Your skills are manifold. I was raised around people just like this including my mother the wood carver/furniture maker and my father the mechanical engineer who saw the world as a conveyor belt of raw material to make beautiful things out of. I thought this type of all around artisan was a dying breed but I see there's still a few of us left. Well done.
Thank you sir!! Thank you for he love & respect !
:)
Hey man that move with the table saw, in a million years, I don't think I would have thought or considered carving like that. Very innovative! Thanks for sharing your skills.
This video changed my life. Since i saw this axe come to life i decided to do some wood work, and now it became a side job. Everythig i learned about wood, i have to thank you.
damn this guy has so much skill and made this look so easy it makes me feel like I can do this in my backyard!
INCREDIBLE!!!
Yes!!!! 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
+jimmydiresta Hey Jimmy, I just wanted to say you're incredible and your videos along with guys like Paul Sellers have taught me everything I know about wood working and over the last year I've learned so much, starting February I'm going to be apprenticed to a carpenter family friend. I was really impressed at how sharp the axe came out when you did the initial sharpening, you're really good at putting convex edges on axes! It's easy to mess up the geometry. That's one of the most beautiful axes I've ever seen. :D
By far the best restoration video on RUclips. Please, please, please do more of these...!
Screw everyone, I loved the dark finish on the handle. This is a work of art.
You make all your projects look so easy Jimmy. I appreciate each one.
How can anybody give a thumbs down. Haters in all trades I see. Wonderful Craftsmanship!!!👍🏾👍🏾
Absolutely

watched it again... and again. Love you man
Love you man !
+jimmydiresta I love your videos
make a video of making something crazy

Seen A lot of things...Never see a man have to make rubber casting for hanging an axe before. Let me guess, New Yoke City? And you did it under duress. What was your name again
+HOSSMCGILLICUTTI from the few comments i received from you today .. seems your offended by me? if you ever had a video taken buy live leak and or break.com and edited so your credit was removed you would understand why my branding appears through out all my newer videos. if i am offending you with my visuals you can look away.
+HOSSMCGILLICUTTI the chrome plater had the axe while was making the handle .. the reason for the cast of the eye. reference
jimmydiresta No offense meant, just seems a little silly, (the molding ) and i bet if you had to do it again, you'd do it different. You seem to brite for that idea.
How many single bit'd axe eye sockets are there? Ive seen a total of one
+HOSSMCGILLICUTTI so you argument is i should have know from memory because you know what all the axe eyes look like?.. not having a second one in the shop..... ?? i make molds all the time . this would be simple for me , maybe not for you ..
Thank you sir just watched video with fire axe. Made me happy to watch after I have been fireman for 30 years it was just amazing to watch you bring the axe back to life
Honestly amazing that you can turn a rusted axe head into a thing of beauty. True legend of metal and wood you are, man.
Does it reinforce with normal Titanite?
Twinkling Titanite, sorry to say : ( lol
+Grom Helsky But can it be infused?
Any weapon that is upgraded with Twinkling Titanite cannot be infused :(
Grom Helsky omfg it's going to be shit in PvP.
Cheezy Shitburger but its a small weapon so people will just r1 spam and win anyway.
Love this channel, I get no ads. Lot of effort goes into each video. Not boring to watch. Thank you. 👍
why so dark? that natural wood color would of looked nice..
I agree
cuz it looks fing kick ass
+freedomtoclick In my opinion, the black makes it stand out from many other wooden axes. It seems like a personalized touch that Jimmy added to stand out from other axes.
Could I please make a correction to your sentence?
if you are asking me, please do i like to learn new things every day.. thank you..
I was hoping he would chop a slit in a door, peek his head in and say heres Jimmy. But nah
+Multi Bear I'm back hoooome honey!
+GUIDO VROLA DESIGN كل هههه من انت
+Multi Bear its actually "its johnny" but that's none of my business
+blops blop His name is Jimmy though. It's in the channel name.
+blops blop It's actually "Here's Johnny" but that's none of my business
Man...
Nostalgia hit me like a freight train.
Good memories.
Loved everything except the black paint on the handle. Would've much preferred an oil/wax finish.
+Soulman1282 Also, you need a welt on that axe mask. As is, you've got the edge of your axe banging against metal rivets.
+Soulman1282 I was watching the vid, not agreeing with all the methods but ah well - the result was looking REALLY good, I loved the way the handle looked. Then I saw black, and I wanted to go and punch the maker of this video. One does NOT simply PAINT a handle, just like one does not kill a puppy. The natural colour and patterns of wood are the most beautiful thing you can get on there, and oil is the best way to preserve it
+Soulman1282 Oh, and as for the rivets... yeah, that or copper rivets. This just hurts
+Wizard Kagdan except that it's not paint it's a dark stain you can see him put on the stain wait a bit and then wipe it off and after that he put a coat of linseed oil on it
+Soulman1282 So you must be racist, huh?

