I've got one correction to one thing you said, followed by one thing that makes this challenge even worse than most people realize.
Correction: The "Optimized" ammo is a 3:2 conversion, not 3:1. You make 2 Optimized per 3 normal converted, just like with the Overcharged ammo. There are a few advantages to Optimized over Overcharged, but the ones relevant outside of Hardcore mode are the further increased damage multiplier (x1.3 vs x1.25) and lower condition damage multiplier (x1.1 vs x1.5). In Hardcore, Optimized also has only 60% of the weight of a standard unit of ammo.
What makes this run worse: The other upside of Vigilant Recycler is that it doubles the chance of recovering a "Drained" unit of Energy Weapon ammo upon firing your weapon. This includes Flamer Fuel, which goes from a 25% chance of recovery to a 50% chance. However, there's two little caveats: the recovery chance is per shot fired, not per unit of ammo expended, and no matter how much you expend per shot, you can only get one drained unit back. This means that with the Flare Gun you'll need to expend, on average, 60 units of Flamer Fuel to get back enough Drained Flamer Fuel Tanks to craft 1 unit of Flamer Fuel, or 180 units to craft 2 units of Optimized.
Ironically this weapon would be one of the better weapons for taking on the deathclaws

The flare gun is mainly used to scare monsters away. You would fight a deathclaw, pull out the flare gun, and shoot the deathclaw, so that it would run away allowing you to shoot it for a bit before it charges you again.
Also used for setting it on fire, shooting it in the back as it runs away and then frantically trying to switch to the flare gun when it stops being grill fried before it introduces your head to the concept of not being on your shoulders anymore

Imagine you pick up a incinerator. Not a heavy incinerator, but it's smaller counterpart.
Now imagine you can fire it only once every 5 seconds.
Now imagine the ammo for it is consumed in stacks of 10 and is relatively rare.
This is the pain of the flare gun.

I don't care which one I'm using, I'm more inclined to using the flare gun or incinerator rather that the flamer out of the simple fact that I like to keep my distance away from anything.

Once you make contact with divide E-DE and get the ammo ability for him, Mojave E-DE can immediately do the same thing. It probably would've saved you a lot of time on trips to the divide.
Could also tell E-DE to wait at a location and just fast travel to that location and he’ll be right there. Unsure if that works though never really tried
But it might have also broke the "no followers in the main game" rule (even if ED-E was left in Primm or at the Lucky 38, so I'm guessing it was a reluctant "better safe than sorry (then banging head off a brick wall in hindsight 😉😂)" decision.

I’m just not gonna lie, I prefer Mitten squads videos, but the difference between Nerbit, and MS is their attitude towards the challenge. MS is more uppity and cheerful while Nerbit is more sarcastic and cynical

You can't attack, unless required by the game, and you can't use companions. You can lead enemies to one another, or you can also use the charisma perks/robotics expert to command an enemy

....this is what we in the business call "foreshadowing".
The Flare Gun is a low weight Incinerator. If it only came into play earlier in the game it would be a reasonable early energy weapon. As I said many times, "when" you get the weapon makes it good or bad. Lucky is a fantastic weapon, because you get it at Primm, while Maria you only get after killing Benny, which sucks because at that point I'm not even using 9mm ammo anymore.
Another good early weapon is the recharger rifle which you can get from the general store in good springs or from the nearby cave on a bright follower.

Also maria is a sleeper weapon, ofc its not as good as other pistols you came across. But it thrives on a pretty good crit damage and fire rate. Also you might've accumulatively stocked up on 9mm anyway
@@mrman6035 The recharger rifle is seriously ass, actually. It's so heavy that it's hard to justify it even (or especially) in hardcore mode compared to a laser rifle and just carrying the MF cells. It's inaccurate as sin and that coupled with its low damage means you need to carry a backup and ammo anyway for when you've inevitably discharged all your rounds and would otherwise have to wait a second per shot after that. The recharger pistol, on the other hand, is actually pretty decent - although, like the above comment says, by the time you're able to get your hands on one in the wild it's likely past its window of usefulness as you're in all likelihood swimming in ammo and have much better weapons available anyway. Stealing the one from the Silver Rush is probably a great way to capitalise on it early on. MF Hyperbreeder Alpha (that's what the Mrs calls me) is also absolutely incredible and I'm currently doing a playthrough using it as my main weapon.
recharger pistol is much better but i think it needs energy50 and at that point you could use actual weapons so why bother xD it is really sad that the recharger weapons are so useless@@sussurus

