In this blacksmithing video, I will show you how I used a crowbar from the hardware store and forged it into a knife. This metalworking project was inspired by the Roughrider Bowie knife. Overall the forged knife came out a little bit smaller than I wanted, and it is not at all a perfect execution.., but I did learn some valuable lessons while working on this that I’ll bring into my next forged knife project build. I did have to add some (bad) weld off camera to widen the handles .. you can see the porosity in the handles final edge. I hope you enjoy this project build!

Hey all - Just a quick update to let you know that My Giant DiResta Razors are Now Live Here: imakeny.com/products/diresta-razor-blade
I can't be the only one who assumed this was going to be a knife on one end and a crowbar hook on the other, as one piece. But that would be lunacy.
you can eat the crow now
I didn't assume that was going to happen, but I hoped for it.
yup, I thought the same ... this is gonna be a cool knife ..... and then 2:15 happened. It is still a nice looking knife though.
Thought crossed my mind in the final shot, knife and crowbar together. Still could happen, there is enough crowbar left over.
I hoped it would be a crowbar-handled knife.
You can always tell how long it's been since Jimmy made a knife by how much arm hair he has 😂 Beautiful work as always!!
Whenever you are making a knife I sit here with a huge smile...can't help it!
Your armhair shows how long it’s been since the last sharp instrument was made😉
As always the man makes it look effortless. Nice trick drilling the holes for the scales.
Jimmy's girlfriend noticing the bald patch on his forearm: " You been making a knife again?" 😉
Love and respect!
Love watching you make stuff, reminds me of my childhood watching my dad make stuff in the shop. Precious moments in my life where time seemed to stand still as a project took shape one moment at a time. Thanks for sharing Jimmy!
My first thought was: "Jimmy's arm hairs must be getting long"
My thought was, here comes a chunk of skin.
Great job Jimmy! What brand knife sharpener setup is that?
What kind of knife sharpener is that awesome knife!
Nice job Jimmy. Stay well.
Типичный пример идиотизма, покупать гвоздодёр, чтобы сделать нож, чер. мета что ли не хватает.
What is the make of that honing jig?
Jimmy I can't say thank you enough, I have been watching your videos for a long time and you inspire me as well as many others. I wanted to take the time to thank you for all that you do and for showing that hard work and dedication will never go unseen. Keep great work 👍
Thank you dave!! Respect ✊🏻
Next video, please make a leather strap for your Apple watch 😍😍
0:08 Hello Mr Freeman)))
Now I want to see a one piece crowbar knife with the curved prybar end still attached! Useful zombie weapon.
How is it useful? Are you going to grab the blade in order to apply the leverage?
Jimmy makes so many sharp things that I’m surprised he still has hair on his arms to cut.
It looks like you need a diamond dresser for your surface grinder.
Overall nice job. It will keeeeeeel!
You saw that too?
Nice...outstanding...love the profile and the shape. Like they say on forged in fire..🔥
"It will kill" 🤣👍🤠💯🇺🇸🎯✌
What is that fixture to sharpen the blade? Is that something home made?
*Gordon Freeman disapproves silently*
It’s beautiful. Not sure about the handle but that’s personal preference. I like them a little longer and beefier. Was the design something inspired from another?
In the description i mentioned it was from a diff rider Bowie design. And came out smaller then hoped
I recommend the Edge-On-Up sharpness tester. It gives a quantitative measurement of how sharp an edge is, much better than shaving your arm hair or slicing up paper. The feedback from this gadget allowed me to upgrade my sharpening skills from Mediocre to Barely Acceptable.
While I can see the value in that test for comparing blades or for quality control/batch testing in production work, real world use case tests are more relatable.
Great Video , Thanks Jimmy !!
I get the feeling Jimmy makes knives when the hair on his forearm starts to grow back. This was cool.
Seeing that Apple Watch, I couldn't even confirm this was actually Jimmy!! Great knife btw!!!
