    I still can't believe how this video got only 440k views in over two years! Like, what are these young designers looking for on the internet? Man!
    This video is gold and could easily be sold as a 200 dollar online course. I'm dead serious.
    I watch it everytime I work on a big logo project. This is like the 10th time. When the designing is done and presentation is on the horizon I always come back (just like now) to get focused and reminded on what matters, because you forget some things when doing other stuff beside logos.
    Kids wanna charge big for a logo but don't learn enough how to justify the price tag. My logos are maybe no better than average, but I do all the things beside designing (including a great presentation), and with all that I can charge 5-7 k without negotiating. That's why this video is so great.

    Once I presented a logo to a client in a beachflag and billboard mockup and they never thought about it to show their new brand that way.
    So my next job was to create that billboard and beachflag.

    I have watched this in 2020. Well, I've had issues presenting logos to clients,
    A friend of mine once called me a dictator as I always presented one option of Artwork, Be it logo, poster or business card e.t.c. to my client(s).
    I started presenting the same logo design in 3 different versions but with a few tweaks and this gave my clients the sense of choice.
    I don't really ask for feedback or comments, as Like you have said. "I send mail or Whatsapp" Am changing that effective immediately.
    This has been useful to me.

    • @lesterjonathans
      @lesterjonathans 2 года назад

      I am quite that dictator too, And What i do nowadays is share sketches before hitting illustrator then tweak the final one into 3 related ... Plus, I share jpg in black and white and a mockup that best suites the brand.
      I don't ask for feedback either, Because worse you do bring it, You have to explain properly ( Haha )...
      I love watching this video, Will create this kind of presentation according to Mr. Ben Barnes and share on my Behance...

    • @MarekMatysiak
      @MarekMatysiak 6 лет назад +9

      I've been there too. A simple solution to that - stop naming files "final" :) I always put a timestamp information at the end of the file i.e. project-name-logo-201810251230.ai (which is YYYYMMDDHHMM)

    This is the first time I EVER write a comment on RUclips but I just feel like I have to.
    I usually open like 4 tabs randomly from videos I would like to watch within the next hour. So I did, and I was watching "I Wish I Knew This When I Started: Logo Design". The second one was this and I was just completely shocked to realize the same guy on the previous video was this one. I even went to the other video again to check his face and name just to be sure.
    It is amazing what The Futur did to him. In the first video, he was just shy and with low self-steem, telling the story of how he used to charge only US$50.00 for a logo. Now, I see this amazing guy who knows what he's talking about, with tons of confidence and find myself learning so much from him. Now he looks like he could charge US$10,000.00 for a logo.
    The Futur, you only know how to do magic with people. Thank you for all you give us. Watching you is way better than any school or institute.
    Good vibes to you all.

    Mister Ben Burns, you're the man.
    Thank you for helping me tighten my presentations. Very, very instructive, especially the reasons on WHY you are doing it that way, like the "ego boost" part.
    Here in Nairobi, Kenya, we normally do slide 1 and slide 2 for all the three options and then do the "Step Four - Compare all Options". Get the client to "feel" and choose one. We then do have another presentation where we show the mockups. Between the two presentations, the client asks for changes and choice of the visuals for presentation (within reason) that are then presented at the "Mockups" (Slide 4 - 6) presentation. That way the client gets brought in further into the brand and we get to do less scattered work.
    My take is that its is a "culture" difference and we the designers get to choose how we are going to do it. Works very well for a small design boutique.

    This is great advice and methodology. Looking back on the identity freelance work I have done in the past, I realized that sometimes being too transparent can also be a bad thing. You want to include the client in the creation process but don't forget that you are the professional that they hired for a reason. don't be afraid to guide the direction of the project and give your honest professional opinion and show how that would be of benefit to the client in the end. Love that this video lists the slides step by step, and helps to eliminate the prospect of scope creep.

