Chrissy sadly died of breast cancer in 2013, but before she left us she gave her blessing for this song to become the anthem for breast cancer awareness in Australia, and her husband and family established the I Touch Myself Project to that end. So her legacy goes well beyond her music, bless her.
Ginger, I saw The Divinyls in concert here in Australia during the early 90s. At the time, I was a 19 year old guy and I was often told that I looked very young for my age. I was in the front row and had my hands and arms rested on the edge of the stage with Chrissie towering above me. I got a lot of eye contact from her during the song Hey Little Boy. In fact, every time she sung the line "Hey little boy", she would look directly at me. Singing right into my face!
My goodness I had to look at the name in case I had commentated here before, I got almost the exact same story, except one little detail, we all know Chrissy always wore short shirts, next to me was some sort of speaker box, Chrissy proceeds to put one heal on the speaker box, almost directly over my head, I went into shock and embarrassment haha Of course as I was doing at the front of the stage, tried to look up, but saw nothing, the place was way to dark to see anything, my heart still never quite recovered lol I feel creepy recalling this story now though, as I have my own 20 year old daughter, how perspectives change with age lol.
This song was dedicated to and used for breast cancer awareness to get women to do more breast self examinations thus why I Touch Myself RIP Chrissy Aussie Rock Goddess
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. As a red-blooded Ontario boy growing up in the 80s I watched that video 1000s of times between Much Music, Friday Night Videos, Video Hits with Samantha Taylor and recoded it on Beta! To quote Wayne and Garth.. Shawiinnggggg!
Speaking of touching oneself Chrissie had so much sass that she felt comfortable playing a concert in an all male prison in Brisbane! .. thanks for reviewing Divinyls ... RIP Australias' queen of rock❤
Mike and Ginger thank you so much for the trip down memory lane! Mike you are a lucky man to have a confident lady my friend! Those were the days my friends, not sure they could produce a video like this today. Thanks again and God Bless!
"Who could ignore this woman " classic more true words were never spoken. There is a video on youtube of her performing two songs live one is this song, and she is laying down letting the audience feel her suspenders all the men and woman get right into it, she really knew how to put on a show. "Divinyls in concert 1991" I think from memory.
I was 14 when this song came out. I am now 46. Life in Oz. She makes you look like a saint. I could tell you a story about 1 of their concerts. As could another million Australians.
This original video is great and a good live version of I TOUCH MYSELF is one Divinyls did on the Arsenio Hall show, a very Chrissy performance where she role plays the song as was her style live.
They performed it on Top of the Pops UK & Chrissy was made to dress differently & tone down her performance style, and she hated being reigned in! Can’t blame her.
Each of their songs had very catchy unique tunes .she also performed in some musicals.."the boy from Oz" being one of them in which she played Judy Garland.
I've seen this many times ,& I only just realised today the funny part when it first shows the woman bending over showing her behind & at that moment she sings "your the sun that makes me shine ".....lol .😂
Chrissy is greatly missed . Divinyls live was breathtaking! I still think "Girls in Town" was THE greatest rock song ever written in Australia, ever. It is as fun to play as it is to listen to. Kinda like "White Wedding"
If you look up Sassy in the Dictionary there is a photo of Chrissy, She just Rocked out Sassy-ness on stage in her live performances around Australia in pubs and big concerts. She sadly missed in OZ and was the Queen of OZ Rock. She sings a song for Buffy the Vampire Movie: I ain't gonna eat out my heart, it's a Beauty of a song by her.
This was Chrissy, but she had so much more to reveal. Her portrayal of Judy Garland in The Boy From Oz showed what a star she was, all class. Miss you Chrissy xxx
I live in her hometown, and there are two street art portraits commemorating Chrissy, including a two storey mural. In the nearest large city, an hour away, Amphlett Lane is named in her honour.
You guys need to see another Aussie band the Preatures who did a set featuring Divinyls songs, was done live in Sydney in 2015 with original band member. Izzy Manfredi the lead singer is just as sassy. Hope you check it out, they were a great band as well.
Gotta hear her sing Pleasure and Pain....! That video was in heavy rotation on MTV and managed to avoid Tipper Gore's Parental Advisory Explicit lyrics sticker
Great reaction Ginger and Mike. Another video to check out that was just released an hour ago. Lindsey Sterling ' Rage beneath the Mountain'. It is pretty good with an all female band playing. Check it out
The white dress with coveralls was actually her famous schoolgirl costume a short blue what I believe is called a pinafore (don't ask me what I know about fashion could be Witten on a stamp with a crayon) and white blouse
"Pleasure & Pain" is another fantastic song from them! RIP Chrissy Also, a new artist recommendation (and video) for you that might tickle your fancy. BLV's song "Badunkadunk". Super catchy song with a great bass! It'll get stuck in your head. And the video will make you laugh!
Chrissy was a gorgeous woman with a fantastic body that any man would have done anything for to be with. R,I.P Chrissy, you and your beauty is really missed
Man! I can’t believe you just reacted to that song. Excellent song. Do you think you will ever react to Davina Michelle? If you do, blindfold Mike. He will love her! Please react to - Liar (Live Acoustic). I guarantee she will not disappoint. Thanks!
I sometimes wonder what songs ultimately led to Casey Kasem deciding to retire. The songs were great, but hearing him say "Coming in at #17 is 'I Touch Myself'"...? I'm sure he had his moments of "what the.... kids". Hehe Great job! 🤘😎👍
The video was deemed too racy for Australian television. The government broadcaster did include it in their Saturday morning Top 50 countdown none the less.
This was one song video that you definitely didn't want to have on the TV screen (likely MTV) when your mom walked into the room! lol Of course, the HUGE double standard here is that there is no way in Hades that the FCC would have approved this song had a guy been singing it (not to mention half-naked guys walking around in the video). Surprised this one made it past the censors.
Chrissie just oozed sexuality , but the funny thing was that her cousin was also a performer , Little Patty . She was the absolute opposite from Chrissie , Prim and proper butter wouldnt melt in Little Patties mouth . My favorite from the Divinyls is All the boys. A fast stepping real rock song and their first big hit.
Hello Mike & Ginger, It's obvious that like singers such as Billy Idol, she had quite "raw" lyrics. For the Anglo-Saxon countries (England being the most severe on this subject, but also, by contrast, the one which offers the most atypical showbiz personalities and the most likely to controversy. Indeed, for the strongest personalities, the more we're constrained, the more we tend to want to oppose), it's rather shocking. On the other hand in France, we're really used to that. We aren't easily shocked. Serge Gainsbourg and his "Je t'aime moi non plus" dates back to 1963. To advocate sodomy in 1963 in a song, there was only one Frenchman to do that! He did it again a little later with "69 année érotique" (1969 of course) or even the sulfurous "La décadanse" a pun on "decadence" (1971). Here you can see what we watched at tv in 72 "Serge Gainsbourg et Jane Birkin "La décadanse" | Archive INA". It passed on the tv shows on the public channels at nine pm. lol Let us not forget either that the Marquis de Sade was French. It's also from his name that the word "sadism" is derived, the sexual practice opposed to masochism. We're out-of-competition! 😂😂😂 Anyway, I've always liked this Divinyls song. Although for me, it was the voice and the music (the singer too lol) that really appealed to me rather than the lyrics. But I've to admit we suddenly feel much hotter after this video than before! 😅 Peace Friends
And this made for a couple of great lines in a season two episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Lie To Me. Willow Rosenberg: So you two were sweeties in fifth grade? Buffy Summers: Not even! Ford wouldn't give me the time of day. Billy 'Ford' Fordham: Well, I was a manly sixth-grader. Couldn't be bothered with someone that young. Buffy Summers: It was terrible. I moped over you for months. Sitting in my room listening to that Divnyls song "I Touch Myself"... Buffy Summers: [realizes what she said, turns sheepishly to Willow and Xander] Of course, I had no idea what it was about.
I still think Belouis Some -Imagination had the sexiest Music video. Check out the Uncut version its basically pornographic and no wonder it was banned in the 80s.

