The Breakfast Club Trailer - Directed by John Hughes and starring Emilio Estevez, Paul Gleason, Anthony Michael Hall, John Kapelos, Judd Nelson. In this 1980s Brat Pack film, the athlete, the brain, the criminal, the princess and the basket case break through the social barriers of high school during Saturday detention. The disparate group clashes at first but begin to bond as they reveal their feelings and find a common enemy in their bully principal.
Universal - 1985
It's one of those movies you should watch once every year
In my master's program, I put it on before every major test. It became a tradition and good luck charm.

One of those movies that should be shown in every school. Timeless film that shows everyone has their own battles in a great way.
When I was in high school there was a class I took that did show it
Totally agree.
This the only movie that I watch at least twice a year.
This movie has always brought me such comfort. I can’t really explain why. My mom was a senior in high school when this came out and has always praised this movie. I remember after watching it looking through my moms high school yearbook and a rush of nostalgia came over me. The same nostalgic feeling comes over me whenever I watch it & I love it
This is a pretty good explanation. I mean for the fact that you "can't really explain why." ;-)
- i'm a nymphomaniac
- Are your parents aware of this?
I want to share with you truth and life.
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father but by Him (John 14:6). Jesus came in the world to become the sacrifice for our sins, save us and teach us the perfect faith.
All have sinner and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Your sins will lead you to hell (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and Revelation 21:8). If you want to go to heaven repent of your sins and turn to Jesus; love Him with all Your heart, mind, soul and follow Him (obey Him).

I wonder why I've never watched this gem before last night and now I'm overwhelmed by nostalgia. Love Saturday, worship the 80's, adore movies like this with such a talented cast and a relatable atmosphere. I was a middle school student in 1984/1985 and that was one of the most beautiful times I've ever experienced. This movie is a deep experience of the past to live a better present.
The movie turns 35 today!
Still one of John Hughes best films
The guy knew how to tell stories from the perspectives of teenagers
he did the best films!!!!
And 36 this year. Time flies fast.
38 now @@theinnuminati
Quite possibly the best movie ever made about being a teenager in high school. It's timeless and bittersweet.
Nah. American pie takes the cake as the best high school film
i haven’t watched this yet but i think it’s pretty accurate to say that whenever a load of teenage acquaintances get pushed together for a while it ALWAYS turns into group therapy and oversharing time
The Breakfast Club is definitely on my top 3 John Hughes movies list! Its so good! It was one of the first 80s movies I had ever watched
Hope you watched it! It's a classic
This is what I think happened to the breakfast club;
Claire would grow up to be a socialite who married a Donald Trump-like figure. Probably in marriage counseling right about now as she's living in the past trying to relive her glory days.
Brian would've become a scientist of physics, marry a nurse, have three kids, and live on a dairy farm in Nebraska away from the polluted air of the city.
Allison would grow up to own a successful coffee/poetry bar and freelance artist. Although she makes a lot of money she prefers simple things and so she lives peacefully in an condo with three cats.
Andy would open a gym and live in sin having many girlfriends on the side. The stress of trying to reliving his glory days would cause him to become an alcoholic.
John would be a reformed criminal who is trying to become a psychologist. On the side he is a motivational speaker and mentor to kids who come from abusive households.
Nice and positive for John :)
That's how I always imagined them. I always imagined a sequel which would be a high school reunion movie about how they changed as people.
In a deleted scene, Carl predicts the kids futures. Claire will have six face lifts and two boob jobs by the age of 40 and will have a husband with multiple girlfriends. Brian will have a lucrative job but will have a heart attack before 39 due to the stress and pressure. Andy will be the district sales manager of a golf club with a pregnant wife who is a stewardess, Bender will have a kid and live in a trailer park in a broken environment. He'll continue to take drugs and implies he will overdose. And Allison will become a poet but no one will care then she'll get married, have three kids and be in charge of the school carpools. Pretty bleak predictions.
Somebody make this movie. C'mon they're rebooting everything this year
*NO!* sorry, but almost every reboot, sequel, ect these days come out bad. I don't want to see a tamper on the universe known as the breakfast club.
I saw this movie since a week and now i'm obsessed with 80's
The Breakfast Club is one of my favourite movies, along with many other movies from the late 70s throughout the 80s .. when l get a chance to watch the movies from that time period, it takes me back to my youth.
"chicks cannot hold their smoke, that is what it is." Fantastic movie so many lines that you cannot forget. And Judd Nelson doing that punching his fist in the air at the end. Why'd we ever grow up?
I can quote this entire movie without any errors! That’s something to brag about!
You bet it is. It's like being able to rap HeavyDirtySoul without flaw: godlike abilities.
fuck that was a good ass movie
wow haven't seen since this since it came out when I was a teen, now watching tonight in May 2024 😁
one of the deleted scenes in TBC is Ally hugging and dancing herself alone to The Beatles "In My Life" in the music room of the library. apparently it was so intense several crew members wept
I don’t get how it could be intense or why they would cry
One of the greatest films ever made.
If you watch this film closely john bender is in philosophy or a psychology student he gets them all to open up and see who they truly are even himself towards the end with the other students which is a cry for help as his home life is horrible. As far as I'm aware john bender is in detention for 2 months so the next lot of students he would do the same to as well he knows what he is doing and well aware of what's going on. 😊✌
Never thought of it like that! You're so right.
They haven't done a "reboot" on this movie because they know that they can't. Some movies you just leave alone. This, Scarface, The Godfather, etc
Scarface was a reboot
But.........Scarface WAS a reboot.
Yeah.
*NO REBOOT*
*NO REBOOT*
*NO REBOOT*
A sequel yes, remake, no
I can’t explain it, but the first time watching this movie years ago, it instantly became one of my all time favorites. The 80’s vibe just resonates with me a lot. Perfect cast. With a peak soundtrack too. The brat pack must’ve been a crazy era to witness back in the day..
"Touch each other in a way they never dreamed possible..." Okay, enough said.
This is actually back in theaters for the 30th Anniversary.
The actress that plays Allison actually improvised a scene where she goes into a room by herself and starts humming “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi. It actually brought tears to the other cast and crew. So I’m just here wondering why was it cut. You can even see it at 0:31
It’s my life was from the 90s. You’re thinking of a different Bon Jovi song
Living on a prayer
I thought of Talk Talk, It's My Life. But she wasn't humming that.

