i consider myself beeing an introvert thats why i rarely approach people by myself. but when i visited my grandma in italy as a kid, i always looked forward to also visit the neighbours. anna-maria was a sweet old lady. she loved baking and her roses and had a dog called susie that got occasionally insulted when it ran over the flowers. its a small village, people know each other and we always had a heartwarming welcome when we came. i'm not sure why i tell you this.. try to enjoy making others happy like anna-maria did, and you will too live a long, healthy and happy life.
Good Decision to come to live in Italy, especially if your mom is already here. 👍 I came to Italy too years ago, but it was for love and I didn't need to look to property. We are living in an area of Torino and I would like to suggest some places to visit where you can take very good pictures. On the first place it is Gran Paradiso National Park, there is Col di Nivolet and Punta di Belvedere, from this point you can see two incredible lakes, one is green but the other one is Blu, it is my favorite place on the Planet Earth - every time I am there I see them in different colors, it is magic place! 😊 The second one we go more often because it is closer, it is Moncenisio lake, just at the border in France. Good place to relax and walk, you can also visit some small villages down there. From there sometimes we go to Col de Iseran, sometimes we get snow there in the summer.😅 Sometimes we make big tours in France. One of them is via Moncenisio lake, Col de Iseran and then enter in Valle d'Aosta in Italy. The other one is via Val Susa, Cesana, Monginevro, Briancon in France, then Call du Galibier, Modane, Moncenisio lake and enter in Italy. Another interesting tour is to go to Colle dell'Agnello, Col d'Isoard that is a spectacular place, then Briancon and via Cesana to enter Italy. If you like to hike go to Monviso that is nearby you or to Cervino in Valle d'Aosta. Nearby here in Piemonte and Valle d'Aosta you can visit many castles and fortress as Exilles, Forte delle Finestrelle, Fénis, Bard, ecc. In autumn we like to make a tour nel Le Langhe, the colors are picturesque! 😊 Ah yes, visit also Lago Maggiore with it's island Isola Bella, che e molto bella, and Isola dei Pescatori, also the near Lago d'Orta. But you know Italia is so beautiful place and I love it, as I love my native country Bulgaria. 😊 For some of the places I wrote to you I have some videos here, take a look. For Moncenisio I should publish it soon. Take in consideration that places like Moncenisio and Gran Paradiso are closed in the snowy months! So use the summer to visit these places. 😊

Hi Andrew! She definitely did, and thank you for reflecting that back! The way we see it is that allowing the process to be non-linear, is allowing that which needs to find you to come on your path. Hi Issis & Bertus, Nice meeting you again,a great story about your Odyssee true Europe to find your place of Dreams🤙🍀🇮🇹, Thanks for sharing, Greetings.Hubertus🇳🇱🇳🇴🙏🏻☮
Hello my Piemontesi friends, you did the right thing choosing Piemonte,we have been living here since 1984,having moved from Lombardia.People are more friendly than the Lombards
Lovely to see you both and thank you for such a detailed explanation of your journey. It constantly amazes me that we always end up where we are supposed to be without necessarily being aware during the process that it only happens in that exact moment and that exact place. I have been patiently waiting for over ten years now to find it and I have had to let go of all my expectations that it would be easy and just keep living where I am until that time.
thx for sharing your journey to actually finding your place. I feel like I am 'in the waiting room'-episode, I don't yet have the actual money to buy, it is still in other shared property. I have found a place I really like. I like your little steps approach and how to keep the candle burning. And I like the non-linear perspective... I also have the feeling it goes that way. It is like dancing with life and listen to the music of it, where does the music push you to. Wishing you all the best 💮
Thank you! When we started dreaming ten years ago we were fresh out of university, with only one no stable income and some study dept. A lot can happen in 10 years - if you dance with life and listen to the music :-)
Glad to hear you're enjoying it! I would say that Bertus is the more methodical thinker and I'm the more intuitive one :-) We complement each other very well in that respect :-) The restlessness you mention is very familiar. But if there's one thing that this process has taught us, it is to be patient, with ourselves, and with the world really. This has spilled over into many other domains of our lives, including our businesses. The times where it has felt easy is when we approached it with patience and relaxing into the unknown. The times where it felt hard is where we were pushing to make things fit that linear time-line that we are so used to :-)
Glad your dreams are coming true and you are sharing your journey with us. Yes Canadians and Americans have many similarities, but also a lot of differences. Having lived in both countries the biggest difference would be Americans not knowing much about Canada. Whereas Canadians are totally influenced by the US on daily basis. I’ve also lived in the Netherlands twice, i continue to practice my Dutch with the Duolingo app!

