Kane Kosugi has an amazing career. He's been in 80s ninja movies with his old man, to being in Super Sentai, Ultraman and more recently Kamen Rider. An underrated B-movie and tokusatsu legend.
His fight with Scott Adkins is on par with the best of HK Action Cinema at it's peak (that was long ago, sadly).
He was Ryu Hayabusa in Dead or Alive the movie
This movie is so fucking good. The amount of hidden sharp edges on Kusogi's weapons defies the imagination
There's even hidden sharp edges on the dolls. And heroin. They forgot to take out the heroin.
I lost my kitty around the same time you lost Lloyd. Bert and Pearl are exactly the kind of therapy i needed today. ❤
17:50 Bert and Pearl make their Cinema Snob debut!
14:08 Gotta say... The Village People were the last folks I expected to make an appearance.
Was almost hoping for a voice over of two girls 'come play with us snob..forever....and ever....and ever'
@@jasonmaclean719 That would've been terrific!
Thought their Names where Si and Am?
Plot twist the surviving baby from the slaughter in the beginning would later be found by a clan of ninjas. They would call the child Haru. He would follow in his father Chos footstep and be a ninja himself.
Or it's skorpion son from the latest mortal kombat movie!!😂
This movie was a vital part of my childhood. I remember renting the MGM big box from Kroger’s a bunch of times.
And Brad, I relish the thought of an American Ninja review someday
"What Happened, Katherine?" Wow. All the passion of Hurt's "I Love You, Wife." in "Lost in Space." Although that was the best part of the entire damn film.
More tomahawks wielding native Americans vs ninjas please!
17:50 and Bert and Pearl's personalities are established right off the bat *chef's kiss*
Cinema Snob covering a movie like this is officially nostalgic.
Oh gawd we're so old now! D:
I remember renting this from the local video store in 87,I was only ten years old.good times.
Revenge of the ninja, the greatest 80s ninja movie of all time… Which is a much bigger genre than most people realize lol
Ninja 3 The Domination is just so good. May it be in the spotlight one day.
Cannon Films gone but not forgotten.
I remember laughing at the woman fighting the kid.
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid
My favorite of the Cannon/Sho Kosugi ninja trilogy.
I proudly own it on Blu-Ray!
That opening scene is Sho Kusigi at his best.
I don't know of any ninja slasher movies, Brad, but if you accept "killer samurai" slashers, there's "Bloodbeat" and your favorite, "the House Where Evil Dwells". The Siamese are adorable!
Sho Kosugi is a legend. I remember watching him in some bizarre Rutger Hauer film called Blind Fury, and he's the best thing in it.
Nit bizarre when you realize it' an adaptation of a long-running Japanese series, Zatoichi.
The mom death scene killed me she was right
Rented this as a kid and then watched it again for laughs a few years ago. The world needs a Cinema Snob 'No Retreat No Surrender' review!
We need a ninja movie with Kane kasugi Pronto. He played the villain in a Scott Atkins ninja movie and was excellent.
I remember watching the movie all the time back in a day, this movie and Ninja 3 the Domination.
This one is my favorite of the Ninja Trilogy. Lots of fun.
Watching this review has made me feel charged full of the NINJA SUPREMACY and ready to answer my Garfield phone and spring into action.
Sho Kosugi!!
Oh your new cats look so freaking adorable Brad
As someone who grew up near Salt Lake City that movie brings back memories. I once went to the playground where the wacky fight scene takes place. It may have even been the same year the movie was made.
This was one of the best Cinema Snobs episodes EVER! LOVE IT!!!
Two of my favorite things. Sho Kosugi Ninja movies, and Cinema Snob reviews.
Thank you, good sir. You made an intolerable weekend much easier to endure. Osu!
Indeed, one *does* have to marvel at the "masters of invisibility" wearing black w/red outfits in the middle of the day, blending ever so seamlessly into the green foliage, white buildings, or anything just *screamingly* opposite to black w/red highlights...
