They had a hole dlc to tie up the ending from thieves in time it was supposed to be apart of the game but Sony rushed for a release so they said they would do a dlc but since the sales did so bad they said don’t release the dlc. That’s why we are left in limbo. Look it up. They were asked a few years after the release of the game. U can google it and watch the interview
well i did. The story sucked and kind of ruined the ending of the trilogy and destroyed a certain character which i totally hated which is why i refuse to consider thieves in time canon cause it doesnt feel cohesive with the rest of the series, but the gameplay is still good

To be fair, Sly 3 did ended with Bentley saying he WAS working on a time machine. Sure, the ending still had the gang going their separate ways, but also open up anyone else who was interested in writing a new chapter

Contrary to what others say, I thought a time travel storyline would work for Sly because we will finally know with our own eyes why Sly’s ancestors were great thieves in their time and what abilities they had that made them stand out.
While I do agree that sly 3 could’ve been a great conclusion. I do have a bit of criticism. And that I don’t think the end of that great. What i mean is that how sly and Carmelita got together I always never liked the fact that he had the fake Amnesia be with her. I think it would’ve been a really sweet thing if he just was truthful said he wants to give it all up just to be with her. Is the fact that their relationship got together in the end based on a lie carmelita is not really with sly cooper she loved and sly has to keep up a fake act so that he can be with her
I am one of the fans who liked Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time when I played it. It reminded me of why I liked Sly 2 back in the day. Regardless of what players think of Thieves in Time, I think Sly deserves a 5th game on PS5 to close out the series. He doesn’t deserve to be lost to time both in game and in real life either.
I also love Thieves in time and I’m not online too much so I didn’t know about the hate for it, so all I know is that I didn’t get a knew Sly game after this

