Chrissy is a GODDESS! No one comes close to her when is comes to audacity, honesty, and bravery. She didn’t go out looking for fights but she would stand her ground if it ever came to her. Off the stage she was articulate and gracious. She had demons, that’s for sure, and she had an intense fear of being vulnerable…..but she is absolutely one to be cherished. Other great songs to listen to are “Temperamental”, “Guillotine Day””, “In My Life”, and the incredible “I’m Jealous”. Often overlooked is the song that was meant to jumpstart a Divinyls reunion and lead off their comeback attempt. Unfortunately that attempt was cut short by a terminal illness. That song is “Don’t Wanna Do This” and must be heard by you, SalvoG and any Divinyls fan. ( BTW, think of the word vinyl……like what records are made of…..and add the “Duh” sound in front of it….then you get eh “Duh” - vinyls.
Pronounced Div (as in division) vinyls. They were an amazing band and so far ahead of their time. The song has not aged at all!! Another great Aussie band.
this song is SO underrated and deserves more recognition. There is more great Australian music like this, you will probably find it hard to come by, you will get recommended this and that, but it won't necessarily be the good stuff.
From the moment I saw this video on MTV in '81 I was in love with Christina Amphlett. This video doest't show how animated she really gets live. I saw them in '86 opening for The Cult and this was their first song. By the time they did their last encore number, "Elsie", I was a puddle in the middle of the floor. RIP Chrissy. You were one of my favorites.
Awesome -- so glad you enjoyed that one. Science Fiction is another terrific song -- a little more on the pop side, but great lyrics. And yeah, Temperamental is another great rocking number. Chrissie was a dynamo on stage. Very cool band. Thanks for the reaction!
My favourite Aussie band by far. Loved Chrissie. I cried when she passed. Check out Only Lonely, Sleeping Beauty, Guillotine Day, Science Fiction, Siren, Elsie, In My Life, Pleasure and Pain, Hey Little Boy, I'll Make You Happy, Good Die Young, Back to the Wall (May recognise from the Nightmare on Elm Street 3 soundtrack), I ain't gonna eat out my heart anymore (Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie soundtrack) and the song that broke through everywhere including the US, I Touch Myself.
Nice to see you enjoying some old time Aussie rock. This was my uncle's band, he's the blonde haired guitarist. Fun facts: he met Chrissie in Sydney while she was a church choir girl. He ran away from home twice at 16 to become a rock musician, Grandpa send my dad over to drag him home, second time he convinced Grandpa to leave him be. In person Chrissie was very shy and quiet, the costume was a way to over come it and perform.
You pronounce their name as Divine- ils. Saw them perform live, opening for The Cult in 1986. They did this song, and Chrissie was that exciting on stage. She actually dumped a bucket of water over her head at the end!
DEE-Vinyls. Chrissy passed in 2013 from breast cancer and MS. They used another of her songs - I Touch Myself - for a breast cancer awareness campaign. One tough chick and a truly great Rock Chick. RIP Chrissy. ❤
Saw Chrissie squat down next to the drum riser and relieve herself mid song at the Hoey Moey in Coffs Harbour one night way back when. Quintessential Rock chick with a capital R. RIP beautiful lady.
Love The Divinyls!!!!! What a good groups!!!!! Chrissy is soooooooo good!!!! The Bee Gees are from Australia!!!! Another good song is "I Touch Myself" by The Divinyls.
This song was autobiographical for Chrissie, about getting out of the town, Torquay, in Victoria, where she would spend time as a teenager...This song always brought me to tears, as you can feel how she would blame herself for being trapped in such a miserable situation and how she was so desperate to escape it. Other great songs of theirs: 'Science Fiction,' 'Pleasure and Pain,' and their big hit 'I Touch Myself.' Other great Australian bands: AC/DC, INXS and more recent ones: Sticky Fingers, Ocean Alley, Lime Cordiale, DMA's, Dope Lemon, Hockey Dad, Skeggs...All formed in the great state of New South Wales, mostly around the Sydney area.
I first saw them at a little pub in Western Sydney, when they were virtually unknown. I thought WOW!!! Try, Only lonely Pleasure and pain Temperamental Punxsie
The name is pronounced like a combination of the words 'divine' and 'vinyls'. Australia had phenomenal music in the 80s, particularly the pub rock scene - you didn't make it in the Australian music scene if you couldn't play live back then. It's hard for people now to understand how isolated our country actually was in the time before the internet (not that this was a bad thing, Australia in the 70s and 80s was an amazing place to grow up!). It was a massive thing logistically for overseas bands to come here, so we were pretty much left to our own devices musically, and evolved our own fantastic music scene (really starting in the 60s) with an incredibly distinctive sound. Divinyls are one of many brilliant examples of that sound!