I can relate on climate choices. I'm from the NW corner of Washington state in the US and prefer cooler weather. My wife is Turkish and prefers warmer weather. We're living in Izmir Turkey and I'm burning up right now. Today is 107F. 🥵
Thanks for sharing :) It is interesting to know your reasoning for why you have chosen this area and property. I am in England. We very very rarely get any forest fires and also very rare to get an earthquake - and even then, I’m not sure they have been bad enough to cause damage to buildings. We do however get lots of rain, and flooding seems to have become more common. So you referred to maps for earthquake and fire risk, I look at flooding risk! I hadn’t realised that you can drive back to friends and family within a day - does that mean you will have lots of visitors (friends and family) to come and help you with the renovations? …… or will they be hoping for relaxing visits 😊 Thanks again for you video and hoping that your packing/planning for your move in July is going smoothly.
Hi guys. I came across your channel yesterday and have enjoyed watching the early videos. I'm an English guy who moved to the Marche region of Italy approximately 12 years ago. I moved under different circumstances to you guys and have lived in a modern property by the Adriatic for my time here. In the very near future when some finances come into effect I am going to buy a property to renovate in my region. It's been great to watch how you approached the work, I'm sure behind the scenes things weren't always as relaxed but it's given me some initial ideas. Bravi regazzi.
you are truly bless. i too have always wished for the same you have. we immigrated from germany to canada and i tell you it was a big mistake. europe is our home and italy calls me like it called you. hoping i to can make my dream a reality would be a blessing. love what you have done and how you live life. God Bless you
Hello im a new sub here, i just came accrossed your channel, i find your videos so amazing ! I wish to see more videos, while going through renovations, i love the nature, its so breathtaking..
Greetings from the Netherlands! I feel so fortunate that your channel found its way onto my youTube page! No idea how that happened, exactly, but its been really fun watching you folks on all of your projects. I really want to thank you for clarifying something for me about my inability to ever feel at home in Holland even after 20 years. (I’m an American who moved to Holland to be with my Dutch husband.) Learning the language turned out to be incredibly difficult for me and even after all these years I am still not comfortable with it. But Isis, I think you put your finger on the real problem which is that no matter what I do… I will always be a buitenlander in every situation here. After twenty years and actually FOR twenty years this has been really quite painful. I think maybe its that knowing which has blocked me in becoming more at ease w Dutch. Its like I dont want to let go of that fundamental piece of my identity … my mother tongue. Hearing you speak about your feelings of always being “that Belgian girl” really struck home with me. It felt good to know that someone else … even someone fairly fluent in Dutch (with Vlaams refinements❤) has felt this way too. So thanks for that! You followed with another observation that were you to move to Belgium … then it would be Bergus feeling this way. My husband and I now understand a bit better why we also would prefer to live not in Holland or the USA BUT in a more nationality neutral place, as you say. Not sure we’ll make that happen. We are in our middle 70’s now. But who knows! Maybe one day we’ll come visit you folks in Italy. Many thanks for your lovely hospitality here. ❤️
Thank you for your openness. As well as the graphs with all the faultiness of a possible earth quake. I have been looking in Abruzzo and Umbria. Now I"m open to Piemonte.
we are definitely not trying to say "don't buy in abruzzo" we know people who have and are super happy there. for us the combination of factors made us settle on the north. be sure to check out @brambletye. they are in abruzzo :)
Love your explanation and so intrigued about all the countries so close together.I live in Australia in Victoria and three of my children moved to Queensland which is two days travel away on reasonable roads out of towns and not though mountains so to think that so much is so close is mind blowing to the likes of us.our area is semi rural now we have neighbours, not when we moved here,we are in bush fire area and have been burnt out once, rebuilt quite quickly ,which is not happening to people now, even major storm damage is taking a couple of years to get fixed for many people, and that is now the major issues we live with, but we love it here and feel at home.