Honestly, the smart thing for Sony to do. Is release Sly 4 the definitive edition that includes the unfinished planned DLC that was supposed to finish the story.
I hope we get a new Sly game! I remember that Bentley said he was building a Time Machine in the 3rd game so I wasn’t too surprised about the time travel plot. The story didn’t bother cause I’m mainly focused on whether or not I’m having fun playing the game and I had a blast playing all the Sly games!
Had Sly Cooper 5 came out not long after Thieves in Time, then the ending (and maybe the game as a whole) probably wouldn`t have gotten the level of hatred seen today.
Although true, unfortunately, the fourth game was already a failure financially, so Sony would never green light a fifth game. If anything, they'll probably do a reboot or remake
I don't care what the people say. Sly Cooper will return, and the sooner the better. Let's hope they bring back Kevin Miller, Grey Delisle, Matt Olsen, and Chris Murphy! So far the only thing satiating my Sly Cooper craving are FanFics most notably this one that's here on RUclips call "Promises made by Thieves"
Sly Cooper has been in my childhood a lot like he is my favorite video game character because I literally grew up with him and the fact that there isn’t a another game in the woodwork right now is really frustrating. Especially after that teaser at the end of the fourth game sly Cooper really needs to come back. I miss him.
As someone who has played all 4 of these games to their entire completion I don't understand why people will moan and complain about the 4th one when its genuinely a good game that was given some love. Playing the 4th one on ps3 after owning the original 3 on ps2 felt like a unique revival for the franchise and i honestly loved the cliffhanger ending because it made me want a 5th game even though that will never happen but it was still a fun game that had a unique art style and cool characters. Whether you think its lazy for time travel to happen as someone who played the old games I wished learning about slys ancestors and how their canes/stealth style would be and thats what sly 4 did. Overall it gets more hate than it deserves and I will not stand for it.
@Finnishmanni sly thieves in time was the 4th game and it came out at the end of ps3 life cycle so it never really had a chance but it was a good game and it is over hated in my opinion
Someone needs to open up a new game development studio to create "Legacy Sequels" for all the IPs that Sony had abandoned. - Sly Cooper - Jak and Daxter - inFAMOUS - Resistance - Killzone - Gravity Rush - SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals - Twisted Metal (even though it was brought back as a TV series on Peacock) - MotorStorm - Syphon Filter - Days Gone (that way we can get the sequel; even though PlayStation Productions has plans for a movie adaptation) - Ape Escape - PaRappa the Rapper Just to name a few. And we'll call the studio: LEGACY STUDIOS
I don’t understand why people were complaining about Sanzaru games going for the time travel route. That’s literally what was teased at the end of the 3rd game. Bentley said he was making a Time Machine and everyone was making fake posters and stuff with the title ‘Thieves In Time’ long before this game was ever in development. The ending did blow, especially with that lackluster final boss which was nothing but a glorified QTE, but other than that, I can’t really blame the team for working with what they got. If they didn’t focus on time travel, I assure you there would be fans complaining on why it wasn’t included in the 4th entry.
I didn't think Thieves in Time was a bad game in any way. It built up on the premise of Sly's Cooper ancestry, and getting to play as these figures we knew from the lore was a ton of fun, especially since each had their own special abilities. The ending was, yeah, not the best, but for me it still remains a franchise with no bad games. Getting the Sly movie would have been good. Wish they'd have made it before Ratchet & Clank. That game has a LOT less story. Sly would have been the perfect movie to start with.
honestly the sly copper series was there for me in a bad time in my childhood and i hold so dear to my heart. no matter the wait, ill be there for sly cooper 5. i will even go out of my way to buy a ps whatever if it isnt on pc by then lol
Story for Sly Cooper was always goofy, though it made me care it wasn't the Main reason I played. It was a solid Plat/Stealth game with Iconic characters. Though I haven't played Thieves in time because of lack of job and money and now procrastination (sinful of me), I love the way that the game plays. I don't care that the game ended baiting a sequel, because I want one!! GIVE 👏 ME 👏 SLY 👏 5 👏!! Edit: Astro Bot won GOTY! It shows that we love good Platformers. Give us more! More SLY!!
I'm glad there is no true "Sly 4" as the title of the last installment to the series is just "Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time" while the past games were "Sly 2: Band Of Theives" and "Sly 3: Honor Among Theives" which leaves SuckerPunch a true chance to give us their take on what Sly 4 was meant to be!
Loved playing the Sly Cooper games. What I feel sorry was that they announced a movie and it never came through. Aside from that, for those who played the Thieves in Time, the open ending leaves us thinking that we would be finding the origins of the villain of the first game. If the next game came out.
Sly 4 just undid a lot of character development for the sake of getting things back to how they used to be. Which is never what the games was about - they always moved forward both in story and gameplay. The Sly at the end of 3 who gave it all up to have a normal life wouldn't be so eager to betray Carmelita and go back to his old ways, and would only return with great reluctance when he realized the Thievius Raccoonus was in trouble. It'd be a conflict between what his previous life meant to him and what his current one means to him now. Bentley and Murray wouldn't just be reduced to "smart one who is a little jokey" and "dumb one who is a little jokey." They're more than just comedic foils. I like the idea of making them all more jovial and less brooding since they're now adults and have largely worked past a lot of their issues, but there are too many jokes and things made light of that it never feels like they're taking anything seriously. No stakes to the story. Sly had been lying to Carmelita for the longest time and there's never any consequences - they resolve it in a single episode. Penelope turning heel and being about money feels like it's out of nowhere and would have been better if we got to see her develop more throughout the game. Was it a slow dissatisfaction with Bentley? An itch to go back to crime that might work as a foil to Sly's? A want for greater recognition and the wealth that came with it? Who knows what could have worked. Sanzaru sure didn't.
It would be wonderful if a studio would reboot the Thievius Raccoonus; The reboot would have gameplay similar to Band of Thieves with no treasure keys and revamped missions. Also, the boss battles would be more engaging with the Fiendish Five ACTUALLY using the Cooper moves they stole (like Muggshot using Tennessee's rail walk) when fighting Sly. Doing that would impact Sly's line with Clockwerk, "The Thievius Raccoonus doesn't create great thieves... it takes great thieves to create the Thievius Raccoonus!"
This is a game I wish they’d share the love with and bring it to all consoles bc I grew up playing this and I would for sure pay to have it on my Xbox the whole trilogy
I had never played Thieves in Time but I kind of want to play it. Also I would love it if they could do like with Spyro and have a relaunch for the PS5 for all the games.
I will play a new Sly Cooper Game when it comes out! I still hope we bring him out of Egypt and for the most part, I’m having a great time playing the PS5 ports of the original trilogy. I also hate accepting the fact that Sly Cooper and Jak & Daxter are dormant while Ratchet & Clank remains strong. Not saying I don’t like Ratchet & Clank, but it would’ve been better that both IPS of the PS2 trio get more games while one remains dormant. Even after everything that happened, I really wish Thieves in Time didn’t end on a cliffhanger.
That's because the developers of Sly (Sucker Punch) and Jak (Naughty Dog) wanted to focus on solely mature games like Infamous and Last of Us while Insomniac wanted to do both which is why Ratchet remains
I loved the Sly Cooper Trilogy, especially Band of Thieves. Honour Among Thieves wasn't as good as the first two in my own humble opinion, but I still enjoy it, and it had a nice ending. Then came Thieves in Time. Whilst I would've loved a fourth Sly game, the writing needed to be peak to justify bringing Sly back into thieving. And the best Sanzaru could do was time travel? Really? I realise the series is supposed to have silly ideas, but that was just too inconsistent and just didn't work. On top of that, I hated what they did with some of the characters, especially Penelope. The villains were too childish and unappealing compared with previous villains. The boss fights weren't memorable, and the missions weren't that fun. Hopefully one day, Sucker Punch will develop a true fourth Sly game that ignores Thieves in Time
Ive just played sly 1 and 4 and the half of 3 this year and everything you hate about 4 sly 1 had too. Boring missions characters and the gameplay was like crash bandicoot 2.0
More than a new game, I would love so much a Remastered of the first 3 games, like the Legacy of Kain recently, for example. Would be a dream come true, one of my favourite games of all time, so much nostalgia of PS2 era. 💙
In a strong defense of Sly 4's presence and plot, Bentley outright states he's trying to make a time machine at the end of Sly 3. Sanzaru was *told* to make it a time travel plot by that post-credits scene and Bentley's monologue. Not much to do about that.
I enjoyed Thieves in Time but yes --- The ending was an obnoxious cliffhanger but the thing I personally HATED the most was what they did to Penelope. They forgotten how masterful they used Neyla in Sly 2. I loved how awesome Neyla was from the prologue essentially until the end of the third level and then they managed to successfully make me DESPISE her for the rest of the game. That plot twist was golden. Penelope just "vanished" and then it was such in your face hints that she was the bad guy. ONE. Bad guy uses time travel machine tech which Bentley and Penelope were conveniently developing. TWO. Black Baron in Sly 3 - Black Knight in Sly 4. THREE: Her talking out loud to herself as the black knight when you're spying on her in shell shocked heart. FOUR: She just hops out of her armor casually and still talking to herself out loud FIVE: ---- WHY?!?! "I did it for you / us Bentley! We could change the world but you just work for a thief for chump change!" ---- WHAAAT?!?! YOU WERE WORKING ON A TIME MACHINE WITH HIM!!! You sold out to a DIFFERENT thief without any code of honor and whose whole lifegoal is no better than clockwork OR the final boss of sly 3. Her literal motivation is a combination of those two. She was never anywhere near close to even being in my top 5 favorite characters from the series --- but the way they did her was so dirty. Especially after the previous game literally redeemed The Panda King and Dimitri.

