Absolutely, Crimson is the winner, it was well presented and well designed, it looks and feels luxurious and it's easily recognized as a sub-brand to Swiss airlines. Sharif did an incredible job and it was super inspiring.

I am exactly like Conor when I am in school. I did well in CGPA and my porfolio were WILD and all over the place. All together they don't make a good portfolio, they looked like experimentations. I take your compliment at Conor on him being confidence and wild, no teachers told that to me. I was told that secretly the teachers hated me. Now that I am in 4th years of operating a studio I founded, I can say I tuned down a lot! And everytime I wanted to try something different new and go wild, I always take one step back and only be expressive on parts that I think is suitable. My general rule is to have a pinch of crazy ideas in a stew of practical concept. I used to be like you Conor! But trust me I grew so much when I am a good listener, and when I tamed my inner horses. Chris is kind enough to praise your confident, but the society might not be. I still not a good follower now, but I am getting better everyday.
I think the Ace design was beautiful, but he missed understanding the end user. It didn't feel luxurious at all. It felt youthful and vibrant, and might work as a program for young hustling professionals. The Swiss Airlines work was the strongest by far at capturing the intention of the design exercise.
This channel is my saviour. Can't thank you enough. It feels bad that we were not privileged enough to have professor like you to have this much open n detailed discussion on weekly basis. I agree, I think the suggestion he made would have made it look cheap... The original fits perfectly to the brand, as the applications are really bold, the softeness of Didot doesn't feel disconnected to Lufthansa's identity.

I really, really enjoy this series! I think it is perfect! It has everything...it gifts the participants with a hands-on education most of us would kill for; it gives the rest of us the virtual experience of such a mentorship; it's highly educational; it showcases Chris, his design expertise, his thoughtfulness, his elite teaching skills, and the company and staff. And, most importantly, Young Guns inspires!!! 😊 I think it has real longevity potential. I hope the all-female Young Guns is not the last Young Guns! Keep it going! xo P.S. I think Arun's mistakes were the easiest to correct. They were flagrant...but fixable. But, after saying that, you could likely argue that about any one of them. As good as the Young Guns all are, they, too, have quite a bit of room for improvement. It is very hard to judge, and everyone has their own grading biases. I appreciate Chris and the futur for giving guidance to these young talents!
I’m a modern self defense school owner who doesn’t have enough capital to pay someone to do marketing and branding - so I put on my big boy pants and I’m learning all aspects of funnel systems and “ packaging “ because packaging sells it . Our instruction is top quality and our look should reflect it . I have a whole NEW approach to branching and online coaching . Tried and true proven things with some minor tweaks to improvements that will mean better service and more $$$$ I’ve been an artist all my life so it’s fun to learn from and be exposed to things I would never be able to live another life to go back to school - you give me a chance to grow !!!!

I agree on most of the critique with your Chris. The luxury part is absent for me in most of the designs. On the contrary, there is a low-cost feel in some. Perhaps it's a cohesiveness with the parent brand thing, but American Airlines one does not feel premium either. It looks young, playful and fun, rather than luxurious and professional. That faint grunge pattern on the front of the business card does not help the cause either. Think I like Crimson the most

I think that if i ranked them: 1. CRIMSON: everything was on point, i think chris should have given him more promps as he did with AAce, Sharif really set the bar since Ep. 1 and here he really puts himself at the level of emily with emerald.🔴 2. AAce: the pattern was the killer shot (in a good way) it was perfectly applied throughout the applications⏭⏬⏫ - Putting both of them side by side, crimsom wins on logo and refined quality and Aace wins on pattern and brand liquidness ... so for me at the end they both share the first place🏅 3. Nest, dispite the selection of Didot (it looks good don't get me wrong) and the critics from Chris, The Symbol was magnificent, really exceptional and the applications dont even say some 🙌🏻 4. Serenity ⚜ i think it just needed to go the extra mile and another 10-20% beyond the 100% because the concept & the logo were good but they appeared to be the 'final-brand.file' instead of the 'final final brand.file' 5. JET2VIP🚄 i think it was a bad choose to begin with because despite understanding the challenge & difficulty behind the selection, just the main logo, compared to the others, lacks professionalism and he even said on the part 1 that he wasn't happy with some details ... the other four selected airlines had well designed logos so thats a plus when it comes to looking if, at the end, your proposal achieved the level of those brands.

Unfortunately I had to prioritise other things at the time so I didn't put all of my effort into this project, leading it to feel lacklustre. But we all learn and move forward!
They are all fantastic work. I do feel sympathetic for the indian designer. In constrast to other designers the color palette totally was different. Might have to do with the culture. India perceives colors different from the way we do. Prob thats why we related his aesthetic design to a spa or feminine vine rather than luxurious. But very impressed.!

