Dude you are definitely hitting your stride!!! Canon Films+Ninjas=80/90s Ninja movie madness. Keep it going!!!!! I'm still really curious tho why ninjas during that time. Kid ninjas, robot ninjas, I grew up during this time period and I used to ponder that even then. By 95 I was all Ninja'd out lol

5:52 Christopher George trying to keep a straight face is great. And "Ninja! Ninja! Ninja!" I don't think I've seen him play a bad guy before and he was clearly having fun.

And only there 13:27 I realised that the actor who plays the main ninja is the same guy who plays the general in Die Hard 2 hahaa "Eagle nest, this is falcon, mayday!" 😆

The only movie I’ve seen with a more ridiculous, unintentionally hilarious slo-mo death scene is at the end of a horror movie called House on the Edge of the Park. The main bad guy gets shot in the nuts and does an epic, ear-splitting wail for what feels like half an hour.

First everyone let’s give it up Sho Kosugi the real *ninja actor* in this movie (bonsai bro)! He goes back to The Godfather and Bad New Bears. In the 80’s he was the face of Ninja in America. Not only was he an actor in his prime but also he did choreography as well. People in this generation don’t know him nearly enough. Not to the technical stuff.
Actually tossing chalk into the eyes IS a ninja 🥷 thing. Using Darts to poison a target (the one guy that got stuck pined to death) also is on brand. Using fire and causing panic is really also a Ninja thing too. The hand signs are linked to spiritual beliefs and are a way to psych you up, iconically ninja. But you know the one thing that is not ninja - asking to be beheaded. Ninja were every goal originated and knew a lot about poison so if they want to go they are not asking for a beheading they can easily and painlessly do the deed themselves.

I remember watching this movie 20 or 30 times when it came out, this is the movie that launched the ninja craze of the 80's and it was just awesome as only a Canon film could be. It is also the only ninja film I can think of where you see the ninja carrying every weapon he uses instead of just a sword and pulling other weapons out of dimensional storage.

In a way, this isn't just a Ninja film but the Ninja film.
Ninjas were not a big stereotyped part of culture until the 1980's. They seem to have even faded out in Japanese culture after the 1960s, and were probably always closer to spies there than guys in Ninja suits.
There were a couple of notable appearances earlier. The most important is You Only Live Twice in 1967, when James Bond fights with a bunch of ninjas in outfits which were probably the first step towards the modern ninja, gray pants and shirts and a hood with a Samurai Sword. Then in the less popular 1975 The Killer Elite you've got James Caan vs more gray ninjas, but with something more like loose gi with a hoodie.
So then nothing until this which sets all of your Ninja outfits standards and multi-color Ninja patterns and leads to Ninja films and Ninjas as craze and instant staple of pop culture. That's the story you would always hear and it's probably not entirely untrue, but...
There's one film first that you already did, The Octagon. You may remember that nobody seems to know who the Ninja are (apparently they never watched You Only Live Twice). It would be really weird now for anyone to say that. Additionally, you'll notice that often the ninjas in that film don't have real ninja outfits. It's only towards the end that everybody has more "traditional" outfits. And there's nothing crazy except the "super ninja" outfit.
The Octagon may have established the basic Ninja outfit and the set all the secret rules, but this film was the lower budget follow-up that created the cartoon elements Canon and others would keep using over the years.
The Octagon was a hit, but the company behind it went bankrupt in 1981. I can't say exactly how Enter the Ninja did because it wasn't reported, though it certainly did well. One way or another, Canon films was still around for years and Menahem Golan was around for much longer to promote their Ninjas. And Chuck Norris.
Is Enter the Ninja actually responsible for the craze or should it be The Octagon? It's almost like asking if Blade or X-Men should be credited for the Superhero movie boom because one convinced studios to start making superhero films and one made it really big.

(Just my understanding) Ninja 🥷 really disappeared when the period of Japanese Modernization began effectively ending about the time Samurai culture did (though that complicated ) . But as a part of the Japanese culture they did not disappear as much as be come unfashionable and were un-needed. My understanding is they never disappeared from literature and so did eventually emerge into the anime and live action films.

Of course the thing with "Put your gun down" works. Ok, you and your friends won't surrender the guns, he'd shoot one of you, two tops, before the rest kills him. But... do you want to risk being that one who was shot?

This was a weird movie. I think the war that the main character and his friend fought in was the war in Rhodesia, which is a really weird thing to put in the movie; I guess the film-makers thought that it was hackneyed to make them Vietnam vets (a lot of films back in the '80's had the main characters be Vietnam vets) so they just made them Rhodesian war vets, but the problem was - I don't think a lot of American audiences were aware of what the war in Rhodesia was!