Must… not… take… troll bait…. ARRGGGG…. HOW DARE YOU NOT USE EPOXY ON THE HANDLE!!! IT’LL FALL APART IN TWO DAYS!!!! Oh man… I did it again didn’t I!!! Outstanding job as always my friend!!! 🤣😂😎
Hi @Jimmy my friend !What a nice work man !The knife looks so amazing !Thank you for showing !Greeting #Bulatsschmiede from germany (Bulat the Blacksmith)a friend of Habu (Hassan) and Pero (Der Kompressorschrauber)Keep it up!😊🤙
Fantastic Jimmy! You bandsaw brass like it's soap! Just seeing you use that robust grinder belt and your buffer wheel that looks like an F150 differential is awesome!
Gordon Freeman is angry right now
What is the sharpening system at 10:03?
That exact same crow bar is $25.00 at Sydney Tools, about the cheapest tool wholesaler in Australia. We get rorted hard over here.
Wonderful job! Everything is always simple, clear and creative! Huge like!
I really need the second video of the backhoe!!!
Soon ! Lots more to do
Y love your knife Jimmy!!
People have probably stopped asking you why you keep having bald patches on your arms. Awesome work.
Nice job My Idol. Stay well. Best regards from Viet Nam !

Can’t believe you didn’t throw it and stick it in something or test the fit in your boot. 😎

After the heat treat the colour of the steel was beautiful. Great job as always.
Yeah that straw colour was perfect
Cant believe you didn’t throw it and stick it in something or test the fit in your boot. 😎
Very, Very, very good. Congratulations Brother. Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
That handle is way too small or is it me?
Look at old models from 1800,s it's pretty correct..
@@mercuryrising9174 small hands in those days. I'd probably drop it...
@@smartgorilla your probably right... People were smaller overall. Look up WW1 GI's they are not 6F2 like alot of us are now .
When Gordon Freeman is tired of G-Man's bullshxt.
If you meet Jimmy, Look for a bald arm patch, you'll know the upcoming video!
Crowbar...? Knife...?
Those are the two most beloved weapon of mine!
It wouldn't be a knife video if you didn't cut the hairs on your arm .
The shape of the handle, and the proximity to Fall/Halloween was making me think of coffins. Or I'm just morbid. Anyway, I sense a missed opportunity. There's always that other half of the crowbar that could be made into a Crow-fin-bowie? Coffin-bar-bowie? I dunno, name needs work I guess.
Well done Jimmy! That is a beautiful knife! I still say that you should be on the show "Forged In Fire"! 👍👍😉😉
congratulations you are a very good teacher And everything you make is perfect I wish you always well warm regards Spyros from London!!!👍🇬🇷
The attention to detail in every facet of your work is extraordinary. So why do the shirts look like Grandma made them back in 2002? 😂🤦♂️ Love you Jimmy but I think a simple die cut would have made them a lot more marketable.
Just a little know it all comment: a true Bowie has that first quarter of the back of the knife as sharp as blade itself. Makes for easier stabbing I suppose. I haven’t tried it for that yet, but who knows…Anyway you made that part of your knife straight so it should be easy to sharpen. That part of my Bowie is curved, concave of course, making it difficult to sharpen.
The opportunity for great gag was missed. When you shaved the hair on your arm, there should have been a jump cut to an arm hitting the floor (think Monty Python's Black Knight). I would have lost it. Great knife.
Mr Diresta, that anvil with the double horn and offset hardy hole. What brand, age,and type is it?. I've recently acquired one just like it but it's in bad shape and needs a new deck. Any help or information will be very beneficial. Thank you.
$30 for a t-shirt???? That's like a 500% markup on what should cost you less than $6 each to produce. I'm all for capitalism, but Jesus Christ dude.
Hola...me llamó Osvaldo y soy de Morón, Argentina Buenos Aires... señor Jimmy Diresta puedo ir a visitarlo y conocer su taller?
I don't know why you call it a knife, I think Diresta Hair Removal System is better. Great idea, excellent work and beautiful demonstration. Thanks my friend.
Beautifully crafted knife. Looks great. But what's the point of using steel from a crowbar? Any piece of steel would have done the job.
Great video as always! Ever thought about making diresta band aids? Or ink stamping diresta on you band aids… love the coffin ⚰️ handle on the crowbar knife 🔪
Jimmy, Amazing. What a project! I would love a knife like this. May I have a quote for one please. Thanks.
Nice build. I'm curious though, why were the anvils so oily? Any other blacksmithing I've seen, the anvils were clean and dry.