Since Sly 1-3 got re released on ps recently, I’m still hoping Sly 4 gets added too. I never owned a ps3 back in the day so I never had the chance to play it. As a diehard fan of the series, I don’t care what they do story wise or what direction they take the game in I’d just be glad to get another one. Like with the Yakuza series I haven’t cared for the direction they’ve been going with those games since Yakuza 6 but I still play the new ones cause I love the series.
Thieves in time was probably the best or the 2nd best in the series and no one wants to admit it. Most people won’t even go back and give it another try and they’re missing out
I just want another game to tie off the story (again). With an ending showing Sly, Murray, and Bentley as friends, and Sly and Carmelita as a couple. I don't care if it's a short game, I just want it. Until then I will just imagine that Carmalita and the gang got him back and then they live happily ever after (like I explained before). IF you want to be able to leave room of a sequel, they could add showing Sly and Carmelita having kids. So in a MAYBE future game you play as the kids (when they have grown up)
One of THE Best Epic Video Game franchise of All Time. These guys definitely did a Fantastic Job creating *Sly Cooper* from our Childhood Years. Hopefully, we'll all be able to get *Sly Cooper 5* some day
You're not going deep enough into how much unfair backlash this game got. If I was a developer I'd be crushed. A huge part of the fanbase was horrible!! Here I've been loving EVERYTHING Sly and so many treat the 4th like it's not canon, it didn't happen HELL there's a bunch of people tryna make what they call the "real" Sly 4 with part of the focus being on Sly and Carmelitas kids... one being a thief the other a cop... how original... I feel like I heard that before. I know money talks but so does appalling fans. A lot of what's been said about 4 can also be said of 1-3 as well, but the fans grew up while expecting it to still feel like the good ole days... just like with Star Wars I'll NEVER stop enjoying Sly Cooper.
Bentley says he is making a time machine at the end of Sly 3. Sanzaru didn't just randomly come up with that concept. And with the series emphasis on ancestry it's a good idea. Sly 4 was far from perfect but still good on its own. The issue Sly 4 had was the timing of its 2013 release. 8 years after the trilogy, new studio making it, 3D platformers on the decline, and Sony is about to lean into making more "serious" games, so now we are stuck with a cliffhanger ending.
We are now introducing are favorite raccoon to are kids and they are falling in love with him just as we did. We need to keep him going not just for us but for them. I enjoyed a thief in Time so many hated but I thought it was a good game I loved traveling in time and playing as all of sly ancestors. I know the ending they had a hole dlc made for us but since it did so bad in sales they didn’t release it. Not many know that but it was mentioned by one of the directors in an interview.
Who on earth hates Thieves in Time? The game looks gorgeous, handles well, and adds a bunch of variety to the gameplay/story. It’s not perfect but after nearly a decade it was great to hop back into Sly!
I loved the sly series and just started replying it again, personally when I played TIT I would have liked to see more ancestors play in it,also thought the ending and the timing of the launch it was going to be a jump point to have sly as a launch title for the PS4, but we know how that went I would still welcome the team back to rescue sly. Simple explanation, he’s an underrated character that not enough ppl have seen and given a chance. The games are honestly the best I’ve ever played and have the makings of a great franchise, but not enough people saw and the companies controlling him didn’t make enough money so they dropped him. It’s not fair!!!
As much as the writing and a good chunk of the story itself of Theives in Time is absolute ass, I actually really like it. The gameplay actually felt really smooth and was a nice (albeit small) improvement of Sly 2 and 3's gameplay. I think it gets WAY much more hate than it deserves, though I do agree that the reason they made it is abyssmal.
What many people don't think about is that it sold around 580k on the ps3 in the same year it was going to be replaced with the ps4, and with many big games releasing, but the main thing people forget to mention is comparing the ps3 sales to the ps2. Not only was the ps3 sold a lot mainly because it was the best valued blu-ray player, but it only sold a little over half of what the ps2 did in total. Sly 2 for example sold 1,8m in a time where platformers like these were way bigger and the fans weren't lost to a long wait time between the games. Sly 3 also only sold 830k. So sly 4 did just as well (or better) with sales of the game relative to console sales which is surprising considering the timeline it was released in.
The game was perfectly good, critics and haters just get want to moan and complain about everything. It's literally their job to trash anything they don't deem worthy, yet will praise garbage like it's a 5-star fine dining experience. I think the game deserves another sequel and a movie. It checks off all the boxes for in-depth lore, characters, genre and style. I don't think this video defined the low-points of this game well. They just reiterated what "critics" claimed. This video felt like it lacked it's own heart and soul regarding the opinion and understanding of the game.

