As a samurai/ninja freak, I loved this movie. The fight on the train is insane 😂
Agreed. Fast and brutal. Not drawn out with fancy moves. I really like it.
Best ninja scene ever
Best part of the film
Always loved how during the sword fight Christopher is in the corner getting drunk
I became samurai/ninja freak as a teenager because of this movie.
Directed by the writer of “Under Siege”, and starring Joan Chen from “On Deadly Ground”… Man, this thing wins the “Six Degrees of Seagal” game
Lawton also wrote "Pretty Woman", which may sound odd until you read this note from Wikipedia:
"The film was initially conceived as a dark drama about prostitution in Los Angeles in the 1980s. The relationship between Vivian and Edward also originally involved controversial themes, including Vivian being addicted to drugs; part of the deal was that she had to stay off cocaine for a week. Edward eventually throws her out of his car and drives off. The original script by J.F. Lawton, called 3000, ended with Vivian and her prostitute friend on the bus to Disneyland."
Very dark. But they do go to Disneyland at the end!
Yikes
@@kyleolson8977 😳 OK, I've never heard that before. Nice bit of trivia.
@@kyleolson8977 Not to say Pretty Woman isn't good as is, but that could have been a good, completely different movie. I 'd watch. Way, way more realistic too.
Our Lord and savior Steven seagal
I’ve loved this film for decades and the line delivered by John Lone is one is the most badass EVER.
" how much blood must I bathe in to get clean"?
Oh right, that movie in which Christopher Lambert runs around with a katana. And totally weebs out instead of getting all Scottish and stuff
I absolutely love this movie, it's a gem
Cool film overall and that train massacre is an excellent set-piece. The reverse sword style the blacksmith insists Lambert use is the one favoured by Zatoichi, the blind Swordsman, the hero of a long running film series and also used by Rutger Hauer in Blind Fury. Homages galore!
The part where chris lambert was like “i dont speak japanese” i was like thats cool bro shes chinese
This movie's an absolute hoot. John Lone is a badass and the bullet train sequence is ass-kickery of the highest order.
Another great movie.
Add Snatch to it
I liked this movie. I've watched that train scene many times. Man, RedEye sure is cutting down a lot of my guilty pleasures. 🙂
this movie is 100% top shelf
Kyoto drums.also
Yeah man, the train scene is something else :D
Long ago I thought Segal was an actor. But always liked Lambert. Maybe his smile?
Why “guilty pleasure???” You like what you like, why care what others think?
@Joshua Black Figure of speech I guess 🤔
fun fact. the drunken blacksmith is played by Takayuki Kubota. A well known highly revered karate master and pioneer to karate in the united states. The dude is a REAL badass. He's actually got a decent acting resume as well.
And is actually quite humble, by willing to be casted as a drunken blacksmith
I remember watching this on Starz back in the day. It was one of the late night Friday or Saturday movies. The good old days.
I love this movie, the scene where the kunoichi cuts her face off is savage.
Her own face? That's... An interesting choice for an individual to make.
this is one of all time fav's. the train scene was mind blowing.
This was great fun. I had to applaud at the loss of weight joke for the girl! I almost choked on my drink. You totally got me! Well done, RedEye, well done.
The ear canal line got me lol. Also when I was younger I used to do that "hand something to your friend" trick all the time with like wrappers and paper I didn't want to deal with. Worked all the time.
Lol thanks! I did the same thing. They will always grab it. It's such a weird human brain thing
Considering that there are only a few hundred murders in Japan per year, I think this movie filled up the whole country's quota for 1995.
The "hunted" film, with Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio Del Toro is great and criminally underrated. It has good acting, an interesting story/dynamic between the two main characters, one (Benicio) being a highly trained soldier/assassin who's gone mad from constant conflicts and war, and has deserted the army and is now killing civilians. The other (Tommy) the old man who trained him years ago, and is reluctantly convinced to track his previous student down and stop him with his unique expert skills, as no-one else comes close. The climax of the film also very entertaining and interesting, with both teacher and student crafting a knife/weapon to go up against each other for the final time, one crafted/made from stone and one from metal, the most basic materials they had at their disposal while isolated in the wilderness. Just in case anyone was wondering about other films called - "hunted", the Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio Del Toro film is easily one of the best and deserves more attention.👍
Damn straight that movie is incredible
It's good, but it's pretty much a rip off of Rambo.
I did see this on VHS back in the day when it first came out but had forgotten about it. Great video! A real ripper movie with Christopher Lambert is Fortress from 1993
This one of my all time favorite B movies. That Ninja fight on the bullet train is insaaaaane. 😂
I'm against Benji being hunted in a general sense. However Benji being hunted by ninjas... now I'm curious.
One of the best Ninja/Samurai movies in my opinion. It’s been kinda notoriously rare to find on DVD/Blu Ray or even stream.
@12:45 Japan is so ahead that they had the modern Windows logo back in the 90s 😋
As many times as Christopher Lambert has used swords in movies.