Thank you, have just found you so now binge watching your journey to catch up. Really appreciate those tips to keep the dream alive. Have found our spot in Southern Tasmania but after 5 years still living in a caravan. Patience grasshopper 🦗
I finally started your video from the beginning, for I watched several others. What I appreciate about yal's story, though you work very hard, ya'l seem so laid back and calm. I really appreciate your background music, that it's soft and fits your lifestyle. ❤
it's amazing to see you've come so far to get to your dream! We're in our 2nd year of our 10 year plan to buy a house in Italy and seeing this is inspiring.
You will never believe it, but 5th opa was from.piemonte in Italy. He immigrated to Amsterdam, the family ended up in Leiden and immigrated to NZ after WW2. I get your reasons totally. Groetjes Rolanda ❤
In the beginning of your video I asked my self: Why not Germany? I am from south-west Germany, Palatinate region. This is quite rural. The large, old farm house of our family was sold for just 75k€. But then: Yes. The house is large and has a large garden. But it is still in a village. Solitary houses with farm land around are somewhat uncommon in Germany.
That was interesting. We're all from so many different places and backgrounds - but all have one thing in common. We like peace and quiet in nature, aperitivo's, wine and staring at awesome views. As you've probably realised, you can go out with all good intentions to dig half a veg patch, get to lunch time and look, and you're lucky if you've dug about 4 rows, if that, from being distracted by the scenery, or a woodpecker, or cuckoo, or whatever. You're well prepared with having done some lessons beforehand. I turned up here alone, not speaking a word of the language, met an italian doctoressa on the beach in Liguria, she brought me up to Turin and then I got into snowboarding. We want our own ways (or should I say I went a different way) and ended up staying. I think you're in the right place to quickly improve your Italian though - my first few years were split between Liguria, Turin and the ski resorts where most people who work in tourism, speak English so I was lazy. It was only when I moved down the valley to a village where hardly anybody speaks english and then only very little, that it forced more to speak Italian. Then of course you go through the stage of listening to everyone and always apologising and explaining your learning in case they think you're being nosey. Eventually you reach a level of confidence to try and speak yourself. Wine helps there too. haha
Congrats for the decision and courage to take such a huge project! The project is nicely evolving. The region looks nice and decision around moving to Italy makes sense given some relatives also being not so far away. The list of alternative countries was nice. Personally, I think that mediteranium/alpine part wins over the rest. Though personally would move to different country than you as a result of long term prospects as Italy is in a structural decline and will continue to be declining for foreseeable future. As such, infrastructure and basic services will continue to deteriorate. Which is some other cases is not looking to be the case.
Het is eigenlijk wel grappig dat jullie identiek dezelfde conclusies trekken als wij mbt de locatie ivm temperatuur, natuur, nabijheid NL/BE, etc. Fijn om bevestigd te zien :)
Thank you Isis and Bertus, that was really interesting and insightful. I guess the beautiful nearby coastline makes it a more expensive area ? Personally, as a Brit, to avoid the heat, I'd be looking at the foothills of the Western Alps.
glad it was insightful! we are about an hour drive from the sea, but we haven't noticed any price influences because of it. the ligurian coast line is definitely more expensive but real estate prices in the mountains (even the ligurian mountains) are much lower.
temperatures at the foothills of the alps and where we are (we have an elevation of 550m above sea level) are very similar. we've also looked for property there, actually that's where our search in piemonte started, but we've organically ended up a bit more to the east 😊
Thank you for the video; it was really helpful. You mentioned that one option was to explore properties in Slovenia. Could you please share your experience, if any, in finding good options there? Are properties generally more expensive? Is it difficult to obtain permits for renovations, and are there other factors to consider?
