You should make a cleaver out of the other half of saw blade. Always nice to have a matching set! :-)
Agreed
fuckery abounds More like always KNIFE to have a matching set ;D
Mr.DiResta, your one of the few guys that deserves putting his name on every thing he does.
Very nice workmanship.
That shot with the knife sitting in the blade cutout was just too cool.
super nice, Jimmy.
My 3 yr old girl will have a blast watching this one with me... ("Daddy, I want to watch Jimmy making a BIG knife" was a recurring theme a few weeks back). bzw, my kids love when you make signs too, tons of signs, with letters and numbers, yeah.
Keep on trucking ! (from France)
I can listen to someone using a rasp on a piece of wood all day and all night. it's soothing to my ears
Seriously Jimmy you deserve a medal. I watched all your videos.
Nice job Jimmy. Props for the respirator. I'm trying to use one more these days
Have too. I'd be spitting out steel for days. ...Ask me how I know ..,
Thank you alway brother!!
I've watched many of your videos, and your ability to look at what is and envision what could be is marvelous.
I think I missed a step. How did the Diresta get on the side of the blade? Does all the material in his shop just slowly develop the marking now?
I am continually impressed by your craftsmanship. Also, these videos are extremely relaxing.
Agreed
There was hair on his arm again, so time for another knife! ;-) Really awesome knife Jimmy, love it!!
The hand shaping of the handle was incredible! Great build
Jimmy just a little advice, when making a knife like this.. Where the handle and blade meet, there needs to be a radius, as the square section can cause what is known as stress risers in the steel. It doesn't have to me massive just a small radius with a round file prevents this take care and keep up the great work
+lbcustomknives agreed ..thank you!
+jimmydiresta no problem take care.
i have been watching diresta videos for over 3 years now they are really good
You're gonna piss off all the 50 year old sawmill blade nerds Jimmy, what are you doing! :P
found this amazing channel a few days ago, subscribed straight away and haven't stopped watching it since, keep up the good work👍👌
I'm surprised the hair on your forearm even bothers growing anymore. Knife looks great!
Hey jimmy, dont' know if you know this, but it's just a suggestion so you dont wear out your belts. If you ever decide to make something else from that giant saw blade again, and you're not worried about time. Soak your cut out piece(s) in apple cider vinegar for maybe a day or two to remove the rust depending on the amount that's built up. I've done this multiple times with tools and scrap metal ive used for knife making and it works great.
Now THAT'S a knife.
Brilliant work as always!
+johnnyq90 Did not expect you here
That is awsome, I was going to ask how much to buy one then I thought to myself what the heck get off your arse and make one yourself !
Wish me luck !
And thank you for another cool video.
Impressive build and a GREAT video of the process! A rare combination of excellent skills, both a maker and a videographer. Very nicely done, thank you!
"That's not a knife this is a knife!"
How can anyone 'thumbs down' these videos, Naysayers abound on the interwebz! Keep up the excellent work Jimmy!
hey Jimmy I love your videos, they help me a lot when I feel bad or had a rough day
how?
@@shablooey He imagines using them on people who ask too many questions.
Non solo bravissimo tastierista ma anche genio del fai da te...grande rocco tanica
I'm sure Crocodile Dundee would agree..."Now, THAT'S a knife"!
Knife nerds are gonna go crazy about all the belly on that knife. Awesome work jimmy, big fan, keep up the great work!
Freaking Sweet! I love the hidden Diresta in this. Was that intended or a happy accident?
+Peter Brown Yes!! i sprayed for instagram and was burned in the rust after heat treat!! thank you brother!
I am sure it was intended
+Long Island Survival silly FLID
Hey Peter, I love your channel! I was wondering if you could make a bench. Maybe make it out of pallet wood, or use something else.
Peter Brown happy accident
I like the subtle diresta etched into the blade
This guy must have the patience of a saint.
Jimmy once again proving that he is a master craftsman :))
that is some hard wood on the handles.
also - it looks like an itchy and scratchy knife.
Wow, the satisfaction you must feel at the end of your day must be wonderful. You make beautiful dangerous items and each step in the creation is quite an accomplishment. Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship.
Jimmy listens to jazz whilst making a badass knife.
Came out cool knife!!!