He must be a professional swordsman by now.
I hope this means that we'll be getting a Mean Guns review soon. One of my all time favorite movies.
You still owe me surviving the game with ice t and Rutger hower
John Lone was the only one acting seriously in this movie😅
I saw the thumbnail with the title and was expecting a movie with Steven Seagal tracking down a food truck.
Thanks RedEye, I remember seeing this as a kid with my grandpa but being young at the time, I could only remember a few scenes as stills, and now I know what to look for. I feel like Seagal at a buffet now.
This movie should have been much bigger, some of the sword scenes really are terrific.
I'll never understand how Christopher Lambert had a career let alone an action movie career.
_HOW DARE YOU!_ 😒 (Greta Tunberg face)
Holy crap, I remember watching this movie on late night Aussie TV as a kid. Had to be the first film I ever watched with Lambert in it, even before Highlander.
I loved this movie...LOVED this movie!
I always had a soft spot for this for this movie. Me and my family taped this off of cable on VHS back in the day.
A prequel about Kinjo should be interesting.
Oh damn I haven't seen this movie in years. My dad recorded it on VHS and used to watch it all the time. Thank you for spotlighting this movie.
“Even monkeys fart out of trees.”
Ohhhh yes!
Ever thought about doing the movie Sidekicks with Chuck Norris? Another classic to me.
I adore Christopher Lambert.
I've watched this movie and Crying Freeman regularly ever since they came out in 1995 and that's more than I could say about movies made since then.
Can't beat a fun action movie
Redeye I love your work. From what you sounded a year ago to your energy today. Keep it up, revist Under Siege 2!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you noticed the difference of energy :) it's something i really tried to work on
I remember seeing this at a theatre, I was high, I laughed so much,.
I think this is going to change everyone's lives forever: The City Cobra (1986)
This is one I've never even seen!! Love it
Poor Lambert , he can't get away from swords , long rain coats and neck damage . Lol
REDEYE are you bugging my house cause i have the Hunted on DVD and just got done watching it a hour ago and now YOU ARE REVIEWING IT!?!
You should check out the 1992 sci-fi movie Fortress (also with Lambert) if you haven't seen it yet.
I think this is a great movie.
John Lone was an awesome ninja.
I'm sure John Lone and Joan Chen who played husband/wife in The Last Emporor and that movie dominated the Oscars that year never would have imagined they would reunite years later in a Z level action movie set in Japan starring Chirs Lambert but that right there is Hollywood magic my friend!
Yeah, funny how careers can go.
6:25 This is the funniest last word thus far.
The Hunted is good, with a simple, easy to follow storyline. But it's the Taiko drum driven soundtrack that really grabbed my attention. For the obligatory comment recommendation, I'll give a nod towards 1991s The Perfect Weapon, which stars Jeff Speakman and a veritable who's who of some of the greatest Asian actors of all time.
Great movie. John Lone is always a great villain.
one of my favorite movies of all time, the train scene is a classic!!
The thing that would make this review even better is if you mention the comparison to Highlander when Christopher Lambert aka Connor Mcleoud took the bad guy's head at the end but didn't get immortal powers from it this time.
Love this channel. Still waiting on “blind fury”…… another suggestion with Christopher Lambert is a cheesy film called “Mean Guns” ( I think) I’m pretty sure it had Ice T in it.
Oh those sounds great as well
Means Guns is legitimately one of my all time favourite movies. I can't explain it. My other favourites are Metropolis and Cannibal Holocaust, so Mean Guns really doesn't fit with those.
Damn thought you were gonna do the one with Tommy Lee and benico deltorro ...can you do a hunted spree please and do like all the hunted movies please
Fun fact I want to share. I actually have seen this movie in the theatre. I was a kid, fan of Queen (the band), and for me Highlander (1986) was the best movie I've ever seen. After Commando. And after Terminator. And after Predator... Well... maybe not the greatest but on par with the listed. Anyway. For me Christoph Lambert was a great action star like Sly and Arnie. And when I saw The Hunted I was so baffled. I really expected to see at least an ok movie, and The hunted is not one of those. What is interesting however after so many years is that I really remember it well even seeing it only once in the cinema. I remember drums scene, the train scene and the ending in detail. I've seen much more better movies even lately and I don't remember them at all.
Only Red Eye can point out a camera angle that sees down the lady’s ear 😆 Once you see, you can’t unsee it 😆 It’s all I remember from this review 😆
As others have said, the fight in the train is insanely good :-)
The part that me and my friends laughed at over and over is when the ninja pulls out the sword looks at the hilt and then pushes it back in as if to see it was loaded.
So happy to see this review. I have loved this film for years. I watched it every night before bed in my teens. Cool to see somebody's else take on it.
I like cowboy boots!! selling computer chips to the japanese is like selling ice to the eskimos. rumor has it there is a secret fun town full of ninjas. I would like to die slowly so that I will remember what it is like to be alive. I could go on and on.
