    I went to see Dune: Part 2 on opening day and when Paul vs. Feyd happened, my entire theater was quiet. Only when Paul got stabbed, there were audible gasps. Can't wait for Messiah. 👌🏾

      Oh yeah, it was a good movie to see in theaters. I knew what was coming since I've read the books a thousand times, but it was still amazing to see it all on the big screen.

      It was amazing how, after all the wars and battles Paul had been through. That one knife fight genuinely felt like he had bitten off way more than he could chew.

      @@MadHax-wt5tl Paul actually intended for it to go that way. The movie foreshadowed Paul and Feyd's confrontation through a very brief vision (after Paul's awakening from the water of life ritual) where we saw Paul holding the hilt of his crysknife as he sticked it into Feyd's heart. It's quite easy to miss.

      I thought that fight scene was lame. I didn't care about the outcome first of all. I just couldn't get over scrawny Tim and his non-chemistry with Zendaya. Also, they didn't show how Paul won the fight. They didn't edit the scene so you could tell what was happening when Paul used the knife he was stabbed with. The choreography was bad in the 80s version but nothing was cooler than when Sting got split open by Paul when he shouted at him without the weirding module.

    Denis Villeneuve deserves more credit for his fight scenes. Sicario and Bladerunner 2049 both had some absolute bangers as well.

      @@MarcusFlemmings Terminator 2 mall fight between T-800 and T-1000 was one of the most memorable from my childhood. Still is to this day. Music, pacing, reaction shots, impact, it has it all man! Great work btw.

    I’m so glad you showed Scott Pilgrim when talking about the importance of editing. Edgar Wright has always been iconic when it comes to that side of filmmaking. It makes everything he creates so hard to look away from!

    The experience of watching "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in the theatre is still something I think about to this day. It was so beautiful that I could barely even blink during the entire runtime. I left the theatre, and purchased a ticket for the next showing.

      I loved how unglamorous and grounded it was. They get tired, they get sloppy, they get slower and weaker as the fight goes on. None of this pirouetting dancing that goes on for 10 minutes without any signs of fatigue...

      I wish I hadn't seen La La Land; I hate musicals. All that singing and dancing, every five minutes; it's the same reason I can't stand Disney crap.
      I only saw it because my wife made me go with her, to the movies.

      That’s a good joke because it’s true. I watch that movie thinking it would be some light fluff with a few good larfs and maybe a couple of memorable songs. It starts out seeming like that, but I left it feeling depressed. And I don’t remember how any of the songs went, except for the retro stuff they cover from the 1980’s. A good stomping would have cheered me up no end.

    That fight between Zhang Ziyi and Michelle Yeoh is still my favourite fight scene of all time. Poetry in motion indeed but also great storytelling of masterful experience over youthful talent.
    I wouldn't mind seeing an episode about magical fights. The duel between Voldemort and Dumbledor springs to mind, the only fight between two master wizards in the entire series. How exiting can you make it with the characters just waving their hands about.

    I know guns are an automatic disqualification for this series, but I'd still really like to see your take on the "gun kata" scenes in Equilibrium, especially in the final fight scene. I always found something really fascinating about the way they treated their gunfights like martial arts fight scenes.

      Fun fact the choreographer made 2 different forms of gun kata.... the first is the more flowing kind highlighted in the intro and final fight and the more stiff one... the filmmaker found the stiff better fit the themes so used it more heavily.......youtube channel stumbling down history road

      The build up at the bridge with MJ and kids in the cable car made the final fight scene more impactful. It was like "you FINALLY crossed the line, Goblin... now I will KILL you!"

      Every fight in those movies makes you feel like the antagonist is stronger than Spiderman. And when he is close to death it matters that much more because of the incredible relationships they form between Peter Parker and the other characters. Especially Aunt May who is the guiding motherly voice throughout the films.

    for me, the first movie that left me with an appreciation for "good fights" was the first matrix movie. next to crouching tiger and hidden dragon, avatar the last airbender and avatar kora left a deep impression on me. not just because they were so beautifully done, but also because of how deeply they tied into the physics and lore of that world, and the lore and personal growth of each character. absolutely amazing.

      I remember the first time I watched that scene. It was the first time I had seen a fight like that that felt flashy but also fairly realistic. If you haven't ever looked up the actor that John Cusack is fighting, do yourself a favor and look him up, the guy is very interesting and amazing.

You can be initimidating in so many ways... even if somewhat advanced age or heavy suit do not allow for lightning manouevering. Be composed, economic, be menacing... and then lash out in rage when dramatically appropriate.

    I think the fight scene between Max , Furiosa, Nux, and the Brides in Fury Road deserves an extended analysis from you- the logistics alone, how all the actions and physical spacing of characters play a key role in how the action unfolds, how clear the minor goals are within the overall fight. really sharp storyboarding.

    Sword fights are hard and often times the actors attack the swords rather than each other.
    Ridley Scotts first movie, The Duelists (1977), was a great set of sword fights and quite brutal in spots.