Its not that everyone hates the time travel, i mean that was supposed to be the next games thing, but its HOW they made it. I mean the damn game's ending makes a paradox! Good luck fixing that. Might as well reboot the series.
The story concept was fine. It was Sucker Punches idea set up at the end of sly 3. It was the execution in the story beats that were bad. None of the gang are written quite like themselves. Sly being unfaithful to his decision to be with Carmelita was bad ("itching to pull a heist"), Carmelita being douchey about the fact that sly will cease to exist if he didnt go on this adventure. Penelope thoughtlessly turning on Bentley (not bad in itself, and this element could still be salvaged later down the line); shes completely out of character, acting like someone under the influence of hypnosis or a spell or something. Murray goes on a repeated arc that was covered better in earlier games. The concept itself is exactly what we fans wanted though. To play as the ancestors absolutely.
I feel Sly 3 was the worst overall Sly game. I never realized it until the first 3 Sly games came to the PS4 and PS5. As for Sly Thieves in Time wasn't amazing but certainly wasn't bad. The game is a blast on the PlayStation Vita. As for developers we can give it to Team ASOBI of Astro Bot fame.
When I was a kid, I never knew much about Sly Cooper till I played Sly 2. Now, when I got my ps5 and heard that sly has gotten a ps5 port, I gave the first game a shot and I enjoyed it. And I’m sure you all noticed that we’re sick and tired of Sony re-releasing “remastered” games like the last of us part 2 and horizon ps5 remastered (which is UNNECESSARY). And I agree, if Sony wants more money from us, then they should give us what we true gamers want, which is more variety, remakes that deserve it like Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Ape escape, and so on. I played Thieves in Time a few months ago, although the story isn't the best, I liked the game, especially the gameplay. I was surprised by how the fanbase talks badly about this game, as if it were complete garbage.
I'll admit, I think Thieves in time could've done alot better if it was a release title for the ps4 rather than releasing right at the dead end of the ps3 life cycle
It is ashame that Sly franchise, despite being one of the best franchises, ended in a cliffhanger from its last game, and the franchise is discontinued. I don’t know what went wrong with Sly 4 at that time; while story wise it is terrible, the game had great gameplay. Easy to think that the franchise is not cared by Sony or not cared well even if it is because of commercial failure or executive meddling. I am hoping that its sequel, if there is ever going to be in time, would end in a high note and resolve the cliffhanger, even if I do know what would happen after Sly 4. If not a full sequel Sly 5, a spin-off after the events of Sly 4 focusing on Inspector Carmelita Fox and Bentley but also adding in some main/supporting/major characters besides Murray, wouldn’t be a bad game, if the game does not screw up
I've never played the games, but even so, I've watched the cutscences of the games, and they really left the audience with a cliffhanger. Although the franchise is old, who doesn't like to reminisce of the past? Especially ones leaving them hanging.
The thing is, they moved on and they are just porting the ps2 games onto ps4 and ps5. Naughty Dog is also making a new game as well that isn't the last of us for once and they are making Intergalactic The Hertic
I never actually played Sly Cooper games on the old PlayStation consoles, since I only got the XBOX & XBOX 360 instead. But thankfully I got the PS5 now since PS5 has a PS2, PS1 & PSP emulator exclusive for PS4 & PS5 consoles. That means I can get Sly Cooper 1 including Sly Cooper 2 & 3 (If it is coming out soon). But sadly it doesn't have a PS3 emulator exclusive. But hopefully if it does happen coming soon, like next year or whenever which year it is. I might also get the 4th Sly Cooper game in the future (If it is coming for PS3 emulator exclusive for PS4 & PS5.)
I played all Sly games, remember looking through game magazines to see the new still images of Sly 3 when it was in production. For Sly 4, while it was exciting at first, over time it started to bug me (especially the loading time where it took so long just to get to the next scene). And I thought the time travel concept was cool because we get to meet the Cooper ancestors, to me it felt like it wasn't enough because they only got four dudes one of which was kinda outta nowhere and could've been anyone like the pirate lady, the victorian gentleman thief, or even the pilot but we got the caveman instead. The next thing that irked me was Penelope suddenly going AWOL, like maybe she would've been blackmailed or something but nah, she got trashed. And then there's the story arc with Sly and Carmelita, that was awful. Sly became some ahole who just wanted to do whatever while disregarding Carmelita (although to be fair, she did lied to him when he was pretending to have amnesia). It was just one hot mess after another and I wish it could've been done a lot better. As for the final bad guy? He stank, that's all. It was awful and I wish we could've gotten something better than whatever this was.
Another narrative plus for using time travel is the entire franchise focused on Sly's ancestry. Actually meeting some of these ancestors we've been hearing about for the past three games was really fun.