Kane Kosugi also starred in the 18th Super Sentai Series titled _Ninja Sentai Kakuranger_ (February 18, 1994 - February 24, 1995) as Jiraiya/Ninja Black who made his first full debut in the 3rd episode of Kakuranger subtitled *American Ninja* and just like Kane in real life, his character of Jiraiya is also from Los Angeles when he first made his debut he would talk in English to his other teammates. They would respond to him in Japanese by telling him to speak in Japanese. His ninja animal in the show was a frog, in _Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers_ his counterparts were Adam Park/Mighty Morphin' Black Ranger played by Johnny Yong Bosch, and Corcus/Black Alien Ranger played by Alan Palmer who also portrayed Pharis on _Xena: Warrior Princess_
Another really good ninja movie starring Sho Kasugi is Pray For Death. Hopefully Cinema Snob will do a review on it soon as well.
I unapologetically love this. Especially the final gight.
I was a freshman in college when this came out. I'm pretty sure we all got drunk and saw it. I know I saw all the Golan Globus Ninja movies in the theater.
When I was a teenager, I LOVED the Ninja trilogy.
I also liked Kraft cheese slices. I was kind of a stupid kid.
When Snob said that it was filmed in Salt Lake I at first thought, "but I don't recognize these places..." but then in the final fight you can see the Block U on the mountain behind them. Besides clearly being the SLC skyline. I'm thinking that oriental garden at the beginning might have been out at Red Butte Gardens. I'm not certain exactly which building they're fighting on at the end. The main question is why the Utah Film Commission doesn't ever mention that this was filmed here, but they're all about Carnival of Souls.
Finally. Used to rent this all the time as a kid but could never remember the name. Catching those arrows and spitting caltrops in a guys face are all I ever had to go on.
Sho Kosugi’s sons Kane and Shane went on to make several appearances on a Japanese TV show called Sasuke, which features 100 competitors trying to complete a four stage obstacle course. They enjoyed a lot of success in the early years of the show, with Kane even reaching the final stage once.
Years later, partly due to their success and that of others, the show’s popularity became such that spin-offs began popping up all over the globe, including right here in the US. You might know it as “American Ninja Warrior”. This show in turn became popular enough that “ninja” actually has become a sport for a lot of people.
So in a way, the Kosugi’s played a role in creating both the first and second Ninja booms in America.
I freaking love this movie!!
So happy this movie won the poll!
Fav part of Monday is here again 😎🤟
17:50- They are SO cute...Sure, they are DEMON CATS...But they are cute.
17:50 Holy shit! Chloe and Lloyd came back to life!
One thing i find hilarious about this film is the self awareness of it. Like in the 1980s it was just a normal thing form roaming bands of ninjas to go around killing peoples families. Theres a part in the film where the chief of police is like "you mean to tell me theres ninjas running around this day and age"? and Sho gives a sly look at the camera
I first heard of this movie from a video by "Teddy Rubskin". Looks like a hell-a-fun, and even comes complete with an awesome poster.
So glad to see a new snob episode on my 21st bday
So, I just got done finished watching your review. Now, I feel like I need to go back and watch some of the older Michael Myers movies. Dimensions of different Michael Myers actors in this video was my favorite part! Great touch! And great video, as always.
Been following you for years Brad, keep up the good work!! 👍 (commenting just to help with the Algorythm :P)
20:28 As someone who works in Salt Lake City I can safely say this sort of thing happens at least weekly.
Loved It! Thanks Brad and demon cats.
@17:47 - Dude, your kitties are adorable and I love the gag you've got for them! Keep that up!!
Hell yeah I knew this one was gonna be a new review by Brad!
Great childhood memory, thanks for reviewing it!
My favorite movie as a kid.
My older brother had a habit of taking me to see films in theaters I was probably too young to see (I was 5 when this came out), but I distinctly remember seeing this and Pray for Death in theaters. (Mom took me to see Ninja 3: Domination)
Yay, another Sho Kosugi ninja flick! :D
Loved the "Mitchell with ninjas" line, btw.
(The Silver Ninja must be evil. He picked Will Ferrell.)