Australian bands cover the gamut from the swagger of INXS to the political commentary of Midnight Oil and the brooding introspective lyrics of The Church. Even the pop sounds of Little River Band are amazing. All these are worth a listen.
Great Reaction! The entire Desperate album is intense and Rocks out.. John Hughes used "Ring Me Up" in the Sixteen Candles movie soundtrack. "Pleasure and Pain " is another excellent song..
Yes, our (NZ's) Australian neighbours make some great music indeed! 😀👍 One of my absolute favourite clips: Midnight Oil - 'Best Of Both Worlds' , from the Oils On Water live show in '85 [channel: Skitizen] 😊
I have watched at least 100+ of your Reactions to music. I am not sure where to suggest a song/video for you to watch, so I'm doing it here. The singer is Irish born Van Morrison and the song is Into the Mystic.
Brilliant band live (as all Aussie bands had to be to survive) although a lot of the live recordings on You Tube don't do them justice. Suggested tracks - Siren. Their blistering cover of The Easybeats "I'll Make You Happy." "Hey Little Boy." "Guillotine Day." "Temperamental" (there is a good live version of this) And the dark, emotional "Elsie."
Now that you're hooked, you have to do their biggest-selling single "I Touch Myself" (1990), which achieved a No. 1 in Australia, No. 4 in the United States, No. 10 in the United Kingdom (UK), and No. 13 in Canada." The video was nominated for three MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year. With stats like that, you have to react to it.
You should react to Spin Aqua a Japanese Rock band from the early 2000s. They had same vibe as Divinyls. Also the singer Anna Tsuchiya her voice is almost identical to Chrissy’s. Both have raspy smokey vocal. React to Paper Moon or Hippies in the 60s. You gonna love.Rock on!🤘🏻🔥
Please check out 'Siren (Never Let You Go)', 'I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore', 'Good Die Young', 'Back to the Wall', 'Only Lonely', 'Science Fiction'...they're all good. Peace.
Love them - Divinyls (pronounced Deevinyls) Some great Songs. Chrissy was an amazing front woman - Original very creepy and tough on stage. later sexy. this is one of my favorites.
Salvo... you really need to check out our legendary " pub" rock band..Cold Chisel,( with Jimmy Barnes as lead singer) Check out, You got nothing I want Wild Thing, live from The Last Stand concert. You'll be blown away
The production on that Monkey grip EP was one of the best around. It had so many good songs on it. Oh and it’s Div not Dive in Divinyls. They also had Blondies guitarist Jim Destri in their band for a while when Blondie was on hiatus.
I believe you pronounce the letter 'i' in the first three letters 'div' as you would with the word 'dig'...and the name seems to be a combination of the words 'divine' and 'vinyls' (used as a plural form of vinyl records). Vinyl records were the main media that bands sold music back in 1980 when the band formed.
Pronounced de vine als. Basically de and vinyl records. Divinyls. As for other songs. Pleasure and Pain is amazing as is Science Fiction. Sadly we lost Chrissy to breast cancer a few years back. Such an incredible talent and loss. RIP Chrissy.
You may not be aware of this, but on Wikipedia, if you put your mouse pointer on each letter in the pronunciation key (in parentheses to the right of the word), a small pop-up will tell you how to pronounce that part of the word. For example, the first 'i' in Divinyls will pop up [/I/: 'i' in 'kit'].
The one thing that always annoys me when I hear this song is that it ends way too soon! They were very edgy for the early 80s and Chissy really held her own. Aussie bands of the era had some awesome frontmen and Chrissy was right up there with them.
She was a legend. It took both MS and breast cancer to take Chrissie from us. She was so tough.
"Pleasure&Pain" "Temperamental" "I'm Jealous!" She was a Goddess!
Chrissy is a GODDESS! No one comes close to her when is comes to audacity, honesty, and bravery. She didn’t go out looking for fights but she would stand her ground if it ever came to her. My favorite track from them is “Pleasure and Pain” from their 1985 Album “What a Life!”
One of the best 80s bands "pleasure and pain" 🔥 and my favorite "better days"
Omg yes! I'm so happy to see one of my all-time favourite Aussie bands and one of the best female vocalists this country has ever seen.
Australia has an effing LOT to offer, The Divinyls are spectacular, all their musics.
отличная группа, царствие небесное Кристине, помним, слушаем, любим!