Multiple Sclerosis and Breast Cancer.
Yeah really missed by many fans.Chrissy was wild on stage. She was renowned for not warring under ware with short skirts.

The scene you describe is very Chrissy...she was confronting lol.
She was brilliant to see live. Adorable
Chrissie was a true blue Aussie legend. Gone way to soon. RIP Chrissie ❤

All I can say is RIP Chrissy. ❤️🤘🎸🇦🇺
She passed away a long time ago but always an icon of Aussie music
10 years this month. A short time to some. She is dearly missed.
Now you should check out a song they did that came out earlier, "Pleasure and Pain". It goes with this theme.
Live watching her standing in the front row was a blessing with this band in the old days in Melbourne. Aus
Was dragged on stage and sang and danced with Her! Will Always Love You Chrissy! R.I.P.
Wow! So lucky
I was 14 when this song came out. I am now 46. Life in Oz. She makes you look like a saint. I could tell you a story about 1 of their concerts. As could another million Australians.
Another great female Aussie artist is Suzi de Marchi from Baby Animals. You would definitely like this Aussie band.

Met Chrissy a few times over the years and she was a sweety. Great sense of humour and just fun to talk to. Pity she's gone...
We’ve heard so many people say how cool she was. It really is a loss - G

Someone's just taught Ginger how to take it up a notch. 😁
Seeing her by herself on a stage is much sexier than the video. She was a force of nature.
Fun fact: The director of the music video was Michael Bay. Yes, THAT Michael Bay.
Haha. Awesome
Wow I'm surprised the video didn't end with a bang!
I remember it was just my brothers and I on the dance floor with all the females back in junior high. We love this song.
If you look up Sassy in the Dictionary there is a photo of Chrissy, She just Rocked out Sassy-ness on stage in her live performances around Australia in pubs and big concerts. I love her song jealous. She was amazing.
Ginger is gorgeous. She knows it and is not threatened by any other woman. I wish all women felt that way.
I love that Mike's Christmas list for Ginger can be found in this music video. And Ginger, you said it - Chrissie is missed!
Love both of you
I am from oz.
They are one of my favourite bands.

So glad my parents never caught me watching this on MTV and VH1 when I was a preteen

You really need to listen to the whole album. Every song is capable of being a hit.
You two are Great!
The white dress with coveralls was actually her famous schoolgirl costume a short blue what I believe is called a pinafore (don't ask me what I know about fashion could be Witten on a stamp with a crayon) and white blouse
After you get past the smokin' hot babe aspect of this song, if that is possible, the bass line makes the music!
If you haven't watched "Pleasure and Pain" you haven't see Chrissy at her rocking sassy attitude best. Love the lady and miss her greatly.
I'm betting he ran out to the store right after this filming.
Chrissy was the Queen of subtlety, almost subliminal, one could say, not.
"Pleasure & Pain" is another fantastic song from them! RIP Chrissy