Contrary to what others say, I thought a time travel storyline would work for Sly because we will finally know with our own eyes why Sly’s ancestors were great thieves in their time and what abilities they had that made them stand out.

What i mean is that how sly and Carmelita got together I always never liked the fact that he had the fake Amnesia be with her. I think it would’ve been a really sweet thing if he just was truthful said he wants to give it all up just to be with her.

I am one of the fans who liked Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time when I played it. It reminded me of why I liked Sly 2 back in the day. Regardless of what players think of Thieves in Time, I think Sly deserves a 5th game on PS5 to close out the series. He doesn’t deserve to be lost to time both in game and in real life either.
Despite both Penelope's betrayal and the cliffhanger ending, I also enjoyed Thieves in Time. I just wish people would respect the franchise more.

I hope we get a new Sly game! I remember that Bentley said he was building a Time Machine in the 3rd game so I wasn’t too surprised about the time travel plot. The story didn’t bother cause I’m mainly focused on whether or not I’m having fun playing the game and I had a blast playing all the Sly games!

Sly Cooper has been in my childhood a lot like he is my favorite video game character because I literally grew up with him and the fact that there isn’t a another game in the woodwork right now is really frustrating. As someone who has played all 4 of these games to their entire completion I don't understand why people will moan and complain about the 4th one when its genuinely a good game that was given some love. Playing the 4th one on ps3 after owning the original 3 on ps2 felt like a unique revival for the franchise and i honestly loved the cliffhanger ending because it made me want a 5th game even though that will never happen but it was still a fun game that had a unique art style and cool characters. Whether you think its lazy for time travel to happen as someone who played the old games I wished learning about slys ancestors and how their canes/stealth style would be and thats what sly 4 did. Overall it gets more hate than it deserves and I will not stand for it.
The game is good but what was off for me was the cutscenes. Apart from that the game is a solid 8/10 for me

I don’t understand why people were complaining about Sanzaru games going for the time travel route. That’s literally what was teased at the end of the 3rd game. Bentley said he was making a Time Machine and everyone was making fake posters and stuff with the title ‘Thieves In Time’ long before this game was ever in development. The ending did blow, especially with that lackluster final boss which was nothing but a glorified QTE, but other than that, I can’t really blame the team for working with what they got. If they didn’t focus on time travel, I assure you there would be fans complaining on why it wasn’t included in the 4th entry.