Nice axe, meatbag.
Blows smoke, walks off.
So long, losers!
The speed at which you work is phenomenal!!
Enjoyed The Restoration!
Whoa! That is the sexiest axe!

I remember watching these kinds of videos as a kid, now I'm addicted to watching forged weapons and sword restoration.
I was a bit put off by the color choice for the handle, but it's your prerogative.
I was wondering, do you plan to sell that axe? If so, I think the huge signature on the blade guard is a bit on the cheesy side. If it's just for personal use, it makes sense, since you could easily distinguish which axe is yours. But, if it's meant to be sold, a smaller "fancier" signature of some sort, in place of *BIG BLOCK LETTERS*, might have complemented the blade guard a bit better. Just a thought. :)
I'll take your advice and respectfully disregard it.
+jimmydiresta Haters gonna hate!
jimmydiresta Fair enough.
Lee Adler Not sure if you meant me or him with that comment, but if it was directed at me, I would hardly say that I hated the end result, as it was certainly much better than I could have possibly done. I just wasn't crazy about it, so I thought it could be valuable to input constructive criticism. He disagreed, so whatever. If I said something like "hurdur, looks stupid xdDDD!" that would be a hater hating. Simply saying where I felt there was room for even more improvement would not.
I don't feel like the reply Jimmy gave was all that bad either. He clearly liked how it looked or else he would have taken my advice. I don't believe that he would have been offended by what I would have said, as he seems to be confident in his own abilities as a craftsman; I would be surprised if he would have taken any of what I said to heart.
TBH, it's the best possible outcome on both sides, considering the average level of civility in RUclips comments.
+Sawta whats going on i cant tell if there having an arguement or not

+epohnopulse I bet he pays out the ass for that. You'd think someone like him would have his own plating setup lol
Very beautiful bro! I think it should be donated to your local fire dept. They would be honored to display your beautiful work. Thanks you for your channel

Eine wunderschöne Feuerwehraxt. Klasse Arbeit. Als freiwilliger der FW gefällt es mir besonders.
Good job. But why an ax handle painted black? It is better to treat the oil. it would have been nicer.
pretty sure it is a black stain.
Would have been way better imo
+Владимир Нарцев it looks awesome!
I agree 👍
XxAnizzlexX it’s stained black it’s basically just black linseed oil
Highly Impressed, thankX 4 the video
That final product is a perfect ax to invite Paul Allen over for after dinner drinks.
Paul Allen is dead you fool.
Now that's an axe for The Shining. Here's Johnny! Well done Jimmy! :D
1SixScaleCrafter HERE'S JIMMY!
how does one learn to do this? it's incredible
Try. Fail. Repeat.
Also add a big workshop, materials and lots of tools... or at least access to use a workshop and tools.
sand blasting cabinet($150-$500 and about 5-10 sq ft of area to use), belt sander table($100-$300 3-8 sq ft), angle grinder($20-$100 store on a shelf, use on a work bench that takes up 20 sq ft), orbital sander($20-$50 shelf), band saw($200-$1000 10-20 sq ft to have enough room to use properly), table saw($100-$600 8-14 sq ft), reuse the bench and hand file($10) for fine shaping of the handle, leather punches and rivet tools($20-$100 used on the bench). To do the project as shown you need at least $1000(probably closer to $2000) for the equipment and over 100 sq ft of space. Not to say you couldnt do it with less and cheaper, but it'd take alot more time and effort. If you've had a shop for years the equipment lasts forever so once you pick up a tool it's easy to lose track of the whole cost over time and it doesnt cost much to store it, but building a shop from scratch is very expensive.
i asked the same question
and how to use all of these things and tools
100-600 $ for a table saw? Thats very cheap
Dude not only is this spectacular craftsman but you should teach folks how to do these type of DIY/ craftsman videos. I think I only hit the 10second FF once.
the part when he was filing the handle in fast forward sounded like the bee movie but faster

