Divinyls formed in 1980 fronted by lead singer Christina Amphlett. After scoring several gigs in pubs and clubs, they were discovered by Australian director Ken Cameron, who was in the midst of making the movie Monkey Grip. This discovery led Divinyls to providing the entire soundtrack for the film and also offered Amphlett a supporting role playing a temperamental rock singer based on herself. The song "Boys in Town" was released from the soundtrack as the band's debut single and garnered commercial success when it charted in the top ten on the Australian singles chart. It was the first song that Amphlett and McEntee had written together.
When Divinyls released their debut studio album Desperate in 1983, four of the songs from the Monkey Grip soundtrack were also included, in particular "Boys in Town". However, on the Australian release of Desperate, "Boys in Town" and the other songs previously seen on Monkey Grip were omitted.
Amphlett garnered widespread attention for performing on stage in a school uniform and fishnet stockings, and often used an illuminated neon tube as a prop for displaying aggression towards both band members and the audience. Originally a five-piece, the band underwent numerous line-up changes while Amphlett and McEntee remained as core members, before its dissolution in 1996.
    Info source: en.wikipedia.org
Good quality videos of Divinyls are hard to find. This one is no exception. The only decent one you may be able to get your hands on if you are determined and hunt hard enough for it, is a 'Rage TV' capture from Australia. The quality is excellent on the original capture although there is an inferior "copy of a copy of a copy" doing the rounds and it's not very good. I've got them both. Needless to say I've used the quality capture to upscale to 1080p.
Some cleaning of the image was done to remove bits and pieces of crap. I've decided not to remove some black 'scratches' that came from the slightly damaged video film that was the origin of the digital transfer. They are not very noticeable and adds a kind of 'authenticity' to the age of this old classic from Australia. A bit of sharpening and detail enhancement was also done.
I hope you all enjoy this video upscale. Please share the link with your friends and I hope it doesn't end up being blocked in your country.

Seen them live in Western Australia, fantastic live, unfortunetley it was a Australia and promoters as well as managers never seen the big picture and travel on tours overseas,it actually helps a band a lot to visit other studios and musicians in all parts of the globe,we say here it was a cash grab for managers, only band are Inxs who toured a lot,the story is when Michael was vulnerable at 2 years before his death the actual manager got him to sign over all music rights and so,another unhappy family of M8chael Hutchence they could not pursue the manager, that's just one example here

Great song from a great band! This was (I think) their first big hit. They were “discovered” playing the pub scene in Melbourne and asked to do the soundtrack of a film called Monkey Grip (starring a young Noni Hazzlehurst). Chrissy and the band played side characters in the movie as well as performing the music for the film.
To get a real feel for Chrissy’s stage presence at this time check out something like the song Elsie (live).

WOW - this brings me back to Blue Light discos of the early 80's when i was a young teenager and these were #1 hits. For those who dont know....Blue Light Discos were run by the police (As police car light sirens flashed blue - hence the name blue light disco's) and attended by the police for discos for young teens. A safe place for late night disco's with music screens up high - all the latest hits...and endless soft drinks for the one price. Sadly they discontinued them by the 90's sometime. Nobody sung better nor wore a schoolgirl uniform like Chrissy Amphlett. Amphlett by name, Amped by nature. 10 years gone and sorely missed from the AusRock scene. RIP Chrissy 😢

Chrissy Amphlett was simply Australian pub rock royalty. Her energy and mystique were legendary and the band were tight as a duck's bum live. I last saw the Divinyls circa 1985 in in their natural habitat at the smoky, sticky floor, sweaty Dee Why hotel. We were right up the front, Chrissy was wearing a plastic dress and you could see the sweat running down her legs. She really was something else.
Sadly no longer with us; she survived breast cancer, but then succumbed to multiple sclerosis. We really miss her here and there will never be another like her.
Vale Chrissy, hope you are still making your special style of music wherever you are now ❤

Boys in Town was their debut single in 1981and I'd just seen them a few weeks earlier at The Piccadilly Hotel in Kings Cross, Sydney.
Lead Singer, Chrissie Amphlett was wild and crazy.
Things she did on stage were outrageous and probably illegal.
Found out much later in interviews with her, that it was her Alter Ego up on stage.
She was a quiet and demure woman in reality.
RIP 2013 Chrissie Amphlett The QUEEN of Australian Rock

I roadied for the Divinyls when my brother's band was the support act for them when I was much younger. My brother almost got hit in the head with her/that mike stand, when he was in the audience and tried to look up Chrissy's skirt 🤣🤣🤣