The most dangerous game is actually gambling on a fart...just ask my underwear 😩💩
#blotharshitmypants
loved that movie. thank you for the memories.
To give a bit more context to how the ninjas knew every move: the samurai guy had informed those ninjas every step of the way, where they were going, because he had a personal interest in killing Kinjo.
Omg, “Ninjas love pageantry”. Absolute gold
I was wondering what happened to Japanese "Columbo"! And there he is sporting a sweet mustache...thanks for bringing back old memories. I had fogotten he exits the movie as quickly as he appeared. 🤣
"Bring me his head." - Best Line in the Movie :)
I love this classic ninja movie simple and fast phased
I watched this movie in the 90s with my dad and brothers.
I really enjoyed this as a kid. Fun stuff.
I just bought this movie on Blu-ray last week, and I actually saw it in theaters when it originally came out.
Plus lambert is dam near blind without glasses
Was watching Ninja Assassin waiting for the train fight, I totally forgot it was from this gem of a film😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
I wonder if Little Taxi Girl is supposed to be a mystical character, like she's Joan Chen's ghost or something? This movie's pretty trippy.
I remember seeing this in the theater, but I don't know how long it's been since I thought of it. The main thing I remember from it is Kodo.
Thank you , I seen this movie a long time ago and it stayed in my head cuz of the girl who cut off her face. Bugged me how I could never find it or figure out the name. Liked and subbed.
The hunted is not the most amazing movie but it was good enough to be entertaining for me plus I love Christopher Lambert but I think it's cool is Kenjo he's not the best Ninja cuz I've seen some good ninjas in my time and some other movies but he's the most intimidating ninja I've ever seen with those words of his and those crazy looking eyes oh man
Yo! We've got a word for martial arts bs: bullshido (bs + Japanese honor code of "bushido"). There was a place in the video where I thought that term would help
4:49
Yeah you should look up a nearby Kendo classes. They do exist in a decent number here in America. It's fun and a good exercise. And you can then legitimately say on the show that you know, at least in the basics, how to sword fight. Its a win win when it comes to learning a martial art.
I know I'm in the minority , but I've always liked this movie. They probably could have had Lambert do some more training stuff and maybe he could have worked on his sword skills more throughout his career, but the swordmaster and the fight on the train aren't bad
2 clans are at war because someone stole a dude's favorite piece of chicken?. I could understand that. Don't take my favorite piece.😌👍💯
The train fight is awesome
Aww yeah, it's Lord Raiden and the immortal one himself, Christopher Lambert. He's got some interesting movies that will fit perfectly for future Red Eye Reviews!
dude...this is one of my favourtite movies...I'm 42...all of your comedic points are true...but its still a great movie...also I watched this with my grandma, whom wanted me to watch problem child a terrible film....I belive was playing at the same time....idk I'm old and drunk...
Things like the ear canal comment is why I love you and your channel. Jesus Christ.
4:42 I’m not in an expert in anything. But I believe that sport is called Kendo. My city has a Japanese cultural festival every spring, and they give kendo demonstrations outdoors, along with traditional Japanese dances and music, and tea ceremonies. Anyway, according to the instructor, the screaming during Kendo is done to expel one’s own fear and scare the enemy. Supposedly, this came from when samurai would actually battle, and naturally scream during combat for the above reasons. I imagine to a degree making noises is natural to all combat sports, just not to the level seen in kendo. Again, though I’m not an expert.
If you go to learn kendo you will learn that funny sounds you want, because in kendo you have to shout the name of the cut which you use in the attack, during the action. It maybe sounds crazy but it works (and it is tradition), the kendokas are very good fencers.
“No ninja is comparable to a trained police officer with a firearm.” That guy obviously never watched a Cannon film before.
not a great movie but it is fun ,and john lone was such a fantastic actor for his semi brief filmography
I saw this film once way back when I was in high school. Thought it was awesome but I couldn't remember the name. Now I know it's the same name as like 50 other films.
Here at red eye reviews, we live our lives a quarter mile at a time.
Dammit Redeye you've peaked our interest! You've gotta review that Benji Hunted movie now.
I recommend The Fortress (1992) other weird movie with Christopher Lambert as the lead actor.
Big sut high pants oh yeaaaah that's 80's baby 👺👍🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 ( we back with Ninjaaaaaaaaa 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 )
I love how the blacksmith specifically teaches him to use the sword wrong. There is no advantage to holding a sword reverse grip, and MANY disadvantages.
A Great Film. Remember it well.I have it on Amazon .
I'm glad you made fun of his forehead because it's so distracting. I laughed so loud when you cracked on him. I think he can read people's thoughts with that noggin....I do think that's the same guy from the movie "Highlander" right? There can be only one!
Awesome Bob's Burgers reference 😊
That sex scene wasn't showgirls, but it's alright 😂
Wordupyo!