I didn't think Thieves in Time was a bad game in any way. It built up on the premise of Sly's Cooper ancestry, and getting to play as these figures we knew from the lore was a ton of fun, especially since each had their own special abilities. The ending was, yeah, not the best, but for me it still remains a franchise with no bad games.
Getting the Sly movie would have been good. Wish they'd have made it before Ratchet & Clank. That game has a LOT less story. Sly would have been the perfect movie to start with.

Story for Sly Cooper was always goofy, though it made me care it wasn't the Main reason I played. It was a solid Plat/Stealth game with Iconic characters. Though I haven't played Thieves in time because of lack of job and money and now procrastination (sinful of me), I love the way that the game plays. I don't care that the game ended baiting a sequel, because I want one!! GIVE 👏 ME 👏 SLY 👏 5 👏!!

Sly 4 just undid a lot of character development for the sake of getting things back to how they used to be. Which is never what the games was about - they always moved forward both in story and gameplay. The Sly at the end of 3 who gave it all up to have a normal life wouldn't be so eager to betray Carmelita and go back to his old ways, and would only return with great reluctance when he realized the Thievius Raccoonus was in trouble. It'd be a conflict between what his previous life meant to him and what his current one means to him now. Bentley and Murray wouldn't just be reduced to "smart one who is a little jokey" and "dumb one who is a little jokey." They're more than just comedic foils. I like the idea of making them all more jovial and less brooding since they're now adults and have largely worked past a lot of their issues, but there are too many jokes and things made light of that it never feels like they're taking anything seriously. No stakes to the story. Sly had been lying to Carmelita for the longest time and there's never any consequences - they resolve it in a single episode. Penelope turning heel and being about money feels like it's out of nowhere and would have been better if we got to see her develop more throughout the game. Was it a slow dissatisfaction with Bentley? An itch to go back to crime that might work as a foil to Sly's? A want for greater recognition and the wealth that came with it? Who knows what could have worked. Sanzaru sure didn't.

It would be wonderful if a studio would reboot the Thievius Raccoonus; The reboot would have gameplay similar to Band of Thieves with no treasure keys and revamped missions. Also, the boss battles would be more engaging with the Fiendish Five ACTUALLY using the Cooper moves they stole (like Muggshot using Tennessee's rail walk) when fighting Sly. Doing that would impact Sly's line with Clockwerk, "The Thievius Raccoonus doesn't create great thieves... it takes great thieves to create the Thievius Raccoonus!"

That's because the developers of Sly (Sucker Punch) and Jak (Naughty Dog) wanted to focus on solely mature games like Infamous and Last of Us while Insomniac wanted to do both which is why Ratchet remains

I loved the Sly Cooper Trilogy, especially Band of Thieves. Honour Among Thieves wasn't as good as the first two in my own humble opinion, but I still enjoy it, and it had a nice ending.
Then came Thieves in Time. Whilst I would've loved a fourth Sly game, the writing needed to be peak to justify bringing Sly back into thieving. And the best Sanzaru could do was time travel? Really?
I realise the series is supposed to have silly ideas, but that was just too inconsistent and just didn't work. On top of that, I hated what they did with some of the characters, especially Penelope. The villains were too childish and unappealing compared with previous villains. The boss fights weren't memorable, and the missions weren't that fun. Hopefully one day, Sucker Punch will develop a true fourth Sly game that ignores Thieves in Time

In a strong defense of Sly 4's presence and plot, Bentley outright states he's trying to make a time machine at the end of Sly 3. Sanzaru was *told* to make it a time travel plot by that post-credits scene and Bentley's monologue. Not much to do about that.