    You guys are Awsome! I started watching your RUclips videos and now I’m addicted to the level of professionalism that you guys have introduced me to! I have subscribed to your channel and now I look for anything with your stamp. You answer a lot of questions that to some is simple maybe, but I spend hours toiling over to create a process. I have never wanted to be apart of decreasing value of our trade, and you guys are definitely a value added resource to our trade! Thank you very much!

    I like this video format better. He is calm and direct. It didnt take almost 40 minutes to go through the banter of the other 2 who hosted previous videos (who are great)...its just easier to digest the info in this format.

    I appreciate the "Psychology of Client Presentation", is there a Futur video featuring mostly Emily's part targeting behance / dribble / artstation style portfolio presentation platforms?

    Thanks Ben! I'm starting my design career and one question I have had around presenting my work is "what are the right questions to ask for when reviewing my work?". Guiding the feedback towards the user persona and asking if the work moves us closer to our goal are two insights I will definitely be keeping in mind on my next presentation.

    Ben Burns, thank you, thank you, one thousand times thank you. This is the best christmas gift I got.
    PS:
    I know asking "did we miss our mark completely?" is meant to break the ice. But doesn't that give the impression of being insecure of your work and results? wouldn't it be better to show more confidence at the end of the presentation, and breaking the ice in another way?

      @thefutur  7 лет назад +7

      i'm with you on the icebreaker comment. i guess we all have to come up with a line that works for us. i think when he's staying that, he's being sarcastic (because we usually over deliver) that it becomes obvious.

    • @wisherwatch

      Yes, underpromise - overdeliver. Simple but a robust technique that wins.

    SUPER SUPER AMAZING! Really learned a lot of new things and made a lot of notes. @Ben I would like to ask is Emily's link removed or was it missed uploading at first place? As so many people have asked for it too. Thanks again you and Team Futur :)

    Great stuff .. i dropped out of my college to start my own venture and for a very long period there was this thick cloud what i later came to realize was imposter syndrome untill I started watching your videos and realized every designer goes through this and the only thing that matters is the grit to preserve and eventually it all starts coming together.
    This channel is great help. Can't say this enough.
    Keep up the good work. 👍

    another question, what if you don't do a new identity for an existing company. what if I do an identity for a completely new company? (this question is targeted to "our goal is to build a new visual identity that...")

    Not all projects allow to do such developed presentations. Perhaps you guys only do big projects with big numbers. But how should smaller projects be done? Also this already goes into branding and identity design. When the first step is a logo, its kind of hard to do all the extra work for the mockups. Most need a design which is kinda making the brand. DOing this for all proposals is much work. That probably means you use big numbers for making a logo. I find the mockup process to be more like branding. Though it does help the client get a better feeling on how his/her logo will look and feel.

      Dang Emily uses a big ass tablet!!! holy smokes. She must be doing paint jobs or so, i use a wacom small i find it faster to move around with that.

      Its true that is a lot of extra work, but that extra work is both billable and valuable to the client and it is of tremendous help in the long run to have a solid foundation for your brand.

    • @RomboutVersluijs
      @RomboutVersluijs 6 лет назад

      @@andreimariuteac your missing the point, not of it's a small client and thus not billable you make a quote #o you know what you will make on this project. Billable is when you work per hour

    OK... First, I love the video and especially Ben's style. But, a couple of things. Watch Bill Burr's comments on Apple AKA Steve Jobs. It's right on. Nerd Jesus hahaha. Next Apple computers represent give or take 10% of computers worldwide. I feel Ben's comments on Keynote not being a Windows app were disrespectful. Apple is an OS just like Windows Linux Google and others. That's all it is. It's not Nirvana. Hello? Adobe has more Windows users than Apple. Most Adobe tutorials on RUclips rightfully recognize this. Ben talks about Photoshop. Again. Hello? Who cares if you are running Photoshop on a Mac or a Windows device??? Or download Storyblocks content on whatever device/OS of your choice. Keep up the good work Ben. Don't betray your non-hip heritage. It's what makes your videos appealing (as other commentators have noted).