The Nest logo: the three lines in the feather are different through out the video. Consistency in the brand is very important, especially in the logo/icon.
Great coving on them Chris. I’d agree that the jet2 is a hard choice and needs to be tighter. The middle one was very nice and the first he did good to pull it back and get something working from the first week. Wish I could go back to uni and do some of these ideas for presentation and putting things in the real world I don’t remember people on my course doing. We knew our design felt flat but not seen how to make it pop with these simple ideas.

Regarding Connors design - there is nothing I respect more than a designer who sticks to their guns. It’s bravery and the only way design will be pushed forward. The trick is that is has to work and his design just didn’t work. It’s like driving backward in Mario Kart... you might hit every lap twice as fast as the next player but if you’re driving backward, it doesn’t matter. You have to be heading in the right direction.
I appreciate your comment thank you for the feedback! I'm probably going to end up making my own video on this experience but for now here's my thoughts. At the time of this project I was and still am in the busiest period of my business to date. This project came on top of all of that and unfortunately I had to prioritise my time elsewhere which meant I didn't put 100% focus into this. I know it could have been better, some people might say I "half arsed" it but, ultimately at the end of the day I was never in this series to be the best. I was never in Young Guns to "prove my worth" I was here to grow and learn as a designer and charge my path forward. So from a personal perspective, in comparison to where I was when this series started, this lacklustre project is a blip on my timeline.
I enjoyed this series so much and learn a lot from it. Thanks a lot futur teams. By the way it's really interesting how they created mockup. I'd like to learn some technique on how did you guys created some mockups. Perhaps some tutorial on the futur academy channel or share it as a course on the futur academy site. Kudos to you guys:)
but, i do agree with your last sentence of idk when it is. But sometimes opportunity gives us a flexible thing to do, like in this case to design something what we want, that looks fun and we think that we will enjoy the process... but sometimes we just think it would be so easy because the opportunity said that we can make design as what we want.. so tricky. I've got this same mistakes, when a Graphic Design Professor asked me to design a holiday card and mine just came out as what i want to make, and now i realized how not so good is that and she never talked to me anymore since then....... never do the same sh*t is a lesson... thx Chris

I disagree with your critique of Nest - it looked really professional, luxurious. The deconstructed Nest would have looked too modern, whereas his overall system speaks to European timeless luxury. Its a tie between The Nest and Crimson. Based on overall presentation, I'd probably say Crimson.
Personally, I love to see the way they explore and put lots of thought on their design. The first one done a good job on creating branding but yes, when we take it to airways system, it seems not fit and too "spa" look. But the way he integrate the color is nice. The "Crimson" logo took me immediaterly to the old citibank logo. But He did good with the application. The AACe one in my opinion practically the best on both design and application. The one with "nest" idea, done good with the presentation. And I agree that it might not fit with german style. Unless he can convince the client to take the risk for having out of the box style and get more modern. The last one is the risk taker. And somehow this kind of approach could work with the client but not in real application or vice versa.
I really want to learn how they do mockups that are so perfect and aligned with the brand. Normally, the way I do it is to go online and find some available template mockups that fit the stylescape to put my design in with some tweaks and color corrections here and there. If I couldnt find any, I would try to find some photos to do the mockups from scratch. What would be the better workflow? Since I personally feel it takes me way too much just to find the right mockups. I actually would want to see how Sharif makes his mockups since I am really curious how he made Swiss' ticket in passport mockups from scratch with only photos. Love this ep!
Use a paid membership website like envato. 15 euros for a month. This mockups are 10x better than the free ones online and you get many more things like fonts and photos for that 15 euro
@@maarten_ I also notice that. But I'm talking about how to make the mockups like that of Sharif's work where he used existing photos and made them into a mockup. So that when all the resources online are not qualified, I still have something up my sleeves to pull out.
If the Swiss airline guy and the American airline guy join forces, they would be unstoppable, Swiss airline is good at story telling and presentation meanwhile the American airline is super creative and original.
💯 Percent agree with you Chris, it's important to learn from feedback, take it on board, only stick to your gun if it will do a better job of producing great high quality work with a different direction that fulfills the criteria. But overall all the young guns have talent, some truly amazing work. Chris that ending though left me hanging 😮😶💔
My first thought about the brand name "nest" and its color concept was the association with the brand Nestlé. Here in Germany, Lufthansa has a very good reputation, while Nestlé has a quite bad image. So my guess would be that the name choice would cause a rather difficult start for the brand to work.

If Arun had gone with Spice Jet, he could have called the premium class "Saffron." Saffron is one of the most expensive spices on earth and has a red and yellow color scheme just like the airline.
If you watched episode 9, I gave the reasoning why I picked Vistara And this Saffron idea was the instant one when we got the assignment and being on the show I learnt that first ideas aren't usually the best ones 😂😂
Great video and good job to all the guys that submitted their designs. Loved the constructive criticism. My favorite note is about kerning and how you need to look at the volume between letters and not just the spacing. Side note, can you please not use the phrase "play with it"? That is one of those infuriating phrases that clients say all time.