J.D. I'm pretty sure Mr Stanley ain't gonna b real happy about u mutilating his crowbar like that, but nonetheless, very nice work as always...
Dope AF knife, @jimmydiresta! Now you've gotta stitch up an equally dope sheath to go with it!
I really hate the episode where "proud knife maker shaves his arm hair" - drab drab drab ! Sorry Jimmy
P.S. what is the unfinished area behind the blade (near the handle) ? Left on purpose ?
Now introducing a new line of tool Mashup. Crow-knife!
But...will it keel?
Nice project!
your fingers are too close from the vertical hacksaw, please protect you hands….BIG CAREFUL !
Any idea what the sharpening holder/stones used here are?
I've been using a 3d printed one I've made for a while, but I still can't get to shaving sharp...
ever tried to make a balisong? (butterfly knive) would be rad to see
very cool but the belt sander marks kinda kills it, use a file guide next time, all that work and u got giant ugly scratches on both sides of the knife. I know your not a knife maker but still that one was easily avoidable. On a good note I loved how you put it together in a unique way never seen a guard done like that very creative.
Just found your channel, I wish I had a workshop, but landlord won't let me have one. Beautiful knife you made there, well done dude.
Ring-spun yarn is made by twisting and thinning the cotton strands to make a very fine, strong, soft rope of cotton fibers. Ring-spun cotton t-shirts are more durable and last longer than their regular counterparts
Normal people: go to store buy a knife.
Jimmy Diresta: go to stor buy a crowbar, make it a knife.
I love it.
Need a leather scabbard for that now….something that would compliment the ‘Rough-Rider’ look of the blade.
All I could think is, I have got to try this. Sure I don't have the oven, the shaper, the magnetic hold down etc, but as a little project that might fail it conjures up a compelling force wanting me to try. Thanks for inspiring me!
Awesome video Jimmy! Just listened to Making it too, still my favourite podcast every week. Much love from Ireland.
They're pretty damn consistent. I remember being caught up about 100+ episodes in and took a break and was maybe 30 uploads behind. I haven't listened in maybe 2 years. What episode are they on now? And What's the funniest title they've used for one this year 😂?
A picture, of a product, with your name on it, on a... t-shirt. That's it, he's jumped the shark. Nothing else to see here.
Jimmy DiResta be like: oh no, hair on forearm grew back again, gotta make a new knife asap
I'll bet the warranty is voided on the crowbar when you put that thing in the furnace 😎😎
Great looking knife!
Ha ha its a Stanley knife 🔪 In England we call 📦 Box cutters made by Stanley "Stanley knives"
I can’t believe you bought a new crowbar for this project with all the treasures in your shops there must be one just say to itself “pick me pick me”
where is your name??
you forgot it?
could you put it on the edge of the handle with laser....
it will look very nice ;)
Is that Stanley crowbar made of fine American steel?
You went to Home Depot. Sweet knife, I love the work. But you are supposed to get a hammer and ax remember.😅🤙
The amount of tools this guy has. How does he have room, it’s like a clown car I swear. Power tools just keep showing up
Yeah, I could make something like that too if i had some of those fancy DIRESTA stencils😜
You're going to tell me with all the crap you have piled up and stored everywhere you didn't have an old crowbar laying around? You had to buy a new one?
Congratulations!!! Rambo just Subcribed to your channel.
New Diresta Series..."Will it cut!" The Salami edition... looks delicious
Ah yes, my favorite way of making a knife - taking a piece of steel and grinding away everything that's not a knife!
Soy un admirador de todos sus trabajos...por eso le pregunto desde ya muchas gracias...
Привет Джимми. Очень красивый Боуи. У тебя все получается красиво.🤨👍
I come to check up on your knife journey and here you are teaching me how to make a split guard with a bandsaw :p.
I SOOOO wanted a burrito to get cut at the end... Alas... Thanks Jimmy!
Adesso ho capito Maestro Jimmy, ogni volta che ti ricrescono i peli sul braccio fai un coltello per rasarteli ... ah ah ah ah .. è sempre un godimento vederti all'opera maestro, buon weekend.
Nice! I came from your interview with Steve on the Woodworking show (or whatever he calls it)
Were so many people just use a power hammer for all the work jimmy goes at it with just a hammer for the most part. The man the legend jimmy diresta
