    I love the final fight in Rashomon - it shows you what a real fight to the death probably would have looked like in a lot of cases. Nothing flashy or cool, just fear and adrenaline.

      In every film, he would take down an entire Yakuza clan, sometimes even more, averaging about 40 men each time. However, his dice-playing tricks were truly exceptional.

    Normally I really despise narration in a video but you actually added to to with your narration rather than talking during the important stuff or saying the obvious things. 10/10 video. Fastest ten minutes I've spent on RUclips.

    Twilight Samurai's fight is my most memorable simply because Hiroyuki Sanada was the poor samurai who did his duty for his family and his duel was out of desperation not bravado.

      @410cultivar I agree, but Seibei was conflicted and he wanted to let the warrior go. Hiroyuki was portraying a man making split second decisions, he wasn't primed for battle.

    • @hiroprotagonist525
      @hiroprotagonist525 5 месяцев назад +7

      @@410cultivar if you look carefully (and pause a lot), you'll see he draws with his left hand, not with his right, and the blade is angled with the cutting edge up, not down, this is how he was able to make that move. It's a crazy move, but it is in fact, a real move. As an aside, it is my contention that the entire movie is a set-up for this one shot!

    Gohatto, 7 samurai (A. Kurosawa), RAN, Thirteen Assassins (2010), Throne of blood, Kagemusha...are some films that contain very good sword fights, both individual and in battles.

    What about The Twilight Samurai (たそがれ清兵衛, literally "Twilight Seibei") ist a 2002 Japanese historical drama film co-written and directed by Yoji Yamada and starring Hiroyuki Sanada and Rie Miyazawa. Set in mid-19th century Japan, a few years before the Meiji Restoration, it follows the life of Seibei Iguchi, a low-ranking samurai employed as a bureaucrat. Poor, but not destitute, he still manages to lead a content and happy life with his daughters and his mother, who has dementia. Through an unfortunate turn of events, the turbulent times conspire against him.
    The film was inspired by the short story "The Bamboo Sword" by Shuhei Fujisawa.[1] The Twilight Samurai won an unprecedented 12 Japanese Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay. The Twilight Samurai was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 76th Academy Awards.

    What; no 'Seven Samurai'? 😁
    The famous duel at the end of 'Sanjuro'; the SF team somewhat overdid the pressure of the blood gush, the force of which nearly knocked the cut actor off his feet. The surprise of the onlookers was a genuine reaction, so the director Kurosawa kept it in the final cut. It's recently been discovered, on analysis that a shorter katana was used in this left hand draw scene, though there are YT videos of Iaidoka who have performed it with a standard blade, but not with an opponent!

E.g. all the fight scenes in the 26 part series Nemuri Korishuro and the same actor in another series The Fateful mountain Pass, of which 17 have been up loaded. But the most recent version of a film called the 13 assassins is worth a look also.

    Machibuse (Incident at Blood Pass) is a film many might not know of. It is the second of the films featuring both Toshiro Mifune and Shintaro Katsu. Katsu is not playing Zatoichi in this one so if you want to see him when he is not playing a blind character this is a good option. Overall it is not a great film but it has it good moments along with some dialog between Katsu and Mifune.

    The final duel in Sanjuro should be number 1. Not only for the fight choreography but for the historical significance of the scene. The massive shower of blood was actually a mistake, the pressure was to high and when the mechanism was triggered the huge geyser of blood erupted. Though a mistake this has become the staple in all chanbara films since.
