Can You Beat Fallout New Vegas’s Old World Blues DLC Without Taking Any Damage? (in text form)
Before I did anything else, I ransacked The Sink to find anything useful, which wasn’t all that much to be honest, then I entered the Think Tank, and started what could very well be the longest single instance of dialog in all of New Vegas. I sped through some of it because I already had a general idea of what was Doctor Klein and his fellow Think Tanks were talking about, but it was still almost 13 minutes. Here’s the quick version for anyone watching this for the story:
I fulfilled my prophecy of naming myself Lobotomite by getting a lobotomy and becoming a Lobotomite. The glorified Pez dispensers lost my brain during the lobotomy, I can’t leave until I get it back, there’s some sort of a civil war going on, and I need to pick up a few pieces of equipment.
I went outside for the first time since the last time, saw a LOBOTOMITE, and got into combat for the first time. As soon as I took aim with VATS, I knew this entire thing was gonna suck. Normal headshots with a 9mm Pistol did jack [beep]. According to the Fallout wiki, Lobotomites start out at Level 25, which would explain why this one was would’ve been difficult to [beep] if it weren’t for the critical shot. I picked up one of my favorite melee weapons in all of New Vegas, a Proton Axe, off his corpse. Unfortunately, if an enemy is within melee range, I’m pretty much [beep]ed, so I’m not likely to get a chance to use it any time soon.
It’s not all bad, though. I’ve got a waypoint and I know what direction to go, bronze linings and the whatnot. Before I made any observable progress, I angered two more Lobotomites, one of which had a firearm, a shotgun to be more specific. If you happen to know what a shotgun is, you probably have a solid understanding of why a Lobotomite with one is not a situation you’d wanna find yourself in. All it takes is one pellet hitting me and it’s “Hello loading screen”.
I lured them behind a box and blew both their heads off with a shotgun, stumbled across a Nightstalker because Big MT is a [beep]ing nightmare of a place, then found a Cyber Dog that was not at all friendly, and entered X-8 Central Facility to find my first object. It was inside X-8 that I found my new best friend: the Sonic Emitter. It took out a Mister Orderly Mk3 (mark 3) in just 2 shots.
I did some mad science [beep] and created the perfect amalgamation of man and machine that sadly only lived about as long as my first kid, and pressed onward deeper into the Facility. The time had come to prove my worth to America by dispelling of communist children from a fake school. The Institutional Data Retrieval test is now under way. Basically I just need to get three student records from three different locations and determine which one needs to be put to death. A few obstacles are in my way.
The first are Hall Monitors. They might as well be the Eye of Sauron, because they [beep] me damn near as soon as they see me. The Cyber Dogs are much more worrisome, though. They’re as fast as they are not dogs. The Sonic Emitter is the best weapon at my disposal for dealing with robots, but even it takes several shots to [beep] one dog. I did eventually find a concept that worked: shoot at dog, close door, doggy run away, open door, shoot again. Who knew that all it took to hold back the armies of Hell was a cheap wooden door.

I loved the writing in Old World Blues, but goddamn, the enemies were such bullet sponges.

Old world blues was the first time a game had made me actually laugh out loud, the dialogue is genuinely funny I can’t wait for a NV remaster because we need gameplay on par with the world created in FNV.

I can tell you from experience. The Animal Friend perk makes OWB stupidly easy. I took it in Honest Hearts just on a whim, and it affects nightstalkers

On a similar note, I remember using that perk and it not effecting yao guai causing me to be very disappointed.

The big Nut impossible. The legate and lee Oliver won’t die because 1. The legate starts talking to you as soon as you approach him and 2. When lee shows up your weapons are automatically holstered. (It would work if you have speech 100 tho.)

OWB was always my favorite DLC, I've been a fan of your channel for a long time and when I saw you do the Dead Money no damage run I tried it myself, and I got it after a LOT of trial and error.

Waffles it is possible you just need to have your companion in the place but not as your companion then they will run through killing them it doesn’t tack on to the kill counter

Oh you've ecountered an enemy? I hope you're ready for the other 5 groups of enemies that were alerted by the combat and are now coming towards you. It's never a small fight, it's always like 10 nightstalkers, 8 lobotomines, 3 Mr Gutsies and a Cazadore before you're out of combat again.
The only thing I got from this is that he got to live his fantasy of taking 7 kids from Columbine, stand them all in line, definitely worth a like

I remember fighting the final boss, and just plinking at it with a sniper rifle until it died. Then I felt bad, so I reloaded, and tried again. I found a computer terminal to distract it with protectrons, then snuck up behind it to go in close with the sonic emitter. It immediately exploded. Still feeling it was too easy, I reloaded and ran around until I found & hacked the terminal that can just shut it down without a fight. At that point, I just thought "Why is the boss of all robo-scorpions so much easier than every other robo-scorpion?"

my first experience with OWB and DM was essentially "oh you went with this build, well that won't work here"
Other 2 DLCs i did ok.
What was your build?
@@arielmufson3462 it was a cowboy, survival build. And game took away all my gear and gives me energy weapons and melee instead of revolver/lever action.
Granted i was playing on HC/VH difficulty but those 2 DLCs did feel like i was getting screwed.

You sir are a god send and a curse as I was in the middle of writing a Halo/FNV crossover fanfic where a futuristic Spartan gets dropped into the fallout universe, saves the town of nipton while the legion is gathering everyone up and continues to roam the wasteland doing some minor quest for information or raiding raiders and fiends for supplies before getting his power armor taken from him and broken beyond repair at big mountain.
Having his spine, heart, and brain removed and replaced seriously impacts his combat ability as his movements are as sluggish and slow as a toddler on top of the fact he had a AI implant at the base of his neck removed seriously dulled his senses. Knowing that OWB can be beaten without taken any damage even with multiple dozen attempts it is possible. Now I got to rewrite it as I previously believed it wasn’t possible and abandoned that idea but wasn’t sure what’s a more realistic approach to how much can this spartan take.
I hate OWB so much, but Paul made every part of Fallout better, I miss him, but at least he gave us a massive backlog to revisit. RIP Paul.
Old World Blues is one of the best DLCs there are. Its a shame there aren't more games with as much creativity and humor as this part of the game.
Funny, I found OWB to be one of the most painfully boring and cringe DLCs in the series. It’s like Bing Bang Theory became a Fallout DLC
