Oh Isis, So wonderful to see that your mom has joined you! A multigenerational home has so much life experience to bring to the table. I'm 69 and a widow 15 years. This year my 43 year old son and I bought a new home together and are learning to live in harmony. Patience and acceptance are utmost important to navigate this shared life. Your mother is absolutely beautiful and will only enhance the quality of your and Bertus' life - kitties too. So happy for you!!!
I admire both of your calm manner when tackling each job, my head would be spinning with such a huge project. The kitties are adorable and very playful which much bring joy to your daily tasks around the farm. See you next week!
Well done with the rose cuttings Isis! I’m happy your mother is now living with you. It is so nice that you are able to have the multi-generational home that you want.
I really appreciate the cinematography, it always feels like I am watching a short film. It's much different then your typical renovation channel and for that I thank you. It's great to see your journey and the ability to also appreciate your surrounding area.
It looks like the kittens are not disappointed in the entertainment department lol. I love it when they are so playful. Great to see your mom there, I'm sure she'll find loads of potential projects as well.❤️
One of the things I like about your homestead is that it's the antidote to the tiny home craze. You have a home big enough that there are corners where you haven't yet discovered, even a few years in with all your energy. There is space for the cats to wander and for things to find their proper places.
What a joy to have your mother with you! Doubtless, she will also be of tremendous assistance with projects and perhaps dinners, too! :). Regards from Texas
My new happy place is watching you two organize and create and study nature. Especially when watching Bertus in his work shop, woodworking is so fascinating. I'm so thankful you two decided to create this vlog on youtube, its been really helpful while dealing with all of the chaos and despair in the US recently. Your voiceovers are also calming, and pairs so nicely with the video. See you next week!
It's great that your mum has come to live with you. The cats have settled in very well and you can see how happy they are with you and each other. Beautiful weather still with you, wonderful views as always and work that little by little will lead you to your dream beautiful home. Best regards and see you there.
I love the way you break up your weeks work, so many times we focus on one task and lose sight of the fact that we (you) have time on your side, thank you so much 😊
I'm new to your channel and I've just finished binge-watching the whole of the story so far. It's been an amazing journey and I look forward to seeing how your beautiful home develops. The only down side for me now is having to wait a week for each update! But I know it will be worth it 😊
Wishing you a good week. Can't wait to see you again next Sunday. You are one of the two working families I follow on youtube. You are very talented, highly skilled and just wonderful. I'm glad to see the family at the cascina is gowing. 🍂🧡🍂
Hi I’ve been following you for a while now and really enjoy watching. You are an amazing couple and you are doing a beautiful job . Look forward to the next episodes ❤️😘
Love to see your mom has come to join you. Love the work you are doing and how much you have done in the time you have been there…the kittens are so fun.😊
Your woodworking skills are impressive. I especially like how well the both of you work together….although, in reality I’m sure there are “discussions” that are not filmed. Thank you so much for recording your progress❤️
Well done with all you achieved over summer with your indefatigable energy. The roof is major work and I'm curious to see how you approach it. I'm glad your mother has made it and the house is well prepared for her until her space is renovated, again major work to be undertaken but I'm confident that anything can be achieved with you two.
Welcome to the farmhouse, Mom! Isis, thank you for your honesty about "adjusting schedules." That would have been the case with my mom, too. Love, love, love the kittens playing around Bertus when he is working :-)
I admire your prep process. It seems you take as much care to get everything needed for the project at hand as you do in actually working on the repairs. They say, " Preparation is everything". Thx for your videos. They inspire me to keep improving and working on our 16 acres in the Texas hill country!
Lovely, composed update. Great to see the kittens playing together and love the growing of the hedge and other plantings .By the way, did you know that it's now good to put the video number at the end of the title instead of the beginning because the RUclips algorithm doesn't like numbers at the beginning?
You guys never cease to amaze me. Following you since day one and still waiting every Sunday for your updates. Here: ❤❤❤ Nice that mom is on the premise, even though you have to adjust a little. I'm stressed about the cats: I'm a dog guy but I don't mind cats, it's just they're so independent that I'll freak out to leave them roaming free...
How nice to have your mother with you before winter sets in! The kittens are so entertaining, can't help but laugh at their antics. Hope your rose cuttings all take root. I'm planting bulbs between rain showers, had to put out frost fleece once, but took it up the next day. Such a clever drawer for the bathroom! Thanks for all the beautiful drone shots.
Happy to hear your Mom has moved in! You two work very hard and I need a nap/siesta after watching! I love watching your cats frolic and follow each of you. Your whole video is always a joy to watch. Karen from NYC.