I’m sure I’m not the only one who is envious of you being able to live your dream. I live in Brisbane, Australia and I am particularly envious of Europeans having sooo many beautiful countries on your doorstep to choose where you’d like to live - to me it would be such a gift to NOT have to spend 27 hours on a plane to visit Europe, where I have always wanted to live since I was first there in my early 20’s… sadly it will never be a possibility for me. I sympathise with Isis about not liking the look of Holland as I feel the same about Australia - to me it is ugly (at least Queensland is), burnt out, unbearably hot and humid. The landscape, to me, looks dead and lifeless and the bush is not pleasant to look at or be in. Unlike Europe which is beautiful and green and I believe safe from poisonous snakes. The worse thing about living where I do is that the heat and humidity from summer is never ending, lasting at least 7 - 8 months of the year. Being outdoors is unbearable as you feel like you are being cooked alive and you sweat like a pig all day, so you spend all your time indoors in the air conditioning hiding from the heat and humidity - & we feel like we are in prison. It’s only really comfortable to be outdoors in our ‘winter’ which is in June & July. Sooo, I live vicariously through people like yourselves who relocate throughout Europe and create their dream lives. I eagerly look forward to your updates, thanks for sharing.
I also live in Australia but my feelings are completely different I live in the ranges of Victoria which is green 90% of the year and you can spend much more time outdoors.if you don’t like Brisbane look further around Australia there are many beautiful places with different climates and scenery so don’t knock the whole country instead explore the country till you find an area you like that is more like your beloved Europe and move there.
@@elizabethstreeter2145 Yes, I completely agree with you that Victoria and many other places in Australia have beautiful green scenery with reasonable summers. I wasn’t ‘knocking’ Australia, I was stating a fact as it affects me and many others I know in Qld. Lots of people like me don’t have the freedom to move interstate let alone overseas due to extended family commitments that make relocating impossible. I’d move in a heartbeat if it wasn’t the case… and I can understand why you love Victoria so much, if I could live anywhere in Australia, Victoria would be my first choice.
Weird take. Australia on much of the east coast heading south has great climate. You may have visited Europe but you obv have no clue how 1700h of sunshine a year feel. Winters are long, cold and dark. It's no coincidence that suicide rates are so high here. Seasonal depression is real. Not to speak of low salaries in much of Europe, compared to AUS or the US. The nicer places are crazy expensive to live in and in pretty sure you wouldn't gain anything over living in Sydney or Melbourne. You're a classic case of selective attention and frankly, you have no clue what you have in AUS. You don't even know how easy you have it.
You really considered everything guys: cheers! But I can assure you if you get a good honest Geometra that can tell you everything about a building, including the seismic regions, it's kind downhill from there
We have a geometra, she came recommended so let's hope that indeed it will be an easy journey :-) with plenty of good challenges, but without too much struggle ;-)
Well Thankyou for letting us share your story..I am enjoying your home renovations..I only found your site today. I was also wondering if you were learning the Italian language and you have answered that..I’m looking forward to seeing all of your early videos ..🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
we decided to do a seperate video on that part of the journey as this one was getting quite long and it felt rushed to tackle it all. so, that one's coming your way sometime this summer :)
I think there are thousands of people around the world, including me myself, dreaming about having a lovely place in Italy or any other european country, you could be an advocate/ real estate agent / mentor or helping hand for these people whos close connection and knowledge is not enough Please let me know if you taking any steps like that,
Well with Rutte as the prime minister, I'd sure leave the Netherlands too. He seems to be destroying what used to be such an efficient, cosmopolitan, people appreciative country.
So interesting to hear what makes people move to a new land. My opinion is that you two made the right move. No cows in holland coming soon is a good reason to move. Being able to have your own land to "grow your own foods" might be very smart reason too. How about medical now that you will be living there? I learned a lot on this video on where to live in Italy. It would drive me mad about the permitting process for sure. So in your area, it is still strict on building codes? There was no information regarding your alien status? How does that work? Thank you.
Yes, we'll also have to deal with strict building codes! Those are the same all over Italy. Regarding the "alien status": we aren't going into this too much as we are European citizens and don't have to deal with visa etc. so we can't speak from personal experience about that process.
Very interesting video. What did you both do for work back in the Netherlands? And what work will you be doing remotely in Italy to fund your life there as you probably won’t be getting local employment, at least not immediately.
