stunning performance playing Judy Garland in the very successful stage show 'The Boy from Oz'.
    Taken from us too soon.

    Well you better not watch "I touch myself" which they released a couple of years later. Lmao She pushed the limits back in those day but it was all theatrics and nowhere near like the sexualisation of young women today. She died from breast cancer because she couldn't have the chemotherapy required due to being on meds for her Multi Sclerosis.

    I loved the Divinyls worked clubs back in the day, it's not disrepectful to say that Chrissie would push it on stage school girl outfits etc where just part of the act, she'd often go on stage without underware with or without panyhose. If you were in the front few rows it was all on display and she wasn't the first or will she be the last act to urinate on stage.
    She melted the minds of the "Wowzers" she was a huge talent and awesome on stage

    ''Pleasure and Pain'' was not written by anybody in Divinyls. It was written by Australian producer Mike Chapman and American songwriter, Holly Knight. Mike Chapman wrote hits for Suzi Quatro, The Sweet, Pat Benatar, and Tina Turner, and he produced big hits for Blondie, The Knack, and many others. Holly Knight also has an impressive CV.
    As for the song subject, I can't say whether it's physical or mental or both. I'm not going to contribute to the backlash you're recieving from some other Australians. This song did enter the US Billboard Charts at some modest number. I know a few American Gen Xers and Baby Boomers that remember this song from the 80's. I think they were known mostly amongst the ''college rock'' circuit and MTV audiences. They just weren't as big as Pat Benatar.

    • @Erizedd
      @Erizedd 28 дней назад

      It was because of the sexual theme of Boys in Town and her wearing the uniform. There was nothing sexual about Angus wearing a school uniform. Personally I think it's pretty natural for the 80s, where especially female artists loved to push the boundaries of social exception (Madonna and Cyndi Lauper were two others of the many that did).

    I hear you, and as a Channel owner you’ve got to be careful in today’s world, but I think knowing the reality of the subject matter to Chrissie makes it a much more powerful statement. It goes from rock to art.
    As we’ve begun to grow out of that stupidity (still a long way to go), something like this which people would have given little thought to at the time is now another piece of the puzzle that helps us understand how widespread, sinister, and ingrained it was, and helps give weight to the need to change it for those still suffering and those to come.
    Don’t mean to get heavy, but it’s obviously heavy subject matter and if this isn’t an appropriate place to think about it and discuss it, where is?

    • @sean---the-other-one
      @sean---the-other-one Год назад

      By the way, my comment was made part way through the Pleasure And Pain video where you first mentioned that you’d read a little of the background. It seemed like the knowledge made the song less enjoyable to you from your initial comment (I could have misinterpreted that), but as the video continued and you talked more I could see you’re saying the same thing I did.