Just watched this movie. Unquestionably amazing work by John Hughes and the entire cast for perfectly capturing the essence of the ordeals encountered by teenagers. I absolutely love The Breakfast Club but can’t say the same about the trailer. It pretty much spills the entire plot of the movie - Five high schools kids with varying personalities stuck in a detention who end up being friends with each other. The trailer even reveals Allison Reynolds having a makeover and John Bender finding a way back to the school library. The trailer would have definitely been crapped on if the movie was released today on the basis of revealing too much. The only “new” prospects I found in the movie were the janitor Carl Reed and parents being too tough on or ignoring their kids. Regardless of the trailer, I still found The Breakfast Club as one of the best and heartwarming movies I have ever seen :) I only wish that I had seen it much earlier. Hey, hey, hey, hey! Don't you, forget about me! Don't, don't, don't, don't!
I first watched this when I was 17 on a handful of vicodin and for some reason it just seemed liked the movie wouldn't end, and I loved every second of it
Why do I feel like Victorious is based off this?😂 😂
well they did make an episode based on this movie
Why do i feel like you have no brain?😂 😂

"The Breakfast Bunch"
FOR REAL LMAO
Anyone else not remember the part where Allison says “I don’t want to be alone anymore” and Andy says “you don’t have to be” ?? Did they end up cutting that part??
Yea
Em Thompson they also cut out that part where Brian makes an impression while they’re getting high
@@codesling3421 That part's in the film, though.