We moved! The last month we drove up and down between The Netherlands and Italy twice and between that and unpacked computers editing moved to the background for a while :-)
Love your videos and what you’re doing…..what roughly is the price you have to pay for something like your beautiful place because I’am thinking of moving there also…..🤗
we'll be doing a video on this topic in the fall/winter. it all depends on what size of house and land you want. but generally, for something the size of ours with lots of work to be done asking prices are around 250.000-300.000 euro. our house is huge though and not what most people would need or even want 😊
We did, actually but it never made it to our shortlist. It's where my late stepfather was from. But for reasons that can't be explained by ratio, it didn't feel like a place where we'd like to settle down. In no way do we feel that the regions where we looked are "better" than other areas in Italy - and we're looking forward to making many trips to all that Italy has to offer in the future, as we have been doing in the past years as well.
Veo todos los vídeos, me encantan, podría ser posible poner el traductor de idioma al español. Sería genial, consulta cuánto se pagó la casa en el estado que estaba? Cómo para tener idea de costo de una propiedad saludos desde argentina
Hi! We will look into if and how we can set up subtitles in different languages. We plan to do a video on the cost of the property in the future, when the time feels right for us to do so. Possibly this winter. :-) Thank you for watching!
Just wondering, what income you both will be living off and how will you pay for renovations..I noticed you are a photographer and what type of work does your partner do...will you both be looking for employment in italy??
Hi Joseph! We are both self-employed and won't be looking for employment here. We are moving over our own businesess to Italy. And we have savings to get started with the renovation. My work these days is mostly online (I coach other creative business owners) and we are steadily building an adittional income stream from making these videos as well.

yes, definitely!!! thank you ebonie and martin! ❤️
I think I’ve got the fever for Italy too, great to hear your detailed story and tips.
glad it was valuable! best of luck with persuing the fever/dream 😉
I can relate on climate choices. I'm from the NW corner of Washington state in the US and prefer cooler weather. My wife is Turkish and prefers warmer weather. We're living in Izmir Turkey and I'm burning up right now. Today is 107F. 🥵
Thanks for sharing :)
It is interesting to know your reasoning for why you have chosen this area and property.
…… or will they be hoping for relaxing visits 😊
Thanks again for you video and hoping that your packing/planning for your move in July is going smoothly.
we do expect occasional family/friend visits, both from people who are eager to help and people who are eager to rest 😉
Thank you for such detailed explanation of your journey and of your dreams. Looking forward to following your progress. 🤗
God Bless you
Another very interesting story from you. Thanks for sharing. All the best with the move!
Super interesting, thanks so much for the insight.
you're welcome 😊
I just found your channel and really enjoyed this video. Looking forward to catching up and following your journey!
Thanks for watching!
Jullie doen wat wij willen. Maar dan in Puglia. Dank jullie voor de video’s, wij steken er veel van op ❤
veel plezier met jullie droom tot leven wekken!
Hi all, let's get this marvelous channel up to 100k subs. Pronto!
Thank you for sharing your process for finding your perfect property.
you're welcome ❤️
What a beautiful place.....and safe from all is happening in Nederlands now. I can relate to flat open spaces ..they make me uneasy and vulnerable
Thank you for your openness. As well as the graphs with all the faultiness of a possible earth quake. I have been looking in Abruzzo and Umbria. Now I"m open to Piemonte.
we are definitely not trying to say "don't buy in abruzzo" we know people who have and are super happy there. for us the combination of factors made us settle on the north. be sure to check out @brambletye. they are in abruzzo :)
and good luck with you adventure! ❤️
@@storiesfromthecascina BIG FAN of @brambletye and their dog! Great couple!
Thanks for sharing the thinking and process!
So happy to learn your story of moving to Italy! Love it!
Good luck with the move! And I do get the different culture and same language thing...being Canadian 😋
Very interesting! Very much enjoying your vlogs so far and looking forward to watching this adventure. 👏🏻well done to both of you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for sharing and all the best for the future. Looking forward to your next video.
A Heart warming, sincere explanation of what it is... Blessings on your path in realizing your dream and living it moment by moment...💝
Thank you so much!
Ik ben verslaafd aan dit soort filmpje.
What a great episode, thanks for sharing your acquired wisdom. 😊
Glad it was helpful!
it's amazing to see you've come so far to get to your dream! We're in our 2nd year of our 10 year plan to buy a house in Italy and seeing this is inspiring.
