I was wondering that. In my comment I was saying that if I restored something like this, I would have added some tools or functionality to it, like a glass breaker or something. A can opened would be good too. It's not really a "secret" pocket knife if it has no other use. It's just a two part knife that has a blade that can be flipped to go inside the handle.
I have a collection of these, all made in Soviet prison work camps. They are each unique and artistically crafted. Yes, most of them have bottle openers on them, either on the barrel or the reverse end of the blade. That's what the broken piece had been.
So the administrators of Soviet prisons have actually forced prisoners to produce these elaborate shanks, so that they could be sold to the public for profit?
I was wondering. I figured that what was broken off wouldn't likely be cylindrical -- it needs to be a decent handle to open the knife. I'm also guessing that these have become fairly rare, they don't look like much when not in knife form. Soviet prisons! Wow.
Looks great but you basically got rid of the knurling which I think was important. I think that was a mistake. You made it a decorative piece instead of a functional piece
I actually have one of these. Not as old and it is literally a tube that has threading on one end and the other is rounded with a hole you could put a keychain ring through… the idea is that you could carry it on your keys and have a small blade (for defense?) or hold it in your fist for punching. I don’t carry it because it’s a concealed weapon but I like to collect odd stuff like this…
found this exact knife on aliexpress, there cheap as hell, and easy as hell to age, i even got mine looking identical to the start of the video in just a week edit: you can even see at 1:43 exatcly where he filed off the brand name that is one of the dozens of chinese brands selling it, notice how only one section of the knife has severe file marks, thats where the brand name was, pre removed to avoid people calling out a fake
Absolutely loved the restore. To rate it just 10 would be a disservice to you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And my eye beholds a beautiful piece Brought back to its original form. Stunning. Thank you for what you do.

Wow I give you a 10 out of 10 because the scale didn't go any higher. Truly amazing job and attention to detail. I wish I was able to do work like you do! Very nice piece and I would like to have a knife like that sometime. Thanks for the video and the ASMR to boot. Relaxing for sure. A+

Beautiful restoration of a completely useless knife. Very few scenarios where this design would actually be practical, considering that folding knives have existed for centuries. The only possible function for this is that it can be easily "suitcased" by inmates, lol.

Looks great, but when soldering, you need flux to help the solder to flow out and stick. Also, I've sharpened hundreds of knife edges through the years and the stone should always move against the edge, not away from it when sharpening.
На противоположной стороне клинка, там, где обломано, там была открывалка для пивных пробок.
у меня почти такой же есть, и тоже отломана открывашка. они похоже на всех таких ножах сломаны
Такие делали в местах заключения,только гораздо качественее

Do you just use the bottle opener as the handle? I have one that screws back onto the tube…

It has to be a bottle opener hook, not just cilinder.
how, explain detailly
Like you find on a Swiss army knife?

10 from 10, you should teach restauration of vintage things.
That turned out to be a very beautiful piece.
Nicely done, I have the same sharpener, great piece of equipment 👍
I've never seen one like that before, but now that i have, it makes so much sense and makes sharpening a blade SO easy
what is the name of this sharpener? Ive been looking for one for so long.

Being honest, I didn't think it was going to come out too good! (Nothing on your end) it just looked like junk. You definitely gave it life! Easy 10!!

10 for sure. That little knife is super cool.
Great job, Sir! 👌
10/10 all day my friend!
You should knurl the bottom of the plug so you can grip it better when you unscrew the blade out.
Match the knurling of the main cylinder.
Fantastic work !!
Did you know it was a knife before you opened it? Gorgeous work, as always!
such knives are made by convicted people in prisons. Іt is called a barrel knife

@wladyslaw_borys-maliszewski looks like it was used to peel apples. I like the design but would change the blade shape to something less stabby. 😂
