Joaquim I enjoy tuning into your channel and watching the progress. I'm also Canadian Portuguese and Portugal is in my future although unlike you I was born and raised in Canada but my parents homeland like you feels like home for me. You are doing fantastic work and I look forward to your progress
My son was born in Canada, his parents did a poor job of teaching him Portuguese but, slowly he is learning out of the love for the culture that he simply observed. My hope is that someday he will join me back here.
There is many videos on RUclips about restoration old houses in Portugal by foreign people. Finally come one from português. It's really great to see português coming back to Portugal. ❤
I appreciate the summary of what has been done since you first started. You forget all that has been done after all of the months. Such a good job so far. Your grandparents would be so proud of what you are doing to bring the farm back to life.
@@Joaquim_Conde It looks like you are blending an excellent mix of traditional and modern methods while turning your grandparents homestead into your new home. Those stonemasons have done an amazing job, those walls are absolutely stunning. This was the first of your videos I have seen and I will definitely be following your journey from here and going back to the start to see the more detailed look at your story.
I love to see the original structure save as much as is possible and that such beautiful family history preserved for future generations to enjoy. I'm sure your grandparents would be so proud of what you are creating here and for their farm to come back to life once again too. Cheers and God bless my friend!
If only more Portuguese would feel the call to roots, like you did, this country would be way better! I´m glad you were able to bring back to life a place that gave you good memories and comfort; I can relate to the feeling. Through your journey, I dreamed of mine in my grandparent's Quinta. Bon dia Joaquim, I am a Canadian and looking at what you have a accomplished in 8 months is amazing. Great job! Where are you located exactly? I understand the emotional feelings of going back to where your grandparents lived and wanting to give it life again….I was born in Belgium and my aunts brought me to where my grandparents and great grandparents lived through the 1st and 2nd WW until the 1980 or so. When I was toddler and child I went there for summer week-ends and vacations but didn’t really remember this as we moved to CAnada when I was 5 years old. However when I saw these old houses left almost abandoned I remembered a few things like laughter, sitting around a table all together and those memories came back. It is so wonderful that you will be giving life to your grandparent’s house again, they would be some proud and happy that you will be enjoying the property. Baking bread in your grandmother’s oven, growing corn on your grandfather’s plot, rebuilding the house where laughter will be back again when friends and family will gather over a glass of wine and cornbread. I cannot wait to see you pulling more ivy from the houses’ walls 😅 and seeing it all come to life. We are also looking to move to Portugal and have a small plot of land where I can grow flowers, fig trees, peaches, apricots, cherries etc that we don’t have the chance to grow in Canada unless of course one lives in BC or southern ON. Cyber hugs to you and your wife. Looking forward to seeing how your project progresses.
WOW, well done! You got so much done in such a short time and even have a garden with lovely produce. I enjoy watching your videos; it is so nice to see how much you cherish your ancestors. Thanks for putting it all together again and best of luck with all you want to do and achieve.
Love this video you made and how everything came together like it's spouse to be like that. My grandson have a grandfather on his father's side that immigrated from Madrid when he was 15 year's old . Manuel Caldera was his name and his son Paulo is my soninlaw and grandson is Sebastian. We can only dream to have what you have now. Greetings from South Africa, Cape Town.🙏🤗🌻
I love your videos and your mission to bring your childhood Paradiese to life again! Very bautiful landscape and i like your unique way to tell the story of your property!
You've accomplished a lot in such a short time Joaquim! Everything from the buildings to then gardens look amazing. Can't wait until the next video. Blessings from Ontario, Canada.😊
Thank you so much for posting your project. My heart is aching with appreciation for your dream, your love of stone, the soil, tradition. Yet you have the courage to use new methods to enhance the old.
In just 8 months, phenomenal amount of work done. The transformation is fascinating. Your cornfield is coming on. I didn't think that corn couid be grown on a large scale in Portugal due to the climate. And the onions did very well in such a short period of time. Only 8 months for them? Surely they must be from the previous season? What a wonderful idea to return to the land of your birth and to your Grandparents house and to be able to lovingly restore everything...with improvements. What a journey to there. You'll have to tell us about the 20 yrs leading up to successfully obtaining the title deeds, sometime. It sounds almost like another dimension. Looking forward to future updates.
Quim, those stone masons are keepers, the top of those walls are to perfection and the way they matched the new walls to the old stone work is incredible!

Thank you for the summary video! I have seen many vids but missed some of the early work. I didn’t realize all the overgrowth of the trees, ivy, vines, bushes, etc. What a job! I subscribed a few months ago and look forward to following the progression of the property to the finished homestead. It is an ambitious undertaking, to say the very least. With the addition of the fields, gardens, animals and plants, water system and continued building, you will all be very busy!
This is such a pleasure to watch you rebuild and honour your child hood home and also preserve the history. Everything is done with so much care, precision and also prevention from water damage eg the wall that was excavated and sealed against water and the drainage channels your grandpa installed. Love that you reuse all of the materials and nothing goes to waste. Just subscribed. Keep up the good work and happy restoring. That was wonderful to watch, calm, instructive and from the UK thank you so much for doing it in English. I love old stone. I am not sure if putting in very big new windows with the wonderful light that will give is always good though when it gets very hot although I suppose curtains or blinds can close it off. Our ancestors kept houses cold in summer by having very small windows. for me the very nicest part was the connection to the original family and it reminded me of when our parents died and we had to sell the house (not a farm but still full of all our memories). The new owners were lovely and even sent a time capsule they found which we had put in a wall in an extension in about 1970. Nowhere makes such an imprint on any of us as the place where we grew up.