Suggestion for a run: "Can you beat Fallout 3 as a Crimson Dragoon"? You can only use what the NPC Dragoons have (Sniper rifle, Chinese assault rifle, Chinese officer sword, and of course the Chinese stealth armor), and you need to be as much a stereotype ninja commie as possible. You can technically also do it in Vegas, but I don't think the sniper rifle spawns until fairly late into the game, and the Chinese weapons aren't in the Mojave.
You can actually get a sniper rifle as soon as you have the ability to pick hard locks. There's a booby-trapped building to the northeast of the mole rat ranch that is guaranteed to have one.
Also apparently there's another one at Camp McCarran in the first recon tent, but idk if you have to steal it or not.

Another great video, happy holidays man. And when you're not a pyrotechnic Sisyphus chained to it as your only defense, the flare gun is actually pretty useful for spooking off deathclaws and such, but I think you've earned the right to never touch it again lol

Good Natured is a great pick for weapon restricted runs. If you only plan on using one class of weapons, the stat optimization helps early-game skill checks

Honestly I didn’t even know the flare gun was in this game, although I guess I did speed through Lonesome Road cause I was pretty much done dealing with the dlcs at that point
I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but when doing weapon restricted runs, Great Khan's armory is often surprisingly good source of ammo.
The only use I've ever gotten out of the flare gun is shooting the deathclaws on the Lonesome Road's overpass section. They can close the gap pretty quickly if they spot you, so having something that helps get some distance between you & them is crucial for when things go wrong.

You should do a run where you have to have as many people following you as possible at all times: like Malcolm Holmes, Kowalski, Fisto, the NCR rangers, etc. If it's possible I think it could be a really cool culmination for all of the individual runs

one thing to note is that the flare gun is the most situational weapon and strongest weapon in FNV as a whole. Using the flare gun, I kid you not, you can literally ONE SHOT rawr. Thats not a joke. I used it in my lonesome road level 1 playthrough, no footage though.
this makes me want nerbit to do a pyromaniac challenge where anything that uses fire can be used, I think fallout 4 would be the best for this challenge or maybe fallout 3

Simple yet fun recommendation today, Can You Beat Fallout 4 as John Wick? Stealth based, silenced pistol, can have dogmeat as a companion. Must also do any assassination contracts in the Wasteland. I'd imagine either Institute or Mostly Institute into railroad to kill the Russian Institute mafia you brought to power. Could also install a mod to add a pencil as a weapon, and make a challenge to kill 3 men in a bar with it.
You inspired me to record my own New Vegas runs! I'm working towards beating New Vegas with (almost) every weapon in the game, and since I'm a masochist, it's all on Very Hard, and I'm clearing Quarry Junction of its Alpha Male Deathclaw every time. My latest run was using just Annabelle, and it was a journey and a HALF to obtain.
(I say ALMOST every weapon because the Blade of the West isn't usable prior to the Second Battle, Euclid's C-Finder takes half an hour to reload, Flash Bangs do literally ONE damage and the Fist of Rawr and North Rawr are the exact same weapon, so my subscribers voted on the North Rawr to have a video.)