I enjoyed Thieves in Time but yes --- The ending was an obnoxious cliffhanger but the thing I personally HATED the most was what they did to Penelope. They forgotten how masterful they used Neyla in Sly 2. I loved how awesome Neyla was from the prologue essentially until the end of the third level and then they managed to successfully make me DESPISE her for the rest of the game. That plot twist was golden. Penelope just "vanished" and then it was such in your face hints that she was the bad guy.
ONE. Bad guy uses time travel machine tech which Bentley and Penelope were conveniently developing.
TWO. Black Baron in Sly 3 - Black Knight in Sly 4.
THREE: Her talking out loud to herself as the black knight when you're spying on her in shell shocked heart.
FOUR: She just hops out of her armor casually and still talking to herself out loud
FIVE: ---- WHY?!?! "I did it for you / us Bentley! We could change the world but you just work for a thief for chump change!" ---- WHAAAT?!?! YOU WERE WORKING ON A TIME MACHINE WITH HIM!!! You sold out to a DIFFERENT thief without any code of honor and whose whole lifegoal is no better than clockwork OR the final boss of sly 3. Her literal motivation is a combination of those two.
She was never anywhere near close to even being in my top 5 favorite characters from the series --- but the way they did her was so dirty. Especially after the previous game literally redeemed The Panda King and Dimitri.

Since Sly 1-3 got re released on ps recently, I’m still hoping Sly 4 gets added too. I never owned a ps3 back in the day so I never had the chance to play it. As a diehard fan of the series, I don’t care what they do story wise or what direction they take the game in I’d just be glad to get another one. Like with the Yakuza series I haven’t cared for the direction they’ve been going with those games since Yakuza 6 but I still play the new ones cause I love the series.

I just want another game to tie off the story (again). With an ending showing Sly, Murray, and Bentley as friends, and Sly and Carmelita as a couple. I don't care if it's a short game, I just want it. Until then I will just imagine that Carmalita and the gang got him back and then they live happily ever after (like I explained before). IF you want to be able to leave room of a sequel, they could add showing Sly and Carmelita having kids. So in a MAYBE future game you play as the kids (when they have grown up)
One of THE Best Epic Video Game franchise of All Time. These guys definitely did a Fantastic Job creating *Sly Cooper* from our Childhood Years. Hopefully, we'll all be able to get *Sly Cooper 5* some day

Here I've been loving EVERYTHING Sly and so many treat the 4th like it's not canon, it didn't happen HELL there's a bunch of people tryna make what they call the "real" Sly 4 with part of the focus being on Sly and Carmelitas kids... one being a thief the other a cop... how original... I feel like I heard that before. I know money talks but so does appalling fans. A lot of what's been said about 4 can also be said of 1-3 as well, but the fans grew up while expecting it to still feel like the good ole days... just like with Star Wars

Sly 4 was far from perfect but still good on its own. The issue Sly 4 had was the timing of its 2013 release. 8 years after the trilogy, new studio making it, 3D platformers on the decline, and Sony is about to lean into making more "serious" games, so now we are stuck with a cliffhanger ending.

We are now introducing are favorite raccoon to are kids and they are falling in love with him just as we did. We need to keep him going not just for us but for them. I enjoyed a thief in Time so many hated but I thought it was a good game I loved traveling in time and playing as all of sly ancestors. I know the ending they had a hole dlc made for us but since it did so bad in sales they didn’t release it. Not many know that but it was mentioned by one of the directors in an interview.
Who on earth hates Thieves in Time? The game looks gorgeous, handles well, and adds a bunch of variety to the gameplay/story. It’s not perfect but after nearly a decade it was great to hop back into Sly!

Simple explanation, he’s an underrated character that not enough ppl have seen and given a chance. The games are honestly the best I’ve ever played and have the makings of a great franchise, but not enough people saw and the companies controlling him didn’t make enough money so they dropped him. As much as the writing and a good chunk of the story itself of Theives in Time is absolute ass, I actually really like it. The gameplay actually felt really smooth and was a nice (albeit small) improvement of Sly 2 and 3's gameplay. I think it gets WAY much more hate than it deserves, though I do agree that the reason they made it is abyssmal.

What many people don't think about is that it sold around 580k on the ps3 in the same year it was going to be replaced with the ps4, and with many big games releasing, but the main thing people forget to mention is comparing the ps3 sales to the ps2. Not only was the ps3 sold a lot mainly because it was the best valued blu-ray player, but it only sold a little over half of what the ps2 did in total. Sly 2 for example sold 1,8m in a time where platformers like these were way bigger and the fans weren't lost to a long wait time between the games. Sly 3 also only sold 830k. So sly 4 did just as well (or better) with sales of the game relative to console sales which is surprising considering the timeline it was released in.

The game was perfectly good, critics and haters just get want to moan and complain about everything. It's literally their job to trash anything they don't deem worthy, yet will praise garbage like it's a 5-star fine dining experience. I think the game deserves another sequel and a movie. It checks off all the boxes for in-depth lore, characters, genre and style.
I don't think this video defined the low-points of this game well. They just reiterated what "critics" claimed. This video felt like it lacked it's own heart and soul regarding the opinion and understanding of the game.