I look at these videos and think that it is time to build me a belt sander and start making knives :)
Thank you for the inspiration Jimmy,I really like your work, with knives and wood , I only work with metal and your videos give me the desire to evolve in other areas !!
BADDDASSSS BLADE ! ! !!
GREAT WORK BROTHER.. I love your channel....;)-
Looks good +JimmyDiresta ! Something I've discovered is that its pretty easy to put a chamfer/angle/round on the "bolster" part of the handle scales (that transitions to the blade) if you clamp them up using the pins as a reference before you put the knife handle between them. I usually use belt sander +/- files. You can get all kinds of transitions that way (even carve it a bit) and if they're a bit off it doesnt matter - once it's attached to the knife, the blade is inbetween the two and you can't visually compare one side to another.
Now THAT'S a knife.
+john papple I thought it was a spoon?
+One Poke Man I think he meant that this was a KNIFE and not a knife
A bowl of Miso soup
In my country we call that a spoon.
One Poke Man let me guess: Russia?
That plasma cutter works pretty well! Nice project video.
its like one of those Halloween fake giant kitchen knifes only real
you just gave that piece of scrap a new life! I had always enjoyed watching your videos! NICE WORK Jimmy! :)
_"Now Thaut's a Knife."_
+Sulli11 *Noife ;p
Crocodile Dundee?
Noice noife mate

I love this kind of videos, this kind where you take old stuff to make new ones, or you repair like the Fireman AXE, or the old tools you polish, you should make more like this ones, or put them in a special list. Great work! big fan!
He's ready for when the tomatoes attack.
WOW, beautiful work Jimmy
Now thats a knife
Great Work Jimmy, Always a pleasure to see your work. Thank you for sharing...
Zangetsu ?
Weeb Alert.
So cool man! So cool to think it was rusting in a field before this. Thank you for sharing bud! -Brian
What brand grinder is this? Or is it custom? I can't find anything like it online!
"Beaumont"
+jimmydiresta thank you. I've been trying to figure that out for like a year
+kevin condon I think they are pretty damn expensive, but it seems like it's the grinder most pro knifemakers (and metalworkers) use.
+EspenJ yea I just looked and over a grand for one ready to go
They're fairly common grinders used a lot by knife makers. Search for knife belt sanders. Wilmont grinders makes a nice one too
After seeing many knife builds on RUclips (there's bloody millions of them), I'm glad I saw this. It looks like the kind of knife I would actually like to use in the kitchen, heavy with a progressive curve for carving but a decent amount of chopping ability. Nice work, and thanks for the vid.
That wood looked like hard work, what is it?
Now u have a knife to butter your toast😄
Now THAT'S a dang knife. Beautiful work. One question: did you temper that blade after quenching in oil? If you didn't, it'll be brittle and will likely shatter under normal work or if you drop it point-on. Given that you seem to know your business, I reckon you must have or it's a decorative piece. No matter what, that there is a thing of art.
Does anyone else want the mill blade with the cut out to just hang on your shop wall
+Liberty Woodworking damn right!! LOL
Hell yeah
Fabulous knife and so expertly made and (frustratingly) you make it look so easy!
whoaaa... ichigo's mini zangetsu. hahaha
Omg I am in love with this man's work!
сколько же у него шерсти на руках
...как и у любого другого мужика.
Ты девушка или малой? У мужчины всегда так было, те, кто бреют руки без причины, пусть еще и в жопу долбятся
+TheDarkvindetta idi nahoi
I cannot wait until you get that bigger shop you talked about and start working on cars you wanted!
@jimmydiresta no tempering after heat treatment?
That's what I was going to ask. Also, the steel did not look hot enough before quench. I love your work jimmy, but I am curious to know. why no temper?
+thermmaloverload yeah, me too Jimmy. Big Fan. Maybe the knife is just meant for decoration?
@@thermmaloverload Further up in the comments he stated that he did temper it, just didn't show it.
I found it amazing that with all the times you have shaved your arms to show how sharp the knives, axes, blades, etc. that you have made, that your arms are not clean shaven yet. But then I realize that you're Italian and the hair has probably grown back by the time the video was finished.
Why didn't you polish the knife completely? Aren't you going to use it in the kitchen or is it only for stabbing? :D
he'd never get away with murder with all the stencil tags he uses
O.J. is that you ? LOL
you have an outstanding free hand & eye of detail skill many can only admire.. that is one fine knife.. totally enjoy your video..
the perfect watermelon knife
you are so professional. I appreciate your creation
Didnt see you temper that blade after hardening?????