How long did you spend trying to figure out how to do video of sandblasting? :)
how does that work when you hit the end of the handle to get the axe head on. it isn't butted up against anything I figured it wouldn't do anything
+Jason Becker Recoil causes the heavy axe head to creep up the wood and since it's a snug fit it doesn't slide back down. It's a neat trick that pretty much anyone that knows what they're doing when making axes will employ.
I've seen him do it before and it makes sense the way you describe it but it totally goes against everything I ever learned haha. But thank you for the explanation it makes sense
+SeraphimKnight yep
***** out of sheer curiosity how come that way exceeds striking the head. I mean I believe you just wondering.
the weight of the axe head is used instead of butting it up against something . you get a better fit this way
Beautiful piece of hardware!! Great job!
I think Wranglerstar would be very jealous
+Holty He is too busy messing with Waelder to be jealous
+Holty Nah, Jimmy's work isn't "proper" enough for him... ;)
+Holty Wranglerstar gets upset when it's not "properly done"
+Holty I came to the comments section just to see how many "Wranglerstar" comments there were. Well done :)
He dose every thing by hand
The black paint ruins it so much it looked much better without it
It's his axe, make your own without the stain.
did I tell him to change it? no, i'm just stating my opinion that's what the comments section is for.
+jonathan lavigne You're stating it as if it is a fact. Your comment would have been less harsh and negative if you said, "I would have preferred a more natural axe handle."
sorry I hurt your feelings.
+jonathan lavigne You should learn the difference between a fact and an opinion. Your original comment was structured as a fact, but it is not a fact. I would love to see some of your projects.
This Guy is a master on His bandsaw. Incredible skills
how works the machine at the beginning ? the one which remove rust from the thing
It is a sandblaster
it throws sand on it and it remove dust ?
Yeah pretty much but it comes out very fast it's high pressure
Crazy x Freeze. Yes, actually it is a chamber in which you throw sand on an object using a sandblasting gun. Take a look at this video: ruclips.net/video/3sMhRP3Awnw/видео.html
Oh ok alright thank you ^^
And what happen if you put your hand in it ? It removes the skin ? xD I love to think what would happen with every machines on a man part
i would have kept the axe unpainted
rust protection
he means the handle...
+Edward Hosaon oh right, yeah same, but I would've bees waxed it
Be painted it to make it last longer
it's wood dye, not paint.
A beautiful piece of work! I didn't care for the black handle but still better than anything i could do.Beautiful Work for sure..

You have some mad skills. Fantastic work!
Find axe and why to solve the equation.
@Jimmy , may i asked what you used to color the handle? i can never get things that black , but then again iv only tried stain.
+Jimmydiresta want to know that too. By the way great Video as always
+Chris Smith Its wood stain. Simple as that. You can by it in nearly every hardwearstore.
+TheExplodingChipmunk lol
I know its a dye someone made for him i just was wondering where to get the stuff ,if he knows of a good company or something of sorts.
+Chris Smith check the video where he makes the black sitting bench with the huge dovetails i believe he mentions it there .
That's some mighty fine bluegrass playing in the shop there! Great project too. Looks gorgeous.
Ты чё такая дерзкая,
Найду умыкну.
Why would you paint the handle? And the handle is way too skinny for the Axe head...
Paint = Blisters and bad grip
maybe its a decorative piece??
+MarkUs FinSki It's not paint.
Thinner axe handles are often more durable and flexible. Google "The De-Evolution of the Axe Handle" for a good read on the subject.
Then what is it? Some kind of wood tint stuff?
how much does it cost to set up a small workshop like these at home? max to min? approximately?
the legendary kong depends on what kind of a deal you can find, as jimmy once said (not exact words) it’s better to buy a second hand tool of good quality than a new piece of crap, you can get the basics for like $100 if you look in the right places.
the legendary kong one really good place to look are flea markets occasionally you’ll find people who are just too old to do it anymore and are selling their equipment for a very good price. If you need an anvil you can actually make a really good one with two railroad tracks welded, sanded, and bolted to a log.
what a wonderful creation
Guess I'm the only one who likes the black handle ._.
+thedash3004 did you like black wood?
You're not the only one mate. The blakc handle makes it much sexier imo.

Very nice! Really enjoy watching restorations.
nice job as a decoration but a true fire axe never has the cutting end painted as during inspection you must inspect it for cracks also the finishing material is flammable beside like fire trucks fire axle must be red lol
These are fine axes, I have had mine 45 years, and it is a tremendous tool in the woods, built in picaroon as well ...

Wow! Great handcrafting!
3:58 that's a kickback waiting to happen
kick backs occur when the material comes under pressure against the rear of the blade. Running wood across the front of the blade will pull it down toward the table, not up and off.

its awesome!!

a axe like that one is always usefull to me and alot of others who live in a more traditional way such as cutting our own firewood
It is not meant to be used or else he wouldn't have chrome plated it.
that is an awesome ax how much would you sell it for? you are incredibly talented thanks for all the videos

Alternately, an axe handle can be purchased at your local hardware store for about $10. It probably won't have the name 'Diresta' stamped, stenciled, or burnt into it, though.
When you used that table saw to sand down the wood I cringed super fucking hard.
There are $300 wheel sanders you can buy with hold any type of grit sand paper.