The story concept was fine. It was Sucker Punches idea set up at the end of sly 3.
It was the execution in the story beats that were bad. None of the gang are written quite like themselves. Sly being unfaithful to his decision to be with Carmelita was bad ("itching to pull a heist"), Carmelita being douchey about the fact that sly will cease to exist if he didnt go on this adventure. Penelope thoughtlessly turning on Bentley (not bad in itself, and this element could still be salvaged later down the line); shes completely out of character, acting like someone under the influence of hypnosis or a spell or something. Murray goes on a repeated arc that was covered better in earlier games.
The concept itself is exactly what we fans wanted though. To play as the ancestors absolutely.
I feel Sly 3 was the worst overall Sly game. I never realized it until the first 3 Sly games came to the PS4 and PS5. As for Sly Thieves in Time wasn't amazing but certainly wasn't bad. The game is a blast on the PlayStation Vita. As for developers we can give it to Team ASOBI of Astro Bot fame.

When I was a kid, I never knew much about Sly Cooper till I played Sly 2. Now, when I got my ps5 and heard that sly has gotten a ps5 port, I gave the first game a shot and I enjoyed it.
And I’m sure you all noticed that we’re sick and tired of Sony re-releasing “remastered” games like the last of us part 2 and horizon ps5 remastered (which is UNNECESSARY). And I agree, if Sony wants more money from us, then they should give us what we true gamers want, which is more variety, remakes that deserve it like Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Ape escape, and so on. I played Thieves in Time a few months ago, although the story isn't the best, I liked the game, especially the gameplay. I was surprised by how the fanbase talks badly about this game, as if it were complete garbage.

It is ashame that Sly franchise, despite being one of the best franchises, ended in a cliffhanger from its last game, and the franchise is discontinued. I don’t know what went wrong with Sly 4 at that time; while story wise it is terrible, the game had great gameplay. Easy to think that the franchise is not cared by Sony or not cared well even if it is because of commercial failure or executive meddling. I am hoping that its sequel, if there is ever going to be in time, would end in a high note and resolve the cliffhanger, even if I do know what would happen after Sly 4. If not a full sequel Sly 5, a spin-off after the events of Sly 4 focusing on Inspector Carmelita Fox and Bentley but also adding in some main/supporting/major characters besides Murray, wouldn’t be a bad game, if the game does not screw up

I've never played the games, but even so, I've watched the cutscences of the games, and they really left the audience with a cliffhanger. Although the franchise is old, who doesn't like to reminisce of the past? Especially ones leaving them hanging.
The thing is, they moved on and they are just porting the ps2 games onto ps4 and ps5. Naughty Dog is also making a new game as well that isn't the last of us for once and they are making Intergalactic The Hertic
I never actually played Sly Cooper games on the old PlayStation consoles, since I only got the XBOX & XBOX 360 instead. But thankfully I got the PS5 now since PS5 has a PS2, PS1 & PSP emulator exclusive for PS4 & PS5 consoles. That means I can get Sly Cooper 1 including Sly Cooper 2 & 3 (If it is coming out soon). But sadly it doesn't have a PS3 emulator exclusive. But hopefully if it does happen coming soon, like next year or whenever which year it is. I might also get the 4th Sly Cooper game in the future (If it is coming for PS3 emulator exclusive for PS4 & PS5.)
I played all Sly games, remember looking through game magazines to see the new still images of Sly 3 when it was in production. For Sly 4, while it was exciting at first, over time it started to bug me (especially the loading time where it took so long just to get to the next scene). And I thought the time travel concept was cool because we get to meet the Cooper ancestors, to me it felt like it wasn't enough because they only got four dudes one of which was kinda outta nowhere and could've been anyone like the pirate lady, the victorian gentleman thief, or even the pilot but we got the caveman instead.
The next thing that irked me was Penelope suddenly going AWOL, like maybe she would've been blackmailed or something but nah, she got trashed. And then there's the story arc with Sly and Carmelita, that was awful. Sly became some ahole who just wanted to do whatever while disregarding Carmelita (although to be fair, she did lied to him when he was pretending to have amnesia). It was just one hot mess after another and I wish it could've been done a lot better.
As for the final bad guy? He stank, that's all. It was awful and I wish we could've gotten something better than whatever this was.
Another narrative plus for using time travel is the entire franchise focused on Sly's ancestry. Actually meeting some of these ancestors we've been hearing about for the past three games was really fun.
