The best frontman to any Aussie rock band,..Chrissie Amphlett was dynamite. Only Lonely, Pleasure and Pain, Victoria, all tracks worthy of investigation,...so many!
Autobiographical song about Chrissy growing up in Geelong, a regional town in Victoria, and wanting to get out of that town...She ended up moving to Sydney and forming Divinyls...Very relatable, the way girls are often treated in country Victoria, growing up...This song always brings me to tears, the way she blames herself for being trapped in such a miserable situation. We miss Chrissy. :(
My dad was pretty interested in Divinyls when they first came onto the scene, because he was a big fan of Chrissie Amphlette's cousin, Little Patti. Patti was the complete opposite. A very goody-two-shoe clean-cut blonde 60's pop singer. When he watched this video on TV, he was appalled that anybody related to Little Patti could front a ''punk band'' (as he put it) and sing about being desperate. As a 13 year old I tried to explain that we're living in the 80's now and it just fell of deaf ears. Anyway, Chrissie won brownie points with my dad years later when she played Judy Garland in the stage musical ''Boy From Oz''. Great reaction.. it's pleasing to see you guys liking it.
The drummer in my (then) band turned me onto The Divinyls with THIS song back when it was first released in 1983... and they were not really known in the US then. I immediately got the album and they have been one of my favorite bands ever since! I even saw them in concert in 1985! Sadly, with Chrissy's passing from cancer in 2013, there will never be more from them... and there will NEVER be another Chrissy Amphlett!!!

What an enigma Chrissy was . The persona of the vulnerable school girl that at the same time oozed sexuality. The song I touch myself became a fantastic public health message in the fight against breast cancer, with her blessing before she died . i always think of this song as their best , but they had quite a few good ones in their back catalog.
I had a big crush on her though she scared me to no end. she wrote this song about the guys that had treated her like rubbish in the 70's. she spotted a couple of the boys in her audience during the rise of Divinyls and she sang the song in their faces and yelled F-off at them after singing the last ''get me outta here'' phrase..

In terms of guitar they decided to generally eschew guitar solos, at least in the traditional screaming lead break approach. Science Fiction, Only Lonely, Sleeping Beauty, Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore (cover), Hey Little Boy (another cover), they're some of the worthy songs from the Divinyls (although this was the one with the most frenetic energy - others are still rocking but they're probably at the same energy level as I Touch Myself, as well as the same attitude). @@simonecharrette9994 OK ! In your opinion !Nothing that the Divynals did was very original ! that was my point ! if you think for a minute Australia was ever out there for music you are having a laugh ! I was out there at the time !it was 10 years behind ! by the way can you name me any French bands that are worth listening to ? no thought not !
@@ghichens3418 10 years behind? You mean Boys In Town is fitting for 1971? Hmmm? So, according to your concept of time, all the Australian music I was listening to in the US in the early 80's was early 70's music?
Let's go through this slowly. Machinations, Divinyls, Kids In The Kitche, Icehouse and INXS were early 70's throwbacks, but Shakin' Stevens and Dave Edmunds was early 80's appropriate?
I've checked a lot of early 80's Australian music - a lot of it seems fine to me. Nothing about it reminds me of the early 70's. The Hoodoo Gurus toyed with the 60's look, but so did many American jangle groups.
I'm not too convince with your conviction. I think you sound a little bitter and defensive.
I can't name any French ''groups'' but I have enjoyed Air and Daft Punk.
You should react to breakout by stiff little fingers they are an Irish 70s punk rock band
I'd like a reaction to Sunnyboys ''Alone With You'' (view the nzoz1981 upload as OnceWas instructed)_
Don't pick on Chrissy's pout, it's not put on she has a natural pout plus she's one of the Coolest things since sliced bread was invented!!
Just a note, (no disrespect meant) band name is just Divinyls, no "The."
Sunnyboys - Alone With You nzoz1981
Oh kay!!!! I just checked this band out, oh my lord, that's one good looking guy singing there.. it's like Any Trouble but they're all good looking.. whats in Australian water to make you people so .. desirable!?
@@BostonAndProud sun, surf, good music
Great band. You got my vote for Alone With You. I was in a surfing competition with Jeremy Oxley (Sunnyboys singer) back in the mid 70's. He kicked my butt, and then was a rockstar a few years later.
@@BostonAndProud lol@Any Trouble but they're all good looking. It's not hard to find anybody better looking than Any Trouble (no offense to Any Trouble). The good looking guy singing is Jeremy Oxley. I knew him back in my surfer days. He was popular with the girls even though he was just 13 or 14. Sadly, he shot his music career short due to schizophrenia. I'm happy to see he is married now and still playing in Sunnyboys.
@@Robbo766 That's cool!!! I heard that Jeremy was a bit of a whiz kid at anything he tried.
4:10... She's not going to get a proper relationship while she still wears a girl's school uniform. 😆
Wrong. Id take her wearing a bloody barrel.