I'm probably going to end up making my own video on this experience but for now here's my thoughts.
At the time of this project I was and still am in the busiest period of my business to date. This project came on top of all of that and unfortunately I had to prioritise my time elsewhere which meant I didn't put 100% focus into this.
I know it could have been better, some people might say I "half arsed" it but, ultimately at the end of the day I was never in this series to be the best. I was never in Young Guns to "prove my worth" I was here to grow and learn as a designer and charge my path forward.
So from a personal perspective, in comparison to where I was when this series started, this lacklustre project is a blip on my timeline.
So what does sticking to your guns when your guns are wrong get you? I suppose a learning opportunity! ;)
Would love to see an UI challenge in Young Guns 2! :)

I enjoyed this series so much and learn a lot from it. Thanks a lot futur teams. By the way it's really interesting how they created mockup. I'd like to learn some technique on how did you guys created some mockups. Perhaps some tutorial on the futur academy channel or share it as a course on the futur academy site. Kudos to you guys:)

but, i do agree with your last sentence of idk when it is. But sometimes opportunity gives us a flexible thing to do, like in this case to design something what we want, that looks fun and we think that we will enjoy the process... but sometimes we just think it would be so easy because the opportunity said that we can make design as what we want.. so tricky. I've got this same mistakes, when a Graphic Design Professor asked me to design a holiday card and mine just came out as what i want to make, and now i realized how not so good is that and she never talked to me anymore since then....... never do the same sh*t is a lesson... thx Chris

I disagree with your critique of Nest - it looked really professional, luxurious. The deconstructed Nest would have looked too modern, whereas his overall system speaks to European timeless luxury. Its a tie between The Nest and Crimson. Based on overall presentation, I'd probably say Crimson.
You really don't seem to understand German Lufthansa in light of his critique. Nest did have consistent elements, but wasn't as well of a fit.

The Serenity word by itself, feels like a logo already with the customised "R"
as native german speaker i must say the name nest convinced me instantly

Maybe a litte off topic but i really like the typography/style of the new Dune movie, both minimalistic but still recognizable
Personally, I love to see the way they explore and put lots of thought on their design. The first one done a good job on creating branding but yes, when we take it to airways system, it seems not fit and too "spa" look. But the way he integrate the color is nice. The "Crimson" logo took me immediaterly to the old citibank logo. But He did good with the application. The AACe one in my opinion practically the best on both design and application. The one with "nest" idea, done good with the presentation. And I agree that it might not fit with german style. Unless he can convince the client to take the risk for having out of the box style and get more modern. The last one is the risk taker. And somehow this kind of approach could work with the client but not in real application or vice versa.
I really want to learn how they do mockups that are so perfect and aligned with the brand. Normally, the way I do it is to go online and find some available template mockups that fit the stylescape to put my design in with some tweaks and color corrections here and there. If I couldnt find any, I would try to find some photos to do the mockups from scratch. What would be the better workflow? Since I personally feel it takes me way too much just to find the right mockups.
I actually would want to see how Sharif makes his mockups since I am really curious how he made Swiss' ticket in passport mockups from scratch with only photos.

Use a paid membership website like envato. 15 euros for a month. This mockups are 10x better than the free ones online and you get many more things like fonts and photos for that 15 euro
@@maarten_ I also notice that. But I'm talking about how to make the mockups like that of Sharif's work where he used existing photos and made them into a mockup. So that when all the resources online are not qualified, I still have something up my sleeves to pull out.
I like Arun's work, it retains a certain indian desgin element which makes it recognizable
If the Swiss airline guy and the American airline guy join forces, they would be unstoppable, Swiss airline is good at story telling and presentation meanwhile the American airline is super creative and original.

💯 Percent agree with you Chris, it's important to learn from feedback, take it on board, only stick to your gun if it will do a better job of producing great high quality work with a different direction that fulfills the criteria. But overall all the young guns have talent, some truly amazing work.

My first thought about the brand name "nest" and its color concept was the association with the brand Nestlé. Here in Germany, Lufthansa has a very good reputation, while Nestlé has a quite bad image. So my guess would be that the name choice would cause a rather difficult start for the brand to work.

Quick question, unrelated to the episode. What are all the books under the table that look the same?
If Arun had gone with Spice Jet, he could have called the premium class "Saffron." Saffron is one of the most expensive spices on earth and has a red and yellow color scheme just like the airline.
If you watched episode 9, I gave the reasoning why I picked Vistara
And this Saffron idea was the instant one when we got the assignment and being on the show I learnt that first ideas aren't usually the best ones 😂😂

Great video and good job to all the guys that submitted their designs. Loved the constructive criticism. My favorite note is about kerning and how you need to look at the volume between letters and not just the spacing.
Side note, can you please not use the phrase "play with it"? That is one of those infuriating phrases that clients say all time.