the first time I saw this movie was actually during a real class while I was in high school. I'm glad it happened that way. every September when the first day of school starts I always think about this film. on a side note, I always wondered if matt Groening based principal skinner on Paul gleasons character "Richard Vernon"
Who else just realized that the episode from victorious was based on this
Everyone is like “victorious brought me here” or “pitch perfect brought me here” meanwhile my dad used to make me watch all these movies with him when I was like 7😂 I love these movies. Ferris Buellers day off was my dads favorite. And sixteen candles. He was obsessed with molly ringwald and now thanks to him I am too 🤣
he put you on the right track!
I was born in 70's.
My youth was in the 80's.
I'm in my 40's now, and I have a daughter.
I'm afraid of loosing contact to my young self. I'm afraid of not being able to connect to my daughter.
This movie is an anchor.
I reminds me of how messy was like to be a teenage, and what kind of parents I wish I had (and I didn't at all).
Our memory lets us evolve.
"I've been there. I can do better"
I cant wait for this to come out!!! I got a feeling it will be a instant classic!

The best part of the movie is when Molly Ringwald put the diamond earring in Judd Nelson's hand and closed it for him. Letting him KNOW - Hey somebody VALUES you.......Still touches me to this day!! Best movie!! 💪💪💪💪🙌💯💯

love this film so much. Classic teenage movie of all time.
This movie couldn't be made today. That's because the kids would spend the whole time texting away, with nary a verbal word spoken, and who'd want to watch a movie when the kids were doing nothing but that?
I know right. It's sick and sad.
+TheBob1901 Their phones would be taken away. ;-)
actually the real reason is because one hundred per cent of it is based in one location and huge chunks are just them talking.

I have watched 80s movies since I was 8... I bet everyone else watched it when they were even younger... the only reason people are saying they love it now is because society loves it.
this movie is garbage.. never watch back then.. wont watch it now
so much love, and still a classic.

anyone know what the first song used in the trailer is? Kicks in around 0:31 at an audible level.
I’ve never been able to figure out what it is.
…and no, it’s not “Don’t You” and nor is it Darude:Sandstorm!
Fun facts for those who don’t know much about the movie’s background. Ronald Reagan was the first choice to play Vernon, but a meeting with Mikhail Gorbachev conflicted with the shooting schedule and he could not accept the role. In Reagan’s autobiography, An American Life, he calls this “The biggest regret of my life.” Harvey Keitel was the next pick, but after reading the script he told John Hughes that he’d only play the role if he could dress in the same clothes he wore in “Taxi Driver.” So Paul Gleason, son of Jackie Gleason, won the role. During shooting he improvised the movie’s most famous line, “Yo Sal, how come there ain’t no brothers up on the wall?” The role Anthony Michael Hall played was originally written for a chimpanzee. Eric Stolz was originally cast as Bender, then halfway through filming John Hughes realized he wasn’t menacing enough and fired him. But you can still see glimpses of Stolz in the movie. That is his head between Molly Ringwald’s knees. And Hughes wanted Justine Bateman as the Claire character, but Gary David Goldberg would not give her the time off needed to film the movie. Filming was delayed for six months because of a typhoon. Emilio Estevez suffered a heart attack right before shooting began, also delaying the shooting schedule. The five students were originally supposed to serve their detention in the school cafeteria, locked into the walk-in refrigerator, but then producers were worried that children would try to copy the movie and lock themselves into their refrigerators at home, then suffocate. The exterior scenes were shot at a suburban high school right out of Chicago, but the library scenes were filmed at the Princeton University library, which is mostly underground and that’s why you see no windows in the movie’s library. Harvard University refused permission to film the dance scene there, so it was done at Oxford in England. Judd Nelson went undercover as a high school student at a local high school because seven years after graduating from a high school in Maine he had no memory of what high school was like, and found he liked it so much that he stayed at that high school after filming and four years later graduated as their Valedictorian. No one at that school ever realized he was an actor and not a student, even though he had been in three movies before “The Breakfast Club.”
I assume that you've too much time. And the heavy use of drugs isn't good for you.

It also includes an audio commentary from Anthony Michael Hall and Judd Nelson. i'm also writing that The Breakfast Club will turn 40 in the year 2025.