    Haven't seen anything regarding the Ruroni Kenshin live actions in this series yet. Would highly recommend. That trilogy has some of the best sword fights I've ever seen

    The TMNT reminded me of one of my favorite all time movie lines...when the foot guys are trying to hit them with the big axe things and Mikey and Donny (I think) are rolling around in the room avoiding the hits when: "Good thing these guys aren't lumberjacks." "No joke." "The only thing safe in the woods, would be the trees." Also, am I the only person that enjoyed Dune I more than the second one? I felt the second one had a lot of story pacing issues. Some things were drawn out while others were really sped up. I know it's a lot of content to try and fit into the movie, but the first movie felt much better to me narratively. Now...the visuals and cinematics, vfx and sound/music are all top notch as always. Cinematic master pieces are DV's specialty.

      No, you aren't and maybe it's just the two of us but, I almost regret buying Dune II.
      It isn't all bad, but I is a lot better. That said, despite my like for Timothy Chalamet, I cannot stand him as Paul and think he's miscast. Him and the awfully overrated Zendaya.
      Overall, the films are stunning visually, but so much time is wasted on the art and the story/characters are suffering because of it.

    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon really is something special. Right up there with The Matrix in terms of elevating action to high art.
    Also, would love to see the cliff top climax of Last of the Mohicans, with a focus on Chingachgook's confrontation with Magwa. It's short, sweet, and brutal.

      Nice: I was just about to suggest the end of Last of the Mohicans myself. It's such a grand climactic moment of powerful emotion, magnificently heightened by the scenery, music, cinematography. A grand finale to the story escalation. (Also has great reaction shots.)

    Jet Li vs. Mike Lambert in Unleashed was always a personal favourite. Although there are parts where it looks like it was slowed down in order to better see the movements of each person. Does a good job of setting the scene and highlighting the environment; bathroom close-quarters was done well.

    When that episode of Ashoka came out a lot of people were complaining about how she disarmed Anakin. I always took that moment as him allowing her to take his weapon. A test to see if she'd give into the dark and strike him down or lower the weapon choosing the light. It's the only thing that makes any sense because, as you and others have said, she's absolutely outclassed by Anakin. No way she could disarm him otherwise.

    I just watched Everything Everywhere All At Once for the first time the other day and I really liked it. It was super goofy and weird, but original and fun at the same time.
    Dune Part 2 was what I waited to see my entire life as a Dune novel fan. I have been a Dune fan since I was a kid in the early 90's. My Aunt gave me all of the Dune novels to read when I was growing up. Dune Part 2 with the sandworm scene was like a dream come true, the entire theater rumbled, it felt as if I was on a sandworm for the first time in my life. The final fight between Feyd and Paul.. it felt real. I knew the outcome as a book reader, but it was still incredible seeing Dune the way I've always wanted to see it on the big screen.
    I also remember seeing Apocalypto in theaters. I really enjoyed it for what it was, very intense and action packed.

    All the fights in Ong Bak are amazing.
    Worth watching. They used fighters off the Muay Thai circuit instead of stuntmen and just punched each other. 😂

    Everyone who read the books or that knows the source material well enough for Dune understands that Feyd only posed a real threat to Paul simply because Paul could not see fully what future awaited him when they faced. There is a narrow way through.” As he says this there’s a literal one second clip of him killing Feyd with the close up of his knife plunged into his cousins chest intercut between the frames. That is what Paul was referring to with that line that he couldn’t fully see the fate of their encounter, which makes sense since he and Feyd were genetically two halves of the same coin that was supposed to produce the Kwisatz Haderach if he had been born a girl as planned by the Bene Gesserit. But this is to counter or oppose the first half of the story, where his prescience wasn’t fully unlocked but he could see Jamis’ demise so clearly. It brought a lot of great storytelling to those audience members who were not familiar with the book or were oblivious to this series in general. I’m so glad so many people enjoyed the fight. I loved it and much like many people here, my theater was also dead silent during that entire sequence. The tension was truly palpable. A great fight scene, not for its choreography but for what it evoked in us as spectators and how it held our attention so fully even for those who knew how it would turn out, it is still always so thrilling and enjoyable to watch.

    The 96% unsubscribed stat is WILD. This is good content and it's consistent. It's not like Marcus made a handful of videos that defied the algorithm and "popped off out of nowhere." You're getting these videos multiple times a week and it's entertaining and informative. Subscribing costs nothing. I could get if it's like 50/50...people just watch one off videos or are too lazy to press subscribe/like buttons in general, but 96% feels ABSURDLY HIGH. Am I wrong?
    Also Marcus if you're reading this comment I have to plug my recommendation for a Cinderella Man (again) just because it's my favorite movie of all time. So many good, high stakes fight sequences to work off of!