Thank you for sharing that was quite interesting.
I love this band! Thanks for listening to them. "Science Fiction" is another very good tune. (RIP Chrissy)
Christie had an amazing stage presence. Exactly like this!
"I ain't guna eat out my heart anymore" is another amazing and underrated Divinyls song!
She was Great
You pronounce their name as Divine- ils. Saw them perform live, opening for The Cult in 1986. They did this song, and Chrissie was that exciting on stage. She actually dumped a bucket of water over her head at the end!
This song is hot and Science Fiction, loved their 80's stuff not so much 90's,But that's me. She is a true Australian rocker and the guitarist fire!

Chrissy Amphlett gives you a physical reaction she’s so powerful
I have watched at least 100+ of your Reactions to music. I am not sure where to suggest a song/video for you to watch, so I'm doing it here. The singer is Irish born Van Morrison and the song is Into the Mystic.

Also covered by Pink and used in advertising to raise awareness for breast cancer
Have a listen to John Farnham “help” with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

Welcome to 1980,s Australia. New wave down under.
Love them - Divinyls (pronounced Deevinyls) Some great Songs. Chrissy was an amazing front woman - Original very creepy and tough on stage. later sexy. this is one of my favorites.

Short I man. George from the states, Chrissy kicked ass in live rock shows in the early days. RIP Chrissy.
I would suggest "Human on the Inside" and "Pleasure and Pain".
Try The Choir Boys , Run to Paradise
yes please :) - I love The Choir Boys. Also check out their song 'Boys will be boys'. Both great songs.
The name is a contraction of divine and vinyls - pronounced div-i-nils
Divinyls "I touch myself " best masturbation tune ever!!!
The production on that Monkey grip EP was one of the best around. It had so many good songs on it. Oh and it’s Div not Dive in Divinyls. They also had Blondies guitarist Jim Destri in their band for a while when Blondie was on hiatus.
@yakidin63 That Blondie guitarist was Frank Infante.
awesome song man !!!

Please react to pleasure and Pain.
There are many Divinyls songs.
Divinyls big hit - ruclips.net/video/wv-34w8kGPM/видео.html (big in the dancers club, wink, wink)
Pronounced de vine als. Basically de and vinyl records. Divinyls. As for other songs. Pleasure and Pain is amazing as is Science Fiction. Sadly we lost Chrissy to breast cancer a few years back. Such an incredible talent and loss. RIP Chrissy.
Powderfinger were good
Doc Neeson
Siren. Short black rock song. Listen to it.
Where can we recommend something for you to react to? Do we just leave you a comment and a link in a comment?
You may not be aware of this, but on Wikipedia, if you put your mouse pointer on each letter in the pronunciation key (in parentheses to the right of the word), a small pop-up will tell you how to pronounce that part of the word.

try divinyls science fiction
Every Aussie guy "liked her"!! Chrissy was HOT!
It’s pronounced Deevinals, good old Aussie band.
I Touch Myself is a ballad compared to this song.
@jodij6280 Compared to most of the songs off "Desperate" and "Monkey Grip".
Divinyls. The pronunciation is a cross between 'Divine' and 'Vinyls'.
The y is pronounced like like the i in dill.
Should've been more successful than they were in the US
The one thing that always annoys me when I hear this song is that it ends way too soon!
They were very edgy for the early 80s and Chissy really held her own. Aussie bands of the era had some awesome frontmen and Chrissy was right up there with them.
"Divinyls" is pronounced similarly to "Divine"
It's pronounced "Divine-alls"
I think your fans are ready for strange German band Donna Regina..I'm addicted
Deee lite told me about Donna Regina