Best of luck! Glad to hear this was inspiring :-)
Solitary houses with farm land around are somewhat uncommon in Germany.
i think for at least 4-5 years we were convinced it would be germany for us! 😊
Wine helps there too. haha
I'm pretty fluent now though. Few Italian girlfriends that don't speak English helps. Good for cooking lessons too!
Glad you found what you were looking for, and I hope you achieve all of your goals there.
Just found out channel, I will be watching all you videos from here on !
My grandparents were from Locana, about an hour away from you. I have never visited but I feel they would have lived very similar to you two.
Thank you I so enjoyed your dream You explained how you choose what area you wanted to live in
😎
Very interesting video, thank you.
Thank you for the video; it was really helpful. You mentioned that one option was to explore properties in Slovenia. Could you please share your experience, if any, in finding good options there? Are properties generally more expensive? Is it difficult to obtain permits for renovations, and are there other factors to consider?
Interesting
Loved That
lovely people. xoxo
You should think about building a water tower it would help with your water pressure.
You really considered everything guys: cheers! But I can assure you if you get a good honest Geometra that can tell you everything about a building, including the seismic regions, it's kind downhill from there
We have a geometra, she came recommended so let's hope that indeed it will be an easy journey :-) with plenty of good challenges, but without too much struggle ;-)
very interesting
Well Thankyou for letting us share your story..I am enjoying your home renovations..I only found your site today. I was also wondering if you were learning the Italian language and you have answered that..I’m looking forward to seeing all of your early videos ..🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I love italy ,but I live pakistan for me definitely come to italy
This is So informative ❤
BEST
Thanks for this. :). I still like to hear how you then went about finding the actual house. Idealista? Real Estate agents? Word of mouth?
we decided to do a seperate video on that part of the journey as this one was getting quite long and it felt rushed to tackle it all. so, that one's coming your way sometime this summer :)
@@storiesfromthecascina Nice. Thanks.
Heel inspirerend!
❤
I think there are thousands of people around the world, including me myself, dreaming about having a lovely place in Italy or any other european country, you could be an advocate/ real estate agent / mentor or helping hand for these people whos close connection and knowledge is not enough
Please let me know if you taking any steps like that,
Well with Rutte as the prime minister, I'd sure leave the Netherlands too. He seems to be destroying what used to be such an efficient, cosmopolitan, people appreciative country.
I love that you shared your story, I was hoping that you can tell us what was the total amount of land you have and exactly what it cost you?
Fastest click on a video ever!
Bertus performed in historical equestrian shows as a knight. Isis is an online coach.
@@storiesfromthecascina I can see Burtus as a knight I just had no idea that was still a full time job in Europe. Who knew. 😀
What happened....i didnt see any new videos
We moved! The last month we drove up and down between The Netherlands and Italy twice and between that and unpacked computers editing moved to the background for a while :-)
@@storiesfromthecascina can't wait to see more❣️
I love italy 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Love your videos and what you’re doing…..what roughly is the price you have to pay for something like your beautiful place because I’am thinking of moving there also…..🤗
we'll be doing a video on this topic in the fall/winter. it all depends on what size of house and land you want. but generally, for something the size of ours with lots of work to be done asking prices are around 250.000-300.000 euro. our house is huge though and not what most people would need or even want 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏
@@dr.christopherjohnson4840 Greetings from India, thank you, we hope you are well too.
We have a 26,000 litre tank and a pressure operated pump. Maybe you could look at that
Buona fortuna

Never mentioned how much?
Pity you didn't consider Marche at all, it is a so nice region!
:-) Thank you for watching!
do you receive Summer Rains at your Piemonte Casa?
And is Italian dialect much different in Piemonte?
You are near Monaco then
Just wondering, what income you both will be living off and how will you pay for renovations..I noticed you are a photographer and what type of work does your partner do...will you both be looking for employment in italy??
Hi Joseph! We are both self-employed and won't be looking for employment here. We are moving over our own businesess to Italy. And we have savings to get started with the renovation. My work these days is mostly online (I coach other creative business owners) and we are steadily building an adittional income stream from making these videos as well.