Isis, you look so good! Healthy... happy... wich I see with both of you ! To me it sounds so right that your Mom now lives with you... in futur in an own Apartment... Always I loved Generation housing! Wish you all good time... as you have. Regards from Austria, Hedwig
So happy to see your new video pop up…I’ve been watching out for a new one..I am still amazed how previous owners have used the ceilings and attic etc for a very untidy storage room ..it never ends ..still more under where you are doing the new roof…thanks for sharing….oh and I love the way the cats follow you both about your daily work…🇦🇺🇦🇺
What a great job you guys are doing. I know the soup is delicious. God bless mommy and both of you for extending love and care to your family and kittens. Blessings ❤️
Great video, love the pace you set. Nothing rushed, everything explained. Nice to see mum is now with you, I’m sure she will add a new dimension to all your restoration works. Does mum have a particular skills set or is she like the rest of you, meticulous in your research before tackling any and all jobs? At the end of video where you are replanting your hibiscus the are a couple of shots of a fortress/castleup higher than you. What is it please? Hope you have a dry week to enable you to tackle the roof situation❤
Wonderful your home is now nice and warm and your windows draft free. Getting more and more gezellig with each new video. Seems to me this usually happens around the two year mark for all RUclipsrs. Speaking of which, will you be putting up a Christmas Tree this year or, too tempting for your cats? ....and oh how wonderful for your mom and, for the both of you; always an adjustment but lots of room for all. Envy. ♥️🇨🇦 Maria
It is early here...just after 6:00 a.m. that I am watching this weeks episode. We must share some old DNA because the "order" in which you keep the cascina and the land is familiar to my own sense of aesthetic. I particularly enjoyed the nighttime videography and (naturally) watching the young kittens grow and scamper about with the two of you. Community and family are most important in these days and with how large the main building is there is plenty of room to have a separate apartment for "Mom" in the future.
Love, "The Stories from the Cascina"! I live in a Victorian Italianate fixer-upper stateside of the pond. I look at all details of tools. I've been inspired by; the salvage / restoration work on window frames, The gritty nasty work in cleaning the cellars., the reusage of wood 🪵🪓 for the fires 🔥, ... Also I'm inspired by Brent Hull Company and Brent Hull Build channel on RUclips, Restoration Nation, Brothers of Decay, ...
Oh those cats, they are beautiful and having such fun. How lovely having your mum move in. Will you be building her apartment or is she getting her own builders? Such a visually beautiful video.
I live in Rimini in Emilia-Romagna, since you now have 2 beautiful kittens I would like to send you some Nepeta Cataria seeds just for them.... they love it! ❤😊
Ciao dalle Dolomiti. 👍👍👍
Slate at the eaves is very common across Europe and was used to create a greater overhang and discharge water away from the walls (prior to cheap guttering). Tiles generally, because of their size, can not.
To me, slate roofs have an unreplaceable beauty and represent an authentic vernacular architecture of those regions, based on local materials and ancient crafts, as opposed to the industrial tiles, which represent the coming of the industrial age, of imported materials, of standardisation and atrophy of building skills. Unfortunately, far too many of these roofs across the Italian Alps and Apennines have been replaced by more banal tiles, except where heritage preservation laws expressly forbade it. If it were up to me, I would have no doubt, I would keep them, no matter the cost, no matter the learning curve. Because they are precious for what they are and what they represent. I understand the constraints, but I had at least hoped you would have kept that edge that still remained, showing how the roof once was. Very, very sad that you will remove it :(
you're absolutely right 😊 they were only in the sun for a short while as i was tying them in bundles. they are currently drying in the most chaotic storage room 🙃
My mom and I are both intuitive cooks but this is probably more or less what went in: 1 butternut squash 1 acorn squash 3 large onions 1/2 head of garlic a 3cm knob of ginger 1 tbsp (whole) cumin seeds instant chicken broth (or veggie broth) salt & pepper to taste some olive oil or butter to sautee the onion Buon appetito! 😊

Ive got a question. Was wondering if any roses can be regrown like you have? Very interesting. And what a job it's gonna be to repair your roof. So love your channel.
One thing about roses is that some varieties have a lovely show but poor roots so they are grafted onto stronger, but nonshowy roots. If you want to propagate, you need to know if your roots are the same as the flower.
From what I've read it usually works best with older rose varieties and especially with botanical roses. The ones I am propagating are older but not botanical ones. I've seen people have great succes propagating roses this way so curious to try and learn :-)
Thanks for replying. I have a miniature yellow rose bush that a dear friend bought me and she has since passed. I cut it back for the winter but wanted to try what your achieving. This is so small but is a might rose bush. Not even to my knees but gave over 2 dozen beautiful flowers.

instant chicken broth (or veggie broth)
salt & pepper to taste