Stewie Griffen: THAT WASN'T FUNNY!!
I swear to god I was just thinking about this movie about ten minutes before I got on you tube and this was the first thing that popped up
Now to wait for 2030 when Brad reviews Ninja 3.
...
...Are we there yet?
At least he did not show them his Masla!❤🎉
This movie has very clear and clean graphics for a 1983 B movie!
I know your reviews have a sarcastic convention, but they are like a cozy ray of sunshine to me :)
"I didn't bring him to America to fight in the streets with fools. I want him to get beaten up!"
My favorite ninja flick! I'm so happy to see the Snob cover it finally! (I've seen the Pierre Kirby week and Enter the NInja episodes dozens of times at this point.)
Please consider doing more Sam Firstenberg films, there's the awesome Avenging Force - which he's said is his best - or his lesser known later (but still loads of fun) stuff like American Samurai.
Mitchell WITH ninjas?! Good God that would be too epic. However that could be so awesome it may just rival the awesomeness of George's chest shuriken death scene.
Nice review as always. I loved this film when I was a teenager.
Sho Kusogi is Kane Kusogi's father, Kane played the black ranger in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger
This poster is up at my local Alamo Drafthouse!
Oh thank the Gods! This movie rules!!
Cool review as always Snob, you have a good night sir
15:16 And here Kane Kosugi foreshadows his role in the movie **Enter the MGTOW**
Brad love your movie and food reviews from ireland
Kane Kosugi later played the most famous ninja of all time, Ryu Hayabusa.
The 80s loved their ninjas.
It would have been easy to have said that Cho was the brother of Hasagawa from the first movie. It could have added to the tragedy as well. Your brother died chasing a false notion of warrior honor and the rest of the family got killed because he wasn't there to protect them.
Detective Dub and ADR sounds like a great show.
It really does...."They deliver bad lines.....and justice!"
11:18 I'm surprised he didn't have to battle a teenage werewolf while van surfing.
Can't wait for "Son of Revenge of the Ninja"
*The following is the opinion of a Salty SEAGULL named EARL who just shows up in my posts whenever he feels like it, so don't take anything he says too seriously!*
[EARL the Salty SEAGULL:] 3:21 - "He's like the Roronoa Zoro of Ninja, except he uses Three-Arrow Style instead of Three-Swords! 8:54 - Ah, the classic Detective duo, Dub & ADR!"
Best. Ninja. Movie. Ever. Made.!.!.!
The definitive 80's ninja movie. None others come even close to this one. Not even American Ninja.
Kane is wearing Dodgers gear, but the Salt Lake Bees are an affiliate of the Angels, the other L.A. team!
Mitchell with ninjas.....I need that. 😂
I have interviewed Director Sam Firstenberg a few times on my channel 😊 great guy
Brad, do you ever wonder what life would be like if Cannon never went bankrupt and was still around today?
Great review!!
Amazing that Sam Furstenberg didn't even know how to direct action before this
Good old ninja movies. The Crème de la crème of cinema. 😁 I love them
04:59
Hey, as long as it's 90's Gamera, I'm cool.
Richard Harrison should have played the silver Ninja! Or camo Ninja.
"Mitchell" would be a huge improvement.
Is that the set from Kentucky Fried Movie "A Fistful of Yen?"
This movie is literally " Once upon a time in the west", but with ninjas😅
I'm wondering where they found a Japanese garden in Salt Lake City.
I've come across a ton of Mormon missionaries living in Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if someone was inspired by their time abroad and made a little bit of Japan in Salt Lake City to remember it by.
Man i miss the 80s ninja movies. Theu were just all great.
Yes. The nonwoke based times.
Have you done any of the Emanuellemovies?
This my favorite movie ever
great review as always. after watching channels likes yours, I can't watch movies. I have to see them with commentary. thanks
1:22 "King Solomon's Mines" and "Sahara" sound too high-brow and respectable to be Cannon Films output. I thought that place was a cheap schlock factory.
8:25 I laughed at how underwhelmed those passers-by acted. "Another day, another stealth eye-stabbing."