+john smith easy mistake to make.
+john smith Wasn't that around 4:50 ?
+Brandon Darensburg No....At 4:50 he is hardening the steel which makes it very hard and brittle. It must be reheated after this at a lower temp to temper the steel and make it less brittle. Some put it in a toaster oven at 400F for 2 hours...other guys like to heat it with a torch until a desired color appears. Opinions vary BUT MUST BE TEMPERED or it will snap. Put an old file in a vice and hit it with a hammer and you will see....file will snap right in half.
+john smith did off camera. Just boring.
Oh wow i appreciate the clarification
Cool knife! I like one of those end shots where you had the finished knife resting in the place it began. Very cool!
this is like mini zangetsu
Love this approach! Always dig your knives
Old sawmill blade reicarnated to cut another day.
great knife you made there. I like the shot where the finished knife is in the cutout hole in the blade ... maybe a wall mount or a holder incorporating that would be cool?
how long? how long until he has no more hair to shave off his arms?
Jimmy, how soon can you touch the metal after you use the plasma cutter? I have Oxygen-Acetylene to cut so I have to wait to handle my material.
Right away. Not hot
+jimmydiresta Thank you.
getsuga tenshou
Wow - that was terrific - nice blade and thanks for sharing!
Your poor arm hair. Will you ever let it grow?
kitchenmaiden81 because of knife sharp test when it be razor charp
he's Italian. it'll grow back in a few hours
juicy ducy my favorite comment ever
The Best method to learn something and fall asleep. Thanks for you videos.
man, there is an inscription on your toilet paper "DiResta"???
Always a pleasure to watch.
guy must be really paranoid about people taking his stuff... does he put his name on everything?
mostly so when arseholes steal videos to repost them without giving credit his channel name is still in the video
+The Mad Hammer Oh. Well, that makes sense.
imagine if someone broke in and added "smells" after everywhere he wrote his name
Captain Obvious haha thats evil, or just a random insult after each one
Coke and Pepsi must also be paranoid about someone stealing their stuff, they put their name on everything!
Excellent job, I know I am not the only one that kept thinking about the "mugging" scene in Crocodile Dundee.
do the throne of GOT, that will be fucking epic
Thank you Diresta ! You are a free radical ! In this illusion .
Can I use this to trim my pubic hair?
Any knife is a shaving knife.. if you aren't a little bitch!
Every pizza's a personal pizza if you want it bad enough.
😂😂😂😂😂👌🏻
You can trim aloooooot more than that, my friend!
You need more subscribers. Anyone can play a video game, but this, this is just cool. Nice work.
This is so beautiful to watch.
In the end it seems to be a bout between steel and sand paper. I'm always amazed that the sandpaper wins in the end. Sure, it has the advantage of an electric motor at its back. But I'm curious, how much steel can you sand away before you have to change out the sand paper belt???
So what was this old saw blade? It looks like a cross between a saw blade and an old mushroom anchor.
Now if only he could come up with a more descriptive title for this video... wait, never mind. He nailed it.
Excellent workmanship.
That's one mean big cutter you've got there! Great way of turning something useless into something useful. Great work Jimmy!
Jimmy i love your videos, so relaxing and enjoyable to watch them, thank you very much for your awesome videos and the great stuff you make keep up the good work jim, Greetings from Greece!! ;)
I can't stop watching these....
Jimmy your videos are always interesting and informative !!! Thank you for the quality content!))) Good luck and success !!!
Thank you !!
Incredible Work Jimmy!!!
I'm glad I SAW this video....I'm here all day.
That would be a great display option, showing where the blade was cut from.
Great knife!!! diresta!!!, love to see that bad boy in action. Keep up the awesome work!
wow that knife is massive! very nice work jimmy.
I find it really interesting that the sparks on the belt sander follow the belt all the way around. Instead of being thrown off after the first or even second 90* turn let alone going through 4 - 90's*
Awesome knife!!!!
+2LateIWon I noticed the exact same thing. It looks like each corner loses about 80% of them though.
Señor, con toda mi admiracion, hizo usted un excelente trabajo
Excellent build. I hope the knife trolls don't get too bent out of shape by you're awesomeness