I prefer the flare gun in fallout 4. I added a mod that had custom enchants and let you modify stats of the weapons, and one of the custom enchants was a variant of the 2 shot, the 10 shot! I put that on a flare gun, and god it felt hilarious to be shooting people with miniature suns! 10/10 one of my favorite things ive done in fallout lol
Step 1: Get a 2-shot missile launcher. it's available in vanilla.
Step 2: Put a lock-on comuter and quad barrel on it.
Step 3: Lock-on to some schmuck, aim towards the sky a bit, and spam the trigger.
Step 4: Watch a volley of 8 angry bois turn them into soup.

Gonna be honest, despite having played through the game like 8-9 times at this point and done all the dlcs three times, I have never even noticed there was a flare gun
I remember watching someone do this in Fallout 4 and I’m already looking forward to relishing in this mans pain.

I never thought about the Legate's speed being due to his height, but that makes perfect sense considering that's how it worked in stuff like Oblivion, with Altmer being the fastest. That's so janky, but I love it.

It’s useful for hardcore mode, very hard trips to the Divide.
With the whole thing of shots sometimes phasing through NPCs. To me, it seems like every NPC (played included) is comprised of multiple hitboxes for the locational damage system that the game has. These boxes move as the NPC moves and looks around. This has an unintended side effect where it's possible for projectiles to pass through the seams between these hitboxes depending on what animation the NPC is doing and what way they are oriented in relation to the player. I've had a time where a Super Mutant, for some reason, looked straight up and I had my shot pass through their neck and do nothing but alert the Super Mutant to my presence.

Challenge Run Idea: you can only use gear and items purchased with caps earned via Caravan. Caravan Cards can be either purchased or found in the game world, including Ringo’s deck freely.

I don't know what was funnier, you slowly turning towards the Omertas after saying you weren't gonna do a thing to draw attention or you channeling your inner MittenSquad and using a bucket as its godly intentions.
The flare gun should only be used for a sniper because you can keep abominations at a distance and pick them off or killing rawr by shooting it and using the laser detonator

I actually did this run back in the day lol. Great run and I understand how tedious this can be. The flare gun was my favorite side arm in this game and that may sound crazy, and you would be correct. My favorite pistol in Fallout 3 was the unique Chinese pistol so....yeah. awsome vid!

Here's a suggestion: Can you best Fallout New Vegas as Allen Wake?
You'd have to use the flare gun to "weaken" enemies first before using other weapons. For weapons, you're restricted to the 357 revolver, hunting rifle, and hunting shotgun. You also would have to keep your pipboy light on during the night.

lol, idk about that man. The Lonesome Road Flare Gun is the second coming of Fallout 3's Dart Gun, it's one of the ultimate Deathclaw hunting tools!! Watch as the giant lizard flees in terror, giving you plenty of time to make pot shots at them!

Can you beat Fallout: New Vegas as Obelix?
- Fists only. Use console commands to set your unarmed damage to 100. Set your max carry weight to however high you want.
- Always fight Caesar's Legion, and collect the helmets of all the legionaries you defeat.
- You're not allowed to use chems, stimpaks or drinkables (because he fell into the cauldron of magic potion as a child). You can only heal with food, water, doctor bags, or resting.
- You must do the independent Vegas ending (the indomitable village holding out against the invaders).
An idea: Can You Beat New Vegas as a Civilian?
Can only use weapons and armor that civilian NPCS in the Mohave use (like the bare bones residents wearing pre-war clothes and using knives and such), need to end quests based on the opinions of local/regional NPCS and what they think about things.
I don’t know why I feel so endeared to Ed-E, it’s just a robot.

I can't wait for you to try to beat Fallout: New Vegas as Vance. Primm Slim has a science check that'll reveal a corrupted memory bank of somebody stealing vance's gun and the clothes from the casino in primm and where they are, you can just go get them and then use the gun and suit exclusively until the end of the run. Even better if you can get Veronica to wear Vikki's hat and a white glove dress the entire time.

I didn't think I'd ever do this, but I actually had an idea for a character run. Carmen Sandiego. Max Stealth/thief run. Conceivably works with any of the games. Wanted/bounty or chase npc probably? I don't know, I'm not the expert. Love these vids, keep up the good work.