      I will say it for myself, as one of the not-subscribed. And the main problem for me is this: subscribing costs unwanted videos appearing in youtube feed and it's not exactly what you would want. It's not the the content is not good - it's that it is the same. I may want to watch one video about good or bad fights at some time, but it does not necessarily mean, that i would want to watch ten of the thing. Or want to see them in my feed for that matter.
      Soo... yeah. That's the main problem for me. I admit, it may not be universal, but i think, there are at least some people with that opinion

      @@MarcusFlemmings Probably. But it does not make much sense to first subscribe, and then manually hide your content from the feed, does it? If you look at it from a point of casual viewer, i mean. To put it simply - why bother, if i can just watch a video, like it, and move ahead, if i don't want top watch another video like that? Or, alternatively, i can watch the whole series of videos, like and again - move elsewhere.
      Or, i can go "hard way", i can watch a video, like, subscribe and then will have to either take the fact, that now these videos would be in my feed, or would have to manually remove them from it. And honestly, what is the point for me to bother with that?
      Again - it's not a jab at your direction, it's more a general problem with how youtube works. Because i, as a viewer, from the youtube logic ether always want to watch everything all the time from the people, i am subscribed to, or i don't, and there is no in-between.

      @@kiriruro I think that you take your RUclips feed way more seriously than almost anyone else on the platform. Subscribing to a channel that publishes 2 videos a week is not that intrusive. If it's a channel that puts out daily videos and regular community posts, that's different, but you can easily turn off notifications on that case.
      The fact of the matter is, you watched this channel's video, so the algorithm is going to throw you more from this channel at some point given that it's a growing channel with consistent uploads. Unless you go out of your way to tell RUclips that you don't want to be shown this channel ever lol...but at that point why even waste your time commenting here.

    The "Out of reach" Seagal scene is definitely not CGI or green screen. It was filmed in the main building of Warsaw Technical University. I remember I almost walked into a fake wall where there should've been stairs when they put up some props for filming.

    Interesting part about the reaction shots, You are absolutely right about the drama, the verve tightening it adds to a fight, but in Dune I felt it a little bit... over the line. I was watching it with some friends and was going like :Yep Javier is still in the movie, we remember". But it's a personal preference innit. I think Raid by that time spoiled me with how focused the fights were and I fell in love with the focus of the fight, who knows.
    But boy oh boy did I enjoy the video. TMNT, Tomorrow never dies, casual slap to the presumably paralyzed face of Seagal, it's like I am back in the early naughties developing my taste for movies, such a treat!

    I know I'm a month behind the times, but I wish that you had covered the Balon vs Ahsoka fight scene from Ahsoka as well. While Rasario's performance is still slow, it comes off much more clearly measured and hesitant, which makes sense for facing an opponent as skilled and battle-hardened and - frankly - LARGE opponents such as Balon. That fight was thrilling, and really cool from a Star Wars nerd's POV, because each of Balon's moves were clearly inspired by medieval knight fighting AND were moves literally from the Jedi textbooks on saber fighting.
    It made for a great fight, and I feel comparing it to the Anakin vs Ahsoka fight would have helped highlight some of your points, because it shows when Rosario's lackluster fighting performance was used and edited CORRECTLY. Love the videos, btw, keep it up

    You mentioned reaction shots. Again, Kurosawa changed the game. The standoff in Seven Samurai with the bandit holding a hostage uses reactions to stunning effect (live speed reactions, death in slow motion), and the duel between Katsushiro and the proud Ronin was breathtaking. You gasp in horror and awe with the crowd. Incredible.

    I have no idea if you’ve done it yet but if not, dear god you need to cover the first fight scene of Extraction.
    Has some of the hardest hitting and most well choreographed fighting I’ve seen in recent times. The impact of every hit is astoundingly real. Visceral is an understatement.

    I'd really love to see you talk about T-800 vs T-1000 fight scenes. It basically has everything: good choreography (you feel those are heavy machines fighting, not some lightweighted humans), high stakes, heavy blows and unbeatable enemy

    I wouldn't mind you covering Gross Pointe Blank's fight scene. As someone who has taken martial arts and been (unfortunately) in a few street fights, I find this to be one of the MOST realistic fights I've ever seen. You see a fight start off with clear moves but then slowly devolve as you both get quickly tired. They even show that when you pull off a successful block you still take damage.

    The best fight scene ever filmed was in the movie "They Live" between Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David. It was freaking brutal, and all because Piper's character was trying to get David's character to put on a pair of sunglasses.
    South Park did a remake of the fight when Jimmy fought Timmy and tried to get him to "put on the hat" instead of "put on the glasses."
    It was almost an exact copy of the original fight. So unbelievably violent. It was great!!!

    That's why I think the fight between Aquiles and Hector in Troy is one of the best fight sequences. Dune reminded me of these, not because of the combat technique, but because of the brutality, what is at stake and that you clearly see 2 formidable opponents with one in superiority, but everything is loaded with drama, the prince fights under sight of everyone and no one can do anything, this is a duel to the death between 2.

    YEEES! 1990 TMNT Shredder fight is truly special and it didn't need to be brutal because its supposed to be a kids movie where pretty much all the fights are not really brutal. And yeah its got huge nostalgia points for me too but I love it from the moment Shredder makes his entrance to the camera angles, most of the editing, even some of the slow motion parts and its the kind of fight Hollywood will never try to recreate without CGI which is a real shame.
